INTRODUCTION:
Hello all. This FAQ covers the power-up evolution-tree for the game Super
Real Darwin for the Arcade. It is a vertical-scrolling shooting game and
the sequel/prequel to Darwin 4078.
I am not going to bother with the copyright stuff. If you are low enough
to try to bank a profit off of this, or you decide to plagiarize it, that's
your wretched morality.

STORY
Again, I have absolutely no idea.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONTROLS
Button 1: Fire regular shots (hits aerial targets)
Button 2: Fire ground shots (hits ground targets)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
EVOLUTION TREE
Your "ship" (or creature) powers up by going through various forms as you
gain power-ups. Each form has different firepower that is effective in
different situations.
*You start in "Hodoyodo" form.
Pister is the lowest form you can get. If you are in any form above Pister
and get hit by enemy fire, you will de-evolve all the way into Pister. I
say "de-evolve all the way" because you will watch your ship change into
every form all the way down into Pister.
All forms except Pister (and perhaps Hodoyodo) have a time limit to them.
When the time limit is about to be reached, you will hear a series of tones.
Once the time limit has expired, you will de-evolve into one form below the
one you were at, with some exceptions (see Note).
Note: Pispider de-evolves into Pister. This is immediate. There is no
changing into various forms like with the other forms.
In addition, I don't believe Hodoyodo has the de-evolution time limit.

Pispider is a special form. I believe it involves the clone/egg fighter you
gain after defeating level bosses. I don't know how to get this form,
however. The egg fighter disappears (I suppose it merges with you) suddenly
and POW! you are Pispider--with Black Deame's invulnerability to enemy fire.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
EGG/CLONE FIGHTER
After each level, you gain an "egg." (be sure you pick it up!!) This is
basically a clone fighter to assist you. You power it up the same way you
power up yourself--getting powerups. You have to make the egg come in
contact with a powerup in order for the egg to get it.
After the first powerup, the egg becomes Pister. It will level up using the
same evolution tree you do.
The best thing about the egg fighter is that it is invulnerable and it fires
sideways. So whatever form it has, it will fire those shots to the left and
right.
Because it is invulnerable, the egg can only de-evolve when you do. So if
you get hit, the egg fighter will de-evolve with you (or die with you if you
die).
Once you die, the egg fighter is gone, permanently.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
DNA STRANDS
When you kill certain ground enemies, a circle with the word "DNA" will
appear. If you pick this up, a small red icon appears at the lower-left
of the screen. As you continue to pick up DNA, more icons appear.
When you die, you lose all your DNA strands, but upon reappearing, your
fighter will evolve into a form based on the number of strands you had
before death. Then you will continue the stage at whatever checkpoint the
game has placed.
Example: you evolved to Quill form, collected six strands, then died. When
you reappear at the checkpoint, you will watch your fighter evolve
into Sweep (which is six forms away from Hodoyodo), then you will
continue in the stage.
Example 2: you evolved to Zwipi, collected 10 strands, then died. When you
reappear at the checkpoint, you will evolve into Gyasalba (which is
10 forms away from Hodoyodo), then you will continue in the stage.

