Most voip/cable modems have the capability to support a backup battery. I have
a plain old touch-tone desk phone that I plug in when the power goes out.

I'm going to re-arrange things and put the cable modem and the BBS on the same
UPS, so I'll have even more backup - and keep the BBS up through outages.
