I assume the book "BASIC Computer Games" by Ahl.

There were a few variations of the book for the TRS-80, C64, etc.  But if it's
just the basic (he, he) one, then any BASIC will do since the games were
intended to be used for (shall we call it) Common BASIC, which just about every
computer at that time supported.

Ya, that had to do with many things, but mostly cost.  So add graphic/sound
commands to BASIC on the C-64, for example, they'd have to go back to Microsoft
and get a new license, which they didn't want to do for cost purposes.  Or have
their programmers spent a great deal of time, which they didn't want to do,
again for cost purposes.

The programs in "BASIC Computer Games" will run on just about any
implementation of BASIC from the Altair through GW-BASIC on the IBM-PC.
