Again, The Maid's Story is an adult bishoujo game, which means it contains
sex.  If you find this theme objectionable, then you will not want to
play this game or read this document.

The game is a maid training simulation.  For three months, you're in
charge of scheduling each maid's daily activities of cooking,
cleaning, and "serving".  The manner in which you handle the girls
will affect how quickly their skills improve. By the end of the game
each maid should have gained proficiency enough to be the perfect
maid and pass the mysterious maid's exam!

Tatsuaki - YOU!  You're an unemployed college graduate who gets a job
          training maids in a country mansion.  Honestly, you don't
          seem to be a very nice guy.

Alice Tachibana - Your reliable and attractive secretary; she will
                 give you daily reports on the state of affairs.

Hitomi Matsumoto - An attractive, brown-haired girl right out of high
                  school; it is her dream to become the perfect maid.
                  She's described as being very untalented and
                  clumsy, but I found that she actually advances her
                  skills as quickly as the other two girls.

Sanae Yuki - A petite, red-headed firecracker.  She really has little
            interest in being a maid; she wants to improve her value
            as a bride.  She has a little too much pride for her own
            good, and it will be up to you to bring her down a notch.

Azusa Kobayakawa - Raven haired and full-figured, Azusa came here
                  after running away from home.  She looks the oldest
                  of the three(although they are all listed as 18 in
                  the manual).  Sometimes she acts strangely and can
                  be difficult to figure out.

Each girl has information that tells her current condition and her
skill level in the training areas.

 STAMINA BAR - Tells you how much energy the girl has left.  If her
               energy is too low(about less than 1/4 full) at the
               beginning of the day, she will get the day off to
               recover.  Naturally its important to keep the girls in
               working condition.  You can conserve a girl's energy
               during the day by letting her rest or work below her
               ability level.

 LOVE METER - Each girl has between zero and ten hearts which tell
              how she feels about you.  This will affect her attitude
              when she talks to you during the day, but it does not
              carry over to how she treats you at night.

              The ratings are as follows : Less than 1 - She hates you
                                           1 to 3 - Normal
                                           3 to 5 - Friendly
                                           Greater than 5 - In love
                                           7 or above - She's yours

              With this distribution, you can see the problem usually
              lies not with getting a girl to fall for you but in
              keeping them at a distance.
              To get a particular girl in the end, you need to at least
              keep her meter at seven hearts(read the endings section for
              the whole picture).
              If a girl you don't want to end the game with becomes
              enamored with you, putting her into treatment(wearing
              her out) will take a heart(or more) off of her love meter.

 SKILL LEVEL - Every area described in the day training will have a
               skill level between one and five associated with it.
               With the exception of shopping, a three should be good
               enough to pass the exam at the end.  This shouldn't be
               difficult; in fact, each girl should have a couple of
               fives when your days are up.  Shopping, since it is
               done less frequently, will be harder to achieve(the
               highest I've gotten is a three).
               The higher the skill level, the less energy it takes
               for a maid to perform that task, which means more
               energy for _other_ things.

The day is divided up into morning, noon, and afternoon.  You must
schedule an activity for each girl for each part of the day for a
total of nine activities.  The girls will be working six days a
week(they get Sunday off).  No one can be doing the same thing
at the same time(with exception of the special material).  The
possible activities are as follows:

  Cleaning - If it gets too dirty cobwebs will form and the guests
             will complain.  Also remember that garbage days are
             Mondays and Thursdays.

  Cooking - Its important to prepare three meals a day or the girls'
            stamina will suffer(they won't recover as much energy
            at night).

  Shopping - Don't run out of food.  You will need money to shop.  I
             believe it costs around $200 dollars each time a girl
             goes shopping(although the cost should go down with
             greater experience).  You can send a girl shopping with
             no money, it will benefit her rating; she just won't
             come back with any food.

  Washing - Keep those clothes clean.

  Service - Occasionally someone will come to the mansion and you
            will pick a girl to wait on them.  The guest will
            evaluate the maid's performance based on her abilities in
            the previous areas.  They may also make some indecent
            requests.

  Rest - If a maid's stamina is too low, you should let her rest to
         prevent her from getting sick.  Letting a girl rest all day
         will add half a heart to her love meter!


I'm not going into great detail here into how to train the maid's.
As long as you don't neglect any areas, the maids should make sufficient
progress.  There are some ways to speed up the process though.  If you
make a maid work above her current level, she will advance more quickly.

Also, you should patrol each girl every day.  Your choice to
encourage or scold her on these occasions DOES affect how she gains
her skill, to find out how read the section "Gaining Levels".
When their levels are low, scolding seems to improve them all fairly quickly.
The general trend I've noticed is that Hitomi respondes well to
scolding, Azusa does better with encouragement, and Sanae is somewhere
in between.  Regardless, you should mix it up, as the same attitude
will not always be the best with a particular girl.

