It is "dd"; I've used it many times to get images on USB flash drives, and to
create floppy disk images.

Example: dd if=/dev/zero of=/home/vmuser/imges/floppy012.img bs=512 count=2880

That will create a zero-filled (blank) 1.44MB floppy disk image for VMs to
format and use. :)
