[3] WALKTHROUGH [0300]
==============================================================================
NOTE: This walkthrough is based on Normal difficulty.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER ONE: SCAVENGERS [0301]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Track the Scorpion
Leaf Crickets: 1 [1/17]
Grubs: 36 [36/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the opening cinema, you will take control of the tarantula. Turn around
and move around in the circular chamber. Eat the two crickets scurrying around
the starting location as the game teaches you the basic commands.
Follow the path into the next area, where you will find your first grub
immediately to the left [1/450]. Eating grubs not only restores a small bit of
your health, but devouring enough unlocks various art galleries. Since you are
a spider, you have the ability to traverse along walls. Climb onto the walls
to find a few more grubs [4/450].
Continue forward up towards the cacti as you see two beetles fighting. The red
soldier beetle comes out on top. Try using combinations of the A Button while
shaking the Wii Remote to test out some combos against the soldier beetle. You
can head to Section 2 for some advanced move lists.
After killing the beetle, approach the cactus on the ground and jump over it
with Z. Walk up the wall in front of you and eat the two grubs along the way
[6/450]. Pass by the crack in the wall and jump over another cacti to reach a
small cavern. Eat the grub along the way down [7/450].
Defeat the two soldier beetles lying in wait with your basic combos. After
their death, continue through the tunnel to reach an intersection. Eat the
grub on the wall to the right [8/450], then take the left path. After
encountering a wolf spider, confront it. It isn't too difficult, but it does
jump around a lot.
Gobble up the cricket and the two grubs [10/450] to refill your health, then
return to the fork and head down the other path. The glowing green fireflies
floating in midair is a save point, so be a good spider and save your game.
Continue onward through the passage to reach the exit, where you are ambushed
by a rattlesnake!
.-------------------.
--| BOSS: Rattlesnake |-------------------------------------------------------
'-------------------'
Woo, a boss already! How a lowly tarantula is supposed to take down a huge
rattlesnake is beyond me. Lets see how it all plays out! The rattlesnake stays
perched up on a ledge out of the tarantula's reach. Notice how its rattle is
shining... that must mean its the boss's weak point.
The rattlesnake will attack by striking at you. When you hear it hiss, get
ready to jump to the side to avoid its fangs. After avoiding its attack a few
times, the snake lets its tail dangle over the ledge. Pounce on the rattle and
strike it.
After hitting the rattlesnake's rattle a once, the camera will pan out to
reveal the cacti behind you. As the snake gets ready to lunge forward, follow
the command of the prompt the appears onscreen; the rattler will miss and
collide with the spiny cacti. The boss shakes the spines off its face as the
battle continues.
Repeat the process a second time. The button prompts are different every time,
but they usually consist of hitting Z or swining the Wii Remote left or right.
The rattlesnake's attack becomes faster, so you'll have to time your jumps
better. After the third and final prompt, the rattlesnake creates an opening
in the cacti as you escape. Success!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Save your game up ahead and follow the trail down to another cavern. You'll
get a tip about Adventure Goals, but we currently don't have any yet. Eat the
two crickets down here and move through the tunnel. As you snatch up the grub
along the way [11/450], the ground rumbles as you can faintly here the two
humans, George Struggs and Wade, conversing above you.
You're given a goal as you move out into the open: track the scorpion. Eat the
two grubs to your right and the one on your left [14/450], then continue along
the left side of the wall to reach the floor. You'll find another grub
[15/450] in a dark corner to your left.
As you emerge into the open, a wolf spider and soldier beetle will attack. Try
out your new Jump Strike attack on them. A pair of scarab beetles show up
afterwards. You should have unlocked the Spin Attack right now, so test it out
on these poor saps.
Pass underneath the motorcycle wheel as you follow the path. Hop over the
cactus and eat the cricket just past it. Continue around the bend, snacking on
the grubs [18/450] until you come to a huge open area. The scorpion enters a
downed tree at the far end.
Head down towards the left side of the area. Defeat the beetles down here and
approach the cactus all by itself. One side of the cactus has no spines on it,
enabling you to climb onto it. Get the grub on the cactus [19/450] and the two
on the adjacent wall [21/450].
Follow the wall as you move between the wall and the large plants. You will
pass a piece of cracked wall; ignore it for now. There is another grub at the
end of the path leaning against the tree [22/450]. Climb the wall just above
the cracked section to find a well-hidden grub up here [23/450].
Backtrack to the entrance of the area and focus on the right side this time.
Feed on the grub on the wall to the right of the area's entrance, then climb
up the smooth rock to find another grub resting on top [25/450].
Proceed towards the tree trunk and eat the two grubs lying in front of it
[27/450]. Before pursuing the scorpion, lets spend the time to fully explore
this region. Turn around and walk back towards the rocks that you were on just
before. Walk to the left side of the rocks to find a small nook underneath.
Enter the nook to find yourself in a small tunnel underneath the rocks.
Eat the grub to the right [28/450], then enter the nearby room. There is a
wolf spider inside along with three grubs [31/450]. The spider is very jumpy,
which is always annoying.
Return outside again and walk to the right of the tree trunk. Continue down
the narrow passage between the tree and the wall; there is a grub along the
way [32/450] as well (to your right to be exact). As the path eventually takes
you to a pit underneath the tree, defeat the wolf spider and claim the two
grubs as your reward [34/450].
Now that we're finished grubbin', return to the tree and head inside. Save
your game. Exit out of the side of the tree; eat the grub in front of you,
then the one on the outside of the tree as you climb across to the other side
[36/450]. That's the last of the grubs for this chapter!
Defeat the pair of wolf spiders on the other side, then enter the second
opening. You will be ambushed by a few more wolf spiders here. After defeating
the first two, another pair will enter the tree to do battle. Kill them as
well and exit the tree.
Save up ahead and eat the leaf cricket just beyond [1/17] to increase your
maximum health!
Continue onward to eventually encounter the scorpion again. Fighting him is
just like fighting a normal enemy, though he tends to block your attacks a
lot. I found the Spin Attack to be your best option here. It knocks the
scorpion down, allowing you to use other moves. After taking enough damage,
your rival escapes as the chapter comes to a close.
Track the Scorpion - COMPLETED
==============================================================================
CHAPTER TWO: BURIAL [0302]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Find a way out of The Underground
[ ] - Escape from the Gila Monster
Leaf Crickets: 4 [4/24]
Grubs: 33 [69/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we get to see first-hand what's it's like to play as the scorpion! Just
for the record, while the two creatures both share grub count, the scorpion
has a separate amount of leaf crickets, which is why the display is shown as
out of 24 as opposed to the tarantula's 17.
Before proceeding forward, test out the scorpion's basic controls. The most
noticeable change is that the scorpion can block attacks with Z instead of
jumping like the tarantula. It also cannot climb on walls as well as our
spider friend. When you're ready, move through the tunnel.
You will get a new Adventure Goal: Find a way out of the underground. Go
forward and devour the cricket, then continue down the path. A wolf spider up
ahead kills an insect, then bolts. Eat the grub to the left [37/450] and chase
after the spider.
As you spill out into another dark, open area, some wolf spiders will attack.
Use your new combos and Sting attack to do them in, then continue; don't miss
out on the grub [37/450] on the right side of the room.
The pesky wolf spider taunts the scorpion, then runs again. Feed on the grub
along the path [38/450] and take chase. A soldier beetle and scarab beetle
will attack you up ahead. You can try using one of your Finishing Move on the
bugs: sting them, then press C when the button appears on the screen. Next,
follow the commands to perform a gruesome execution!
After finding and eating the grub here [39/450], move along after defeating
the two beetles. It's pretty easy to get turned around in this level, so
remember you can also use the Hint Arrow (2 Button) to help show you the way.
Gobble up the grub in this next, vaguely similar area [40/450]. I hope the
whole level doesn't look this painstakingly identical. Feed on the crickets
for health and you'll soon come to a fork. Take the left path to reach a dead
end and a grub [41/450]. Return to the intersection and now head right, where
you will come across another grub [42/450] and a save point.
A group of wolf spiders will ambush you up ahead. I always find these enemies
to be tough since the scorpion is so slow. Remember to block a lot and try to
use your A Button combos or Tail Whip. Pass by the skeleton hand and go
forward to reach what seems to be the rest of the body. How lovely...
You'll find a pillbug just up ahead. As far as I know they do not attack, so
eat it for some points. If it curls into a ball, whack it and devour it once
it's dazed. At the right, eat the two grubs [44/450] and the leaf cricket
[1/24].
Hug the left side of the wall and you'll be able to walk on the side of the
wall above the skeleton. Continue across the wall to reach a small opening
containing three grubs [47/450]. Go back to where you found the leaf cricket
and crawl back down onto the ground.
Head to the left this time to continue down the tunnel past the skeleton. Eat
the crickets and grub [48/450].
Proceed onward to encounter a flame-knee tarantula. This guy is pretty tough,
so block and try to swipe at him with a few hits. A button prompt should
appear on screen, so follow it to use your Finishing Move.
Pass through the skull up ahead and save your game. The tunnel ahead contains
a pillbug and two grubs [50/450]. Up ahead, the scorpion finds another flame-
knee tarantula. Chase after it and defeat the creatures. Walk up the slope,
eating the two grubs as you go across the root [52/450], to reach a new
(lighter) area of the underground.
As you can tell by the scenery, this seems to be a spider's den. Two wolf
spiders appear up ahead, so finish them off and get the grub [53/450].
At the end of the path, crawl onto the root and feast on the grub [54/450]. As
you continue across the root, you'll spot a spider feeding on a dead lizard
trapped in its web. Welp.
Up ahead are a few beetles in the chamber. I hereby dub this the "Beer Bottle
Chamber". Defeat the three beetles and follow the grub-ridden path [55/450]
onto another root. Go across the root bridge and ignore the wasps that fly
overhead. When you get to the fork up ahead, continue straight ahead.
As you crawl off of the root and onto the ground, locate the lone grub to the
left of the root's base [56/450] and proceed to the save point. Save your game
and crawl through the dark tunnel. There are two grubs on the right wall and
one on the left wall, so make sure to snag them [59/450] before proceeding.
Up ahead, the scorpion witnesses a king scorpion obliterating some bugs in a
badass fashion. The creatures fights just like yourself, constantly blocking
your attacks and using your same combos. Block the king scorpion's attack,
then quickly retaliate. End the battle with a Finishing Move and you will
learn the Dig ability.
Before testing out your new ability, scrounge the area for grubs. There are
two lying on a wall between two cracks [61/450]. Okay, now you can try
digging. Repeately shake both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck when standing next
to a cracked portion of the wall. Unfortunately, the three cracks contain
pillbugs.
However, we can uncover another cracked wall we passed earlier on. Backtrack
through the tunnel, past the save point, and onto the root bridge. Head back
to the fork on the root. This time, take the other path to reach a cracked
wall. Dig through to uncover a small cave containing three leaf crickets
[4/24] and three grubs [64/450]. What a find!
Return to where you defeated the king scorpion and approach the giant root
buried in the ground. Follow the smaller roots and climb onto the wall, which
creates a neat path that takes you onto the root. Feed on the pair of grubs on
the path leading to the root [66/450] and climb on the root. Defeat the wolf
spider hanging around here.
The root takes you to another cracked wall. Dig your way through to uncover a
new area. Aside from a few bug corpses, all you'll find here is a save point
and two grubs [68/450]. Dig ahead and move through to complete your Adventure
Goal!
Find a way out of The Underground - COMPLETED
Take down the final grub [69/450] and follow the path to the left. Enter the
large cavern and walk to the center. Start digging on the piece of brown dirt
to trigger a scene. As a king scorpion enters the room to fight, an even
bigger threat appears!
.--------------------.
--| BOSS: Gila Monster |------------------------------------------------------
'--------------------'
The gila monster is far too powerful to be taken down, so your task is to
escape from its grasp while avoiding its attacks. Luckily, the gila monster
only has two attacks and are both incredibly predictable. If you are too close
to the boss, it will swing its huge tail and swat you away.