Putting a girl to work and occasionally patrolling her will make her
level up eventually, but you can make her gain skill quicker.  The following
are the fastest ways I have found to make a girl gain skill levels.

I won't pretend this is an exact science.  For the levels that
require multiple patrols your words make little difference; the
act of patrolling pushes a girl's level up.  This is _not_ true
for one step levels(except for Azusa's Lv. 1 cooking), so you will
want to follow those exactly for the most efficient performance.
At the very least, this guide will tell you how many times you need
to patrol a girl, and you can plan the schedule accordingly.

Again, be aware that you don't have to patrol a girl for her to
gain levels; she just improves more quickly when you do!

"Kinbikan" is the name of the mansion in which you and the maids live.
Needless to say, as a result of maid training the mansion should be a model
of cleanliness(okay, so it won't always be that way).  Anyway, you will able
to see the status of the four key areas of the mansion on a table in the
bottom left-hand corner of the screen.  Along with possible descriptions,
these are the areas:

 Garbage -  Nothing
            A little
            A lot
            Smelly
            Bad

    Dirt -  Shining
            Good
            Normal
            Dirty
            Scary

 Laundry -  Nothing
            A little
            More
            A lot
            Bad
            Scary

    Food -  Full
            Good
            Alright
            Decreased
            Bad
            Scary

The status of each area will change depending on how often a maid works
at each task and by the amount of effort she puts into the task.  If an area's
status is good, the description will be in blue.  Average status are depicted in
yellow; critical situations appear in red.

Once a category reaches "scary", you should take action immediately(unless
of course you _want_ the special events).  You are allowed two days to take care
of dirt(cleaning).  Laundry and garbage must be tended to in only one day.  Food
is even more sensitive - "bad" is the cutoff point.  Once it hits "scary" its too
late, all the girls will already be shopping.

Throughout the game guests will come to the mansion.  One of the maids
will serve the guest and receive an evaluation.  You should always make
a maid serve at least one level higher than her current level!

From the most frequent visitors to the least, the guests:

   Akira Hirai - Supposedly, he's a friend of yours, but you treat him
                 poorly.  If Hitomi or Sanae wait on him, he will offer you
                 some cash($300) in exchange for some "time alone" with
                 them.  Also, he'll try to take advantage of Azusa
                 without giving you any compensation.  If you do accept,
                 its a way to increase their "night experience"; and as far
                 as I can tell, it doesn't affect how much they like
                 you.  (It might even help?!?)  It could even boost
                 their service rating.


   Itsuki Mizushima - Your cruel ex-girlfriend.  When she comes
                      around she will sometimes proposition you;
                      don't accept more than once unless you want her
                      in the end!  Also, the maids will usually make
                      a mistake during her service and she will feel
                      the need to punish them.  Going along with her
                      the first time will make the maid gain a
                      level.  If you make her stop the second time,
                      the maid should gain another level.(That is the
                      first and second time for EACH maid)  However, it
                      won't work every time.

   Yoshitatsu Nagayama - This guy has a sort of Lolita thing going.
                         He'll actively make offers for Sanae and
                         he'll take advantage of Hitomi or Azusa if
                         she screws up.  Allowing him to have his way
                         with Sanae will net you $500.  He'll give
                         you $2000 every time he visits, regardless
                         of whether or not you oblige him.

   Gendo Kobayakawa - Notice the name?  He's sort of your boss; it
                      seems he owns the mansion.  He'll sometimes
                      proposition you for Hitomi or Sanae.  If you
                      want a real interesting reaction, let Azusa
                      serve him.  Take her side and she will like you
                      more(he also won't come back).  Scold her and you
                      find out why she ran away.  Either way she
                      should gain a level on service.

Akira, Itsuki, or Gendo will show up the following days :
4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29, 32, 36, 39, 43, 46, 50, 53,
57, 60, 64, 67, 71, 74, 78, 81, 85, and 88.

The one that actually shows up is random.

Yoshi's visits, however, are fixed on the following days:
17, 31, 45, 58, 73, and 87.

Seriously, if you don't want to let anything improper go on between
the guests and the maids, you don't have to do it to complete the game
successfully.

Two merchants visit the mansion three times each.  Try not to spend
all your money or you won't have any left for food.  Money is a tricky
thing in this game.  Your only guaranteed source of income is the
$2000 you get from Nagayama's visits(plus any extra you might get from
the guests).  As far as I can tell, you spend $40 - $60 on a regular
day, plus food money(if you send a girl shopping).  The effects of empty
pockets are not obvious in the game, because you can keep on cooking
without any food and send the girls shopping without buying anything.

Merchant A visits the 10th, 38th days, and 65th days.

His inventory:  Gifts - Stuffed Animal.........................$20
                       Present set from some famous shop......$30
                       Apron..................................$40

                       Accessories............................$50

                       You can give these to a girl at night if you
                       praise her instead of train her.  Her reaction
                       will be dictated by how much she likes you,
                       not which item you give her.  These events
                       produce some cute CG's, but they are not
                       guaranteed to improve her feelings towards
                       you.


