This message area covers three main fields in ham radio:

1) Emergency Communication
2) C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team)
3) Skywarn Severe Weather Operations

Ham Radio is promoted as the mode that keeps going "When All Else Fails".
Indeed, in things like a disaster (weather, earthquake, etc.), many of
the traditional means of communication (phone, etc.) or service
(power, etc.) go down.

Ham Radio operators normally prepare "go-kits", where they can take a
"portable station" to a disaster area, and begin operating.

Those involved with C.E.R.T. (the Community Emergency Response Team)
provide initial communications before the main emergency responders
arrive on scene. C.E.R.T. Training is free, and the life you save, may
be your own.

Those involved with Skywarn Spotting are "the eyes and ears of the
National Weather Service". While Doppler Radar can indicate such
things as tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, and flooding rain,
it's the spotters that provide "ground truth" of what the radar is
seeing.

Note that I am working on preparing batchfiles for these message areas,
and it may take some time to get these posts going.

Also, since I consider messages over 30 days old to be out of date on
my BBS, these messages are deleted after that point, and reposted once
a month, with new information, when required.
