# On happiness in the face of massive disagreement
### 20180802

If you look around at the world, you will see an *incredible* amount of things you disagree with. Existential threats loom large, regardless of your worldview or politics.

Just wanted to issue a reminder that these things are out of your hands, nothing you can do will change them, and regardless of the doomsayers: you will be fine. Concentrate instead on what matters, *what truly matters*: your family and friends. Not the politicians, not your work, not the myriad other items vying for your mind. The axiom of Tyler Durden in _Fight Club_ holds true, "let that which does not truly matter, slide." Sage advise for life in times when information seems to travel to us faster than light, and in great volume.
