Your fastest speed is as fast as the slowest link in the chain. If your edge
connection to your ISP is only 128Kb then that's going to be your fastest
speed. You're not going to gain a thing by changing routers as you mentioned.

Also some (not all) VPNs have a slightly lower MTU (maximum transmission unit)
which may slow users down as well. Good call.