When it roars, it'll get ready to charge you. To avoid the big lizard, dash
out of the way. Remember, you must be moving while you shake the Nunchuck to
use Dash. There are two crickets roaming around the cave if you are in serious
need of health.
Notice the cracked portion of the floor in the very center of the cave; that
is the key to escaping. There are four pieces of weak dirt formations
surrounding this large crack. When you stand over one, the Wii Remote and
Nunchuk will appear on screen, meaning you can dig here.
Stand on top of a dirt pile and wait for the gila monster to attack. Dodge its
charge attack, then return to the dirt pile and frantically dig until the dirt
disappears. Repeat this with the other three to create a hole in the middle of
the room. The scorpion will crawl through the hole to end the fight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape from the Gila Monster - COMPLETED
After the fight's conclusion, save your game to end the chapter.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER THREE: WATCHERS [0303]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Find the Widows' Cathedral
[ ] - Use Web Jump to find a way out of The Brambles
Leaf Crickets: 1 [2/17]
Grubs: 53 [122/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the open path straight ahead to eventually reach a bramble bush. Watch
the following scene as a lizard gets completely obliterated by a swarm of
mites. Approach the swarm and use a Spin Attack to shoo them away. Collect the
lone grub on the left side of the bramble bush entrance [70/450] and head
inside.
There are no turns in the path, so it's basically a straight line to the other
end. Collect the grub inside [71/450] as you approach a low branch. Jump over
it to avoid the thorns and eat the grub on the other side [72/450].
Defeat the mites ahead and you'll find another grub along the way [73/450].
Jump over another thorny branch up ahead and you'll eventually confront some
of wolf spiders. You cannot jump while in the bramble bush, so stick to using
Spin Attacks or other moves. There are six wolf spiders in all to defeat here.
Walk towards the wall at the end and feed on the grub to the side [74/450].
Climb up the wall to reach a cliffside. Before dropping down, jump to the
platform to the right to find another grub [75/450]. You have no choice but to
fall all the way down to the ground.
Unfortunately, you land right in the middle of a black widow spider's den. As
a few black widows lower to the ground from their thread, target one at a
time. You can now use jumping attacks in this large area, so feel free to jump
on top of a black widow and maul it to death. If you ever land on a piece of
webbing on the ground, you'll have to shake both the Wii Remote and the
Nunchuk to free yourself.
After defeating around three black widows, you will receive an Adventure Goal.
There is a total of four grubs here [79/450]. Crawl up the wall at the far end
of the den and climb up to the next area. Save your game up ahead and jump
over the bramble branch up ahead. Eat the grub just past the branch [80/450]
as a black widow scurries away in the distance.
Chase after the spider into another bramble bush. A flame-knee tarantula and a
silverback tarantula emerge from a wounded garden gnome and confront you. What
is a garden gnome doing in a place like this? There are gardens out in the
desert?
Both of these enemies are pretty tough, especially the silverback tarantula.
It will shoot webbing at you, so you will have to shake the Wii Remote and
Nunchuk to free yourself if bound by the sticky thread. Try to jump a lot and
use a Jump Strike to down the spiders. If you wish, you can try using the Web
Shot of your own. Also, test out your new Venom Pounce ability on the two
arachnids.
After the fierce battle, grab the grub to the right of the garden gnome
[81/450] and jump over the bramble branch ahead. You may be keen enough to
spot what looks to be a snake tail just past the branch. When you get close
enough, it slithers away. Snakes... why did it have to be snakes?
Eat the grub to the right [82/450] and walk ahead to witness the food chain in
action. I wonder if this is the same rattlesnake as before? Hop over the
thorny branch and feed on the three grubs here [85/450] (one is tucked nicely
behind the branch you just jumped over. Use Spin Attack on the mites flying
around and hop over the next branch.
Proceed forward to find a cricket, which luckily (for you) doesn't get eaten
by a predator. Feast on it if you need the health, or save it until after the
fight with the king scorpion that emerges from the boot up ahead. If you want
to be a cheap assclown like me, continuously spam your Spin Attack over and
over again... the king scorpion will never get a chance to recover.
Before going inside the boot, walk on top of it to find a nicely hidden grub
[86/450]. That one took me ages to locate. *shakes fist*
Enter the boot and eat the grub inside [87/450]. It must smell bad. Exit out
of the hole in the boot to the other side. Descend into the next chamber to
find a few crickets among a leaf cricket [2/17]. Take note of the cell phone
in the corner. A well-hidden grub is lying in the brush near the cell phone
[88/450]. We find the weirdest assortment of items here. Who loses a cell
phone in a bramble bush anyways?
Climb up the wall past the busted phone and save your game at the save point.
A trio of wolf spiders lie ahead. By defeating them, your max attack power
will most likely increase (I assume if you have a certain number of points
this will occur). Either way, approach the branch, eat the grub on the side
[89/450], then climb the branch.
Since you are basically climbing upwards and gravity is still in tact, hitting
enemies causes them to automatically fall off the branch to their doom.
Collect the grub ahead [90/450] and continue along the branch. Up ahead, you
will find three more grubs alongside a few wolf spiders [93/450].
Maneuvering on the thorny branch can be difficult because you can traverse on
three sides of it (you cannot walk underneath it). Check all sides of the
branch to discover grubs. The camera can get very shakey and it's hard to move
around on the branch without the camera flipping out. Including the four I
already mentioned in the last paragraph, there are a total of nine grubs on
this first branch [98/450].
Eventually, you will reach a dead end, as the branch has been snapped. There
is another branch to your left, so you can jump to it and continue your
journey. Eat the grub lying in plain sight after transferring to the second
branch [99/450]. The good news is that this is the only grub on this branch,
so you can make a beeline across the branch into the tunnel ahead.
Eat the crickets inside and save your game. As you proceed onto the branch up
ahead, it'll break as the tarantula falls into a web below.
Frantically free yourself by following the button commands onscreen before the
black widows can lower onto the web and devour you alive. You have virtually
no time to even think, which makes this challenge so difficult.
Follow the first four commands to break through the web, only to land on
another one below. Again, follow the prompts correctly to break through the
webbing. After breaking through the third web, you fall to the ground along
with the black widows.
The crimson widow is much stronger than her minions, so try using a Venom
Pounce on her. The black widows like to gang up on you, which makes your Spin
Attack much more useful: it can hit multiple enemies at once. After defeating
the enemies, you will learn the Web Jump ability.
Find the Widows' Cathedral - COMPLETE
However, you have a new Adventure Goal. You must escape The Brambles with your
new technique. To use Web Jump, hold C to enter first-person view. If you
manage to find a web patch, point at it and release C to pull yourself to it.
First, save your game, then use Web Jump on the web patch against the bramble
branch. Once you are yanked onto the webbing, crawl up the branch. Eat the
grubs resting here [101/450]. You cannot continue any further due to the
number of thorns blocking your way. Look to the right to find a web patch on
another branch. Shoot over to it and eat the grub [102/450].
Use Web Jump to reach the third branch, then to the fourth branch. Feast on
the grubs as you make your way down the branch [105/450] and once at the end,
find and jump over to the next bramble branch. Take the grub [106/450] and
crawl through the hole ahead.
Head through the cocoon-filled tunnel, saving your game at the save point.
Crawl onto the next branch and you will find a single grub at the end
[107/450]. Web Jump onto the large web and move around. It's pretty hard to
see where you're going when walking on a nearly-transluscent web; there is
only one grub here [108/450], so follow the web to the left.
You should spot another web patch directly above you, so Web Jump onto the
second piece of webbing. Eat the two grubs next to you [110/450] and continue
onto the branch. Move along the branch onto another piece of webbing. Gobble
up the grub [111/450] and proceed onto the other side of the branch.
Immediately upon stepping onto the branch, look ahead at a web patch. Sling
yourself onto it. Devour the grub in front of you and go across the web to
find a second grub [113/450]. Again, Web Jump to the web patch once you reach
a dead end. Boy, this is pretty dang repetitive...
Hey, you know what you should do with the grub right next to you? Eat it
[114/450]. Step onto the bramble branch and you will find two more grubs along
the way [116/450]. Head to the webbing at the end of the road and Web Jump yet
again.
Eat the grub [117/450], walk forward, then jump to the web patch. There are
three grubs here, so ingest them all [120/450]. Web Jump to the final webbing
and feed the grub to yourself [121/450].
Use Web Jump to find a way out of The Brambles - COMPLETE
Chomp down on the final grub in the tunnel [122/450] as you approach the
rattlesnake. Just as it is waiting to strike, one of the humans yanks the
snake out of the hole. Phew! Save your game to complete the chapter.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER FOUR: THE CITADEL [0304]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Invade the Tarantula Hawks' cactus hive
Leaf Crickets: 4 [8/24]
Grubs: 34 [156/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the start of the level, walk forward and dig through the crack in the
wall. This place look familiar? We're back in the same area in the first
chapter, except we're the scorpion now! Eat the grub on the wall to the right
[123/450]. Proceed the other way to encounter a toxic beetle. Avoid the green
goo it spews from its back and kill it.
Near where the toxic beetle stood is a cracked portion of the ground. Before
digging through, look behind the cactus in front of you to find a hidden grub
[124/450]. Burrow through and follow the path to a small room populated by two
king scorpions. Destroy them and feed on the three grubs inside [127/450],
then return to the surface.
The scorpion witnesses a fight occur up ahead. A tarantula hawk manages to
kill a flame-knee tarantula. Collect the grub to your right [128/450] as the
tarantula hawk notices your presence. The bug will fly above you and try to
strike you with its stinger, so always remember to dodge when it dives down.
Attack when it crawls on the ground.
After killing the bug, you will receive a new Adventure Goal.
Save your game up ahead and walk past the tree to the opposite side. Walk
underneath the left side of the rock slab. Ignore the crack in the ground for
now, but instead enter the cavern and eat the three grubs [131/450]. As you
try to leave, you'll be attacked by a bone scorpion. It is no different than a
king scorpion.
Now dig through the hole just outside the cavern to find two grubs [133/450].
Head outside and go through the log. Defeat the mites using a Tail Whip, then
climb up onto the rock jutting out of the right side of the tree; you will
find a grub here [134/450]. Next, exit through the hole and climb over the log
to the other side. Two tarantula hawks will attack one at a time.
After their defeat, collect the two grubs [136/450] and enter the other half
of the tree. Eat the grub hiding in the corner to the right [137/450] and
continue through the tree. Two toxic beetles and a bone scorpion attack from
across the tree. Dash towards the toxic beetles first and kill them
immediately - you don't want to get poisoned by their green goo. After, target
and defeat the bone scorpion.
Go over the hill towards the tree's exit. Eat the grub [138/450] and two leaf
crickets [6/24]. A black barrier prevents you from going any further, so
return to the log's entrance.
Save, then climb on top of the rocks across from the log. Take down the pair
of toxic beetles and eat the grubs [140/450]. Climb down to the other side to
find a tarantula hawk.
After defeating it, walk towards the leftmost wall. Climb on the side and eat
the grubs on the wall [142/450], then fall back down onto the ground. Follow
the path between the wall and the plants, chasing a leaf cricket as you go.
After a small clip showing you where to go, eat the cornered leaf cricket
[7/24]. Make sure to gobble up the grub above the cracked wall [143/450]
before you dig through. As for the grubs on the other side of the wall: we'll
get them a little big later. For now, proceed through the dark tunnel to reach
another open area.
As you approach the bull's skull, a leopard lizard emerges. Cool, we are
fighting now! The lizard is very fast and has a nasty ram attack. Try to block
its bites and attack with big combos, like Scorpio and Thrash Attack. A second
one appears after you eliminate the first. Kill that one as well.
Climb on top of the skull and walk onto a ledge. Follow the spine to find a
grub, then follow the ledge to find a second [145/450]. Climb back down to the
ground and go inside the skull. Ingest the grub here [146/450] and exit
through the other eye socket.
