01.)                    INTRODUCTION                                 G0100
===============================================================================

Welcome to 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' for the PC, released by Gremlin
Interactive in 1992 (published by Konami in the US). The game was also released
for the Amiga and Atari ST. As far as I know all versions are identical.

This game is, most obviously, based on the movie with the same name. Although
there are no similarities with the plot, you are in the same universe and the
characters actors into the story. You do not have to have seen the movie, or
the movie 'Ed Wood', to understand anything, but most of the jokes are part of
these events. A pun is often made about this game being based on the 'worst
movie of all time' (I personally disagree, there are many far worse movies, it
is just a cliche).

Suggestions, comments or errors - tell me about it. Enjoy!

02.)                    WALKTHROUGH                                  G0300
===============================================================================

Once you select your language you will watch a movie-like introduction.

Afterwards, the first thing you have to do is give the producer a word from the
manual. Open it up to find it, type it in, then we can start with the real
game.

Go to the corridor (south edge of the screen), to the foyer and finally out to
the street. Go down the street to the diner, then east to The Hub Cap. Enter
it.

Talk to the strange female type.
*Nice hairdo.
*Well, so long.
Talk to the barman.
*I'd like to buy the rum.
*I'll pay cash.
You will receive the rum.

Return to the producer's office. He is not there any more. Examine the desk to
find a key. Enter the private room and look at the left most photo hanging on
the wall. There is an address scribbled in the corner.

Leave the room and go down to the foyer. Talk to the doorman.
*Call me taxi, please.
*So long then, I'm off.

Go outside and enter the taxi. Tell the cab driver to go to "Lot 9, Pleasant
Rest, Highgate".

Walk into the cemetery and inside the crypt. Examine Bela Lugosi's body. You
take his house key. Also take the hammer lying nearby.

Back in the taxi, tell the driver to go to "Vlad The Impaler St.".

Enter the house (automatically using the key). Enter the study (top left).
Examine the 'Mall' flyer on the left and take the picture of Bela next to it.
Push the left trophy hanging on the wall to find a credit card. Examine it to
find a number. Drop the house key once you are back outside.

Return to the cab and tell the guy to drive to the 'Hypermega Mall'.

Enter the mall, push the elevator button and walk inside when the doors slide
open. Push the 2 button and exit when you get there. Talk to the assistant.
*I'd like to buy the mask.
*TrEx?
*I have to be going.
Examine the scary mask to find a small key and a note. Read it, then dump it.
You also do not need the scary mask any more thus dump it as well.

Use the elevator to ride to the 3rd floor. Enter the travel agent. Talk to the
assistant.
*I'd like to book a flight.
*I'll take it.
*TrEx?

Ride up to floor number five and walk inside the hardware store. Talk to the
assistant after examining the spade.
*Nice day for gatherin' corn.
*I'd like to buy the spade.
*TrEx?
*So long.
Use the passport with the photocopier on the right side.

Your last stop is the 6th floor the bank. Talk to the teller.
*I'd like some foreign currency.
*Brazil
*I'd like some foreign currency.
*Washington
*I'd like some foreign currency.
*Australia
*I'd like some foreign currency.
*Hong Kong
*Thank you. Good day.
You will now have 100 unit of each currency. Give the small key (found with the
scary mask) to the teller. The safety deposit box number is 530143. Open the
safety deposit box. Take the 'Wun' film reel. Examine it, drop the small key as
you will not be needing it any longer.

Back to the ground floor and inside the taxi, tell the guy you want to go to
'Lot 9, Pleasant Rest, Highgate'.

Enter the cemetery (left of the crypt) to find a cross with the name "J Harris
RIP" written on it. Use the spade on the grave three times to open it up, then
examine the open grave to retrieve a film reel. Examine it to identify it as
'of'. Drop the spade and leave the cemetery.

Tell the cab driver to go to the 'EWJ Airport'.

