1.0     Introduction

================================================================================

Hello out there! Thunderfist here, with my third FAQ ever! I assume that most
of you who are reading this are avid Terminator fans, and I am as well!
For that reason, I was really shocked to see that no one had done a FAQ
on this game yet. Sure, Terminator 2 is probably the more popular movie,
but the original isn't far behind at all, and in my opinion, this game is better
than the T2 game for SNES! (For that matter, I also believe T2 for NES
outdoes T2 for SNES, but I digress.) I am proud to have this opportunity to
write a FAQ for a video game based off of one of my all-time favorite
movies!

================================================================================

================================================================================

The contents of this document are based on a video game produced by Mindscape,
which in turn is based on a movie produced by Cinema '84. Ihave no ownership

1.2     Revision History

================================================================================

Version 1.00 was completed on Oct. 22, 2005. On January 27, 2006, a correction
was made to the strategy involving the earthbombers, and was also reflected
in the grenade strategy section where the earthbombers are mentioned.

================================================================================

1.3     History and overview

================================================================================

In 1984, Cinema '84 produced a movie that would gain tremendous recognition for
its fantastic story, use of special effects, and tremendous casting of Arnold
Schwarzenegger as an unstoppable killing machine from the future! This movie,
of course, catapulted Schwarzenegger into superstardom, although it was
not his first movie. The Terminator, however, was the first movie to make more
use of Arnold's acting ability than of his incredible physique, as all of his
prior movies had done. Before I go further with the FAQ, I would like to share
some trivia that some of you may not have been aware of.

First of all, Kyle Reese was the part Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally
cast to play. The Terminator was originally to be a bland, faceless creature
who could blend into any crowd, and was originally going to be played by
football great, O.J. Simpson. Say what you will about O.J., but at the time,
he was thought by most everyone to be a very nice guy, and James
Cameron determined that no one would believe someone like O.J. playing
a ruthless killer like the Terminator. When James Cameron met with Arnold
Schwarzenegger to speak with him about playing Kyle Reese, he was
blown away by Schwarzenegger's unbelievable physique (as would anybody
have been!), and he realized that he was looking at the man who should
play the Terminator. Arnold was reluctant at first, but when he read the script,
Arnold realized that this was indeed the part he wanted to play. Cameron
told Arnold that he could get tremendous recognition from playing this role,
and he was right - Arnold Schwarzenegger, now governor of California,
has been considered one of Hollywood's biggest stars ever since!
Now then, on with the FAQ!

================================================================================

1.4     Story

================================================================================

The year is 2029. For more than 30 years, a supercomputer called
SKYNET had been bent on eliminating the human race. After a nuclear
holocaust that took the lives of 3 billion people, SKYNET had almost
succeeded. However, the humans had John Connor, an excellent
military tactician, leading them in the war against the machines. SKYNET
had finally created an infiltration unit, Cyberdyne Systems 800 series,
model 101, to blend in with the humans, and when they earned their
trust, kill them. Even so, through the use of dogs and brilliant
leadership of John Connor, the humans continued to beat the
overwhelmingly more powerful machines.

In a desperation move, SKYNET made one last ditch effort to
destroy its enemies: it has sent a T-800 terminator, which I will
describe in greater detail below, to the year 1984, to terminate
Sarah Connor, John's mother, before John was born. With the
inferior weaponry of the 1980s, there is no way she could
possibly defend herself against such a juggernaut! And
without John Connor's leadership, mankind couldn't possibly
survive against the forces of SKYNET! Even so,
humanity cannot sit back and let its only hope die. Therefore,
John Connor appoints one of his own men, Kyle Reese, to follow
the Terminator to 1984 and protect Sarah.

================================================================================

1.5     Characters

================================================================================

KYLE REESE

The hero of the story. Kyle grew up during the war and was originally
under the leadership of Capt. Justin Perry, then later transferred to
Connor's unit. Unbeknownst to Reese, but knownst to Connor, Kyle
will be John's father as he protects Sarah from the Terminator.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SARAH CONNOR

Your average 18-year-old working woman, Sarah lives in Los
Angeles with her roommate, Ginger. Sarah has no idea that she
is about to become hunted by an unstoppable killing machine.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

T-800 ENDOSKELETON

Seen in the future, on the way to the time displacement chamber,
these titanium alloy nuisances are what the model 101 Terminator
looks like underneath. Luckily, the advanced weaponry of the
future makes them easy enough to deal with.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

T-800 INFILTRATION UNIT

You will know these when you see them in the future. This is
the machine sent back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor. They are
slightly tougher than the endoskeletons, but unlike the
endoskeletons, they never move, so if you observe their
shooting pattern and act accordingly, they are quite easy to
take out. If only the one in 1984 was so easy...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SATTELITE UNIT

