Your goal in this game is simple, yet subtly immersive as well. You are a
mechanic, and you have money to make and customers to please by repairing their
vehicles. How to do this? Use the tools in your garage, of course!
When you start the game for the first time, you have an empty garage with
two lifts, and a basic garage. You have the basic tools to get the job done,
but not much in the way of diagnostic tools beyond your eyeballs and basic
knowledge. As you gain experience, you gain access to better diagnostic tools
and parts repair abilities.
Movement is done by using WASD keys, as in most games. However, your view
is controlled by the mouse, which is much more accurate than trying to use the
keyboard for zooming in or out. Think of it as a first person shooter style
movement and you'll have much better luck adapting.
To start with, your phone will ring with your first customer. Don't worry
about missing the call; the phone will hold 4 orders for you to choose from.
Turn around, and there's the desk. You will see a camera - which will come in
handy in a few hours, a phone, and a computer that you can interact with. Go
ahead and look around the garage for a moment first, and get an idea of where
things are.
To the left of the desk, is a customer seating area. As you gain more
experience, you can upgrade the looks of your garage by spending upgrade
points. These make no difference on your repair payments, so are entirely up
to you, and I'd recommend doing them last, after you have all your tool and
repair upgrades. Continuing to the left, you will see an oil catch pan. This
will come in handy when doing those oil changes, or draining the oil before
removing the oil pan - it's a $100 cleanup fine every time you drop oil on the
floor. Ouch!
Next up, you have access to two large garage doors, both saying "Exit"
when you hover your view on them. These give you access to a couple of
important spots. First off, your test drive area. This is where you'll get
your basic diagnostics from before you open up the rest of your tools. Next,
the Auction Center, which opens up after you get your parking garage (!). At
the bottom, you can find any areas that you have loaded that were made by
players and shared with you. Near the top, you may have access to a Drag Strip
as well - what's YOUR best time down the strip?
Back in the garage, the next interesting part is the repair bench. This
will come in handy as you get more experience and unlock better repair skills,
as each rank of repair skills increases your chance to succeed, to a max of 90%
success rate. Some parts are just too far gone, right? Repairing parts
doesn't cost you any money that I'm aware of, and it will save you money when
it comes to rebuilding vehicles for the Auction, maximizing your profits.
Next up, there is a door in the corner, taped off. This is the entrance
to your Parking Garage, which you will unlock the ability to purchase when you
reach 9,000 xp. Once you have this, you can start making more money by buying
used vehicles, rebuilding them to your satisfaction, and then selling them
again - or if you really like it, keep it for yourself.
Counting Cars, anyone?
Anyway, continuing on. On the hand truck, next to the tire balancing
station that we can't use, is the body frame repair tool. Once you have the
max repair level unlocked, you can use this. In the next corner, the door to
the Dyno is here. You can do a test run with vehicles to see their best
horsepower when you get it, and if you do any performance upgrades, check the
horsepower again and see the rewards of your efforts. You can even tune it up
in here too.
The next door you'll see is the test path, which you can unlock when you
reach 2,500 xp, and purchase with $15,000. The test path helps to diagnose
brake and suspension issues, much better than the test drive does. Then comes
the paint booth, which unlocks at 5,000 xp, with the low purchase price of only
$10,000! Now you'll be able to repaint vehicles to their stock color, or create
your own when you're rebuilding for auction.
Finally, scattered around the room are several tool boxes. These are
where you get your repair upgrades - diagnostic tools, better repair abilities,
and faster actions. Each upgrade costs 1 upgrade point, and you get 1 point
for every 1,000 xp you gain. You can also snag the tablet here, which will end
up saving you a lot of wear on your tires - I mean shoes. The tablet gives you
all the functions of the computer at your fingertips. The OBD2 scanner works
on newer vehicles, and helps diagnose most parts that need attention in the
motor or exhaust systems. The compression tester checks the internals of the
motor, so you don't necessarily have to rip the motor apart to find that it was
the spark plug that was bad, not the cracked piston you thought it was. The
electrical tester helps track down faulty electrical parts.
Now that you've got the basic layout of the place, let's start making some
money!

*******************************************************************************
--Your phone will hold 4 repair requests for you. You can decline them
with no penalty. This will load another random repair request for you.
HOWEVER - soon after you start gaining experience, you will start to see
requests with xp requirements on them. Even if you decline them, a different
one with an xp requirement will cycle in. Your best bet is to simply work on
the other two that will not have the xp requirement, until one of the xp
requirement jobs unlocks. Then you can do it, and a different one will come
in, with a much higher xp requirement. This gives you something to look
forward to!
--You can get a one-time only, no repayment required loan from the bank
for $2,000 by accessing your computer. This can come in handy if you've
accidentally bought the wrong parts and tapped your bank account.
--You can search for parts directly when you are in the parts store of
your computer. Just use the...never mind, you already found the search bar.
Same goes for the model of your vehicle in the body parts store.
--Suspension parts are known as 'running gear' parts in the game.
--You do NOT get paid for repairing or upgrading any parts that were not
in your repair request. Stick to what they asked for, and stop giving away
your money!
--Double check the oil level after adding oil. If the level is not over
half full on the dipstick, you're not done yet. (I typically count off four
seconds once the pour slows down.)
--If you have the extra mods that people have made for this game, you may
have more vehicles types to repair, and you may have other parts options to
choose from when making your repairs, notably the Tuner's Shop and the
Performance Shop. The Tuner's Shop deals with body parts, while the
Performance shop is all about boosting the horsepower, at a higher price. Note
that while customers will pay for the HP boost, they will not accept the body
part upgrades. (But Jim, those taillights looks so much better!)
--Some parts can only have their condition found by removing them from the
vehicle. Check your repair orders often.
--Speaking of parts, after every couple of vehicles, I recommend visiting
the repair bench. Figure out which parts you will have a chance to repair, and
sell the rest from your inventory. Keep the other items until you have
upgraded your repair chance, then get to crackin'!
--Once you start getting repair requests that include body parts (on the
vehicle, we're not doctors here), be careful to note whether you are requested
to paint the vehicle a specific color. Do not take these orders if you have
not unlocked the paint booth, as you will be unable to complete the job
otherwise, and will only get a partial repair payment.
--The lift will not lower if you've left tools - or yourself - under it
when you try to operate it. Something about liability...where's your help,
anyway?
--You can actually access all the parts for removal and replacement
without leaving the control box of the lift. Simply focus on a part nearer to
where you want to work, repeating until you get where you want to be. When you
finish and hit 'ESC', you'll be standing right where you started.
--If a part won't come off, something else needs to be removed first.
Check for any parts highlighted red to find what needs to go.
--If some of the parts you removed from past jobs are of decent enough
level, keep them around. I typically keep parts that are 70% or better. A
future job might need that same part, and won't mind if it isn't perfectly new
when it goes in the vehicle. You won't gain the money for selling the part,
but you won't have to buy a new one, either.
--Once you open up the Auctions, remember to keep at least 1 of your 2
lift slots open for customer repairs. If your restoration project starts
looking like it's costing more than you expected, take a few more jobs to get
the money you need.

There will be those who just don't want to put in the effort to make the
money or gain the xp. This section is for you, though I don't condone the use
of cheats.
There are 3 working cheats that I am aware of. All require you access
your desktop, either through the computer or tablet. Click on the Bluetooth
icon in the upper right corner, then on the entry box that appears.
moneyplease
Grants you $20. (It's probably faster just to do the work. Found on
GameFaqs, posted by Bryson)
