01.) INTRODUCTION G0100

Welcome to 'Pia Carrot e Youkoso!!' for the PC-FX, released by Cocktail Soft in
1997.

"Pia Carrot e Youkoso!!", or "Welcome to Pia Carrot" as it is often referred to
outside of Japan, is a dating simulator that has become a fairly common genre
since its release. It was first released on the PC and then ported to the PC-FX
and later also released on the Sega Saturn. All games were only released in
Japan but thanks to the translation/hacking force of David Michel and Filler
you can also enjoy a fully translated game.

In short, you can use this guide for the translated PC-FX game as well as
the untranslated if you are willing to map the English from the guide to the
Japanese used in the game. That means you can also use the almost-identical
PC version to get through, as well all scenarions on the Saturn but the new
one they added (1 extra girl).

This walkthrough contains both Japanese and English but you will not need to
know any Japanese to understand it. It is entirely optional as long as you
have the English translation of the game.

However, the walkthrough does feature Shift-JIS encoding to display Japanese
characters. If you only see jumbled characters, squares or question marks then
you will need to set your browser's or text editor's encoding manually. If you
do not care to read the Japanese text then you are fine with not bothering with
that.

02.) BASICS G0200
===============================================================================

After you switch on the PC-FX with the game inside you will be greeted with a
skippable intro video. Afterwards you will be taken straight to the main menu.

Begin by entering your name and confirming your entry. Pick one of the
uniforms (they affect CG unlocking, otherwise just for your personal
preference). You can then choose to watch or skip the prologue.

Gameplay:

For each new game, your ultimate goal is to date one of the girls available in
the game. If you fail to win one over you will only get a general ending which
should not satisfy you at all. Some people prolong the game by unlocking all
the CG the game has to offer, others just want to get the good endings for all
girls.

To win over the girls you must not only plan to meet girls at certain times
but also reject other activities in order to make this happen. Ultimately you
will also need to have reached certain statistics for your character.

Your character has six stats which will accumulate during the game:
-Style
-Kindness
-Guts
-Academics
-Communications
-Notoriety

You also have an Energy meter which is reduced by working and going out
(basically doing activities like you would in real life). You can only raise
this by taking an extra rest (aside from the regular sleep/rest). If you run
out of Energy your character will automatically take a rest and skip giving you
the option to do anything else including going to work. This has a big impact
on your workflow so take care not to let this run too low by mistake. You also
gain a notoriety point for ditching work!

These are the minimum requirements for each character. Energy is not required
to be kept up for winning over a girl. Notoriety must be less than the stated
number. For each girl there are the following requirements to win them over:

Usually these stats are increased by your job but also your interactions with
people will affect them. Other activities also increase your stats such as
studying increases your Academics by half a point and resting greatly refills
your Energy meter. You can also pick up items to increase ratings (mainly for
Style).

Each day is divided into three parts: morning, afternoon and evening. Not all
days let you choose something to do for each part but for the most part that is
how it will go. Your character gets up at 9AM and you can do an activity. For
example, you can study all morning, rest or call somebody. At lunchtime you
will automatically go to work unless it is your day off in which case you have
an option for an afternoon activity. After work you may choose to talk to
somebody before you go home. At work you also have a break from 5PM to 6PM
which is either used up by talking to somebody (you do not have a choice in
that but it depends on the job you chose who might show up here!) or nothing
will happen at all.

It's pushing the deadline a bit, but I'll consider it carefully over summer
break and make a decision to either go to college or take over my Dad's

日夜、大学受験にいそしみ、将来を有望視されている受験戦士だ。
というのはすっごい建て前で、実はいまだ卒業後の進路が保留になっていて大学へ進学

というのも親父が卒業したら家業を継がせようとしてるからで、でも、安易に自分の進
路を決めるのも釈然としない。
それに親父の経営するお店には、ぜんぜん興味ないし・・・。
とりあえずは夏休みの間じっくり考えてみて答えを出そうと思う。大学へ進むか家業を

05.) RUMI'S TIPS G0500

Once in a while Rumi comes to sell you some information. You can just say "Not
interested." If you pay her she will give you tips on how to score with a girl,
usually the one that is currently your target (as in, has most of your focus
from the game's perspective). These tips are useful but there are not so many
of them.

*I heard, Yukiko likes gentle guys. It seems like she's not as worried about
appearances an stuff! But, she said it's good if they know how to study!

*You know, Shiho's really smart. So, her partner would probably have to be at
least as smart as her! Also, Tuesday is her day off but she goes to the
restaurant often. You might meet her if you happen to be outside!

*Hm-, well-...you talk to Kaori but the conversation never really changes, so
you have to-...heh-heh, the rest is a secret.

*I don't know why but, Satomi said that on lunch breaks she frequently hangs
out in the kitchen! What if you tried doing something related to cooking too?
I don't think Satomi will come around unless you're nice to Shouko!

*It may look like Reika's used to fooling around, but that doesn't seem to be
the case. Also, her partner has to have a nice appearance!

*Do you remember going on trips with Kiyomi? I'd like to all go on a trip
together this summer! You know, Shiho said she probably won't go on the trip
this year! Satomi and Shouko said they were definitely going!

*Earlier, Yukiko was walking in front of the station with a guy I didn't know.
They looked like they get along, I wonder if they're going out?

*You know, I asked Yukiko what her hobbies were and she wouldn't tell me! One
time, I saw the dish-washing lady's daughter, but they don't resemble each
other at all!

