Hey Benny!

BP> gentoo have 2.33 stable, with crypt support,

Last time we talked about stable it was 2.32 and 2.31 for slackware and I was getting 2.33 to behave itself.

BP> the 2.34 is still to come with can maybe still have support for crypt ?

$ file /lib/libcrypt-2.34.so
/lib/libcrypt-2.34.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, not stripped

That is fresh from the latest build of a soon to be 'stable' once it becomes official on August 1st or shortly after barring any major glitches.  At the moment I am still using 2.33 as 'stable'.  Also am upgrading to a 5.13.x kernel headers which requires a gcc patch in order to be in sync with glibc-2.34 headers.  It is always something ...

BP> the crypt part is planned to be external not in glibc any more

That is news to me.  Also see above for confirmation of libcrypt-2.34.  Also from shadow-4.8.1;

$ ldd /bin/login
       linux-vdso.so.1 (0x00007ffcefbca000)
       libcrypt.so.1 => /lib/libcrypt.so.1 (0x00007fa5a33d8000)
       libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00007fa5a3252000)
       /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007fa5a3416000)

This seems to confirm that it indeed works although I have yet to boot this particular build ... yet.

BP> hope you know why i use gentoo ?

I have a good guess.  Keeping up to date is alot of work and anything that helps is usually more than welcome.

Life is good,
Maurice
