*******************************************************************************
If you completed Grand Theft Auto IV once, you probably spent a great deal of
time absorbing the magnificent story, scenery, and gameplay. Therefore, it
might be true that you missed the "Liberty City Minute" achievement/trophy.
Alternatively, you may want to see how low of a completion percentage you can
get on your next playthrough. If so, this guide is for you!
I love this game, and I have my ways of playing each mission; however, I am not
naïve enough to think my ways are the best ways. This guide purposefully omits
details about the missions themselves in favor of allowing you to play the game
the way you want to play it.
Also, to be clear, this guide only includes the exact number of missions needed
to make the credits roll. Please see Section V for specific statistics and
other notes.
The goal? Have fun! (And nab that achievement/trophy!)
This section is dedicated specifically to those of you attempting the "Liberty
City Minute." To get this achievement/trophy, you will need to complete the
main story in under 20 hours. This is pretty easy to do, especially if this is
not the first time you have played through the game. Best of luck!
- BE SMART: If you're low on health, catch a cab to a safehouse or
reload your game and rest.
- CATCH CABS: Whenever you're on foot and need to get somewhere, catch
a cab. If you’re not near a road after completing a mission, reload
your game and catch one near your safehouse. This may be more difficult
in the very beginning when you’re strapped for cash. The exception to
catching cabs, of course, is when a part of a mission will require you
to drive.
- PASS TIME: If you are waiting for a call/text from someone important
and are not receiving it, call them directly. If this does not work,
rest and walk around the street outside your safehouse a bit. If this
still doesn't work, rinse and repeat.
- SWITCH IT: There are many, many different orders of playing these
missions. If you want to complete them in a different order than the
one listed in the guide, feel free!
- RAID 'EM: Collect ammo from dead people as often as possible, as you
will not be visiting a gun store.
- SAVE, PLEASE: Yes, the auto-save function should be your main save
file. Sometimes, though, it may be wise to save a permanent file.
- DON'T DIE: Ha! O.K., to be more realistic, I highly recommend
reloading after dying.
- NO FRIENDS: Ignore absolutely every friend and side-quest.
- SKIP IT: Skip every cutscene and phone conversation.
As stated, there are many orders in which these missions can be completed. The
recommended order below is quick and thorough, leaving no essential stone
unturned. Best of luck!
1. ROMAN: The Cousins Bellic
2. ROMAN: It’s Your Call
* Call or rest repeatedly until Roman texts you to trigger the
next mission.
3. ROMAN: Three’s a Crowd
MISSION NOTE: Buy jeans to end the clothes shopping.
* Michelle will call you; her icon will appear.
* Roman will call shortly thereafter, and you will be required
to help him out of a jam. Do this before visiting Michelle.
4. ROMAN: Bleed Out
5. MICHELLE: First Date
MISSION NOTE: Pick up the Molotov cocktails under the last overhang
before the bowling alley.
6. ROMAN: Easy Fare
7. ROMAN: Jamaican Heat
* Vlad will call shortly after you speak with Roman. This will
trigger his mission.
8. VLAD: Bull in a China Shop
* Rest at your safehouse, and Vlad will text you soon to
trigger the next mission.
9. VLAD: Hung Out to Dry
10. VLAD: Clean Getaway
11. VLAD: Ivan the Not So Terrible
MISSION NOTE: You can either let Ivan live or let him fall. It doesn’t
matter! (Although, Ivan might not feel so hot if you drop him.) :)
* After this mission, call Roman (as a regular call, not as an
activity). If this does not work, reload your game and sleep.
Roman will call shortly thereafter. If he asks to hang out, say
no and call him back. He’ll say something about helping out
with the family business. After this call, his icon will appear
and trigger the next mission.
* Alternatively, you may get a call from Little Jacob. Ignore
his mission, for now.
12. ROMAN: Uncle Vlad
* Call Roman afterward to trigger his mission.
13. ROMAN: Crime and Punishment
* Little Jacob’s mission should have been triggered by now. You
can still ignore it, or you can choose to tackle it now instead
of later. Only the first of his two missions will be available
at this point, though, so I would recommend waiting.
* Rest up, and Roman will eventually call to tell you he’s been
shot, triggering the next mission.
14. FAUSTIN: Do You Have Protection?
15. FAUSTIN: Final Destination
* Roman will text you, which will activate his mission. Avoid
it for now.
16. FAUSTIN: No Love Lost
* Choose to do Roman’s mission next.
17. ROMAN: Logging On
* Roman will call you about Brucie’s exports. Ignore it, as
this is not necessary.
