Wow. Sounds like you have a whole operation going over there!

Sounds like fun. Can't wait to see the videos!

usage:  pacman <operation> [...]
operations:
   pacman {-h --help}
   pacman {-V --version}
   pacman {-D --database} <options> <package(s)>
   pacman {-F --files}    [options] [file(s)]
   pacman {-Q --query}    [options] [package(s)]
   pacman {-R --remove}   [options] <package(s)>
   pacman {-S --sync}     [options] [package(s)]
   pacman {-T --deptest}  [options] [package(s)]
   pacman {-U --upgrade}  [options] <file(s)>

use 'pacman {-h --help}' with an operation for available options

It syncs the repository first, before installing the package. Then there's more options you can use with -S, for example "-Syu" to update your system:

 -u, --sysupgrade     upgrade installed packages (-uu enables downgrades)
 -y, --refresh        download fresh package databases from the server
                      (-yy to force a refresh even if up to date)

I usually don't have an issue with most when testing out new stuff, just have to read up on what you're trying to use and do. I just tend to stick with what I'm used to and like, though, and Arch has been just that for well over a decade now.
