When I went on holidays, I would just send group e-mails.  Ironically, it was
someone else going on holiday that made me go on Facebook originally.  They
said they would post updates there, so I signed up for that reason.  They
didn't end up posting much anyway!

Honestly, back then I didn't see the real advantage, and thought it was a poor
way of providing updates.  That was 2006.
