Well, my having a clear signal birthday (I'm five nine) (hi hi), has
meant ham radio at the forefront in several areas.
1) I now have a NEW callsign...WX4QZ. It stands for "Whistled Crossings
For Quiet Zones" (QZ).
Federal Law normally requires trains to sound their horns within a
half mile of a railroad crossing, or if vehicles or persons (either
Maintenance Of Way workers, or trespassers (the right of way is
PRIVATE PROPERTY) are in the trains path. The Quiet Zones mean that
the horn is NOT sounded, unless for the reasons above...or if a train
is meeting another train on a parallel track.
My profile on eqsl.cc has the NEW QSL card, with the design courtesy
of Mike Yuhas, AB9ON. This will be updated on the QRZ and QCWA pages
for me sometime this weekend.
2) Thanks to Eric, KJ4KEU, for providing a ThumbDV, with the BlueDV
software by PA7LIM; plus help from Elmer, KG5SLG, and Larry, NN4H, I
now can access the X-Reflectors, DCS systems, and DMR.
3) I ordered a refurbished Cisco SPA 303 from Amazon, and it should
arrive mid to late next week. It is what I will use when I try again
to get on to Hamshack Hotline.
4) I ordered a new badge from ARRL/VEC, but I am not scheduled to do
another license exam session until early May. Other ornamental shack
items will have to wait a bit, due to funding issues.
So, all of the items with WX1DER (mailing address stamp, QSL cards,
business card/contact cards, etc.), are being discarded.
While the callsign has CHANGED, my email address of wx1der at gmail
dot com, is not -- I have too much tied up in that. But, after doing
weather data for 28 years in ham radio, I am BURNED OUT.
I may screw up a time or two with the old call...because ones ham
radio callsign becomes so much a part of them. But, I felt it was time
for a change.
