If you want to learn JavaScript, I recommend the O'reilly "Rhino" book:

Of course, JavaScript is not the *only* HTML scripting language. And JavaScript
is used in Synchronet for much more than just HTML generation, but getting
familiar with JavaScript is a good thing, for sure, for any Synchronet sysop.
