That's what I do with my CentOS box. My root drive is a pair of mirrored
SSDs not so much for any extra speed but for the safety of having a space.
This has root and /home on it, swap, boot /var etc.
Then I have 4 x 4TB hard drives in a RAID10 configuration. This is where
everything else gets stored that I want like photos, music, videos. Stuff I
don't ever want to lose. I backup using burp backup to a remote server
daily. I also have a 2GB "scratch" drive for when I do stuff like restores
of other people's stupidity. There's also a pair of bluray players so I can
do disc to disc copies if necessary.

It works well.
