As noted, I am in the process of changing my ham radio callsign from
WX1DER to WX4QZ -- the change will likely take place on March 26.
But, another glaring issue has developed. My DV Dongle won't connect to
Reflector 26, and I get a message that "it can't connect to the gateway".
This was the case both Sunday afternoon and Monday evening. I did NOT get
a message saying that "you can listen, but not transmit"; so apparently I
haven't been banned from D-Star.
I have sent an inquiry message to the British Columbia Frequency
Modulation Communications Association (BCFMCA), who runs Reflector 26
(I'm also an associate member of the group)...to try and find out what's
going on. Others reported that they could connect to REF 26A, but I could
not. So, for the moment, the QCWA D-Star Net on Sundays, the D-Star Food
Net on Mondays, and the D-Star Trains Net on Fridays, are TEMPORARILY
SUSPENDED until further notice.
With being drained from a long drive to Cabot today to take care of
financial things for my Mom (who's in a nursing home), then having to
go to the doctor to get a steroid shot (at least I don't have the flu,
or pneumonia, but not sure what I have got), I didn't feel like trying
to check the other reflectors for the nets that I do. They have me on a
new stronger antibiotic, which I'll take twice a day for 10 days.
However, if trying to connect to those proves fruitless Tuesday evening,
then my Dongle is apparently dead...even though it shows as connected,
and the light is modulating on and off. What's worse is that means I'm
QRT on D-Star, because of bills through April, it'll be May before I
could afford a replacement dongle...and I certainly can't afford a DVAP,
D-Star Rig, and a hotspot...and I do NOT want someone getting such for
me.
Right now, I only check into one Echolink Net a week, but I won't be
able to do that this Wednesday, because of the threat of severe storms
and tornadoes. I still can do CQ100 and packet via telnet, but ALL of
my modes will be ON HOLD once the new callsign takes effect, until I
can get things re-registered.
With all the problems with HamShack Hotline with the Cisco SPA525G
phone, I have unplugged it, and have (at least for now) given up on
being part of it. I will ship the phone to Glen Strecker, KG5CEN, as
he has a fellow ham interested in purchasing it...but I have to get
some other bills paid first, before I can ship it. I might get a
different model (not as fancy) sometime this fall...but right now,
HamShack Hotline is LOW on my priority list.
Sorry for any inconvenience. If nothing else, the downtime gives me
a much needed break from the hobby...with the only ham radio work I'm
doing now, is posting various ham radio items on the BBS.