Seen floating above the ground in the future, some fire at you
and some drop inchworm-like machines. They can be
destroyed with a few hits, but it is best to run under them and
let them go off the screen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EARTHBOMBERS

Sorry, but this is the whittiest name I could come up with for the inchworm
machines I mentioned above. These things are like suicide bombers -
they crawl towards you like inchworms and explode when they touch you.
The best thing to do is to jump over them and run, though if they present
too great a problem, they can be destroyed with a grenade, or by
shooting them before they reach the ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HKs (HUNTER KILLERS)

These mechanical terrors have been SKYNET's original line of
offense against the human resistance. They come in two varieties -
aerial HKs, and ground HKs. Both are incredibly tough, but
fortunately, John Connor figured out and taught his soldiers how
to take them down, which necessitated the infiltration units. Even
though they are not too bright (in Kyle Reese's words), thank your
lucky stars that you will only see one of each in this game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STREET THUGS

Found in stages 2 and 4, there are several varieties - some
have long hair, so are bald, some use guns, some throw knives,
and some even use moltov cocktails (bottle grenades). Luckily,
a battle hardened soldier like Reese, who has fought killing
machines all his life, should have no trouble with these lowlives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HELICOPTER

You will find several of these in stage 2. These are standard
helicopters that can fire in 2 directions at once and will also fly
into you. These would be quite easy if you were able to move
while fighting them, but for some reason, you cannot move
while fighting these terrors.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AH-1G COBRA

The booklet calls this an attack helicopter, but the booklet
does not specify exactly what this helicopter is. A friend of
mine believes it is the Cobra, and he knows his military
craft, so I will call it the Cobra until someone can help me to
determine just what it is. This chopper looks very cool and fires
2 missles at once, but you can move while fighting it so it is easy
if your health is full. This is the boss of stage 2.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

POLICE OFFICERS

Found in stage 4, these guys are not evil, but since they consider
Reese a nutcase, and thus a menace to society, they will attack
you. Fortunately, they don't move, and only their bullets can harm
you, so if you jump the bullets and move onto the cops, you will
take no damage. Just don't fire at them, or you will waste your
ammo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE TERMINATOR

This is the mother of all threats to mankind - the most intimidating
villain since Darth Vader! Model 101 of the 800 series, this menace
is a cybernetic organism - titanium alloy endoskeleton underneath,
but covered with living tissue on the outside, so they appear
human. They even sweat and bleed like humans! Had you fought
this thing in the future, your problems would be over, but in 1984,
your chances are much slimmer, due to the availability of
only shell and bullet based guns. Good luck trying to destroy it -
you'll need it!

================================================================================

1.6     Controls

================================================================================

Control pad: Self-explanatory. This moves Kyle Reese left or right, makes him
crouch to avoid gunfire, or makes him point his weapon upward (in side
scrolling stages). In the chase sequences, you will just use left and right to
steer the car or truck, and when manning the cannon on the truck in stage 1,
left and right adjusts your aim.

B button: Jump in side scrolling stages, hit the breaks in chase sequences

A button: Throw grenades in stages 1 and 2, punch in stage 4, and swing pipe
and detonate pipe bomb in stage 6. In chase sequences, you will fire behind
you to the right.

Start: Start the game or pause a game in progress.

Select: Not used.

X Button: Fire rockets in stage 1, open doors in stage 4, and accellerate in
chase sequences. Not used in stages 2 and 6.

Y button: Fire in stages 1, 2, and 4, and fire behind you to the left in chase
sequences. Not used in stage 6.

L and R buttons: Not used.

================================================================================

1.7     Weapons and Power-ups

================================================================================

PR40

Kyle uses this weapon in stage 1. This is a plasma rifle in the 40
watt range - obviously a very potent weapon, as the Terminator
asked for it in the gun shop he later robbed. In the future, this
weapon will destroy T-800 units very quickly, but unfortunately,
you have to leave it behind when going to the past.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RAPID FIRE

This speaks for itself. Your gun gains the ability to go full auto,
and it can be found in the stages 1 and 2, in the form of a red
square with the letter R inside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRENADES

We all know how these work - press A to hurl a grenade in
stages 1 and 2 (standard grenade, I assume, in stage 1,
moltov cocktail in stage 2). In stage 1, these are the only
weapon that can hit the earthbombers once they reach the
ground, and in stage 2, they are useful in taking out thugs
on lower surfaces from where you are standing, which is a
good way of eliminating threats before you encounter them.
These come in the form of, once again, a red square, this
time with the letter G inside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROCKETS

