GUITAR - The Fidonet Guitar Echo
Moderator - Gary Gilmore, 1:2410/400
Asst. Moderator - Rich Lockyer
Last updated: 07/19/2001

Description:
A Fidonet conference for guitar and bass players, builders and
techs.  Topics include playing styles and techniques, building
and modifying guitars/basses, related devices, accessories,
and amplifiers.  On-going discussions include the Tube/Tranny
Wars, where the best clubs are (i.e. - free drinks for players),
compilation tapes of echo participants, "FidoJam" get togethers,
and the mystic adventures of Fission Chips across the eighth
dimension. A love of music and humor are REQUIRED!

Rules :

1. English is the language of this echo, mainly because that's what most
of the folks in this echo speak.  (Sort of...)  Keep in mind that this
-is- an international echo.  If you post looking for people to jam
with, don't expect someone from Boise, Idaho to commute to your place
in Australia.  (Same goes for selling things.)

2. Flaming is -not- allowed.  If you want to flame someone, get a hibachi.
When you've reached the point of "flaming" will be determined by the
moderator.  (This also includes the "no jumping on newbies" rule.
   Give 'em a break, huh?)

3. Please use your real name when posting here.  If you aren't sure,
check your birth certificate, or ask your mom.

4. Ovations are allowed, but prepare to be toasted with the hibachi
   from rule #2.

5. All topics are welcome, but try not to let message threads get more
than 1 or 2 generations away from something having to do with guitars,
gear or burning Ovations.  This IS the "guitar" echo, remember?

6. Strange humor can abound here.  Take into account that most of the
denizens of this echo have rather warped senses of humor.  (After all,
we're musicians!)  Before you think something should be handled by rule
#2, make sure they weren't yanking your chain.

7. Do you have that "unfresh" feeling?

8. Long/Big signatures are right out.  A single tag line is fine, and a
SHORT one line signature.  More than that, and you're out of bounds,
and a 12 line Head (or other stupid ascii "art") after your message is
grounds for dismemberment, castration, or being forced to listen to
Hansen records until you go insane.  (Which should take about thirty
seconds.)  In a word, Don't.  We're not impressed by all your email or
web addresses, or what other echos your moderate.  We don't need to see
them over and over in the echo.  Same goes for any high-ASCII junk.
Leave the "artwork" home.  ("Tab" is not considered "ascii artwork", so
feel free to post it... just don't go overboard.)

8a. "Surveys" about "where are you from", "what's your favorite band/
guitar/amp/Hansen album" and the like are banned from the echo.
In a word, don't.  Ever.  Especially without prior permission.
Asking for -opinions- on gear, clubs, etc -is- ok though.

8b. Immediately jumping into the echo with a "<whatever/whomever> RULEZ!!!"
type post will likely get you branded an dork.  You can, however, live
this down by contributing semi-intelligent conversation from then on,
but we'll probably still wonder about you.  Arguing with a "<whatever/
whomever RULEZ!!!" type post will make you look like a bigger dork than
the original dork.  Think about it, won't you?

9. Don't overquote messages that you're replying to.  Inversely, don't
expect someone to have the slightest idea what you're replying to if
you don't quote at least a line or two of the original message.
More than a couple of lines is probably overquoting.  Use whatever
common sense you might have.  If you have no common sense, we might
be able to get you a deal on some.

10. Ads to buy/sell/trade guitars/basses & related equipment -are- allowed,
but be prepared to be laughed at when trying to sell something for a
ridiculous price.  While ads are allowed, posting them with the
frequency of rainfall in Oregon is not.  Again, remember the mention
about "international echo" from rule #1.

11. Strong language is frowned upon.  Please try to keep your language
to a level that wouldn't cause Jerry Falwell to have too much chest
pain.  The only exception to this rule is when quoting complete
music lyrics but don't try to sing flames to someone.  (Post a rap
song, and you'll get moderated!)  Breaking this rule and rule #2 at
the same time is grounds for a well earned vacation and a few weeks
being forced to endlessly listen to Celine Dion albums.

12. The moderator retains the right to come up with other rules to fit
situations as the needs arise.  He also retains the right to chain
smoke Marlboro 100's, and drink coffee by the gallon.

13. Let the moderator do the moderating, OK?  If a troublemaker needs a
netmail equivalent of a throat-punch, the -moderator- will do so.
Unless you've been specifically -asked- to be co-moderator, don't
act like one.  (Rich Lockyer -is- my assistant, so listen to him too.)

Chronic violations of these rules will result in netmail messages from the
moderator followed by the application of "electronic scissors" to your
echomail feed, telephone line and possibly fingers.  Really, we're easy
going kinda people and don't wanna have to do anything outta the ordinary
so just lay back, relax, and talk about guitars and related stuff.

Participation Guidelines :

1. There is no cost or fee to use this echo.

2. The phrase "Bite Me!" (C) Gary Gilmore.  Licensing available.
(Gary Gilmore (c) Mrs. Gilmore - No licensing available.)

3. Everyone is welcome in the echo!  While there may be biases towards
various bands, equipment, and playing styles (not to mention damned
near everything else that can be discussed ) ALL opinions are welcomed
and encouraged.  If you feel you are being unduly persecuted, please
send NETMAIL to the moderator and I shall definitely look into it,
however it is suggested you examine Rule #6 closely before resorting
   to this.

4. Don't gate anything into this echo, or this echo out to anywhere else
without prior permission of the moderator, unless you want your feed to
disappear like Milli Vanilli's career.  Internet gating is -strictly-
prohibited, either to newsgroup or mailing list formats.

Thanks for using the GUITAR echo, and have fun!