18. FAUSTIN: Rigged to Blow
* Call Roman or go to sleep until he calls you about meeting
Brucie. After the phone call, both Brucie and Dimitri will
appear as missions. Head to Dimitri.
19. DIMITRI: The Master and the Molotov
MISSION NOTE: Don’t forget about answering Dimitri’s text and
retrieving the body armor.
* After this mission, you will have to decide between Little
Jacob and Brucie. If you have not already completed Little
Jacob’s missions, choose Jacob.
20. LITTLE JACOB: Concrete Jungle
21. LITTLE JACOB: Shadow
* You will get a call from Little Jacob. Afterward, a message
will appear telling you to either contact Dimitri or wait for
him to contact you. Call Dimitri to automatically trigger the
next mission.
22. DIMITRI: Russian Revolution
MISSION NOTE: Your Molotovs may come in handy during the warehouse
escape.
* You will then be instructed to call Roman. This will
automatically trigger the next mission.
23. ROMAN: Roman’s Sorrow
* Keep ignoring Brucie and take Manny’s missions.
24. MANNY: Escuela of the Streets
25. MANNY: Street Sweeper
* Call Mallorie to trigger Elizabeta’s mission.
26/27. ELIZABETA: Luck of the Irish
MISSION NOTE: The game counts this mission as two missions, for some
strange reason.
28. ELIZABETA: Blow Your Cover
* Hit Brucie’s mission next.
* Playboy may text you at some point, but just ignore his
mission for now.
29. BRUCIE: Search and Delete
30. BRUCIE: Easy as Can Be
31. BRUCIE: Out of the Closet (Part I Only)
* After exiting the café, Manny’s icon will reappear. Forget
about French Tom and Brucie altogether.
* It may help to hijack a helicopter at Helitours for this next
mission.
32. MANNY: The Puerto Rican Connection
* Playboy X should be the last icon on your screen.
* While you’re out and about, you will receive a text from an
Unknown Contact. Ignore him for now.
35. ELIZABETA: The Snow Storm
36. ELIZABETA: Have a Heart
* Go to the first Unknown Contact (Francis McReary). Michelle
will call and become your second Unknown Contact. Playboy will
call and make Dwayne’s icon appear, as well. Permanently ignore
Dwayne, but remember that Michelle’s missions (U.L.P.C.) need
to be completed at some point. Feel free to tackle those
whenever you want. In the meantime, go to Francis. (Mallorie
may call in a panic, occasionally.)
37. FRANCIS: Call and Collect
* Packie will call soon, producing his icon. Ignore Francis,
and hit up Packie.
38. PACKIE: Harboring a Grudge
39: PACKIE: Waste Not Want Knots
* Go to Perseus and get your suit for Packie's next mission.
* Three things happen: Packie will text you, Ray will call, and
Mallorie will finally tell you that Roman has been kidnapped.
You can speed things up by resting. Obviously, we know which of
those three takes priority. :)
* Ignore the prospect of dating Katie, of course.
40. ROMAN: Hostile Negotiation
* Roman will call you at some point about the new safehouse in
Algonquin.
41. PACKIE: Three Leaf Clover
* At some point, you will get calls that prompt both Gerry and
Derrick McReary’s icons. You are welcome to knock off some
McReary missions at any point here, as that narrative runs
parallel to the mob's storyline.
* Feel free to plow through Ray's missions now, as you will
need to complete them anyway.
42. RAY: A Long Way to Fall
43. RAY: Taking in the Trash
44. RAY: Meltdown
45. RAY: Museum Piece
46. RAY: No Way on the Subway
47. RAY: Late Checkout
* Rest up until Ray texts you about Phil Bell, or hit a McReary
mission to pass the time.
48. PHIL: Truck Hustle
* Phil prompts the assassination missions, but of course, they
should be permanently ignored.
* Reload and sleep until Phil calls about Jimmy Pegorino.
* Change back into your suit, if you haven’t already done so,
then go to Jimmy.
49. JIMMY: Pegorino’s Pride
* Reload and sleep until Jimmy texts you.
50. JIMMY: Payback
MISSION NOTE: If you’re going for a lowest percentage run, avoid the
Stunt Jump during the chase.
51. PHIL: Catch the Wave
* Both Jimmy and Phil will reappear on the map. Choose Jimmy
first.
52. JIMMY: Flatline
53. PHIL: Trespass
54. PHIL: To Live and Die in Alderney
* If you haven’t done any McReary missions, you should now have
three McReary icons on your map. Michelle can still be ignored
at this point. You’ll have to complete all three of the
McRearys’s missions, so visit Francis first.
55/56. FRANCIS: Final Interview (Part I & II)
MISSION NOTE: During the intermission, you should reload and change
back into your suit, if you have not already done so.