Found only in stage 1, these are a very powerful weapon, and
are helpful in battle with the ground HK. Press X to fire them
straight forward. They come in the form of a red square with the
letter S inside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

M16A2

Although I do not recall Reese using a full automatic machine
gun in the movie (he actually used a police issue shotgun at
first), if he did, this is what it would most likely be. Adopted by
the marines in 1983, this is arguably the best automatic weapon
available in 1984. Highly effective against street thugs, and even
helicopters, but it can't seem to stop the Terminator. In stages 2,
3, and 5, you have unlimited ammo, but in stage 4, your ammo is
limited, so try to conserve your ammo if you can in stage 4.
Extra ammo in stage 4 is characterized by a red square with the
letter A inside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BULLETPROOF VEST

Was there ever a more welcome sight in a game with so much
shooting action? This is one of the best power-ups in the game,
capable of protecting you from about 10 bullets and knives!
However, it does not protect against moltov cocktails or
damage by touching thugs. Characterized by a red square
with the letter V inside, this comes in very handy in stage 4.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BRASS KNUCKLES

These are also a very welcome sight! In stage 4, you are forced
to punch any thugs you find if you have no ammo in your gun.
Finding the brass knuckles will double your punching power,
which really helps when you're trying to conserve your ammo!
Look for a red square with the letter B inside.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST AID KIT

This power-up instantly refills all of your lost energy, which
automatically makes it a given that these are invaluable to your
battle! You can find them in stages 1, 2, and 4. You'll know them
by a white square with a red cross within a larger red square,
similar to the other power-ups. It is best to try to avoid getting
them until your energy is low, if you can safely leave them
behind and come back for them later. If not, by all means
get them when you can.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1UP

Found in stages 1, 2, and 4, these give you one extra life
for each one you find. Grab all of these that you can!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEEL PIPE

Not much of a weapon, but it's better than nothing. In stage
6, Kyle is left without firearms, so he must use this to fend
off the Terminator's advance until Sarah can make a pipe
bomb.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PIPE BOMB

Kyle learned to make these as a boy. They are very potent
explosives, but unfortunately, you will only have access to
it in stage 6. Kyle taught Sarah how to make them, and it is
from her that you will get the bomb that will cripple the
Terminator.

================================================================================

2.0     Stages

================================================================================

The Terminator consists of 6 stages. See the outline at the top for
the order of the stages. Dying in any stage, except the first, sends
you back to the beginning of the stage. In stage 1, you restart at
the beginning of the area you died in (there are 3 areas).
Included here is a walkthrough, with the general layout of enemies
you will face in each area, along with general tips on how to
handle each.

================================================================================

2.1     Stage 1: The War Against The Machines

================================================================================

This introductory stage is one of the more straightforward stages. We
have yet to see much of what the war is like in the movies, but this stage
will give you a taste of it. As you go forward, you will meet 2
endoskeletons with an item box between them. This is the only stage
that has items hidden in boxes, though not all items in these stage are
inside boxes. As a rule of thumb, you can often run while firing and
destroy endoskeletons in 2 shots, but sometimes you'll just blow the
legs off of the endoskeletons with the first shot, leaving them crawling
towards you. If you leave them alone for a few seconds, they will
explode, but even better is to crouch and fire. That way, if it does lose
its legs and crawl towards you, your projectiles will hit the upper body
right away, doing away with it completely.

However you choose to deal with them, take the grenades in the box
and be careful when you reach the ledge with the endoskeleton above.
See the hole in the background wall? An endoskeleton will emerge
from the hole as you walk by, and every time you see a hole in other
areas in this stage, the same thing will happen. You will see their red
eyes before they emerge, however, so when you see them, run a little
past so you won't touch the endo, couch, turn, and fire, and you'll get
them every time. There's another endo right past, so deal with it before
you climb the ladder and kill the endo guarding the grenades. Moving
right along, you'll come to another endo and then a T-800, lying down
on a ledge above you, firing downwards towards you. Observe his 3
shot pattern, run under the T-800 when you see a break in the shots,
point your gun upwards, and blow it away with 3 shots of your own! It's
cool to see portions of the skin get blown away with each shot,
revealing the endoskeleton underneath. A little ahead are 2 more
T-800s, one on the ground and one on the ledge, each crouching
and firing. You'll likely take a hit from the one on the ground, so run
and fire at it to take it out before you take more than 1 hit. Once it has
been destroyed, aim upwards and kill the other T-800. If you don't get
anything else out of this FAQ, remember this: the best way to take care
of a future threat is to deal with it before it becomes a present danger.
In other words, if you can destroy something before you get to it, and
many times you will be able to, do it!

