Solution to the Black Cauldron
Enter house. Speak to Dallben. Take gruel from fire. Take all from closet.
Leave, go east. Take corn from shed.
Feed Hen Wen (either gruel or corn)
Re-enter house. Acquire rope from Dallben. Hen Wen follows you.
Fill the water flask at the stream. Eat and drink when necessary.
Find the thick grove of bushes and walk through it. Enter the house.
If Hen Wen wasn't captured by a gwythainth before this, you'll have saved
her; obtain the magic word from Gwystyl.
Take the cookies from the closet.
Find the hollow tree in the forest and take out the lute.
See if you meet Gurgi, then give him the apple (optional).
Find the warning sign and remove the dagger.
Go to the mountain range and climb to the sheer wall. Use the rope.
You'll need to do a lot of climbing here. Keep up the good work!
You'll end up at the moat of the Horned King's castle.
Entering the castle:
Swim across the moat; climb the wall
Use the dagger to hack the vines from the window, then enter.
-OR-
Go west, re-enter the screen until the henchman appears.
Climb in his wagon.
Getting Hen Wen out of here:
Rescue her; walk upstairs then west to the balcony; throw her out.
-OR-
Rescue her; go to the dungeon; find the sword.
-OR- [best score]
Go to the dungeon; find the sword; rescue her.
Go to the front gate, and slash the winch with your sword. Then leave.
-OR-
If you've saved Hen Wen at Gwystyl's earlier, just get the sword.
Rescuing Hen Wen:
Go upstairs and east to the balcony.
Jump when Creeper appears; lure him behind the table, then take Hen Wen
away from him and rush from the door.
Entering the dungeon:
Get yourself captured by any guard.
From the prison, take the cup and bang it on the door.
Then leave through the hatch.
-OR-
Go down to the cellar with the gargoyle on the wall.
Twist the gargoyle, then go down through the hatch.

Go to the wine room near the front gate.
Walk between the topmost and second keg on the right side. Drop down.
Finding the Sword:
From the dungeon, go to the northwest corner.
Remove the stones one by one. Enter.
Eillonwy leaves. If you have Hen Wen with you by now, she'll be rescued.
Getting out of the dungeon:
Find the corridor with the gargoyle on the wall.
Twist the gargoyle, then go up through the hatch.
Once you've got the sword:
Go down to the cellar, then one room east.
Stun the guard with the sword, then get the keys.
Open the door and go north. Rescue Fflewddur to obtain the harp.
Note: easter egg in the east wall, just above the bench.
Getting out of the castle:
Go to the top floor, then west to the balcony. Jump off.
-OR-
If you entered through the window, leave through it and climb down.
-OR- [best score]
Go to the front gate, and slash the winch with your sword. Then leave.
Climb down the mountain again, and re-enter the forest.
Finding the Faeries' home:
If you've saved Hen Wen at Gwystyl's, go to the waterfall.
Stand near the rock in the southeast corner, and say the magic word bmmxpf.
Enter the cave and drop down.
-OR-
Otherwise, find the pool west of the waterfall.
Jump from the west side over all stones until you get to the large one.
Offer the faeries the lute or the harp.
Obtain five flying dusts and the magic mirror.
Use flying dust to exit the cavern.
Go west to the swamp.
Jump all the way across using the stepping stones.
-OR-
Use the faerie dust and fly across.
Enter the house. Open the chest to release the frogs.
Offer the Sword to the witches.
Removing the Cauldron's Magic:
Once outside, you can destroy the cauldron by jumping inside quickly.
You've won, but you're dead. You can do better than that.
-OR-
Otherwise, it'll get stolen. Return to the castle.
Go to the room south of Fflewddur's, and remove the eastern grate. Enter.
Jump in the cauldron.
If you've given Gurgi the apple in the woods, he'll jump instead.
Otherwise, you'll have won but'll be dead.
-OR- [best score]
Instead of jumping in the cauldron, jump down from the ledge.
Show the mirror to the Horned King.
The witches will offer you three gifts: the book of knowledge, a pot of gold,
or Gurgi if you've let him jump in the cauldron; a magic shield, a magic
armor or the magic Sword if you've used the mirror. Take the last gift for
the best score.