               Special tools - The egg........................$60
                               The vibrator...................$45

                               These are for night lessons.  Do I
                               have to tell you that you need them
                               all?  Purchase each the first time
                               around.  If you must pick and choose,
                               the egg is for Hitomi, the vibrator
                               for Sanae, and the others for Azusa.


               Medicine - Love potion.........................$60
                          Energy drink........................$60
                          Super energy drink..................$100

                          He offers you three choices.  I wouldn't bother
                          with the "Love Potion"; I used it once and
                          the girl actually liked me less the next
                          day.  It does increase her experience 1%
                          though.  The "energy drink" will increase stamina
                          by about a quarter bar; the "super" variety
                          increases stamina by half a bar.  Apparently,
                          the energy drinks also negatively affect a
                          girl's love meter.


Merchant B visits the 24th, 52nd, and 80th days.

His inventory:   Interior - High-class furniture...............$1000
                           Chandelier.........................$300
                           Painting of a famous painter.......$1000
                           Tableware set of gold..............$300
                           Red carpet.........................$300
                           Some statue........................$450

                           These items will improve the appearance of
                           the mansion, and the guests will praise it
                           in their evaluations.  I don't believe
                           that it really helps the maid's stats
                           any.  The changes will appear on the
                           screen, which is neat.

                             These make it easier for the maids to
                             perform their tasks, i.e. they expend
                             less energy.  These also appear on the
                             screen.  The refrigerator makes food
                             last longer, meaning less shopping.  All
                             the others correlate to the logical chore.

During night training you can either praise a girl or really
_train_ her.  It is during praise that you can give gifts and such.
The tone of the conversation you have with the girl will depend on how
much she likes you.  Praising a girl will not necessarily make her
like you more, but it will give her stamina bar a bit more energy the
next morning.  That said, its quite possible to go through the game
without praising anyone.  The dialogue is quite humorous, though, so
you might want to check it out for that reason.

Okay, now for night training(that is what the game is all about,
right?).  Your options are pretty self-explanatory - there are certain
warmup activities and then the real show.  Night training can take up
a lot of energy, so you must monitor the current status carefully. You
can use up all a girl's energy, but she'll pass out and won't be
available for anything the next day.  As with other activities, the
more experience a girl has doing a particular thing, the less energy
it will take away from her stamina.

A maid must be proficient in night training or she will fail
her exam!  To successfully complete night training, you must raise the
maid's experience percentage to a certain point(she starts out at 1%).
Seventy percent is the cutoff(at this point the guests will be
satisfied with her "service").  Don't get discouraged if things don't
go well at first, its supposed to work that way.  There's no
connection to how much a girl likes you, etc.  Likewise, the manner in
which you treat a girl during training has no bearing on how she will
feel about you the next day.

Whenever you perform an act, regardless of its degree, the girl's
experience will rise either one or two percentage points.  After you
do any one activity a total of SEVEN times, the girl will not gain any
experience.  In other words, to get a girl's percentage really high,
you have to do a variety of things.

Another tip: you can do the "warmup" activities as many times as
you like in one night, but once you "do it" the night is over.  Take
advantage of this on say, Saturday nights, when there is nothing to do

There are several special CG's you can get of all three maids
together.  If you neglect cleaning, washing, the trash, or shopping
long enough the maids will automatically be scheduled to pick up the
slack and a special CG will be shown of them working.  The best one is
of laundry day(you have barely any clothes to wear!).

As an added bonus, it is possible to get a special night with Alice.
You've probably noticed that one of your night options is to visit
her.  During this time you can talk to her about two topics, or you
can choose to leave, at which point she will call you back for more
conversation.  Every 30 days her topics of conversation will change.
So, talk to her about all three topics in the first 30 days, the
second 30 days, and the final 30 days.  Sometime after you have
completed all this, choose to DO NOTHING one night, and if it works
out right she should come visit you for a special evening.  Enjoy!

You can end up with five different girls at game's end.  It seems
that in order to actually end up with a maid, she must have a rating
of at least 7 on her love meter(i.e. a rating between 5 and 7 means
she loves you but will not stay with you in the end).  Also, when
shooting for a particular maid, be sure to give her the most attention at
night.


 Hitomi - A rating of at least 7 means she's yours.

 Sanae - At least 7 for her, and Hitomi MUST have LESS than 7.
         Also give her more sexual experience than Azusa.

 Azusa - At least 7 for her, and Hitomi AND Sanae must have
         LESS than 7.

 Alice - Your consolation prize if none of the maids love you.
         (i.e. ALL have love meters below 7)

 Itsuki - If you accept her "offer" more than once, she will show up
          on the 87th day with a surprise.  You DON'T get to see the
          results of the maids' exams.