A little past the ladder, there is an endo guarding some grenades.
Take it out, then take out the one on the ground, getting the grenades
when you can. Another endo will attack, but you know what to do to it.
See that item box? There's a first aid kit inside, but take down all 4 of
the endos in the area before you get it. If you shoot the box open and
then scroll the power-up off the screen and it's not there when you return,
don't worry - it will be back in the box, and you know how to get it out.
When all the endos are gone near the first aid, get it and move on. You
will notice an earthbomber on the ground, and you can either jump over
it or destroy it with a grenade. I recommend jumping, since they will only
move when you are on the ground. When you jump, they stop moving
until you touch back down. When there are 2 of them right next to each
other, however, grenading one or both of them will help. Between the
first and second earthbombers, you will see the first sattelite unit. This
one will fire at you, and you can either fire back or scroll it off the screen
to get rid of it. Past the second earthbomber is another sattelite,
followed by 2 earthbombers right near one another. You can jump over
them, but beginning players may want to grenade at least one of these.
Remember that Kyle cannot point hit gun downwards, so grenades are
the only way to destroy earthbombers. You will pass 5 earthbombers
total before you reach the next wave of endos. One will attack on the
ground, and you can see one above. Take them both out, destroying
the one on the ground first, as it is the immediate threat. Another endo
and a T-800 will be on the above ledge. Deal with them as before,
and bear in mind that the T-800 will be lying down and shooting down
at your position. You've handled one like this before, though.

Another endo on the ground and another lying T-800 on the upper
ledge greet you next, followed by 2 endos, one on the ground and
one on the ledge. You know what to do here. Run to the right while
firing to destroy the endo and T-800 ahead. This T-800 will be on the
ground, crounching towards your direction, but if you run forward
firing, it will die quickly. Climb the ladder and run to the left, jumping
from ledge to ledge, and claim the rapid fire and first aid above the
last ledge on the left, shooting the first aid out of the box. Rapid
fire really comes in handy here! Drop down once you get the
power-ups and continue to the right, anticipating the endo on the
ground and the lying T-800 on the upper ledge. Jump and grab
onto the ladder so you won't have to deal with the earthbomber,
observe the crouching T-800's shooting pattern on the upper ledge,
climb up, and blow him away! You will find a 1up past the T-800,
after which you will drop to the ground and continue on. Destroy or
avoid the sattelite as before, shoot open the item box, and grenade
the earthbomber just past the box. Pick up the grenades you find
from the destroyed box and continue onward, taking out the endo
and T-800 you will find. The T-800 is lying down on the upper
ledge, firing down at you, but the ladder makes him easier than
even to deal with! Jump up, grab onto the ladder, climb to the
T-800's level, and let him have it! There is a rapid fire power-up
in a box behind another T-800 also on the ledge, this one
crouching. Duck and fire at this one, then get the rapid fire if you
want, and drop down, being mindful of the hole in the wall. Jump
past the hole, turn, duck, and fire to take out the endo that
emerges.

Around that time, you will see a sattelite unit dropping
earthbombers. This one moves in a wave pattern, unlike the
firing sattelite, which move in a straight line and sort of chase
you. Back away, aim upwards and fire at this one, as it drops
more earthbombers. Go back to the right and jump over or
grenade the earthbomber, and run for it. A total of 4 sattelites
will have come by the time you reach the next earthbomer.
Of the 4, 2 fire and 2 drop earthbombers. Rather than wasting
grenades on the second earthbomber (or any others the last
sattelite might have dropped), jump and grab onto the ladder
you see, jump to the ledge, and jump off the other side to get
some distance away from the hole. As usual, turn, duck, and
fire to take out the endo that will emerge. Get on the upper
ledge past the hole, shoot the item box, and take the first aid
inside. Back on the ground, you will confront 2 more endos
before you see a ladder. On the ledge next to the ladder is
a crouching T-800. Stay off the ladder, aim upwards, and kill
the T-800, then the 2 endos on the ground ahead. There is no
point in climbing the ladder. Just keep going and you will
reach the end of this area.

The next area is quick, albeit slightly difficult. You will hop
in the back of a truck now, and man a large cannon. Aim
the cannon at the aerial HK, shooting the clusters it
releases before they in turn release projectiles. If they do
release these projectiles, remember that you can hit those,
too. In short, the weapons take priority, and when none are
being fired at you, you will have a clear shot at the HK.
When the HK goes down, you will move on to the final area
of this stage.