Inside, give the airline representative your ticket. Go to the runway and board
the plane. Quickly enter the cockpit before the plane lands already, talking to
the pilot on the right side.
*Know a place to stay in Rio?
*Well I must be going.
Return to the plane and it will land shortly.

Enter the taxi driver who will automatically take you to a hotel.

Examine the registry book, look for the name S. Peters. Talk to the
receptionist.
*I'd like a room please.
*I'd like room 21.
Go the room. Take the pilot ID lying on the table. Examine it to learn of his
address. Use your photo (not photograph!) on the pilot ID to replace it. Walk
out of the hotel and down to the beach (right of the receptionist), then left
to a cave. There will be a funny event with the bats, I will not spoilt it for
you. Take the film reel, examine it to find it is 'Lo'. At this point you may
also drop the room key.

Return to the airport. There will be a scene when you enter the concourse. Talk
to the police officer when you get the chance.
*Can I go now?
*No, I cannot bow to bribery.

You will end up in a prison cell. Do not wait too long as you will spend a long
time serving your sentence. Quickly give the rum to the prison guard. He will
leave behind a statuette. Use the hammer with the statuette to retrieve a slimy
pupa. Leave the prison and also drop the hammer.

Enter the airport concourse and show the ticket to the airline representative.
Walk to your plane and it will take you home where you should get into the
taxi. Tell the drive you want to go to 'Aviation Way'.

Use the TrEx card on the door. Inside, take the scuba hear in the hallway. Go
into the back garden and pick up the film reel. Examine it to find it is the
'Property' film reel.

Return to the taxi and take it to the 'Cheapflik Studios'. Enter the foyer and
go down the corridor to the store room. Pick up the love beads around the
statue. Take the dictionary on the right as well. Talk to the doorman in the
foyer about getting a taxi and you will have to bribe him $10 to get one.

Drive to 'EWJ Airport'.

Inside the concourse, give the Pilot ID to the airline representative and fly
to Australia.

Take the taxi who will take you the opera house. Walk right to the beach and
speak with the bather.
*Hi there, nice weather.
*Would you like these beads?

You will get to know the hippy commune. Return to the opera house and catch a
taxi to the airport, then give the Pilot ID to the airline representative again
to fly 'Home, actually'. Take the taxi to the 'Cheapfliks Studios' but do not
go inside.

First go down the street to the diner and grab the balloon on the table. Return
to the streets and go talk to the men at the building site. They will mention
your tan.
*Yeah I got it in Australia.
*Is that the commune near Sydney?
*Sure thing, no problem.

Return to the studio and ask the doorman in the foyer to call you a taxi. You
may have to give him a tip again, it seems random. Drive to the 'EWJ Airport'.
Give the Pilot ID to the airline representative and fly to 'Australia'.

Walk left to the bridge and talk to the painter.
*Hello there.
*I SAID HELLO THERE.
*WERE YOU IN THAT CROCODILE FILM?
After you take a dive, quickly use the scuba gear else you drown. Pick up the
crowbar (if you still have too many items, consider what you can throw away).
Use the balloon with the scuba gear to shoot out of the water and back to the
opera house. You may drop the scuba gear and balloon at this point.

Walk to the hippy commune via the beach and talk to the male hippy.
*Hey, you know a guy called Fred?
*Like hang loose dudes.
Examine the film reel you got to find it labeled as 'H.K.'.

Drive to the airport, give the Pilot ID to the airline representative and fly
to 'Hong Kong'.

After the usual taxi ride, talk to the movie mogul.
*Hello there.
*The cabby left me here.
*Oh yes, tell me more.
*I'll be going now.
Ride back to the airport, give the Pilot ID to the airline representative and
fly to 'Washington'.

Take the taxi to talk to the CIA chief. You can answer anything and he will
send you to Cuba. When the guy talks to you in Spanish, examine the dictionary.
He will give you some cigars and a poster and you return to Washington. Ride
the taxi to the CIA chief. Hand over the cigar sand poster to the large man and
ride the taxi to the Smithsonian.

