DEAD GOPHERS

It's unfortunate that these internet gophers seem to have lifespans
just as variable as those spiders weaving the World Wide Web. Away
you go happily checking around at a few holes you haven't visited
in a while and before you know it you're tripping over dead ones.
Not to mention all those who just seem to have disappeared, holes
left abandoned but still scattered with plans and intentions for
the future. Well maybe they just turned back into the web weaving
spiders that they probably were before, or perhaps they've gone off
into space in one of those Gemini capsules that keep being
discovered. Either way, I had some time this morning (technically
I'm having a week off, but as I'm spending all the time working on
my car, and still fulfilling orders, it's kind-of not really) so I
finally decided to cross these gophers off my UMN-branded address
book. May they rest in peace.

                    ADDENDUM (2022-05-17)

Defanor suddenly woke up asking what all the fuss was about:
gopher://uberspace.net:70/0/%7edefanor/phlog/i-atent-ded.rst

All the gopher holes listed either failed to connect on port 70,
were an empty/missing directory, or their host name didn't resolve,
for a couple of days, but it seems in Defanor's case that was just
a short disturbance in the internet ether. Aussies.space has been
known to have such problems as well for that matter, so I did
another round checking for any other gophers risen from the dead,
but it seems it's just the one. Still nice to see one more gopher
back, and my mistake managed to coax another phlog post out of him
to boot!
