Mass Effect 3 Resources Guide
Author: Timothy Porn
Introduction
Resource scanning in Mass Effect 3 is more streamlined than in Mass
Effect 2, since the scanner allows for a large region to be scanned all
at once. However, use of the scanner will attract Reaper attention. In
general, you can scan 3 times before Reapers come to that system. Once
they are there, you must complete a mission before they leave the
system. It should be noted that the Reapers will chase after you, but
you can escape them most of the time. However, if they catch you then a
critical mission failure will occur, which can be advantageous if you
want to find resources and then reset the star system to when you flew
in and then scan only the points of interest. This guide lists all
known resources in each system. Note that some systems will not be
available until Priority missions are completed.
How to use this guide
This guide is set up so that clusters are the main division and then for
each cluster the systems in it make up the next division. Under systems
are the planet or general area of the system that resources are to be
found. All clock positions are based on the idea that 12 o'clock is the
top center of the screen if the Normandy is located at the center of the
system. If a scannable planet has a resource tied to a mission, the
mission will be listed as well as the contact for the mission. All
clock position references have fuel units at the location. The clusters
are listed in order that they come available for exploration.
Notes on resource system
When fuel is found as a resource it will be used up regardless of the
amount you have with 1000 being the maximum, i.e. you have 1000 units
and find 750 units, you gain 0 units and the resource is used up.
Fuel resources can be located by flying the Normandy over the location
which remains invisible until scanned. When the Normandy is over the
location, the same sound that is made when you fly over a planet is
made.
If you find an artifact before receiving the mission, the mission will
be added automatically, but will just note that you should find someone
on the Citadel that can use the it. If you bring up the map, it will
list and show the general area for a contact for a resource even if you
have not met them previously.
Once a planet is found to have a resource, you can enter scanning mode
and follow the white line on the reticle until you find a large white
dot. Once that is found, place the reticle over the white dot and
launch a probe to find the resource.
There are five resource types: Intel, War Assets, Artifacts, Salvage,
and fuel. Intel is usable at the Shadow Broker terminal in Liara's
Cabin on the Normandy and provides upgrades in the form of 5% increase
in weapon damage, power damage, extra ammo, etc. War Assets add to your
military resources and effective military strength. Artifacts are used
to complete missions on the Citadel where a NPC is looking for something
and will often have an effect on your military resources and effective
military strength. Salvage is always in the form of 10000 credits.
Last, fuel is used to power the Normandy's engines when traveling
between systems in the same cluster.

Please feel free to let me know about preferred listing information if
you contact me with updates or clarification to this guide.
Nathan Friesen: for noting that systems are reset after the critical
mission failure tht occurs after the Normandy is caught by the Reapers.
Mark Eubanks: for reminding me about some resources that were missing in
version 1.0 of this faq, which was incomplete.
Alisu: for noting that invisible locations, i.e. fuel resources, are
able to be located by listening for the sound that they make when you
fly over the location, which is the same sound that is made when you fly
over a planet.
Kit Ryuu: for noting that there were unlisted resources in Kite's Nest,
in the Untrel system.
Version history
1.0 Upon review of the guide I found one fuel resource I forgot to
note the amount in the Aethon Cluster, Satu Arrd system. I could not
find a save that in which I had not already got it. As I did not want
to play through again just to clear this up I am leaving it as is.
Unfortunately, unlike the previous games in the series, the galaxy map
is not open from the beginning of the game, which makes it more time
consuming to check, as it would require another few hours to open the
system. Should anyone find discrepancies please feel free to
contact me and I will revise the guide.
1.1 I accidentally uploaded an incomplete version of this guide.
Formatting has been cleaned up a bit to enhance readability.
1.2 Added Neoseeker as an authorized host. Minor changes to grammar
and editing.
1.3 Added information concerning resetting a star system to the point
that the Normandy flew in by being caught by the Reapers. Added
information concerning locating fuel resources by sound. Added a
contribution section.
1.4 Added missing information concerning resources in Kite's Nest.