Crawl up the wall; to the right is the way to go, but if you go further up you
will find another crack. Dig through to enter a cavern filled with some grubs
[148/450] and a leaf cricket [8/24]. Exit and follow the wall to the side.
Enter the cave and save your game. Go up the slope to the right of the save
point to find another grub [149/450] and a cracked wall. Burrow through and
move through the tunnel.
You will end up on the other side of the previous area. Eat the grub to the
left and the one in the bottom corner [151/450]. As you maneuver around the
big rock jutting from the wall, you may notice three cracks at the top that
you can dig through. Digging through all three causes the rock to fall to the
ground, conveniently making a new pathway.
Crawl down onto the rock and kill the two toxic beetles. Following the rock
leads you to another crack in which you can dig through. Proceed through the
dimly lit passage to encounter the two humans again, this time digging in the
background.
Drop to the floor and save your game. Crawl up the wall to the right of the
area's entrance. At the top of the wall is a grub [152/450] and a blocked
tunnel. Climb back down and follow the path past the save point. Continue
through as the two humans bicker.
Take down the tarantula hawk up ahead. There's one grub in here, so don't
leave the area without it [153/450]. Continue past the number of cacti until
you reach a dead end. You can walk on the wall to your left, so head on up and
eat the grub along the way [154/450].
The path leads you to a very large shaft: the hive. Before you combat with the
first tarantula hawk, gobble up the two grubs on the sides of the hive room
[156/450]. After defeating one tarantula hawk, two more come to attack. In
total, there are two waves of tarantula hawk pairs. They aren't too much of a
hassle.
Invade the Tarantula Hawks' cactus hive - COMPLETED
After the infantry has been wiped out, walk towards the right side of the hive
room. From the entrance, if you hug the right wall you should find a cracked
portion of the floor. It's really dark, so either turn the brightness up on
your TV or wander around until the Wii Remote/Nunchuck prompts appear on the
screen. Dig through and save at the end to finish the chapter.

CHAPTER FIVE: DUST TO DUST [0305]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Journey to the Citadel Cactus
[ ] - Reach the Lizards' Den
[ ] - Enter the Octopus Canyon
Leaf Crickets: 4 [6/17]
Grubs: 40 [196/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pass through the tunnel to reach the same barren area where you first fought
the leopard lizards in the last chapter. Use Web Jump on the web patch to the
far right. Collect the grub lying on the wall below [157/450], then turn
around and enter the cave.
The tarantula encounters a crimson lizard in the cave. The crimson lizard is
very fast and will often sprint behind you to attack. Try to match its agility
with frequent jumps or you can slow it down with your Web Shot if you're quick
at pointing with the Wii Remote.
Exit the cave after your victory to the outside. Climb onto the wall to your
right and eat the two grubs [159/450]. Descend to the ground right in front of
the skull. Jump over the skull to confront the tarantula hawk. Fighting the
tarantula hawk is easier as the tarantula because you can attack while it is
airborne. Knock it down to the ground with a Jump Strike, then finish it off.
Three more tarantula hawks descend to your location. Take them on one at a
time and you should win this easy fight. A scene plays, revealing your next
destination. Before continuing, jump onto the right ledge (facing the skull)
and devour the two grubs up here [161/450]. Climb onto the skull and jump down
towards the spine. Turn around to find a grub right at base of the head,
behind the bull's right horn [162/450].
Climb onto the skull and use Web Jump to reach the web patch just past the
skull. Climb into the cave and eat the two grubs [164/450]. A flame-knee
tarantula enters the cave as you are about to leave. Defeat it, then feed on
the cricket here if you're in need of health.
Exit the cave and climb across the wall to your right. Aim the pointer towards
the right side of the area, beyond the skeleton's spine, to find another web
patch. Web Jump over to it, then head into the tunnel.
You'll emerge in the oh-so-familiar "log area" as you get a new Adventure
Goal. Save your game and climb along the wall to the left. Eat the grub
[165/450] and Web Jump to the cactus all by itself. Climb to the ground and
kill the two toxic beetles wandering around.
Walk past the log to the left and around its right side (as if you were going
to the entrance of Chapter Four). Defeat the wolf spiders along the way as you
follow the trail as it eventually spills underneath the tree. You will find a
leaf cricket here [3/17]. Return back to the entrance of the tree (which is
blocked off might I add).
While facing away from the tree/log entrance, walk to the right of the giant
stone slab towards a small opening (if you remember from Chapter One, this
path initially led you into this "log area"). Collect the grub on the side of
the rock slab and the one to the right of the passage [167/450]. Enter the
passage and feed on the grub on the floor [168/450].
Continue through to reach the area containing the huge dirt bike overhead. Eat
the grub [169/450] and leaf cricket [4/17], then pass underneath the big wheel
as you hop over the cactus. Defeat the three toxic beetles and save up ahead.
Climb onto the wall and feast on the grubs here [171/450].
Stand on the web patch and look around the area to find another web patch; it
is to the right of your location. Web Jump over to it, then continue along the
wall to find a grub at the end [172/450]. Web Jump to the patch past the dirt
bike and eat the second grub here [173/450]. Turn around and walk across the
wall, eating the grub along the way [174/450]. At the end, Web Jump to yet
another web patch and you will find two grubs here [176/450].
If you couldn't realize it now, you are back at the log area, except you're on
the walls. Spin around to find a web patch on the adjascent wall. Sling your
way there and ingest the grub [177/450]. Walk across the wall above the rock
slab, eating the two grubs here [179/450].
Enter the nearby cave and kill the two crimson lizards inside. Try out your
Stealth Pounce to knock one to the ground, then follow up with a Jump Strike
or other combo. After the lizards have been dealt with, look up at the ceiling
of the cave to find a hole and a web patch. Web Jump up to it and proceed
through the tunnel. Eat the leaf cricket inside [5/17] as well as the grub
[180/450] before emerging outside.
To the left is a dead end featuring two grubs [182/450]. To the right is the
way to go. Proceed to the next web patch and feed on the grub just past it
[183/450]. Web Jump onto the nearby cactus and walk around its side. Look back
at the wall to find another web patch.
Web Jump back onto the wall and proceed forward. Web Jump to the next cactus
and aim towards the far ledge not too far away. Once at this ledge (the cinema
earlier lead you to this area), gobble up the grub near the edge [184/450] and
go inside the tunnel.
At the end of the tunnel, the tarantula encounters the two humans again. Crawl
down the wall and eat the leaf cricket chirping in the corner to the right
[6/17]. This place look familiar too? We were here last chapter when we
invaded the tarantula hawks' hive.
As you enter the next area, the tarantula learns how to feed. The two toxic
beetles and soldier beetle up ahead aren't the best test subjects since they
can probably be killed in one hit, so we'll have to try it out some other
time. Eat the grub to your right [185/450] and move onward.
Journey to the Citadel Cactus - COMPLETED
While you complete one Adventure Goal, you receive another. Go forward and
eliminate the leopard lizard. Take down the grub at the end of the path
[186/450] and climb up the cactus. Eat the grub [187/450] and enter the
tarantula hawk hive again.
Slay the two tarantula hawks that attack and climb up the webbing on the side
of the hive. Web Jump to the central portion of the hive and crawl around its
side. Web Jump to the next patch of webbing, then immediately turn to find
another web patch on the central portion of the hive. Jump over to it, then
walk around the side to find a hole in the cactus.
There is a web patch on the other side of the hole, so Web Jump through to
exit the cactus hive. Eat the nearby grub [188/450] and proceed towards the
lizards' den. Don't worry about trying to get the two grubs on the ceiling; we
will get them a bit later. Save up ahead, eat the crickets, and head into the
intimidating den.
Reach the Lizards' Den - COMPLETED
Feast on the grub near the entrance of the den [189/450] and proceed to the
lit chamber of the den. Two crimson lizards will crawl down from the ceiling
and gang up on the tarantula. Defeat both of the crimson lizards here. Like
you know already, these are pretty tough foes. Try using your Stealth Strike
if afar or Spin Attack to knock them down. Unfortunately, you cannot feed on
lizards when they are overturned.
Another pair will enter the den after the first two are dead. Again, repeat
the same strategy, though this fight may be tougher if you're low on health.
The tarantula will feed on the fourth crimson lizard and learn the Crawl
Upside-Down ability.
Backtrack to the entrance and save your game, then go back to the fighting
grounds. Climb up onto the nearby wall and continue onto the ceiling. Cool!
Once on the ceiling, navigate past all the cocoons and eat the two grubs
[191/450]. Continue along to find two more grubs -- the one I mentioned when
you first entered the lizards' den [193/450]. Crawl to the end of the path to
reach a tunnel, then exit to the other side of the canyon.
Feed on the nearby grub [194/450] and save up ahead. Go through the tunnel to
reach Octopus Canyon. Now I see why it received that name.
Enter the Octopus Canyon - COMPLETED
Chomp on the cricket at the canyon's entrance and maneuver into the canyon. A
horned lizard will emerge from the ground and block your path. The horned
lizard's exterior is so sharp, that even jumping on him will cause you to take
damage. Target the front of the lizard and use Spin Attack and combos such as
Double Strike and Buzzsaw.
If you manage to knock the horned lizard on its back, you will be able to feed
on it. If this happens, you basically seal the deal for yourself. Otherwise,
dodge the horned lizard's ram and continue attacking its face. You can also
eat the cricket if you ever need the strength.
Once the battle ends, the path will open up. Feed on the grub near the cave
entrance [195/450] and move inside. Feast on the final grub resting on the
cave wall [196/450] and save up ahead to complete the chapter.

CHAPTER SIX: ENTANGLED [0306]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Explore the Citadel Cactus
[ ] - Traverse the Octopus Canyon
[ ] - Explore the Wasteland Tunnels
Leaf Crickets: 6 [14/24]
Grubs: 42 [238/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crawl through the chamber as it goes from black to a deep red hue. Eat the one
grub in the passage [197/450] to reach an open area. The scorpion confronts an
angry praying mantis. The bug is very strong and has a few attacks that cannot
be blocked. However, it is very slow - possibly even slower than yourself.
Kill the praying mantis to learn the Chop ability. Swing the Wii Remote and
Nunchuck left and right to chop weeds. Try it out on the weeds blocking the
passage nearby. Exit outside, then turn around and eat the grub lying on top
of the tunnel's exit [198/450].
Chop the weeds lying in your way to exit the citadel cactus.
Explore the Citadel Cactus - COMPLETED

That certainly was an easy goal. Save up ahead and chomp on the grub lurking
in the dark corner to the left [199/450]. Go forward and walk around the
cactus to the left to find another grub [200/450]. Note: the cactus doesn't
look like the stereotypical tall, oval-shaped cactus; it's the one that
resembles an ordinary plant.
Move down the trail and eat the leaf cricket at the dead end [9/24]. We can
now access a new path by chopping the weeds to the left. Do so, eat the grub
in the way [201/450], then proceed to the intersection. Since the left path is
sealed off, go straight instead. Follow the tunnel to none other than Octopus
Canyon!
I'm sure this area looks VERY familiar... this is where the last chapter
ended. Again, a horned lizard shows up here. Kick his horned behind and
proceed into the cave to encounter you-know-who.
Treat this fight just like one against a flame-knee tarantula. It has very
quick attacks, though they can easily be blocked. Guard against the tarantula
when it strikes, then retaliate with a combo. After dealing enough damage, it
will flee.
Now it is your job to track down the tarantula. Follow it to the right to a
save point as you receive yet another goal. The brambles in front of you block
your progression, but there is a batch of weeds to the right. Chop 'em down
and continue on.
Kill the horned lizard that appears ahead, then chop the weeds on the left.
Just as you pass into the new trail, look to the left for s'more weeds. Chop
them to find another grub hiding behind [202/450]. Go ahead to find two scarab
beetles and two soldier beetles. After their death, climb the wall to the
right to ultimately reach a grub [203/450].
