Dale, allow me to clarify something as I have been with 5 or 6 different
voice over IP technologies, including vonyage, skype, majick jack, and some
other weird name that I'd probably never use again.
Vonage and a few others offer a service of providing 2 ports on their SIP. 1
is for voice only, the other is for FAXing. The faxing has modem quality and
can be used for slow speed modem dial-up. The voice quality has noise and
echo canceling, which keeps the modem from establishing a connection and
keeps it from reliably transfering when you can make a 110baud-300baud
connect. On the fax line, you need to disable all compression and echo/noise
cancelation. Unfortiantly this will also suck down all the bandwidth it can,
so if your ISP is like mine and charges you extra if you exceed a set amount,
you'll be paying more than your long distance bill! I have never tried it,
but Magic Jack would be interesting to see if you used the option for the
cellular bandwidth .... It might be a way of connecting via magic jack....
Beyond that, haven't heard of any of the other services providing fax quality
voice over IP service....