You will meet an endo and a T-800 on the ground to start
this area. You know what to do. Take the upper ledge and
shoot open the item box, taking the grenades and rapid
fire you'll find. Drop to the ground and take out the sattelite
that will be overhead, shooting its earthbombers before
they reach the ground. Further ahead are 2 T-800s. Shoot
the one on the ground first, then deal with the one lying on
the upper ledge as before. Shoot the item box and take
the first aid. Jump and climb the ladder ahead, gunning
down the T-800 on the upper ledge. Since he is lying down,
your best place of attack is the ladder. Take the ledge to
avoid the earthbomber, jump to the next ledge, kill the
crouching T-800 and take the radip fire. Jump past the
hole in the wall, ducking and crouching to kill the
emerging endo as before, and also take out the other
endo approaching from the right. To the right, you will
find another upper ledge with a lying T-800. Do your
stuff! There is a hole in the wall beyond this ledge, with
another ledge beyond the hole, with a standing T-800
on the ledge. What luck! You can see his gun! Aim up
from the ground and you can destroy him easily. Run
past the hole in the wall, turn, duck and fire as usual,
jump to the upper ledge to the left of the hole, shoot
open the boxes, and claim the first aid and rockets
inside.

Drop back to the ground and take down the
2 endos on the ground and the T-800 you will see
on the upper ledge. When you see the earthbomber,
be careful - a sattelite and another earthbomber are
beyond. The sattelite fires, and the earthbombers
are really close, so a grenade may be in order here.
Another firing sattelite is up ahead, along with 3
earthbombers, though these are far enough apart
that you can easily jump over each and avoid injury.
There is an endo past the third earthbomber, so get
ready to destroy it. Get the T-800 ahead on the ledge
barely on the screen (where you can see him but he
won't fire), jump up and kill the killing machine before
it becomes a problem. Another endo and 2 T-800s
await ahead, one T-800 lying on an upper ledge
and the other crouching on the ground. Stay on the
ground to destroy the endo, then run past the lying
T-800 when you see a break in his shots, your gun
blazing to kill the crouching T-800 on the ground.
Finally, aim upwards and fire at the one on the ledge.
Treat the hole in the wall and the endo beyond it
accordingly, then go ahead and kill the next two
while you're at it. Once they are gone, jump to the
upper ledge and take the grenades, rockets, and
first aid you'll find. Pass the 3 earthbombers, the
sattelite, and the 2 endos ahead, destroying the
latter and destroying or avoiding the former 2,
then grenade the next earthbomber so you can
destroy the endo beyond. Jump the next
earthbomber, and when between it and the one
beyond, they will both explode, as the ground HK
is on its way!

The ground HK looks more intimidating than it really
is. Just remember not to touch it, as you will immediately
die, and you will be fine. Shoot it in the head with your
PR40 or rockets while avoiding its bullets. It always
raises its head before it fires, and the first round goes
straight forward while the second goes downwards,
then straight, then downwards, etc. Remember this:
when the HK fires forward, you want to be on the ground,
and you want to jump when it fires downwards. When the
head is destroyed, the HK rumbles past you, leaving you
to venture on. First off after the HK, you will find an endo
and a crouching T-800 on the ground. Piece of cake by
now! Jump the upper ledge and grab the rapid fire, then
drop down and be ready for another endo and T-800.
The T-800 lies down on the upper ledge, and you know
by now how to handle them. Next up are 2 sattelites -
one firing and one dropping earthbombers. Deal with
them as before. After the sattelites, you will find more
firing sattelites and endos, but just make like a Konami
game and run and gun! Run forward and blast your
way through the endos, and don't stop unless one
gets its legs blown off and crawls. Even then, take
care of it quickly and keep running and gunning. If
you are careful, you will make it through without a
scratch to the time displacement chamber. Well done!

2.2     Stage 2: Rooftop Rampage

================================================================================

This level is a rather strange one, as it has nothing to do
with the movie. Also, for only being the second stage, it
is surprisingly difficult! I remember calling Nintendo's
game play counselors for help after dying so often the
first time I rented this game. Anyhow, Kyle made it back
to 1984, but neither his weaponry nor his clothes came
with him. You see, only living things can be sent through
time by SKYNET's equipment, and thought the
Terminator is a machine, it is surrounded by living tissue,
so that is how it was able to go through. Anyhow, Kyle has
gotten some clothes and a rapid fire weapon that looks
like a shotgun, and it's a good thing he has, because
he's found himself on the wrong side of town. Welcome
to side scrolling shooter heaven!

First thing's first - run to the right and gun down the thugs
that come towards you. Remember this about this
stage, as it will be very important: when you kill a thug,
it will fall off the screen. When it falls all the way to the
bottom, or if it disappears, the thug is gone completely.
You can leave the screen and come back, and it will
still be gone, much like stage 1! Anyhow, jump down to
the lower level and take out the 2 thugs there. Most
thugs will take 5 shots here, but the ones in the window
only take 2. Get on the ladder here and jump up, holding
up to aim your gun at the thug on the ledge, so you can
take care of him before you get to him.