Drop back down and go forward. Chop the weeds in front of you and devour the
grub as you crawl onto the side of the wall [204/450]. Continue until you
spill back down onto the ground. Head to the left to find a dead end and a
grub [205/450], then go right until another patch of weeds stop you.
Mow the weeds down and eat the grub just beyond them [206/450]. Before going
to the open area to the left, look straight ahead to find another shiny-white
grub behind some weeds [207/450]. It's hard to spot since the corner is so
dang dark.
Continue to the left and take down the two beetles and horned lizard. It's
probably best to take out the two bugs before you tango with the big cheese.
When the path opens, head through and dig into the ground to complete the
Adventure Goal.
Traverse the Octopus Canyon - COMPLETED
Save up ahead to get a new Adventure Goal. Woo. Go forward through the
obnoxiously dark tunnel to reach a room filled to the brim with weeds. There
are three grubs surrounded by weeds [210/450] as well as a cricket. Chop the
weeds on the southwest side of the room to uncover a small path. Go inside the
dark red cave room to find two grubs [212/450] and a leaf cricket [10/24].
Return to the main room and chop the weeds at the north end to continue.
Approach the cracked wall at the end and dig through, but not before feasting
on the grub to the right of the wall [213/450]. Go on through the small
passage and cut the weeds to the left. Move through, chopping the weeds as you
go.
Chop the weeds in front of the wall and climb up onto the big red box. Eat the
grub on top [214/450] and look on the ground to the left of the box to find a
leaf cricket [11/24]. Up ahead is another group of weeds blocking a fork. Chop
the weeds and go to the left.
Follow the winding path to reach a dead end. A soda can is blocking the hole
in front, but there are two spots in which you can dig at the base of the can.
Do so for... nothing to happen. Don't worry, be patient.
Return to the fork and go to the right. Before you miss it, take the grub
resting on the bend [215/450]. Kill the two praying mantis that ambush you,
then move down the path to reach a ditch and a ledge. We cannot reach the
ledge, but you may notice the soda can to the right. Chop the weeds under the
can; it will drop into the ditch, creating a stepping stone.
Eat the grub here [216/450] and enter the big room. Ingest the leaf cricket
[12/24] and the whole batch of grubs inside [219/450], then continue through
the tunnels. In the huge open area, proceed to the center.
Three desert rats will drop in from above; two leave while one stays to fight.
The desert rat actually isn't that difficult at all and is fairly weak
compared to the horned lizard. Its Finishing Move sequence is cool though.
Pick up the grub in the middle of the room [220/450] and take the southwest
exit. Dig through the crack at the end proceed through the close quarters to a
save point and an incredibly awful area. No, it doesn't get much brighter.
It actually gets darker, making the rest of the level almost impossible to
perfectly explore. The best way to actually figure out where to go is to stay
on the brightened part of the floor. Every once in a while you can stray off
to find grubs and such.
Save, then take the path on the left. Immediately look to the left to find a
cluster of weeds imprisoning a poor grub [221/450]. Defeat the albino rat and
toxic beetle, then chop the weeds on the right side of the left path to find
another grub [222/450].
Follow the path straight ahead to find some more weeds blocking the way. Cut
them down to enter a small area, where you can find three grubs [225/450].
From the entrance of this tiny spot, hug the left wall to find another small
patch of weeds. Chop them down to free a leaf cricket, then eat it [13/24].
Backtrack to the right. Kill the two toxic beetles and chop the weeds at the
back corner to find a grub [226/450]. At the end of the path is another batch
of weeds that can be chopped down. Cut it down, feast on the grub to the left
[227/450], then move forward.
Cut through the three batches of weeds to enter a room painfully similar to
the last. At the front of the area is a grub [228/450]. On the left is a toxic
beetle and a grub trapped behind some weeds [229/450]. To the right is an
albino rat and a grub just [230/450] waiting to be captured.
Straight ahead from the entrance are two toxic beetles and a praying mantis.
Gobble up the grub on the left side of the central chamber [231/450]. There
are three patches of weeds here. The one on the right simply leads to the
right side of the room and the southwest one leads to the left side of the
room.
So chop down the remaining patch of weeds to not only find a grub [232/450],
but the second half of the area. Slay the toxic beetle and eat the two grubs
on the left and right side of the room [234/450].
Pass by the weeds to the right and continue forward. Eat the grub hidden in
the grass on the left [235/450], then continue into a circular chamber. Move
around the big rock in the center of the room; you should find two grubs
[237/450] and a leaf cricket [14/24] in one lap.
Return to the weeds and cut them down. Proceed through the tunnel to complete
your Adventure Goal.
Explore the Wasteland Tunnels - COMPLETED
Feed on the final grub here [238/450] and save to finish this god-awful
chapter. I pray that I never have to return to the Wasteland Tunnels again.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER SEVEN: THE FORGOTTEN [0307]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Discover a path to The Wasteland
[ ] - Reach the top of the cliffs beyond the Truck
Leaf Crickets: 8 [14/17]
Grubs: 106 [344/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The path to The Wasteland is through Octopus Canyon, and it's generally the
same direction that you took as the scorpion. Since you cannot chop down weeds
as the tarantula, you'll have to resort to other abilities, like jumping and
Web Jump.
Hop over the bramble in front of you and kill the crimson lizard on the other
side. Walk onto the web patch to your right. Look around to spot another one
across the wall and latch on. Crawl across the wall to find a grub [239/450]
before heading down to the ground.
Defeat the horned lizard and go to the left to find another low branch. Jump
over it. Eat the grubs to the left of you as well as the one straight ahead
[241/450].
Follow the path to a wall; pass the wall and leap over the low thorn branch.
Take down the horned lizard and feed on the grubs here; don't forget the one
in the dark corner to the right [244/450]. If you remember, this is the place
where as the scorpion you buried into the Wasteland Tunnels.
Head back to the wall and climb up, collecting the grubs as you go. Pass the
web patch to find a few more grubs [249/450]. Return to the web patch and Web
Jump to the nearest web. Collect the grubs here [251/450] and Web Jump to the
third web. Follow the wall to find another bunch of grubs [255/450].
Two lizards will run to the ground and guard the area. Before pursuing them,
snag the grub on the wall in front of you [256/450]. Kill the two lizards
below and eat the grub down here [257/450], then enter the hole high up on the
wall. Eat the grub inside [258/450] and save your game.
Discover a path to The Wasteland - COMPLETED
Up ahead, you will spot the two humans again as they finally found what they
have been looking for. Aaaand... anyone with a brain could've figured out what
happens next. Follow the narrow path over a certain someone's boot to the
other side. Eat the leaf cricket hopping about [7/17] and continue forward.
A desert rat populates the next area, who scares away the pack of wolf
spiders. Lets prove to the world that you're not as big of a wuss as those
guys! Kill the desert rat; of course, the spiders come out of hiding once it's
gone. Finish off the pansy spiders as well to open the path leading inside the
busted old-school television. Eat the grub on the monitor and the one on top
of the TV before heading inside [260/450].
On the right side of the television is an overturned toy truck. Eat the grubs
on the truck [262/450] and the leaf cricket back here [8/17]. Note that there
is a third grub down on the ground near the cricket [263/450]. Now you can
proceed inside the television.
Eliminate the black widow and crimson widow residing inside the TV. There are
a total of five grubs inside here, so check the walls, ceiling, and the column
in the center to find then all [268/450]. Exit out the rear end and crawl to
the right to locate another grub [269/450]. Turn back and save up ahead.
Feast on the grub lying on the wall [270/450] and follow the wall to reach the
other side. Crawl down onto the ground to find a grub [271/450]. You clearly
cannot chop down the weeds to the left, so continue forward as you kill the
three beetles. You will find a few more circling around the pile of bricks in
the middle of this area. A grub is resting on the right side of where you
entered, tucked in a corner between the debris [272/450].
If you go around the back end of the bricks, you can find a slope leading to
the top of 'em. Look across to find a web patch high above some cinderblocks.
Web Jump over to it. Crawl down and leap across the gap onto a cinderblock.
Wow, an actual (albeit short) platforming section! Eat the grub [273/450],
then turn and jump onto the wooden beam. Crawl to the ledge.
Turn to the left immediately after emerging onto the ledge and hug the edge to
reach a small slope blocked by some weeds. You can find a grub here [274/450].
Defeat the trio of wolf spiders up ahead. The path continues towards a cracked
wall, so instead climb up on the crate to the right of the cracked wall. As
you proceed to the other side of the crate, you'll see George dragging Wade's
body. Continue to the top of the wood. Before you can go much further, an
albino rat blocks your path. Slay the colorless beast and climb down the hatch.
Collect the two grubs on the wall and ceiling [276/450], then drop to the
ground. Eat the other grub along the path [277/450] as you admire the house in
the not-too-far distance. However, the sightseeing soon comes to an end as two
desert rats run along in front of you.
After you manage to take out both foes, walk around the opened pizza box. You
will find a leaf cricket on the other side [9/17]. Next, go underneath the box
and climb on the inside to find a grub resting here [278/450]. There's nothing
else to do out here, so enter the front door of the house.
Odd; this seems awfully small to be a house. Maybe it is a doll house?
Regardless, eat the cricket on the wall to the left of the door and the one on
the ceiling [280/450]. Pass through to reach the overturned terrarium and face
off against the former pets. These two bone scorpions are pretty tough to take
on together, so try to hit them both with a Spin Attack. Cheapest move ever.
Eat the leaf cricket [10/17] and the grub [281/450] inside the terrarium, then
return to the house. Climb up the wall to reach the second floor. Walk around
the bend to face off against a black widow spider. Once victorious, climb onto
the ceiling to find another grub [282/450] and also feed on the one to the
left of the staircase [283/450].
Hop up the stairs into the attic. After eating the grub on the ceiling
[284/450], save your game here at the save point. Web Jump onto the lamp and
look around the lampshade to find another web patch behind the terrarium. Drop
down to the web and crawl onto the top of the terrarium to find a grub
[285/450]. Climb down to the ground...
..as two horned lizards to emerge from the earth. These two lizards should
not pose too much of a threat to you. After the fight, a tunnel to the right
of the terrarium will open. Before heading inside, walk behind the base of the
lamp to find a nicely-placed grub [286/450].
Go through the tunnel and try to make your way through the pitch-black spot
until it gets a little lighter. Eat the two grubs in the pipe [288/450] and
enter the next part of the area. This area is a little bigger and brighter as
light peeks in through the numerous tiny holes.
While there are no grubs inside this pipe-like structure, the tarantula will
be ambushed by a group of wolf spiders. While the first wave is only four or
five spiders, more and more will storm the area as they die. In total, you
have to deal with around ten to twelve spiders. While they are fairly weak
individually, fighting enemies at that number is very stressful.
Once you make it out alive, crawl out to exit into the open again. Drop down
from the pipe and save your game up ahead.
Return to the pipe and go to the left of it to find a leaf cricket [11/17].
Crawl on top of the pipe to find some grubs. Climb onto the square button on
the top of it for a grub [289/450], then head to the other end. Crawl down
onto the tube to find a grub [290/450] and drop to the left and feast on the
second grub [291/450] and another leaf cricket [12/17].
Return to the save point. Pass by the wheel planted in the dirt next to you
and head towards the darkened corner. Eat the pillbug and the leaf cricket
[13/17], then climb on the wall to reach the pair of grubs [293/450].
Crawl onto the wheel and feast on the grub [294/450], then climb up the axel
to the other wheel high above. Eat the grub on this wheel [295/450] and hoist
yourself up to the side of the truck. A few tarantula hawks will attack, so
defeat them all. Crawl to the back end of the truck to find a grub [296/450].
Eat it, then go across the edge of the truck to reach the truck's bed. It's
filled with junk which makes it very difficult to maneuver around. First off,
feast on the grubs here [297/450], then climb on the left side of the wall for
the grub over the wheel well [298/450]. There is a wooden beam lying off of
the end of the truck bed; if you climb down it, you can find a grub [299/450].