Give the slimy pupa to the curator. Walk forward into the warehouse. Examine
the crates until you find the one with a 'O.R. Yental, Hong Kong' label on it.
Use the crowbar on this crate to find the Netsuke as well as a film reel.
Examine the film reel to find it is 'Song'.

Fly to Hong Kong (you should know how to do it by now). After the taxi ride you
will be back with the movie mogul. Give him the Netsuke. In return you will be
given a talisman. Walk left to the border. Go to China to be kidnapped at the
Great Wall. When you get to the monk, give them the talisman. Finally, go to
the aliens to see the finale.

===============================================================================

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Property'
It is a reel of film. On the canister is the word 'Property'. Found outside in
the back garden of your house at Aviation Way. Part of your quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'of' (Film Reel)
It is a reel of film. On the canister is the word 'of'. Dug up from the grave
of J. Harris at the cemetary. Part of your quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Wun' (Film Reel)
It is a reel of film. On the canister is the word 'Wun'. Found inside the
safety deposit box at the bank on the 6th floor of the HyperMall. Part of your
quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Lo' (Film Reel)

in Rio, but guarded by bats unless you have a photograph of their hero Bela
Lugosi. Part of your quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'H.K.' (Film Reel)
It is a reel of film. On the canister is the word 'H.K.'. Given to you by the
male hippy at the hippy commune in Syndey if you know of his friend back at
home (the building site near the studios). You only know about his friend once
you have actually discovered the hippy commune. Part of your quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Song' (Film Reel)
It is a reel of film. On the canister is the word 'Song'. Found inside a crate
in a warehouse in Washington. Part of your quest.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AUS$
Australian currency, exchanged at the bank in the HyperMall. Used for nothing
as it seems, although you may need to have it for some reason I have not
thought of, i.e. the game would not let you advance without it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Balloon
It is a promotional item from some computer game called 'Lotus Turbo
Challenge 2'. If used with the scuba gear it will make for some kind of
MacGyver-ish boost to get out of the water while carrying heavy stuff, for
example, a crowbar.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cigars
Given to you in Cuba. Part of your mission for the CIA.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crowbar (Crow Bar)
It is a normal enough crowbar. Found down under the water in Sydney harbor
when taking a dive off the bridge. It is very heavy thus you will need some
kind of boost to lift it out of the water, such as a balloon filled with air.
The crowbar can crack open crates, crikey!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dictionary
Spanish/English dictionary, very boring, but with a few useful phrases. Found
in the Cheapflik Studios store room. You can make use of that when speaking
to foreigners, e.g. Cubans.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dollars
You start the game with $100 and this amount will change depending on what you
buy. Once you get the TrEx card you will only need to use it for tips for the
doorman at the foyer of Cheapfliks Studios, and possibly not even that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
esc
Brazilian currency, exchanged at the bank in the HyperMall. Used for nothing
as it seems, although you may need to have it for some reason I have not
thought of, i.e. the game would not let you advance without it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hammer
Found inside the cemetery crypt. Used on the statuette in the Brazilian prison
to retrieve a slimy pupa.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HK$
Hong Kong currency, exchanged at the bank in the HyperMall. Used for nothing
as it seems, although you may need to have it for some reason I have not
thought of, i.e. the game would not let you advance without it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
House Key.
Found on Bela Lugosi's body in the cemetery crypt. Unlocks the house at Vlad
The Impaler St. (Bela Lugosi's residence).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key
Found inside the desk in the producer's office. It opens up the door to the
Editing Room. You do not really need this for anything but watch the film
reels you have collected, in other words, it is optional to take.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Love Beads
A string of love beads used as inexpensive jewelry in the 60s, thus you can
find this in cheap studio store rooms like Cheapflik's. Given to the hippie
chick at the Sydney beach for her to show you the hippy commune nearby.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Netsuke
Something the movie mogul from Hong Kong has lost and wants it back. Once you
do, he will give you a great present.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note
Found inside the Scary Mask when examined. It reads 'Fangs for the memory".