Remember the tips from stage 1 to help you through
this stage. From this point, I will walk you through the
layout of the stage, without telling each individual
enemy you will meet. I will, however, give you some
general tips about each that will help you to defeat
them. The bald guys in blue pants stand up and fire
3 fast shots at your head. The long haired thugs in
blue pants crouch and fire 4 slower shots, whereas
the bald guys in green pants throw knives while
standing. Generally, crouching and firing at any of
these guys works well, even with the long haired
guy who crouches. The long haired guys with
green pants, however, who throw moltov cocktails,
are a different story, but still not too hard to beat.
Just get outside of their throwing range, but have
them still on the screen, and blow them away! Save
your moltov cocktails for situations where you have
an enemy below you, and you know you will have
to traverse the area where he is. On a final note,
moltov cocktails cannot be used against any
helicopter.

Anyhow, jump to the ledge above the ladder you hung
from to gun down the thugs, then jump to the window
ledge to take down the thugs above, and climb the next
ladder when they are gone. Head to the right to take
out your enemies there early, then go back to the right
and climb the ladder to the rooftop. Get rid of the
thugs on the roof and prepare for your first helicopter
encounter. These things are a real pain in the butt -
you are forced to stay in the center of the screen and
can only fire your gun. Simply put, the only real strategy
worth giving on these is to follow their movement and
open fire on them. Luckily, it doesn't take as many shots
as you might fear to put them down, but you can easily
take 2 hits in the battle, which is big, considering you
can only take 8 hits before you die.

After destroying the first helicopter, jump to the roof on
the right, take on all comers, and come down the ladder
on the left. Head right, jumping from ladder to ladder, until
there is no ladder to your right. Climb the last one all the
way down and you will see a ladder below you. Jump
down to it, climb down, jump to the ladder to the right,
then jump right again to the ledge. Take out the thug
above you to the right before you advance father right,
as a moltov cocktail will do the damage of 2 bullets!

Another tactic to use is to go to the right on the second
building (the rooftop where you start being the first and
the building with the first helicopter being the second),
and in the area just below the rooftop, go all the way to
the right. If you know what you're doing, you can grab
the ladder to the left and bypass the first helicopter
altogether! Just jump from ladder to ladder at this
point, working your way to the right as you go, until you
can go right no farther, then go to that ladder below,
and follow the rest as before.

Climb the ladder and stop on the ledge near the top so
you can take out the 2 thugs on the roof. There's another
helicopter there, and you'll want to get it alone so you can
take the least amount of damage possible. Past the
helicopter is a first aid kit, but save it if your health is still
pretty high. Climb back down and get to the right, on the
ledge under the moltov cocktail thug, and knock him off
his perch. Get the grenades on the right side of the ledge,
get on the ledge where the moltov cocktail thug was, and
jump to the next rooftop. A helicopter will be there.
Destroy it, climb down the ladder to the right all the way,
and jump from ledge to ledge until you find the ladder on
the left. Climb it, get on the ledge to the left, moltov
cocktail the thug on the ledge left of that one, and get the
first aid beyond him. If you couldn't want that long without
first aid, you can also go back and get the one on the other
roof easily.

You can also reach the first aid by going to the ledge just
under the roof here and going right. Jump to the shorter
ledge, possibly a window sill, and moltov cocktail the bald
thug, killing him instantly. From here, you can drop down to
where he was, take out the bald thug to the left, and get the
first aid. Not only will you get there more quickly, but you
get to bypass another helicopter!

From the first aid kit I mentioned, go back to the right the
way you came, using the ladder and small ledges until
you reach the ladder all the way to the right. Hang on
the bottom and just to the short ladder right next to it.
From there, drop to the ladder below and gun down
every thug you see. Then, get on the short ledge to the
right of the short ladder and jump to the ledge to the right
of that ladder. Run to the right, gunning all thugs you can
find, then use the ladders to reach the roof, taking out the
thugs on the roof before you get there. Shoot down the
helicopter here and take the first aid past it if you need
it or leave it if not. Use the ladders to climb back down,
not dropping off any except maybe the second to last
ladder.