Okay, return to the side of the truck again. Proceed towards the front of the
truck to reach a hole leading to the other side of the truck bed.
Eat the grub on the wall straight ahead (kinda to the left) [300/450]. Climb
down onto the truck bed and go right along the cleared path. Chomp on the grub
next to the web patch [301/450]. Web Jump to the webbing on your left. Crawl
along the wooden beam. Maneuver around the tip of the beam so that you are on
the other side of it. Look to the left to spot two grubs past a group of
nails. Hop over the nails and devour the two grubs [303/450], then jump back
over and go on the underside of the wooden beam.
Turn around and you will find another web patch that you can reach. It's a
very straightforward path filled with a few grubs [307/450].
Eventually, you can climb down onto the dirt. A nasty flame-knee tarantula and
silverback tarantula stand in your way, though they should not put up much of
a fight.
Locate the grub next to the bowling pin after the fight [308/450]. Climb onto
the colorful wall above you to find s'more grubs [309/450]. While this seems
like a dead end, we can Web Jump onto a round trash container. Do so and walk
down to get a layout of the upcoming area.
Web Jump onto the big television/radio/electronic device and feed on the poor
grub [310/450]. Locate the webbing on what looks to be a baby carriage. Web
Jump over to find a grub [311/450]. Sling to the stack of pizza boxes and eat
the grub to the left [312/450]. Enter the hole nearby to find a save point.
You'll find a grub-tastic meal just to your right beyond save point [313/450].
Climb up the rubble and eat the cricket for some health. Your next destination
is that pit below you. You can probably spot the praying mantis below. That's
never good. Before you begin your descent, walk around the right side of the
circular hole to find a grub in the corner [314/450].
The praying mantis and sand mantis are both fairly tough foes. Try to use a
Jump Strike to initiate the fight, then a Spin Attack to knock 'em on their
back. As they write around like turtles trying to flip over, feed on their
soft underbellies.
There are three grubs on the walls of this circular pit (most likely a bucket
or something) [317/450]. Some are tricky to find as they are resting just
underneath the rim. After collecting them, enter the small hole at the bottom
of the floor. Navigate around the springs in this maze-like place (just where
are we?). There are a few crickets along with a grub [318/450] along the way.
When you exit out into the daylight, turn back around and climb on top of the
structure you were just inside. Looks like a mattress! Collect the grubs
[320/450] and leaf cricket up here [14/17].
Drop down and continue forward for a scene. Some desert rats like to spoil the
fun and confront you. I always find this son of a gun difficult to fight, and
we have to deal with two rats at a time. When one dies, an albino rat enters
the battlefield along with two wolf spiders. Get rid of the arachnids first,
then focus on the rat.
After the battle, climb onto the side view mirror of the car and into the
passenger side. There are plenty of grubs in the front of the car: three on
the walls and ceiling [323/450], two on the seat [325/450], one on each door
[327/450], two on the dashboard [329/450], and one in the glove compartment
[330/450]. Phew!
And we're not even finished yet! Time to go to the bottom of the car. Climb
down the seat until you are underneath it. Feast on the two grubs on the
underside of the seat [332/450], then descend to the floor of the car to find
one grub just underneath the seat and another near the feet space of the
passenger side [333/450].
After all that collecting, save on the bottom of the passenger side. Head to
the driver's side and proceed through the hole next to the gas pedal. Devour
the grub just outside the hole [335/450] and follow the long... tube thing.
Yeah, I can manage the interior anatomy of a car but not the exterior.
As you go across this... tube thing, you should find two grubs along the way
[337/450]. Turn back towards the hole and walk to the left (facing the hole).
Boy, the terrible descriptions increase tenfold!
Crawl across the web and Web Jump to the web patch. Climb off of the... square
thing and walk forward. Eat the grub on the ground below a second web patch
[336/450]. Ya know, Web Jump up there! Chomp on the grub here [339/450] and
follow the tube onto the grill. After feasting on the grilled grubs (haha...
wait, that makes no sense) [341/450], go across the grill and onto a web that
leads through one of the empty headlights.
We've reached the other side! Take care of the grub in front of you [342/450]
and climb onto the side of the truck. Kill the horned lizard roaming around
and head onto the window to your left. Eat the grub [343/450], then backtrack
onto the side of the truck.
Head to the far right side of the truck to find a small piece of webbing that
allows you to go on the underside of the truck. Stand on the edge of this
webbing (as in, stay on the side and don't go underneath) and look across the
area to a sign that says "no dumping". Web Jump onto the web patch just to the
right of the sign.
Climb across the web to find another web patch. Launch over to it, then go
across the metal beam. Eat the grub along the way [344/450] and Web Jump when
you reach the end. Climb up to complete your Adventure Goal.
Reach the top of the cliffs beyond the Truck - COMPLETED
The level ends as George picks you up.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER EIGHT: ECHOES [0308]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Explore the Wasteland and reach the Culvert
[ ] - Make your way back up to the surface
Leaf Crickets: 5 [19/24]
Grubs: 43 [387/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This level takes place during the climax of the story, but from the scorpion's
point of view. After escaping from a lizard, wait around until George kills
Wade. Climb on top of the lizard's corpse after its dying proclamation and
onto the wall. Grab the first grub [345/450] before emerging onto the surface.
Walk over the shovel and down the path until you reach a patch of weeds. Chop
them down and move through the piping. Before chopping down the weeds in front
of you, inspect the right side of the area after emerging from the pipe to
find a grub tucked in the corner [346/450].
Cut down the second and third set of weeds up ahead to reach a familiar area.
Before continuing, go to the right to find a grub next to a cloudy barrier
[347/450].
Return to the main path and go forward, just like you did in the last level as
the tarantula. There are no enemies here, so use the time to collect the two
grubs here [349/450]. Since you cannot jump across cinderblocks like the
tarantula, you'll have to cut the weeds past the pile of bricks. Do so, then
proceed to spot a spider fleeing the scene. Could that be the tarantula?
Go to the right and walk onto the wooden plank to feed on the two grubs
[351/450]. As you try and pursue the mysterious spider, two desert rats will
attack. Defeat them both (which I find to be a much easier task than with the
stupid tarantula) and follow the path. Since you cannot climb on the crate,
instead dig through the crack in the wall.
As you proceed through the tunnel, make sure to free (then eat) the grub
trapped behind the weeds on the right side [352/450]. Chop the weeds at the
tunnel's exit and walk across the toy soldiers to find another grub [353/450].
Go across this mini-battlefield to be attacked by an albino rat.
After the fight, walk underneath the acoustic guitar. As you pass under it,
walk onto the neck of the guitar to find two grubs [355/450] and a leaf
cricket on top [15/24].
Get down from the guitar and continue on towards the save pont. Head down the
path and cut the weeds to reach an intersection. To the right is a dead end
and a couple grubs [357/450]. Go left towards the stereo. As you approach it,
the cassette player springs open, revealing a leaf cricket [16/24]. Don't
forget to also feed on the grub resting on the stereo [358/450].
Proceed along the dirt trail, killing the toxic beetles that stand in your
way. Chop the weeds and head 'round the corner up a slope, where a praying
mantis and sand mantis will attack. First off, eat the grub to the right of
the top of the slope [359/450]. You will have to defeat around four mantis and
two wolf spiders.
Upon winning, follow the path as you crawl over a doll's face. Enter the
tunnel to complete your mission.
Explore the Wasteland and reach the Culvert - COMPLETED
Save up ahead and follow the metal bar on your right. As you reach the tip,
walk on the other side of it to find a grub back near the doll [360/450]. Head
towards the grating and chop the weeds here to reveal a crack in the floor.
Burrow into the hole and head underground. Crap, I better not find myself in a
pitch-black dump like last time...
Hey, it's not that bad actually! Go through the tunnel as the scorpion slides
down a ramp and onto a giant spiderweb! Like in Chapter Three, you will have
to perform the button commands shown onscreen to escape from the descending
black widows. After breaking through three webs, you'll land on the floor
along with the spiders.
After you defeat them all, scrounge the area for grubs. There are three in
total, though all are relatively easy to find as you won't have to dig through
the deepest, darkest corners of the area. One is in plain sight, another is
behind a bottle against the metal grating, and one is on a wall [363/450].
Continue up said wall once ready to reach a passage and a save point.
You will get a new Adventure Goal as you go beyond the save point. Now it's
time to get back up to the surface! Eat the grub on the path [364/450] and
move onward. Cut the weeds blocking your way to enter a large room occupied by
some bone scorpions. Show them who's boss.
Eat the grub on the left wall [365/450] and continue as the barrier opens up
to spill into a giant shaft.
On the right, walk over the wooden beam to find a grub [366/450] and a leaf
cricket lurking behind [17/24]. Dispose of the weeds in the way and begin
climbing up the giant wall displayed in front of you.
A few wolf spiders will attack you on the wall, though you can use gravity to
your advantage and dispatch them quite easily. Continue along the wall until
it narrows into a small tunnel. Go through to reach another open area. A few
wolf spiders and a silverback tarantula will confront you, so show 'em what
you've got.
After, go to the left into the ditch to find a grub [367/450]. Next, climb up
the ramp on the left to reach a pipe holding another grub [368/450]. Yummy!
Dig through the large crack in the wall and immediately eat the grub on the
other side [369/450]. Continue forward to find three toxic beetles; slay them.
After their deaths, an albino rat joins the party! There's nothing here other
than a dead rat; go forward and crawl onto the wall back inside the shaft.
Feast on the grub in front of you [370/450] and proceed up the wall alongside
the dangling chains. When you reach solid ground, save your game and go
forward. Dig away at the cluster of pebbles until they fully disappear,
creating a nasty rock slide! However, the path in front of you has now opened
up, so it's not all bad.
Go along the rocks to find another small patch of rocks. Dig away at them to
create a much bigger rock slide, though also creating a new opening in the
process. Enter the tunnel and devour the grub ahead [371/450]. The two albino
rats in this open area can be very annoying. They always hop around and gang
up on poor you.
Eat the grub on the opposite side [372/450] and follow the left path. As you
emerge into the chasm again, take down the grub in front of you [373/450] and
continue to the left to find another grub [374/450] and a cracked wall in
which you can burrow through. Inside, you'll find a grub behind the cup
[375/450] and two leaf crickets [19/24].
Backtrack to the tunnel that led you here and this time go to the right. This
part is pretty tricky, for I discovered it totally by accident. Walk to the
right towards some black rocks. You cannot crawl over them, so instead climb
onto the brown column sticking out of the ground (you can always use the lil'
navigation arrow to figure out where to go).
Follow the pillar as you eat the grub along the way [376/450]. Continue along
the brown pillar past the chains to reach a ledge. From here, enter a very
dark tunnel. There are a total of four grubs inside the tunnel, and you should
be able to spot all of them with little to no trouble [380/450].
You will emerge into another large chamber. The grated ceiling allows some
light to shine through, finally. Crawl to the ground and defeat the three
black widows. Collect the three grubs in here [383/450]. The exit can be
reached by climbing onto the pipe on the left side of the room. Move through
the hole into the next room.
Step off of the pipe after entering the room and descend to the floor. After
making short work of the three crimson widows, eat the grubs found on the
ground [386/450]. Return to the pipe and go across it to the adjascent end of
the room. Step off onto the batch of three pipes stretching to the left and
proceed to the next room.
Make your way back up to the surface - COMPLETED
I know, we're still missing one grub. Have no fear! Continue down the winding
cave to find the final grub [387/450] resting on a dead rat in front of the
save point. Grab it, then save to finish the chapter.
==============================================================================
CHAPTER NINE: DISPLACED [0309]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Escape from your terrarium
[ ] - Find a way out of the Gas Station
Leaf Crickets: 3 [17/17]
Grubs: 32 [419/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The game reverts back to the tarantula, who has been trapped in a terrarium
inside George Struggs' gas station!