FORM DESCRIPTIONS AND EVALUATIONS
This section will give some comments for each form.
* * * * * EVOLUTION TREE 1 * * * * *
==========================================================================
PISTER:
======
The lowest and weakest form you have. Evolve from this quickly!!
_
Firepower: |_|
Pros:
----
-grasping for straws here. The only good thing about Pister is that it is
really small, making it a much less likely target.
Cons:
----
-everything
***************************************************************************
HODOYODO:
========
Your starting form. Basically just a larger Pister. Evolve quickly!!
Firepower: | |
Pros:
----
-grasping for straws again. Um, well, it fires two shots at once instead of
one ^_^;
Cons:
----
-everything
***************************************************************************
ZWIPI:
=====
"Hodoyodo" with above-average firepower.
Firepower: Ugh! I can't draw this in a text program. This looks like the
Atari symbol. It goes out, then flattens into a line, then goes
onward upside down.
Pros:
----
-good rapid fire.
-shots travel a ways, then "flip" before going on. This actually gives you
a better chance of hitting foes as your shots stay on screen longer. It
also lets you pack the shots together, thus really pelting a foe once the
shots get moving
Cons:
----
-no good frontal spread fire
***************************************************************************
DARTER:
======
"Hodoyodo" with spreading laser fire. The first really good form for you.
Firepower: | ||
||| ----> || It starts as the dart, then becomes a laser
||||| ||
Pros:
----
-stronger firepower
-good spread range
Cons:
----
-Shot spacing can let enemies get to you.
***************************************************************************
SYULBA:
=======
"Hodoyodo" that fires metal pipes. Good for packing in damage.
Firepower: | | | |
| | | |
\ / \ /
| |
| |
Pros:
----
-excellently fast firepower.
-good strength of firepower.
Cons:
----
-No spread range.
***************************************************************************
QUILL:
======
"Hodoyodo" with richocheting shots. The shots sort of bounce within their
own invisible "column" as they travel up the screen.
Firepower: ---/
/
/
/---
Pros:
----
-good rapid fire
-good strength of firepower, despite the frail appearance.
Cons:
----
-No good spread range
***************************************************************************
LBOCK:
=====
First of the larger forms. Now is the time to start being careful as you
are able to get hit easier with your increased size. This form fires
diamond-shaped shots.
Firepower: / \ / \
\ / \ /
Pros:
----
-Strong firepower
-good rapid fire
Cons:
----
-No spread range
***************************************************************************
SWEEP:
=====
Upgraded LBock. Awesome spread fire. Fires mid-sized bouncing diamond
shots along with angled laser blasts. An excellent form.
Firepower: / \ //
\ / //
\\ / \
\\ \ /
Pros:
----
-has the best balance of spread fire and strong firepower
Cons:
----
-none
***************************************************************************
DLIME:
====
Larger LBock. Great strength of firepower
Firepower: / \
| |
\ /
|
|
Pros:
----
-incredibly strong firepower
-good rapid fire
Cons:
----
-No spread range
-really large target. Can get hit easily if not careful
***************************************************************************
ARIDEAME:
=======
Your next form that adds size. Be very careful now. Your firepower is
awesome though.
Firepower: |----------|
| _\ /\ /_ |
|| \/ ||
|----------|
Pros:
----
-stupendous firepower! Large shots that are the width of your fighter, and
split towards both sides of the screen if they hit an enemy.
-Technically the best spread fire of the forms (if you hit a lot of foes
and have all those extra shots flowing toward the screen sides).
Cons:
----
-really large target. Can get hit easier.
***************************************************************************
SLUGBU:
======
Upgraded Arideame. Strong firepower.
Firepower: ---- ----
/ \ / \
| | | |
| | | |
\ / \ /
\/ \/
Pros:
----
-Extremely strong fire-power (again, pun intended)
-good rapid fire
Cons:
----
-Not much spread range
-large target. Can get hit easy.
***************************************************************************
GYASYALBA:
=========
Final form. Very large and very powerful.
Firepower: || || ||
|| || ||
|| || ||
|| || ||
Pros:
----
-same as Slugbu
Cons:
----
-same as Slugbu
* * * * * EVOLUTION TREE 2 * * * * *
==========================================================================
I have no certain idea how to get to this evolutionary tree. Change
the power-up from the white/red ships three times, then get the power-up to
reach this tree. If the power-up starts out black, change by (b = black, w =
white) : b-w-b-w-b-w. Now get the power-up. If it starts out white, change
by: w-b-w-b-w-b. Now get the power-up. You will be in this tree now. See
the Tips, Tricks, and Secrets section for info on the white/red ships.
TWO DIVI:
========
A compact fighter. Size about the same as Syulba, with firepower strength
about the same.
Firepower: -- --
/ \ / \
\ / \ /
\/ \/
Pros:
----
-small target, less likely to be hit.
-firepower has reasonable strength
Cons:
----
-no spread range
***************************************************************************
TC DIVI:
=======
Larger form. Fires four shots. Slightly stronger than Two Divi
Firepower: -- -- -- --
/ \ / \ / \ / \
\ / \ / \ / \ /
\/ \/ \/ \/
Pros:
----
-slightly more spread than previous form
Cons:
----
-larger target, more likely to be hit.
***************************************************************************
FOUR DIVI:
=========
Even larger form: Be careful here. Great spread fire, though.
Firepower: TC Divi's shots spread out in cone form
Pros:
----
-great spread fire
Cons:
----
-no good rapid fire
-shot spacing can let some enemies get to you
***************************************************************************
FC DIVI:
=======
Boringly "square" form, but has the best spread fire of any form presently
seen.
Firepower: Four Divi's shots, but basically in seven directions, including
the rear.
Pros:
----
-best spread fire of all presently known forms.
Cons:
----
-rapid fire not too good; seems better than Four Divi's though.
* * * * * EVOLUTION TREE 3 * * * * *
==========================================================================
I suspect this may not even be a tree, but I'll put it as one until further
data reveals it is not so. I believe possession of the egg fighter has
something to do with reaching this tree.
DARTER-2:
DARTER-3:
DARTER-4:
========
All of these fighters use Darter's firepower. As far as I have seen, the
only difference is the number of bombs they drop. Darter-4 drops four bombs
at once. Cosmetically, the front of the fighter changes as you gain
power-ups.
* * * * * * SPECIAL * * * * * *
============================================================================
PISPIDER:
========
SRD's version of Black Deame (Darwin 4078). It is impervious to enemy fire.
Its firepower is quite odd. It can fire, at most, four white balls, which
go forward a distance and remain in place for a good five or more seconds.
Then the balls fall to the bottom of the screen. What's the deal with this?
The balls damage any enemy that comes in contact with them. Very minor
enemies die instantly, larger ones flash as they are continuously damaged.
Even while the balls fall down the screen, they can damage/destroy enemies.
The only way to die in this form is to collide with an enemy.
Firepower: A solid white ball
Pros:
----
-invincibility to enemy fire
-smaller target, less likely to get hit
Cons:
----
-horrible wait time for firing. You must wait until the present shots you
have fired fall off the screen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
TIPS, TRICKS, AND SECRETS
Arideame has the best firepower to change the power-ups to reach Evolution
Tree 2. Don't fire sporatically. Get it where you can release four shots
in a stream. Each stream will change the power-up. Three streams and you
are ready to get the power-up and get to Evolution Tree 2.
The white/red ships mentioned for Evolution Tree 2 resemble the black ships
with the purple ball from Darwin 4078. They are rectangular ships with
wings and have a red ball in them. When you kill them, they release
power-ups like some other enemies. The difference is that if you shoot the
power-ups released by the white/red ships, the power-up changes to a
different color (white<-->black).
When you are de-evolving because of an enemy hit, you are invulnerable to
further attacks until you become Pister. You can use this opportunity to
ram enemies and kill them (you can not fire while de-evolving).
