a) Welcome to my FAQ / Guide

Hello, I’m Buckwheatz Revenge (everyone knows me as "Bucky"), and welcome to my
guide! Prior to reading this guide, you should have downloaded (the demo) or
bought Battlefield 2 by EA Games. The information in this guide is directly
related to in-game situations and strategies. Having some experience in the game
before reading this guide will be helpful for you.

I can not teach you an exact, sure-fire way to win matches as a medic. However,
I will give you some information and gameplay tips that CAN be helpful in
winning matches while you are playing as a medic class. How you use this
information to affect your gameplay is entirely up to you, and keep in mind the
phrase; "Rome wasn’t built in a day".

Nobody gets good at this game overnight. It takes some hard core practice and
training to become competitive in Battlefield 2, so don’t worry if you’re
fighting for the second place score or the second to last place score. You will
improve over time, and all of us are not perfect! (I’m the farthest from being
perfect at this game, hehe)


b) General Medic Information

"MEDIC!" That is the dreaded word you hear when your teammates fall in combat.
YOU, the medic, are the sole person responsible for keeping your teammates
healthy and reviving your fallen comrades. After all, you’re the only one on the
battleground that can do this. (aside from supply crates, they can help heal
your wounds)

1) Medics are soldiers who specialize in the unique ability to heal and revive
teammates.
2) Medics have better sprinting abilities than some of the other soldier kits.
They are classified under "long distance", like Snipers. This is given to you so
you can get to your fallen teammates in a hurry, so make sure you take advantage
of it!
3) The medic does not have lots of protection when it comes to armor. Staying
out of enemy sights and avoiding crowded fire-fights when possible will do you
good. Unless you are rushing in to revive fallen comrades, then you have an
exception for putting your own life on the line!


c) Medic Kit Specifics

     1) USMC

1.1) Combat Knife -
A standard knife, designed for quick and quiet melee attacks. As a medic, you
might not be using this half as often as your other weapons. The combat knife is
very useful however if you are sneaking up behind an enemy soldier.
Unfortunately though, you will not be concentrating on this style of fighting,
you will want to be helping out your teammates.

1.2) Pistol (92FS) - low damage, low accuracy, semi-auto mode.
The trusty pistol is your backup to the Assault Rifle. Typically, one would not
want to use a pistol over a nicer gun like the Assault Rifle, because it is not
as effective at longer ranges, and it has a short magazine. The pistol is good
for quick, short range combat. If I am caught reloading my Assault Rifle in a
firefight, I will occasionally whip this gun out and unload a round or so until
I can enter a safer situation to reload. It’s nice to have as a backup. Aside
from that, in large battles, you won’t find it useful much at all.

1.3) Assault Rifle (M16A2) - medium damage, high accuracy, burst / semi-auto
modes.
This will be your main weapon as a medic. It has standard single semi-auto shot
or burst shot modes. It’s a great gun to use for short to medium distances. Its
magazine can store many more bullets than the pistol’s. Much more powerful and
useful than your standard pistol, you will rely on this gun a lot in the heat of
battle. Burst shot can be useful if you get stuck in a fire-fight, but
personally, I like switching over to semi-auto and rifle sniping enemies, it can
be somewhat accurate at picking off enemies.

1.4) Hand Grenade - fragmentation explosives, 4 second fuse.
"FRAG OUT!" Usually when people see a grenade fly in combat they RUN LIKE HECK!
And they should, the explosion kills infantry very easily and effectively.
Unless you are clearing out buildings or other places where enemies gather, you
might want to refrain from using these fragmentation explosives. You can easily
Teamkill your buddies on accident with these bad boys, so unless you have
practiced using them or unless you are an expert with them, use EXTREME caution.
Good news is that hand grenades can be useful if you’re not fragging teammates
with them. If an enemy is hiding behind an object or behind a corner of a
building or something, you can use a grenade to flush them out.

1.5) Medic Bag (Health Pack) -
Your medpack is a godsend, having the ability to recover lost health. You can
heal the wounds of your teammates with this item, and yourself too! On occasion,
I will run through heavy fire with one of these in my hands, because if you get
shot while holding this item, you will instantly begin recovering health. Just a
little secret to using this item in combat! Otherwise, you have the ability to
chuck these down on the battlefield, giving your teammates instant access to
health regeneration without you being around. I find it the second most useful
item in the medic’s arsenal.

1.6) Defibrillator (Shock Paddles) -
You will become one with this item as a medic. You use the defibrillator to
revive unconscious teammates. When a teammate is knocked unconscious, they can
call for medic. Although this might be very annoying to keep hearing over and
over, it gives a signal for you to spring into action with your shock paddles.
One thing people don’t understand at first, is that you have to aim for your
teammates unconscious body with the medical crosshair. How do people always
manage to miss me (like after 3 shock attempts) when I need to be revived at the
most key times?! The shock paddles can also be used as a melee weapon, shocking
your enemies, but you need to be so close to them to actually execute this it’s
not even worth it. Basically, if you are killed by an opposing medic’s
defibrillator, you’d better start laughing, because everyone around you is going
to make fun of you. :-)

1.7) Assault Rifle Upgrade (L85A1) - medium damage, high accuracy, full auto /
semi-auto modes. (SWITCHABLE with M16A2 Assault Rifle after being unlocked)
As you progress with your scores and standings, you get the opportunity to
upgrade one of your kit’s weapons. The L85A1 is the Medic’s upgraded weapon. I
unlocked it first of all the others, and I found the upgrade quite worth it.
After using this baby, you will want to junk your M16A2. The full auto mode is
nice to have if you are in an intense confrontation. You can still switch over
(like the M16A2) to single semi-auto shot mode and rifle snipe, as it is VERY
accurate. Try to limit your rifle mode to full auto, unless you are encountering
some heavy "in your face" infantry attacks. This both saves you bullets, and
allows more accurate placement of your shot.