You ready for the easiest Adventure Goal yet? Okay, prepare yourself. There is
a hole on the top of the terrarium, and you can spot a web patch through the
hole. Try to Web Jump, only to get knocked on the ceiling. The rattlesnake
will flip out, eventually breaking open its terrarium and breaking the entire
shelf. Well, that's not how I expected to get out, but you're still freed!
Escape from your terrarium - COMPLETED
From the top of your terrarium, jump to the left towards the wall socket.
Defeat the two wolf spiders on the floor. Climb onto the table supporting the
TV to find a grub [388/450]. Next, walk around the back end of the television
to spot another grub on the adjascent wall. Crawl to the ground, then crawl up
the wall to get it [389/450].
Continue up onto the table (which is to the right of the electrical socket)
and eat the grub on the back of the small box [390/450].
Head towards the electrical socket and feed on the grub on its left [391/450].
Next, continue up the wall to spot another grub on top of a picture frame
[392/450]. Climb onto the ceiling and you should be able to locate two more
grubs on the ceiling, hanging just above what appears to be a furnace or water
heater (the big cylindrical thingy) [394/450].
A tricky grub is actually found BEHIND the cylinder. While on the ceiling,
walk towards the the fan and turn around when you're halfway or so there.
Press 1 to look around and try to look at the top of the cylinder: you should
find a grub underneath the top of it. Face the grub so you can walk straight
ahead to eventually crawl behind the big machine and eat it [395/450].
Go clockwise around the ceiling (with your back against the heater and facing
the fan). You cannot go on the other walls due to a narrow pipe blocking you,
so simply walk around the perimeter. You should find a grub in the far left
corner [396/450]. Eat the grub next to the upside-down deer head [397/450] and
walk around the hole under the mounted head. Climb onto the wall to the right
of the deer head and capture the grub [398/450], then return to the ceiling.
As you continue around the perimeter of the ceiling, you should find two more
grubs. One is on the wall to the left and the second is near... I'm not sure
what it is exactly, but it almost looks like a mushroom =) [400/450]. After
completing one lap, crawl towards the fan and eat the grub at its base
[401/450].
Return to the wall with the socket and the cylindrical furnace thing. From the
ceiling, climb down onto the left side of the wall to land on a shelf. Defeat
the three wolf spiders lurking around. Once on the shelf, climb over the shoe
box to find a grub [402/450] and a leaf cricket [15/17]. Make sure to crawl
onto the underside of the shelf to find yet another grub [403/450].
Climb down the curtains onto the ledge, then down the file cabinet. Proceed
onto the open drawer and look across towards the table. Beneath you is a blue
safe, but if you look across you should spot a few grubs on the side of the
table. Jump onto the safe, then to the ground.
Go behind the safe to find a broom lying up in the corner. Climb onto the wall
and search behind the broom for a grub [406/450].
Defeat any praying mantis around and climb onto the wall to the left of the
safe (when facing it). Devour the three grubs (one is by itself near the safe,
the other two are near a stack of boxes) [407/450]. It's hard to figure out
where you're going on the floor since there are so many dark corners and
shadowy figures. Crawl under the overturned candlestick on the floor to find a
save point. Joy!
From the save point, look straight ahead towards the pile of black garbage
bags. Head behind the bags onto the wall to locate a tasty grub [408/450].
There are a few wolf spiders back here; take 'em to town. Drop down and return
to the save point, then make your way up on the central table.
Pass by the beer bottles and shotgun towards the cash register. Step on the
various buttons to open the register. You should hear the familiar chirp of a
cricket, so look around the table to find a leaf cricket that emerged from
inside the register [16/17].
Backtrack to the save point; look above you to spot two grubs on the underside
of the shelf. Climb up the wall and eat 'em [410/450], then continue up the
shelf to the very top. Eat the grub on the box [411/450] and continue along
the shelf to find a rattlesnake! Don't worry... it's fake.
Time to head to the other side of the room! Pass by the central table back
towards the shelf where you were imprisoned. Defeat the praying mantis and
sand mantis, then hug the left side of the room. Walk past the blue stove
towards a tall green vending machine.
Eat the grub underneath the vending machine [412/450] and proceed towards
theother end. You should hear a cricket nearby, so look around to find the
final leaf cricket [17/17]. Like, the FINAL leaf cricket. Yay!
We're able to climb the wall that the terrariums were on, but we have one more
grub to get nearby. Take note of the shovel leaning up against the wall, kay?
Walk towards the broken terrarium, passing by the jars and bottles. A grub is
found on the wall under the toppled shelf [413/450].
Return to the shovel and climb up onto the wall next to it. There are three
grubs up here on the wall: one is on the upper corner and the other two are on
both sides of the framed photo [416/450].
Alrighty, time to escape this place! Backtrack to the ground and climb on top
of the TV. Aim at the web patch on the hanging switch for the fan. When you
Web Jump to the switch, the tarantula will turn the fan on as it lands on the
table.
Defeat the sand mantis that appears out of nowhere, then look up at the
spinning fan. As it slowly moves around and around, aim at the fan blade
covered in sticky webbing. When you Web Jump onto it, the fan will throw you
right onto the mounted deer head.
Crawl inside the mouth and out the other end to go inside the wall. Crawl
above you to find two grubs [418/450], then head down to find another one
[419/450]. Continue down to the ground and eat the two crickets, then exit the
gas station. You know it! Woo woo woo!
Find a way out of the Gas Station - COMPLETED
Save to the right, then climb down onto the ground for a cutscene. That dang
rattlesnake is back, and it's ready to finish this once and for all. Cue the
dramatic music and wall of flames, and here you have another boss fight. Yeah,
it's been a while, hasn't it?
.-------------------.
--| BOSS: Rattlesnake |-------------------------------------------------------
'-------------------'
The fight begins exactly the same as the one from Chapter One. The rattlesnake
will move its head and hiss before it's about to strike. This time it strikes
two times in a row, so prepare to jump one after another to avoid both hits.
Again, the rattlesnake will lower its rattle off of the high ledge after three
attacks or so.
Attack the shining rattle to simply anger the boss (aside from damaging it).
The process will repeat itself, so attack the snake's rattle three times to
start the second stage of the fight.
The rattlesnake seemingly retreats behind the gas pump, so Web Jump onto it to
begin the second half. As you lay vertically along the pump, the rattlesnake
will attack from above. You cannot jump now, but if you stay at the very
bottom of the screen the boss's bites should not reach you at all.
After a few attacks, the rattlesnake will open its mouth as it begins to
shine. Move closer to it and aim a Web Shot at it. If you manage to pull off a
Web Shot on its mouth, you'll encase its head in sticky webbing. Once that
happens, use Web Jump to leap onto the rattler's head. From here on, a button
sequence will begin. Successfully completing it will end the boss fight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sly tarantula manages to escape from the rattlesnake again. See ya!

CHAPTER TEN: CONVERGENCE [0310]
==============================================================================
[ ] - Exit the Restroom
[ ] - Reach the front porch
[ ] - Investigate the Bug Zapper
[ ] - Knock 5 enemies into the Bug Zapper
[ ] - Sting Struggs below the belt
[ ] - Sting Struggs again
[ ] - Sting Struggs one last time
[ ] - Head for the door
Leaf Crickets: 5 [24/24]
Grubs: 31 [450/450]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's the final chapter! Turn around and snag the first grub [420/450] before
moving on. As you emerge from the... toilet (just lovely), crawl down to the
floor. Two desert rats appear from out of a white box. Kill them, then inspect
the box to find a grub [421/450]. Look underneath the newspaper to the right
for a grub [422/450] and a leaf cricket [20/24].
Check on the side of the toilet and behind it for two more grubs [424/450].
Climb the wall behind the scummy toilet. You won't be able to go far due to
the piping blocking you from the upper portion of the wall, but you can get a
few grubs here. First, feed on the grub above you [425/450]. Next, crawl down
to the floor and walk around the toilet. Climb up the wall to reach the grub
near the toilet handle [426/450].
Climb back up the wall on the left side of the toilet and go behind the water
radiator. There are two grubs behind it [428/450]. Continue around the room to
reach what looks to be a urinal. Climb down to the floor and pass by the
toilet. Continue up the wall to the right of the toilet.
Eat the grub in the top-left corner [429/450] and make your way to the wall on
the left. The crimson lizards aren't too threatening if you face down towards
the floor. That way when the lizard is below you and you use and attack,
gravity works its magic as the creature plummets to the bathroom floor.
Feast on the next grub near the piping [430/450] and continue around the
urinal. Enter the sink to find another grub [431/450] and a leaf cricket
hopping around inside [21/24]. Get back onto the wall and continue to find the
last crimson lizard. After you slay it, the exit to the bathroom will be
pointed out.
Exit through the small open window to your freedom. Grab the grub above you on
the wall [432/450], then descend to the ground.
Exit the Restroom - COMPLETED
At the bottom, dispose of the two bone scorpions and get to chopping the many
patches of weeds down here. Cut the weeds to the right of the door for a grub
[433/450] and a leaf cricket [22/24]. Walk behind the green bottle strewn on
the ground and free the two grubs from the weedy prison [435/450].
Lastly, cut the weeds to the left of the restroom door for the exit. As soon
as you cut down the weeds, go behind the two soda cans to your left and chop
the weeds for another grub [436/450]. Continue to the next area.
Save your game and replenish your health by eating the crickets, then move
forward to encounter a pair of desert rats. Defeating them both prompts the
entrance of an albino rat.
Once the enemies are dead, proceed up the right wall. Eat the grub in the far
right corner [437/450]. Follow the piping along the wall and it'll eventually
bend upwards. Continue along the pipe to find a grub high up on the opposite
side of the wall [438/450]. Next, climb down to reach a tire leaning on the
wall; check behind it for another grub [439/450].
Head up the other wall and kill the crimson lizard, then go across the stack
of tires. Upon climbing to the other side, walk to the left to enter a dark
alcove populated by a lone grub [440/450]. Next, follow the tires to the right
to find a second grub in a dark corner [441/450].
Continue straight ahead towards a high ledge. Climb up the wall next to the
ledge, feed on the grub [442/450], then move over the edge to reach the front
porch. That wasn't so bad.
Reach the front porch - COMPLETED
Climb down from the front porch onto the ground. This area look familiar to
you yet? To the left is a group of grubs sitting by themselves [444/450].
Follow the wall to find another grub near a stop sign and barricade [445/450].
Kill the crimson lizard wandering about, then look across the wooden barricade
to faintly spot some weeds hidden in the wall. Chop them away to find a leaf
cricket [23/24].
Continue hugging the perimeter of the yard. You'll pass by a metal support
beam and the gas pump before reaching a grub hidden behind two narrow wooden
planks [446/450]. Follow the path and squeeze through the tight space between
the grass and big metal barrel thing. Up ahead is another metal support beam,
though there is a grub lying on the base of this one [447/450].
The space up ahead is pretty open, so head to the other side to find a grub
[448/450] and another batch of weeds. Cut 'em down to free the final leaf
cricket [24/24]. Like, the REAL FINAL leaf cricket!!
After completing a successful lap around the yard, return to the front porch.
Near where we entered the area is a cracked flower pot (next to a pizza box).
Pass by the pot to find a red paint roller lying against the wall; ingest the
grub next to the paint roller [449/450].
Save your game at the front door. Go up the wall to the left of the front
door. Eat the very last grub in the top corner [450/450]. REJOICE! With that
done, step onto the ledge. Walk forward to complete the second Adventure Goal.
Investigate the Bug Zapper - COMPLETED
You might need to regain your composure after that chore of a goal. Your next
task is to knock five enemies into the bug zapper. It's much easier to target
the toxic beetles because for one, they don't fly, and secondly, they stand
right in front of the zapper. One attack will send them to their deathbead.
Knock 5 enemies into the Bug Zapper - COMPLETED
Take out the remaining enemies after the bug zapper falls out of your way.
