I think the main reason they went to truncated, was so the thugs
couldn't follow the police...and the "ambulance chasers" couldn't follow
the paramedics.

As for the scanner prices, you got that right!! I'm still able to
listen to some out of band things on my ham radio handi-talkie (which I
use mainly to monitor Skywarn severe weather operations)...but I heard
of a case where one ham was monitoring a frequency just outside the ham
radio 2 meter band, and above the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS)
band. The frequency was a simplex one that was supposedly "internal" for
a certain fast food restaurants kitchen employees. Apparently, while
they were preparing an order, they were talking gossip, etc. about a
certain couples relationship (not sure if they were single, married,
separated, divorced, or what)...but as the ham radio operator got his
order, he said "I hope those people get their relationship worked out".
The look on the employees faces was like "How the hell did he find
out??!!" LOL
