okay, listen to the master here.
make sure you only run it ssl and use a very non standard port.
once i did ssl only i really lost all my constant attackers. there's some weird shit out there. there's bot nets and those supernets spammers. there's also this one that goes around and creates bridge via relay bots on other irc networks. i'm not sure if that one is still around.
also if you are running on a hosted server they're probably not going to like that you are running an irc server due to botnets.
it might be better and more fun (media linking) to run a private telegram channel.