Climb on top of it (clearly refrain from touching the harmful part) and save
in the vent. Proceed for a cutscene.
Struggs is on a shotgun spree, and you've got to take him out! He isn't
targeting you per se, but the big guy can certainly hurt you. You have to
climb onto one of his legs in order to sting him, so you'll have to avoid
getting accidentally stepped on.
He'll take two or three steps, then stop to scout the room. Use this time to
crawl onto his leg, pressing C whenever the button prompt appears to cling on
as he moves around. It's like Shadow of the Colossus up in here! Continue your
trek up Struggs' leg until you reach his belt; the scorpion will climb in and
sting him there (swing down on the Wii Remote). Yeah, there.
Naturally, Struggs gets hurt and accidentally pisses off his pet gila monster.
Now Struggs himself is getting pretty boiled.
Sting Struggs below the belt - COMPLETED
The madman will begin using his shotgun on YOU now! A red target reticule will
appear on the ground as he cocks his gun. A smaller, black ring appears in the
circle. As soon as it stretches to the perimeter and the edge of the ring
glows bright red, dash; that's when the shot is fired.
He will also try to stomp you if you are in his view, so dash as soon as you
see him raise his leg up. After a few shots, Struggs will stop to reload. Make
a mad dash for his belt again to sting him a second time.
Sting Struggs again - COMPLETED
This part of the "fight" is just like the last, but Struggs becomes more
frantic; he'll move his feet around and fire more shells at a time. Again, go
up his leg as he reloads and slip under his belt for the finishing hit.
Sting Struggs one last time - COMPLETED
Struggs isn't down for the count just yet, but now we have to run! Dash to the
door as Struggs tries to fire at you. If you manage to avoid the first shot,
you'll be fine. After the shot goes off, climb up the door and dash through
the hole to finish the chapter... and the game! Pat yourself on the back: you
just beat Deadly Creatures!

==============================================================================
[5] BESTIARY [0500]
==============================================================================
==============================================================================
ENEMIES [0501]
==============================================================================
.----------------.
--' Soldier Beetle '----------------------------------------------------------
- Soldier beetles are some of the most basic enemies around. They are small,
red bugs that only have one basic attack [50 Points].
.---------------.
--' Scarab Beetle '-----------------------------------------------------------
- These yellow beetles are nearly identical to soldier beetles, however they
tend to block your attacks with their tough exoskeleton [60 Points].
.-------------.
--' Wolf Spider '-------------------------------------------------------------
- Wolf spiders are encountered in nearly (if not all) chapters and are
without a doubt the most common enemies. While they are quick and tend to
jump around a lot, they are fairly weak and can be easily dispatched late
in the game [50 Points].
.---------.
--' Pillbug '-----------------------------------------------------------------
- Pillbugs are totally harmless creatures that will curl up into a tight
ball when threatened. While they cannot hurt you, you can eat them to
replenish your health [20 Points].
.---------------.
--' King Scorpion '-----------------------------------------------------------
- These foes act just like the scorpion you play as during the game. They
have the same set of basic attacks and can also block as well. They can
also use a spinning attack similar to your own [100 Points].
.----------------------.
--' Flame-Knee Tarantula '----------------------------------------------------
- These spiders are bigger than wolf spiders, thus much slower than them as
well. While flame-knee tarantulas may not jump around like the wolf spider,
they are much more powerful and will use their brute strength to manhandle
you [100 Points].
.----------------------.
--' Silverback Tarantula '----------------------------------------------------
- Distinguished by their shiny silver coating, silverback tarantulas are very
similar to flame-knee tarantulas. The main difference is that silverback
tarantulas can shoot webbing to entangle their prey [125 Points].
.-------------.
--' Black Widow '-------------------------------------------------------------
- Despite their small stature, black widows are quite durable. Their attacks
can poison you, which will slowly sap your health over an extended period
of time. These enemies can also spin webs that, if stepped on, will capture
you until you can shake free [125 Points].
.---------------.
--' Crimson Widow '-----------------------------------------------------------
- Crimson widows are basically tougher versions of black widows. They can
inflict venom on you if hit and can also spin webs that stick to the floor.
If you get stuck, shake the Wii Remote and Nunchuck left and right to break
free [175 Points].
.--------------.
--' Toxic Beetle '------------------------------------------------------------
- These bugs can be quite pesky. Toxic beetles can attack from a distance as
they have the ability to shoot powerful toxins from a distance. This is
their only attack, so quickly bypass the projectiles and dispatch them with
one hit [75 Points].
.----------------.
--' Tarantula Hawk '----------------------------------------------------------
- The only airborne enemy in the game, tarantula hawks will buzz through the
air and execute a divebomb attack. The attack cannot be blocked, but
otherwise it is their only form of offense. When they land, initiate the
attack. Despite the name, it's much easier to kill tarantula hawks as the
tarantula since you can jump in the air [150 Points].
.---------------.
--' Bone Scorpion '-----------------------------------------------------------
- Bone scorpions are almost exactly the same as king scorpions. Aside from
being black and white, the only main difference is that these foes are
stronger and have more health [125 Points].
.----------------.
--' Leopard Lizard '----------------------------------------------------------
- As you will soon learn, lizards in this game are extremely agile. They
are almost never seen immobile and will scurry around to avoid attacks and
open windows for attacks of their own. Leopard lizards can bite you, swing
at you with their tail, and ram you from a distance [150 Points].
.----------------.
--' Crimson Lizard '----------------------------------------------------------
- Crimson lizards are stronger and more speedy than leopard lizards, thus
they are much more annoying. Their main battle strategy is to run behind
you, strike, then run back behind you as you turn to face the attacker.
Very annoying [175 Points].
.---------------.
--' Horned Lizard '-----------------------------------------------------------
- This big lug is much slower than the other lizards found in this game.
The horned lizard is more like a spikey tank; refrain from targeting any
part of its body aside from its face to avoid taking damage. Horned lizards
can both bite and charge at you, as well as shoot blood out of their eye to
attack from afar. [200 Points].
.----------------.
--' Praying Mantis '----------------------------------------------------------
- Praying mantis are elegant, yet very tough enemies. They spend most of the
time blocking your attacks while trying to sneak in quick swipes with their
scythe-like arms. While their main attacks can be blocked, their charged,
overhead swing cannot [200 Points].
.------------.
--' Desert Rat '--------------------------------------------------------------
- We've moved up to targeting mammals now! Desert rats are durable, yet quick
lil' buggers as well. They have some of the most health out of all the
creatures in this game and shouldn't be taken very lightly. The desert rats
hop to dodge your own attacks, then retaliate with a quick bite or a tough
ram [200 Points].
.------------.
--' Albino Rat '--------------------------------------------------------------
- As far as I know, albino rats seem to share most qualities with the desert
rat. I suppose like with previous trends among enemies, these enemies are
more powerful and can sustain more damage than the other rats [250 Points].
.-------------.
--' Sand Mantis '-------------------------------------------------------------
- Again, it's pretty much just a palette swap here. Sand mantis have a tan
color and can take more hits than the praying mantis. I believe they also
have a new attack, which involes the bug jumping in the air before slamming
their arms onto the ground [250 Points].
==============================================================================
BOSSES [0502]
==============================================================================
.-------------------.
Success!
.--------------------.
Dodge its
charge attack, then return to the dirt pile and frantically dig until the dirt
disappears. Repeat this with the other three to create a hole in the middle of
the room. The scorpion will crawl through the hole to end the fight.
.-------------------.

[6] GAME REVIEW [0600]
==============================================================================
Call me cocky or self-aggrandizing, but I will admit that not many things in
this world scare me. Clowns tell silly jokes and make cool balloon animals;
what's so frightening about that? I've been shoved in lockers many a time, so
I have no problem with enclosed areas. Heights? Place me on the top of the
empire state building and I won't break a sweat.
However, throw a spider my way and I'll be screaming louder than a teenage
girl at a Jonas Brothers concert. I'm the type of wimp that flees the premises
at the sight of a spider; finding the nearest person to kill the (usually)
harmless thing for me because I'm too afraid to. With this said, why the heck
would a person such as myself purchase a game where you play as a tarantula -
arguably my biggest fear? Upon buying the game, I did not have an answer to
that question. After playing through Deadly Creatures, I managed to find an
answer: because this game is quite fun.
Story
It's hard to feature an enthralling story (or one at all) when the two main
characters are arachnids. That's where Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper
come in. Arguably the two most important characters in Deadly Creatures are
not only unplayable, but are also rarely seen. Hopper and Thornton voice two
men named George and Wade respectively. Thornton first proclaims at the start
of the game that the deadliest creature in the desert is man. That comment
sounds pretty outlandish once you play the game and experience what the
scorpion and tarantula what can do on their own, you understand just how
dangerous man can be.
As you progress through the levels as one of the two arachnids, you will come
across the duo as they scrounge through the desert in search for ancient gold
coins. You will be able to eavesdrop on the two as you learn more about them
and learn of their intentions. It's interesting how the game's plot is told
indirectly through the eyes of non-playable characters.
The main drag is that the it seems to be split into far too many pieces in
which is becomes difficult to smush them together to form a coherent story.
Plus, trying to listen to a conversation at the surface while you are
underground can be annoying. It is not uncommon to be three-quarters through
the game and still have virtually no idea what's going on. The story itself is
good and while the method of presenting it is unique, it could still be
tweaked a bit.
Graphics
Many people like to generalize. "The Wii only serves casual gamers with its
gameplay and innovation". When you think of artistic masterpieces in video
games, you normally think of next-gen video games on the Playstation 3 or Xbox
360. Never the Wii. Deadly Creatures is an interesting subject as it finally
breaks the stereotypical mold.
The graphics are stunning for a Wii game. While there isn't a wide range of
scenery, the game does a great job mapping out a dry, often barren desert.
Some of the environments are simply stunning, ranging from spider dens to a
fascinating realm deserving of the name "Octopus Canyon": a wide open land
fully covered with twisting, coiling brambles resembling long tentacles.
As a creature of tiny proportions, you'll often find yourself crawling through
caves and even underground. While travelling under the surface as a scorpion
or spider isn't too out of the norm, these areas are so incredibly dark that
there are times where you will have to raise the brightness of your TV due to
moving in pure blackness. In a later level, you explore an area entitled
the "Wasteland Tunnels". While the scenery looks interesting from promotional
images and concept art, the sheer amount of shadows creeping from every corner
makes it nearly impossible to appreciate the art style and form, let alone
explore the level to the fullest extent.
The two protagonists themselves are displayed in a different art style. The
creatures almost seem cel-shaded, like they were hand painted. It's absolutely
beautiful to stare at the character models. But when they move... it's a whole
different story. The game developers did an incredible job studying the
animals featured in Deadly Creatures in order to accurately portray the
movements and actions. You can certainly tell how much time was put into the
graphics, and it certainly paid off.
From a high point to a low point. While the visuals themselves are wonderful,
there are many other technicalities that mar the overall product. These
glitches and bugs (no, not the creepy crawlies) aren't the ones that can be a
tad irritating; instead act more like roadblocks. There are the "little"
things, like enemies and even playable characters getting stuck inside walls
or objects. Sometimes the camera may get stuck on an object and leave you
frustrated. The load times are unfairly long sometimes and overall the game
tends to lag from time to time. Hey, I'm not a fan, but I can survive with
these errors.
Then there are the big ones. The hit detection needs a lot of work, as I have
had countless attacks pass right through an enemy. I don't mean that it zoomed
through their tail or the tip of their head. I'm talking about times where I
would attack and go DIRECTLY through the foe. I have had numerous instances of
the game freezing, which needless to say is never joyful. Twice in the game I
have reached an area where you would have to defeat a number of enemies in
order to progress. However... there are no enemies around.
One of the worst is the fact that a glitch enabled me to access an area that I
was not supposed to reach. As I inadvertently began backtracking, I reached a
point that left my adventure literally unplayable, as I was forced to reset
the game. The sheer amount of glitches I have encountered in Deadly Creatures
is simply staggering. Bugs like these make me believe that the developers
should have spent a few weeks or so patching up the numerous, numerous
technicalities.