This is impotant to remember in this level - if you
fall a certain distance, whether there is a ledge under
you or not, you die, so it's best not to take chances when
it comes to dropping down to surfaces. There is another
first aid kit below the bottom ledge on this building, but
save it since it is so easy to get to. When you are on the
lower ledge, jump to the next rooftop to the right and stay
on the rooftop so the helicopters won't come down to you
while there are thugs around. If you didn't get the rapid
fire, you aren't missing much - this gun already fires very
rapidly, so it doesn't make much difference. There will
be 2 helicopters, and if you didn't need first aid before,
you probably will now, so run back and get a kit,
preferrably the one on the roof of the building you're now
on, if you didn't already use that one. Run back to the
rooftop where you fought the two helicopters
(now on your right), step off the rooftop and immediately
hold left to land on the ledge below. Take out the thugs
here, run right and fight another helicopter.

At this time, if you still have a first aid kit on the other
building, go there now and use it, as you will not be
coming back this way. Hopefully the one on the
lower ladder leading down is still there - it is the
easier one to get to. It's slightly tricky, but you can
climb the ladder back up a ledge, then run and jump
across to the left, climb the ladder to the left, and
jump to the ledge to the left of it to reach said first aid
kit(s). Coming back, though, run along the roof and drop
as before to get down, as going from left to right after
climbing down the ladder on the roof is much harder
than, and maybe impossible, dropping off the right
side of the roof and shifting to the left. Get your first
aid, retrace your steps to where you fought the last
helicopter, and again drop off the right side of the
ledge, pressing left to land on the ledge there.
You will find first aid here as well, so if you had
nothing left to go back to on the other building, just
get what you find below. Deal with the thugs, and
jump to the next building on the right.

There is first aid below your position, but save it for
now. Use the ladders to reach the rooftop, killing
the thugs before you get there. There are 2
helicopters on this rooftop, and you don't have to
fight them, but I'm sure the 1up they guard will
make it worth your while. Get some first aid below
before venturing on, and if you go for the one near
the short ledges (below where you started on this
building), you need to use small leaps rather than
high jumps, to avoid bumping your head, which is
a sure way to leave a crater in the sidewalk. After
getting first aid, go to the rightmost ledge under
the ladders, step off the right side and, as usual,
immediately pull left, killing the moltov cocktail
thug quickly. Step off this ledge, too, but don't pull
left this time. Keep falling right and you will be at
one of the final buildings in the stage! At last!

Jump up and kill the thug on the upper ledge
even though you won't get there for a while.
Continue right along the small ledges until you
reach the longer one. Leap the first aid and
continue past the short ledges to the ladder.
Climb up the ladder and go left this time, hitting
the thugs on the upper ledge from the window
sills. Climb the short ladder when you get all the
way to the left, and from the ledge grab onto
one of the many ladders you will find. Make
your way from ladder to ladder to the left, climb
onto the ledge, and work your way to the right.
Climb the ladder to the roof. See the first aid kit
there? That means you're almost through this
infernal stage! Fight the helicopter on the roof,
then climb back down the ladder and drop
down to the roof to your left and fight 4 more
helicopters, getting the first aid when you need
it. Hopefully, you saved at least one first aid kit
to use after third helicopter goes down. If so, go
back and use it now, as going further will bring
you to the Cobra.

You can find a first aid kit on both ledges all the
way to each side under the many ladders.
If one of those is still left, get it after you fight all
the helicopters! When you finally reach the
Cobra, don't be intimidated - it's not as tough
as it looks, as you can move and jump while
fighting it. Just stay directly under the cockpit
or off to the side and you'll be fine. Don't get
under the wings, or its missles will hit you. It
doesn't take many more hits to shoot it down
than it takes to ground a regular helicopter.

2.3     Stage 3: Street Chase I

================================================================================

Congratulations on making it out of stage 2!
The rest of the game will be much easier to
learn! In this stage, you will be chased in your
car by the Terminator in a stolen police car.
In this stage and in stage 5, the strategy is
simple - keep shooting! If the Terminator is
isn't directly behind you, he will not fire,
whereas he will if he is directly behind you.
However, as long as you are shooting the
Terminator, he can't fire back, so make sure
you are prepared by firing in the direction he
will be coming when your paths finally will
cross (and eventually you will find yourself
directly in front of the Terminator, so just
make sure you're prepared).  Accellerating
isn't really necessary, especially with the
danger of oncoming traffic and road signs.
Just survive at normal or reduced speed,
whichever you find manageable for
handling the hazards on the road, until the
indicator runs out, and you'll make it.

================================================================================

2.4     Stage 4: Jailbreak!

================================================================================

At the police roadblock, Kyle was arrested and Sarah
taken into protective custody. The Terminator has now
come looking for Sarah, but luckily, Kyle has managed
to escape and is now looking for Sarah. Unfortunately,
Kyle isn't the only one who broke out. Several inmates
are also running amok in the station. Kyle must find Sarah
to end this stage.

