CB is really what got me started in the whole Amateur hobby (electronics in
general too) my brother in law drove a truck when I was a kid back in the 80's
and he had a CB in it, Listening to that CB and making my first contact on it
really peaked my interest. Next thing you know I had a CB on my four wheeler,
and then urged my friends to put cbs on theirs, most of us put base stations at
home so we could be called when it was dinner time whenever we rode around in
the neighborhood (and the couple hundred acres that was behind it) good times.

I actually had a linear amp and another battery source hooked up to my four
wheeler at one time (btw when I say 4 wheeler I mean quad not 4 wheeler like
truck drivers call cars, lol) and would go up Grassy Mountain here in North
Georgia to see how far I could get out. Those were some good times that were
ruined by a few locals around here that would give the word "LID" a good name.
I stopped using CB when it got so bad that all you could hear was them bleeding
all over every channel, etc.

But this is what got me into what I'm still passionate about today, just all
around tinkering in electronics, etc. Some hams talk bad about CB, I NEVER
will. if it werent for being exposed to that first CB I don't know where I
would be in life right now. The medium itself is'nt bad, just as in Amateur
Radio, Its some of the LIDS that are bad. and CB just like Ham Radio had
probably saved many lives, or at least convenienced MANY drivers on the roads
in its day. Long live CB. My wish is that the FCC find a way to terminate some
of these LIDS, maybe finally start fining them REAL good, or give them some
time in jail to think about the childish stuff they do. :)