*You know Satomi, she likes carrots a lot! Since Shouko doesn't like carrots, I
wonder if there is some connection?

06.) GIRLS' WORK SCHEDULES G0600

All girls have a fixed schedule of where and what they will work. One must plan
accordingly if wanting to fix up "dates" and meetings between the characters.
If you do not see a character because you were working in the wrong place you
might miss your chance to date that girl in the future! You also want to make
sure you have Energy for a day off with the girl and not automatically rest
from exhaustion.

You do not work on the first day and everyone goes on vacation on the 24th of
August.

Actually I am not sure how to enter Debug mode, but I do know the controls
within:

If you want to look at CG to start with set pad 1's mode 1 and mode 2 switch to
A. When that's done "GRP" will appear in the upper left of the screen, and a
numeral will appear on the right. This is the CG number which you can change by
pressing the cross-button left and right, or up and down. When you get to the
number you want press the 1 button.

BGM:

Next is the BGM test. The same as with the CG, set pad 1's mode 1 and 2 switch
to A. When that's done "BGM" will appear in the upper left of the screen, and a
numeral will appear on the right. This is the BGM number which you can change
by pressing the cross-button left and right while holding the 6 button. When
you get to the number you want to hear, press the 1 button.

Sound Test:

First set pad 1's mode 1 to A, and mode 2 switch to B. When you do, it will say
"ADP" in the center of the screen, and a number will appear on the right. This
number can be changed by pressing the cross key up and down, and left and
right. You can fast forward by holding the 2 button while pressing up and down
on the cross key. Oh that's right! If you want to stop in the middle press the
2 button.

FMV:

Change pad 1's mode 1 to B, change the mode 2 switch to A. When you do "MOVIE"
will appear in the middle of the screen, and a number will appear on the right.
This movie number can be changed by moving the cross key left and right. Also
if you want to stop half-way press the 2 button. And if you push the run button
during playback you can pause the movie, but-... Press the 1 button to frame
advance, and if you press the 6 button you can play back only the part where
the button was pressed. Also if you want to make something like the movie
number go away press the SELECT button.

XX.) FAQ GXX00
===============================================================================

Q: How can I unlock all the CG?
A: Finish all girls' scenarios with all three costumes if applicable

Q: How come I am missing some CG?
A: You have to play each girl's scenario with different costumes. Not all girls
require you to finish with all costume's so if a girl's CG is complete then
you do not need to go through her scenario again. This applies to all girls
working at the Pia Carrot.

Q) Got any more tips for the missing CG?
A) Remember the week that Shiho asks you to work in the stockroom? Normally, if
you work back there that week, there will be 2 days where you get a scene
during your break in which the light goes out. Well, if you've been pursuing
Shouko, on a 3rd day in the stockroom that week, she'll show up during your
break, the lights will go out again, and when they come back on, you'll get
a special scene with her. I got it on 8/11, which should be the earliest
it's possible, but I'm guessing you can get it later that week too if you
don't start the work week with 3 straight days of stockman work. It's not
necessary to purely focus on Shouko, as I got the scene while also going
after Reika. Also, since it's during work, there are three versions of the
scene, one for each uniform.

Q: Some girls in the CG are grayed out in the menu?
A: It will unlock as you go through the scenarios. Just keep playing and you
will see.

Q: Rumi comes to talk to me about some information, and she wants money?
A: If Rumi ever comes to sell you some information just say "Not interested."
If you pay her she will give you tips on how to score with a girl, usually
the one that is currently your target (as in, has most of your focus from
the game's perspective). For example, if you are mainly spending time with
Yukiko then she might drop you this hint:
"I heard, Yukiko likes gentle guys. It seems like she's not as worried about
appearances an stuff!"
which would tell that you do not need many points in appearance to win her
over. These kind of hint are already compiled into the walkthrough so you
would not have to worry about it unless you play without on. In that case
they are super valuable!!

Q: Is this one of "those" hentai games?
A: If by "those" you mean Bishoujo game (lit. "beautiful young girl") then yes,
but compared to other games on the market this is rather mild and focuses
more on dating rather than dirty language and explicit scenes. It is still
contained in the game but is a rather small percentage of what the game has
to offer.

Q: Is this censored?
A: No, but you do not actually see too much of it. Most of the game is hentai
art, the few sexual acts performed are rather mild to what is "out there".
Still, this got an 18 rating in Japan and is NOT FOR KIDS!!

Q: What is the difference between the other versions out there?
A: There are currently three releases of the original game and there most
likely never will be a true port again in the future.

The PC was the first release and is uncensored but does not feature the
videos according to what I have heard.

The Saturn port came much later and added an extra girl but removed all the
dirty parts. The best you get is some panty shots. It is still a great port
since most of the game is about dating and romance anyway.

Q: Can I skip the FMVs?
A: Usually you can skip them by pressing the Run button but some cannot be
skipped, for example the small clip after you select the type of uniform the
girls wear.

Q: How do I play this game in English? Help me with some technical stuff
please.
A: Sorry I cannot do that. There are far better places on the Net to help you
out with that kind of stuff.

Q: Where is the Daisuke walkthrough? (G04A0)
A: So you saw this on the TOC or just browsed down here... there is no Daisuke
walkthrough, sorry, it's a joke entry by me.. .hehe. You want to date with
him then you have the wrong game.