EDIT: I am playing the game right now and I have experienced another pain of a
glitch. As I went to use one of my neat abilities to web jump onto a spider
web, I apparently went through my target and began falling into a seemingly
endless pit composed of nothing but orange and black lines. As I kept falling
on and on, I realized my fate and ultimately had to quit the game. While life
may be a "box of chocolates", so is Deadly Creatures: you never know what new,
incredibly obnoxious glitch you're going to get.
Controls
As much as I'd like to praise Deadly Creatures on and on, I have to point out
the major flaws. As you could probably tell from the previous statement and
the category in which it lies, one of those flaws is the game's controls. I
have to admit that the game got one huge issue right in the fact that is your
main method of attacking is by pressing A as opposed to shaking the Wii
Remote. One thing that irked me about Super Mario Galaxy was that your primary
attack was performed by a wag of the Wii Remote.
While you can press A to attack enemies as either the tarantula or scorpion,
that alone won't do you much good in a world filled with venomous bugs or
deadly lizards. As the game progresses and you kick butt, you will be able to
learn new moves and combos. As one would have guessed, these combos aren't
pulled off by stringing a complex chain of button combinations together.
Instead, you have to, yep, use the motion sensor capability of the Wii Remote.
I wouldn't really mind the idea of using the Wii Remote's motion sensor, but
it never seems to work just right. My experiences playing the game shares
similar concepts and themes to the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
While this seems odd, you may find that you've experienced such incidents
yourself. Sometimes when trying to pull off a combo, I'll shake and swing the
Wii Remote over and over. Nothing, no combo performed. Too insensitive.
Sometimes I'll pick up the Wii Remote from the table and the tarantula will
pull off some intricate move. Too sensitive. Unfortunately for myself, I can
never seem to share the same joy as Goldilocks by finding a control scheme
that's just right.
I cannot really tell if I'm complaining about the controls for Deadly
Creatures or the Wii's motion sensor capabilities themselves. Regardless, the
game still holds a heavy implementation of this system. Whether it's stringing
together attacks or combing an area in a first-person view, the controls can
be a bit of a hindrance if you are in a heated battle or simply trying to get
from one place to another.
Dare I say the controls... bug me? I'm here all night folks.
Sound
This is one of the tougher categories to put my opinion on. First off, lets
talk about the sound effects. All of the sound effects, to put it simply, are
great. The developers did a marvelous job capturing lifelike sound effects of
the various animals in the game. The spiders and scorpions sound like the ones
scurrying around outside as I type this up.
The growls and roars that the enemy creatures make don't sound like how we
hear them. For example, a lizard's roar resembling a t-rex isn't so far-
fetched; when you think about it, that's probably what it sounds like coming
from a critter half the size of it. Of course the sound that lizards make
sound like high-pitched squeaks: we're much bigger than them! Sometimes it
makes it seem that you are fighting monstrous freaks instead of a lowly rat or
something along the likes, for the game makes you really feel like something
the size of say, a Wii Nunchuk.
The game likes to, for a lack of a better term, boast about the inclusion of
famed actors Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper. I don't necessarily mind,
as I'm a fan of both and and it's hard to say that they did not put 100% into
their job as a voice actor. Both the humans, Struggs and Wade, sound great as
you encounter them and their wild goose chase. Sometimes it's just difficult
to hear the humans when you're ten feet-deep underground.
As much as I'd like to talk about the music... there really isn't much to talk
about, sadly. Flat out, there isn't much music in the game at all. I don't
mean that it does not stand out, but there just basically is very little music
featured in the chapters of Deadly Creatures. The main background music is a
dull, monotonous blur that fades into obscurity as the sounds of your attacks
overlap it.
When you encounter an enemy, a sharp tune is played to symbolize the foe's
appearance. Admittedly, the music picks up exponentially when you are fighting
toe-to-toe with bugs and other small creatures. It may just be me, but some of
the riffs and tunes sound oddly similar to Fable's music. That's not a bad
thing. While the new music is powerful and enticing, it's still fairly low and
quiet. Plus, despite fighting opponents many a time through each level, the
tunes aren't good enough at capturing ones attention, and after the fight you
go back to bland ambiance as the background music quietly churns up.
Like the desert in which Deadly Creatures takes place, the music is simply
empty. I would much rather put on my headphones or turn the music player on my
computer.
Gameplay
Of course, the meat 'n gravy of the review. This is what most of the readers
were probably directed to. I have to admit that it's hard to put my finger on
the gameplay of Deadly Creatures. There are some pros and cons, like in every
video game.
As one could have easily figured out by now, you play as a spider and a
tarantula. There are ten chapters in the game as you alternate between the two
critters in each chapter. The landscapes in each level range from a desert to
an underground cave in the desert to a gas station... in the desert -- okay
yes, the entire game takes place in a large desert. While the main focus of
journeying through a realm as a tiny arachnid is spot on, a little change of
scenery would be nice. You're either in a dark corner inside some cave or the
barren wasteland; it would have been nice to see something a little more lush
than the same dry environment.
I don't mind at all that much, because I love the scaling of the game. While
it is true that you're in the same location the entire game, your little
creepy crawler is roaming through simple and everyday objects and you may not
even know it. It can be hard to tell if you are strafing around stalagmites in
a damp cave or travelling through a spring-filled mattress. Seeking refuge
behind a pizza box or a radio is always neat, since the game gives you
something you normally would never experience in many video games.
Sometimes it is difficult to realize that you are occasionally travelling
through the same area as both the tarantula and the scorpion. The game is
played through both of their point of views, as the two rarely cross paths.
You get to view an area and the story as one character, only to get a
completely different view as the second character. It's interesting how the
story pieces itself together through the eyes of the two protagonists as you
get to see the cause and effects of certain detrimental scenes.
While you may be in the same area, the levels are completely different from
each other as the tarantula and scorpion both have unique abilities that allow
them to progress in different ways and styles. The tarantula is the more agile
of the two; capable of hopping around like a jumping bean and pulling off
quick strikes. In fact, the tarantula is the only character that can actually
jump, and that factor paired with the ability to sling through the air from
web to web adds a sense of platforming to the game. The levels seem to be more
widespread because the tarantula seems to cover ground much easier.
The scorpion is the tarantula's foil: a complete powerhouse that has trouble
moving at a quick pace. It cannot climb on ceilings like the tarantula nor can
it jump, but you can block enemy attacks with the scorpion. While the scorpion
attacks and moves at a sluggish pace, it is also much stronger than the spider
and usually has an easier time defeating enemies. Naturally, the scorpion
cannot fly through the air, so it has to resort to brute strength. The
scorpion stays on the ground as the tarantula takes to the skies; burrowing in
shallow holes and cracked walls and chopping down tough weeds. Since the two
characters have totally contrasting styles and how their appearance alternates
between chapters, the game does a wonderful job keeping things from being too
repetitive.
To add onto the last point, there are plenty of "items" strewn throughout the
ten chapters. While not conventional items per se, you can find white, gooey
grubs in the levels (ranging from 30-100+). There is a whopping total of 450
grubs in Deadly Creatures, and while they only unlock art galleries, searching
high and low to find each and every one of 'em can be a nice change of pace
from the fighting. You can also encounter rare leaf crickets that offer a much
more useful reward. Finding a certain amount of these green critters will
increase your character's maximum health, making it detrimental to find these
lil' buggers to help ease the pain of the rest of the game.
One interesting aspect about Deadly Creatures is the implementation of a point
system. You can earn points by defeating foes or by completing tasks known
as "Adventure Goals". Netting enough points can increase your stats (such as
attack power or health) and can also unlock new moves. While it is a neat
idea, you can never bypass an opportunity to earn points, thus nullifying the
possibility of not earning enough points to learn a new move or ability. Since
you mainly earn points by slaying creatures and you usually cannot pass
through areas until you kill all opponents, you can never miss out on learning
new moves. All in all, a neat idea, but it is pretty pointless.
Aside from the moves previously discussed that allow you to progress through
the levels, the scorpion and tarantula also learn abilities to help them in
combat. They're nothing overly complex like in a fighting game, but some of
the moves rely on the flimsy and at times-broken motion sensor capabilities.
Ignoring the previous sentence, fighting in Deadly Creatures is surprisingly
obnoxious. The basic combos and chains are easy to pull off, but the main
point is that all of your attacks (both tarantula and scorpion) take so much
time to pull off. You'll attack, pause for nearly one second, then follow up
with the second hit. This becomes even more evident with the already-slow
scorpion. The moves aren't fluent and the combos aren't stringed together
nicely as it becomes far too common for a foe to interrupt you during a combo.
In fact, all of the attacks from both characters take far too much time.
Deadly Creatures is a difficult game for all the wrong reasons; it's just
cheap as hell. The motion sensor controls are quite flimsy, making attacking
and using other abilities a chore. Combat is increasingly difficult; it isn't
so hard taking down beetles and spiders with the broken-down combat system,
but when you have to face a trio of rats head on, say your prayers. Another
problem is the number of save points in each chapter. The save points are
either featured too frequently or way too spaced apart. You may encounter two
save points in the span of three minutes; eh, better to be safe than sorry,
right? But when you get to a point in the game where the save points are
spaced so far apart that reverting incredibly far back in a level as a result
of the previously mentioned combat faults can be gutwrenching at times.
I am a huge fan of the overall concept of the game and how it is presented at
times, but there are far too many minor problems that eventually snowball into
one huge pile of anger and crushed expectations.
Replay Value
Whether you loved it or loathed it, Deadly Creatures comes to an end in a
flash. Completing the game with little to no intentions of perfection can
range from 5-7 hours. Trying to find the grueling number of collectibles can
tack on a few more hours, but ultimately the adventure closes out too soon.
Again, finding all 450 grubs only unlocks art galleries, which can kill 10
minutes or so. I will admit that some of the box art ideas look pretty cool.
If you are desperate, you can watch videos of Thornton and Hopper pretending
to know what's going on in the video game world. Additionally, there are three
difficulty settings in all if you're willing you go through the game again at
a harder pace. Overall, Deadly Creatures will most likely turn out to be a
one-and-done game for most.
Overall (not an average): 7/10
Pros
+ Fairly enticing story
+ The way the story is told is more interesting than the story itself
+ Playing as two characters is fresh
+ Great visuals and sharp graphics
+ The environment design is unique and fun to play through
+ Point system and collectibles help more than hurt
+ Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper!
Cons
- The main characters in a game filled to the brim with creepy crawlers are a
scorpion and a tarantula
- While the sound effects are wondrous, the music is practically nonexistent
- Camera is impossible to tame
- Combat is dull and overly frustrating
- From the lack of save points to lame combat system, the game can be cheap
- The game is too dark, literally! I shouldn't have to turn the brightness up
on my television when playing a video game
- Little to no replay value unless you're a die-hard perfectionist
- Far, far, FAR too many glitches and technicalities
I had originally rated the game an 8, but as I progressed through the game,
the number of problems became more and more apparent. Of course, the title
isn't all bad. The story is probably the main attraction, including the story
itself and the interesting way how it is presented. Playing as two frightening
arachnids is fun as both have their ups and downs. Aside from some of their
sweet skills, roaming around large landscapes as such a small creature is
overwhelming in a good way.
However, there are the foul points. You cannot really gloat about reeling in
big-name voice actors when you failed to fix the essentials. While Deadly
Creatures could have shined brighter than ever, the crew failed to polish this
piece of work, ultimately leaving it as grimy as the the landscapes and
environments in the game themselves. While it seems that the pros outnumber
the cons, the cons are so incredibly large that they can easily suffocate
everything enjoyable in Deadly Creatures. It's in no way a perfect game - not
even close - but that doesn't mean it is not fun. If you have the will power
to turn the cheek on these technicalities, then you will certainly have a fun
time with Deadly Creatures.
