Pistol caliber carbines are pretty hot in Steel Challenge, 3-gun, USPSA and
now there's a PPC class in IDPA.  The receivers are now made to accept Glock
mags, which means you have a choice from 17 round to 33 round, and even up to
the 50+ round drums.  The Sig MPX and the modern CZ Skorpion are perfect
examples of other PPC's.  In the past a special magazine adapter was need to
feed Uzi or other subgun mags into an AR lower.  The 9mm operates on blowback
instead of direct impingement.