Not useful for anything as far as I know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Passport
It is your passport. You start out with this. You only need it to take a
photocopy to get a photograph of yourself, though the game may not let you
travel on the plane without one (I have never tried, I kind of doubt it).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Photo
A rather gnarly copy of your passport photograph. Made at the hardware store
inside the HyperMall. Used in conjunction of the Pilot ID to make it seem like
you are really the pilot and thus you fly for free.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Photograph
It is a photo of Bela Lugosi playing Dracula found in the study of his home.
With this in your possession, the bats in the cave in Rio will leave you alone
and just admire their 'hero'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pilot ID
Left by S. Peters one his last visit to Rio. It is found in Room 21 in the
hotel in Rio. Replacing the photo with yours will enable you to fly around the
world (or just the available destinations) for free.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Poster
Given to you in Cuba. It is a poster of Fidel Castro. These comedy beards seem
to be all the rage these days. Part of your mission for the CIA.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Room Key
It's the key to the room of the hotel in Rio. You only get this once you book
the room with the receptionist and it is only used for getting into this room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rum
It bears a label 'Hair Of The Pit Bull'. Jamaica? No, she did it by herself.
You can buy this bottle from the bartender at The Hub Cap. Given to the prison
guard in the Brazilian jail for him to leave.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scary Mask
Bought at the Lycanthropository on the 2nd floor of the HyperMall. It contains
a small key and a note.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scuba Gear
Stashed in your house at Aviation Way. Used once you take a dive at the Sydney
harbor else you drown.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slimy Pupa
Found after smashing the statuette the prison guard left behind in the
Brazilian jail once you give him the rum. Given to the curator at the
Smithsonian (Washington) for him to leave you alone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Small Key
Found inside the Scary Mask when examined. Opens up the safety deposit box at
the bank on the sixth floor of the HyperMall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spade
A common garden shovel, purchased at the hardware store at the HyperMall. It
is used to dig up the grave at the cemetery.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talisman
A sacred ancient Buddhist talisman. Given to you by the movie mogul after you
return his Netsuke. You have to give this to the monks in China and they will
enable you to see the aliens.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ticket
It's an airline ticket for Rio. Booked at the travel agent at the HyperMall.
Given to the representative at the airport to travel there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TrEx Card
This is a Transylvanian press Gold Card. It has the number '350143' scrawled
on the back in pencil. You find this when pushing a trophy in the study of
Bela Lugosi's home. Pays for several things instead of using your hard-earned,
as well as limited, cash.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
US$
US currency, "exchanged" at the bank in the HyperMall. Used for nothing as it
seems, although you may need to have it for some reason I have not thought of,
i.e. the game would not let you advance without it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05.)                    FAQ                                          G0500
===============================================================================

Q: The producer asks me for a 'woid'?
A: He means "word", and it is the word on whatever page and at whatever
paragraph/line he says in your manual. Do not have a manual? Hmmm...although
this game is unofficially "abandonware", I still recommend you try to
actually buy it. Try second-hand sources. Nevertheless, I have used the
manual to introduce the game, thus if you are patient enough to restart the
game a lot then you may still be able to find your 'woid'.

Q: What is the deal with the film reels?
A: They are yours to collect as part of the quest. You can also watch the reels
in certain locations, such as the Editing Room at the studio, the projection
room in the hotel in Rio, or the cinema on the 4th floor at the HyperMall.

Q: I cannot carry any more things?
A: There is a limit on your inventory. Simply drop things on the floor if you
do not need them any longer, you can always get them back at the
Lycanthropository later. However, you may still want to drop stuff you
really do not need any more to save you time having to retrieve them.
You could try to "search" through the walkthrough if the item is ever
mentioned again, although it could spoil something for you. I have tried to
ensure the walkthrough drops enough items to always have enough inventory
space, else I wish you could help me out to fix this by sending a mail.
