If you believe in God, you might be of the variety that has
some choice questions for the Supreme Being after this life
is over. One such question that I have is: why did you have
to give us such crummy teeth??
Seriously, we get two sets? Sharks get how many? Certainly,
we have different needs, but two is vastly insufficient. At
least for me. My teeth have always been "tight" - well,
ever since I got braces as a teenager and they ended up so
smashed together that it was hard to clean between them.
And, my wisdom teeth (another question for the Supreme)
were entirely impacted. They had to dig them out.
Those tightly packed teeth have meant a host of dental
issues for me. I don't know if I've phlogged about it, but
in 2016 I had to get one root canal redone, and two
additional ones, plus oral surgery because of the bad
root canal. That was an expensive year (I don't have
dental insurance.) Three crowns that year.
But, there was a 4th crown that I was supposed to have
done on a finished root canal from a year or two before
that. And that's really what this post is about.
Today, that unfinished business came back to haunt me. I
was told to get it done, and I put it off then forgot
about it. Bad move. Today, that tooth cracked. I was able
to find a dentist that would see me immediately, and about
half of the tooth had to be removed.
The cost of a crown is about $800 (not counting the root
canal part.) That option is now gone for that tooth. Now
I can have an implant for $5,000 all said and done. That
was at least the one dentist's quote. I should have taken
care of that when I had the chance.
Of course, I could also just have the tooth pulled and
have an interesting blank spot there. Or, I could get a
bridge, which they told me would also require me to crown
the two adjacent teeth. OR, I could get a "flipper," which
doesn't sound fun, but in looking at it online, it didn't
look that bad either.
Certainly this day could have been better. I was planning
on getting some work done, honestly, but that little bit of
unplanned business rained on that parade.
So, I'm going to ask God when I see Him next. Perhaps He'll
have a great reason. Perhaps not. But it won't hurt to ask.
I think.
