In the world of DX, listen for Alessandro, IU2IBU, on the air as
EA6/IU2IBU, from Minorca Island, between September 7th and the 13th.
He will be operating holiday style on 80-10 meters, using SSB. QSL to
his home callsign, by the Bureau, or LoTW.
Operators Take, JI3DST, and Masa, JR8YLY, will be on the air as JI3DST/0
and JR8YLY/0, respectively, from Sado Island, between September 6th and
11th. Listen on 80 through 6 metres for them, operating CW, SSB, RTTY,
and FT8. QSL directly to their home callsigns.
Be listening for Francesco, IV3TMM, who is in Burundi, operating as
9U3TMM, through the 17th of September. Francesco can be heard on 60
metres through 6 metres, using SSB, RTTY, and FT8. QSL to his home call
IV3TMM, by the A.R.I. Italian Bureau, ClubLog, or LoTW.
Andrew, OZ5E, can be heard using the call sign E6AN, from Lakepa, Niue
Island, between September 7th and the 10th. Listen on 40, 20, and 15
metres, and perhaps 160, 80, 17, and 10 metres. Andrew will be using
mainly SSB and FT8, and perhaps a little CW. QSL to his home call sign,
direct, or by LoTW.

KICKER: RESPONDING TO HELP THE FIRST RESPONDERS
NEIL/ANCHOR: Three months after vandals destroyed a key emergency
communications tower in Coos County, Oregon, all leads have turned
cold. The tower for the Coos Mountain Repeater, a vital resource used
by firefighters, loggers, and amateur radio operators, near the Oregon
coast, was discovered damaged after a sheriff's deputy answered a call
on June 17th, reporting an act of criminal mischief. Authorities arrived
on the site, and discovered the 150-foot tower had come down, after the
guy wires were cut. The tower was in ruins, and most of the repeaters
were destroyed.
Capt. Gabriel Fabrizio of the Coos County Sheriff's office told Newsline
that the damage, first estimated at $60,000, actually turned out to be
in excess of $100,000. The vandalism also impeded radio capability for
first responders, and others in the region, although he said that for
now, emergency communications needs are being covered.
He told Newsline, however, that there are no valid leads, and no one
from the public has come forward, despite several requests from the
sheriff's office.
He said he hopes that someone may yet step forward with new information
that would help in the arrest and conviction of the vandals, who would
be charged with felony criminal mischief. The office awaits a response -
this time on behalf of the first-responders themselves.
