John 3:16 says "only begotten." Strong's Concordance lists it as
monogen��s (G3439), meaning "only born" or "sole." I take that to
mean unique, one of a kind, not replicated. But not created in
the way we think of creation.
Here's how I understand it: God is eternal. He exists outside time,
space, and matter. So when He chose to "inject" Himself into His
own creation, He did so through a physical expression - Jesus (Yeshua).
This wasn't the "start" of the Son, but the manifestation of God
in physical form.
I believe the terms "Father" and "Son" are descriptors for our
benefit - to help us grasp a truth that is beyond our experience.
It doesn't mean one came before the other. It's not "created" the
way created things are. It is God, revealing Himself to us.
That's my belief and understanding from my reading and
studying. It does not come from church dogma.