The strategy here is simple. With everyone but the moltov
cocktail thugs, you can duck, and they get close and stop
firing, you can punch them once or twice, then duck again
as they start firing again, then come up when they stop
and finish them off with punches. With the moltov cocktail
thugs, you are best off to shoot them. You can stand by the
cops and they won't hurt you, though they will shoot.
However, if you get to their other side, they do not turn
around immediately. Furthermore, if a police officer's
bullets hit a thug, it will damage the thug just as it would
you. Same applies for moltov cocktails thrown by thugs.
On a final note, from time to time, the Terminator will bust
through a wall and shoot at you. The only way to get rid of
him is to fire back, and it is safest to crouch as you do so.

Beyond these general tips, the best ones to give as to tell
you what items each door contains. The order is from left
to right on each floor, with A symbolizing ammo, B
symbolizing brass knuckles, V symbolizing bulletproof
vests, F symbolizing first aid, 1 symbolizing 1ups,
* symbolizing Sarah, and N symbolizing nothing.

1st floor: A, A, N, F
2nd floor: A, N, V, A, F
3rd floor: A, A, N, F
4th floor: A, A, F, A, V
5th floor: F, A
6th floor: A, A, F, B, *, 1

================================================================================

2.5     Stage 5: Strret Chase II

================================================================================

This stage is much like the third, except you are now in a pickup
truck, and Terminator is chasing you on a motorcycle. Same
strategies apply.

================================================================================

2.6     Stage 6: You're Terminated!
          *WARNING* Possible spoilers!

================================================================================

This is it! After the last street chase, an unfortunate accident
(unfortunate for the Terminator, not for you!) in a semi
explosion has weakened the Terminator... and left him in
a quite inhuman state! The Terminator has now been
reduced to his endoskeleton. Unfortunately for you, not
even that was enough to stop this titanium terror! Now,
you are cornered inside a factory, and you only have
one chance to finish this battle, once and for all.

This is a very straightforward stage, and a very easy one
to beat. The Terminator charges towards Kyle Reese, who
is armed with only a steel pipe and his nerves of steel.
The tactic to use is simple - get in close enough to hit the
Terminator, then run away from it, until you get the chance
to hit him again. Watch out for the slime, the descending
hooks (different color from the ones in the background,
which makes them easier to tell apart), and the water vapor
blasts, and you will do fine. You will notice that the
Terminator has a health meter also, but you can never
reduce it to zero with the pipe.

However, beating the Terminator down is necessary to
slow its advance toward Sarah. If you hold it off long
enough, when you reach Sarah at the end of the stage,
she will toss you the pipe bomb, which she just made.
Take the pipe bomb, stick it in the Terminator, and
watch him explode! In the game, it gives you the
impression that the Terminator was completely
destroyed, whereas in the movie, only its legs
were blown off. However, both in the movie and in the
game, your character, Kyle Reese, died at the end of
the climactic battle, so your work is done. Believe
what you will about the battle being over, but even if
the Terminator is still alive, Sarah can take it from
here. Well done, soldier!

3.0     Intermissions

WARNING: This area contains content that may spoil the story of the game.
Please read no further if you do not already know these intermissions and
do not want the story spoiled for you. Thank you!

================================================================================

3.1     Stage 1 Intermission

================================================================================

A cinematic of Kyle Reese falling into a dark alley in Los Angeles
is shown, followed by a showing of his shadow standing up (our
view is from outside the alley, looking at a wall where Kyle's
shadow is projected) with the flashing lights, and then a picture of
the phone book page where Sarah's listing can be found.

================================================================================

3.2     Stage 2 Intermission

================================================================================

A still image from the movie, of Kyle telling Sarah she is in
danger, is shown.

================================================================================

3.3     Stage 3 Intermission

================================================================================

A still image from the movie, at the police station during the
escape, is shown.

================================================================================

3.4     Stage 4 Intermission

================================================================================

See Stage 3 intermission.

================================================================================

3.5    Stage 5 Intermission

================================================================================

A still image from the movie, of the Terminator emerging from
the explosion of the semi, as only the endoskeleton, is shown.

================================================================================

3.6    Good Ending

================================================================================

A cinematic of the Terminator's eye is shown, with the red light
fading and going out, and then the image seen through its
eyes goes out. The picture of the Terminator, which can be
seen on the game's label (and which can be seen on the
movie's box art), appears as the backdrop for the displayed
credits. After the credits, the message "Game Terminated"
is displayed.

================================================================================

3.7    Bad Ending

================================================================================

A cinematic of the war torn Los Angeles in the future is dislayed, with
as aerial HK flying overhead and firing its laser cannon at the
combatants, which can be seen in the opening to the movie. After
the shot, the words "Game Over" appear, with fire in the letters.