57. FRANCIS: Holland Nights
MISSION NOTE: I always like sniping Clarence from down the street. :)
58. FRANCIS: Lure
59. GERRY: Actions Speak Louder than Words
60. GERRY: I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, and Your Motorcycle
61. DERRICK: Smackdown
MISSION NOTE: Armor is always near Derrick’s location, behind the wall
where the cop car is, in the back of the station.
* Reload and rest until three things happen: Derrick’s icon
reappears, Ray texts you about your new safehouse in Alderney,
and Ray calls to automatically activate the next mission.
62. NIKO: Weekend at Florian’s
* You can now wrap up the McReary narrative.
63. DERRICK: Babysitting
64. DERRICK: Tunnel of Death
* Reload and rest. It may take Francis a couple of rests to
text you.
65. FRANCIS: Blood Brothers
MISSION NOTE: Kill one of the brothers. Again, your choice doesn’t
matter. (However, if you kill Derrick, Francis will be able to get the
cops off your back in the future. This decision is a little unpopular,
though.) :)
* Reload and rest a few times. Three more things will happen:
Bernie will call, Ray will text, and finally, Packie will call
and automatically put you in the next mission.
* If you aren’t back in your suit already, get in it now.
66. PACKIE: Undertaker
* Get to Jimmy.
* Alternatively, feel free to knock out Bernie’s missions at
any point, as these will need to be completed.
67/68. JIMMY: Pest Control (Part I & II)
MISSION NOTE: The first part is literally just a cutscene.
MISSION NOTE: Reload and rest for a while after the first part. Jimmy
will eventually call and automatically continue the mission.
* While you were resting, Gerry likely called from jail,
prompting his icon to reappear. Deal with his mission next.
69/70. GERRY: I’ll Take Her (Part I & II)
* Call Packie or rest up until he calls to trigger the next
mission.
71. NIKO: Ransom
* Call Packie or rest up until he calls to trigger the next
mission.
72. GERRY: She’s a Keeper
73. GERRY: Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend
* Time to take care of Bernie's missions if you haven’t
already done so.
74. BERNIE: Hating the Haters
75. BERNIE: Union Drive
* Reload and rest until Bernie texts you.
76. BERNIE: Buoys Ahoy
MISSION NOTE: If you’re going for the lowest percentage, avoid the
Stunt Jumps in the river.
* Bernie will call later in the game and offer you Bryce’s
Infernus. Permanently ignore it.
* Finally, tackle Michelle’s mission (the Unknown Contact).
77. U.L.P.C.: Wrong Is Right
78. U.L.P.C.: Portrait of a Killer
* You’ll get a call from the U.L.P.C. employee, which will
activate Jon’s mission. Feel free to hit these at any time, as
they need to be completed.
79. U.L.P.C.: Dust Off
MISSION NOTE: I highly recommend taking a helicopter for this mission.
* Eventually, the U.L.P.C. employee will call and tell you he
will be in touch. Then, after some time (a few rests), you will
be automatically thrown into the next mission.
80. U.L.P.C.: Paper Trail
* Time to complete Jon’s missions, if you haven’t already.
81. JON: Entourage
82. JON: Dining Out
83. JON: Liquidize the Assets
* You will have to rest a few times before the U.L.P.C.
employee calls. In the meantime, Mallorie, Roman, Brucie, and
Kate will call. When the employee does finally call, the next
mission will be automatically triggered.
84. NIKO: That Special Someone
* Bernie will call shortly after you drop off Roman, and
Jimmy’s call won’t be too far behind.
85. JIMMY: One Last Thing
* Both Roman and Kate will call before you can choose an
option.
* Realistically, taking the deal will be much quicker than the
revenge option. The firefight in the warehouse is infinitely
easier and faster than the battle on the boat. Taking this
path, of course, leads to the saddest ending.
86. NIKO: If the Price Is Right
* Roman will call, followed by Jimmy and Kate.
87. NIKO: Mr. & Mrs. Bellic
* Little Jacob will text you. Call him to activate the final
mission.

Upon finishing the final mission, your stats will say you have completed 56.51%
of the game and 88 missions. These are the lowest possible numbers at the end
of the game.
If anyone can achieve lower numbers, please contact me! I need two things to
verify your claim:
1. A confirmation of which mission(s) in the list above that you did not have
to play.
2. A picture of your stats.
Grand Theft Auto IV - and really, almost every GTA game - is a masterpiece.
This one, specifically, continues to amaze me. Driving through New York City in
real life now only makes me want to do one thing: Crank "New York Groove" and
rock out! :)