     2) MEC

2.1) Combat Knife -
Same description as USMC.

2.2) Pistol (MR-444) - low damage, low accuracy, semi-auto mode.
Same description as USMC.

2.3) Assault Rifle (AK101) - high damage, medium / high accuracy, full auto /
semi-auto modes.
Similar to the USMC’s Assault Rifle, except that this weapon has the advantage
of having full automatic mode, and the disadvantage of loss in accuracy.

2.4) Hand Grenade - fragmentation explosives, 4 second fuse.
Same description as USMC.

2.5) Medic Bag (Health Pack) -
Same description as USMC.

2.6) Defibrillator (Shock Paddles) -
Same description as USMC.

2.7) Assault Rifle Upgrade (L85A1) - medium damage, high accuracy, full auto /

     3) China

3.1) Combat Knife -

3.2) Pistol (QSZ-92) - low damage, low accuracy, semi-auto mode.
Same description as USMC.

3.3) Assault Rifle (AK-47) - high damage, medium accuracy, full auto / semi-auto
modes.
Similar to the USMC’s Assault Rifle, except that this weapon has the advantage
of having full automatic mode, and the disadvantage of loss in accuracy. This
gun is nearly an exact replica of the MEC AK101.

3.4) Hand Grenade - fragmentation explosives, 4 second fuse.
Same description as USMC.

3.5) Medic Bag (Health Pack) -
Same description as USMC.

3.6) Defibrillator (Shock Paddles) -
Same description as USMC.

3.7) Assault Rifle Upgrade (L85A1) - medium damage, high accuracy, full auto /
semi-auto modes. (SWITCHABLE with AK-47 Assault Rifle after being unlocked)
Same description as USMC.


d) Being a useful Medic

Practice efficiency with your medic kit. Know how to use your defibrillator to
revive teammates. . . aiming the medical crosshair at your teammate's
unconscious body. Actually you might want to aim for the chest, just for
target's sake.

The medical bag is your other tool in your arsenal. Because you can't always
stand around your teammates, you might just want to throw them down on the
ground near your teammates, so they can use them when they need them if you are
not present.

Remember, your team loses a ticket for every soldier that is not revived in
battle. You are obligated as a medic to keep your teammates in good health and
alive. So be a team player when you use this kit, stick by your squad and
teammates, and don't go off as a lone wolf.

Keep all of these in mind when the score of the battle is getting close and you
have NO medics on your team or in your squad. You may have to bite the bullet
and do it, so make sure you are good at it.


e) Acting quick under pressure

Be hasty! There is only a set amount of time you have to revive a fallen
comrade with your shock paddles. Try to be quick about getting over to a
teammate. . . however. . . reviving a teammate right in front of an opponent or
the likes is not a good idea, or you both will wind up unconscious!


f) Keeping your head up

Don’t revive teammates in the middle of a fire-fight. Make sure you look
around before you revive a fallen teammate. Chances are, the enemy who fragged
your teammate still has their sights in that general area. Extinguish the
majority of harm before you revive teammates, or they will wind up unconscious
again, and YOU with them! (of course, you’ll still get to keep the points for
reviving ^_^)


g) Paying attention to the radar

Use your radar. Medics have a special red icon on their radars that indicate the
location of unconscious teammates. Make sure you are alert of it. If you see two
unconscious teammates on the radar, and one is closer than the other, revive the
one that is closest to you first. Your chances of reviving them is higher. . .
just use your judgment and common sense. Usually you can tell if you can make it
to a comrade or not just by seeing the distance they are from you on the radar.


h) Swiping unused Medic kits

Take teammates (and/or opponents) kits. If you don’t start with a medic kit, and
you see a fallen comrade with a medic kit, use THEIR OWN kit to revive them!
You’re saving a friend’s life and earning points. Likewise, if you kill an
opponent and find yourself in a situation where you need a medic kit. Take that
enemy kit and revive your buddy! Finders, keepers! =)


i) The use of Medics riding in vehicles

Hitchhike! It pays to take rides in vehicles. One, you benefit all teammates
around you by healing nearby friendly troops. And two, you get to take
advantage of the vehicle's armor for protection, and this is good seeing as
medic’s don’t have much of this as standard infantry members. Also consider
using vehicles as a medic because you will get to your teammates quicker than
running to them on foot.


j) Encountering enemies as a Medic

Use the jump/prone technique when you are encountering enemies. Whether it is
one on one, or in some intense situation when you are mobbed by several
opponents, I have a special technique for you to use. Jump in the air, and when
you are in midair, go prone. As soon as you hit the ground in prone position,
quickly get out of prone position and jump again. Repeating the process can make
you tough to aim up for an enemy. And if you are running directly at an
opponent, you will be very difficult to hit using this technique.

I can’t really explain any of the technicalities behind it, this is just how the
game engine works. I just know from personal experience it is hard to kill
opponents when they do this with any kind of bullet. This is because while you
do this silly looking technique, you are shifting your soldier's body very
quickly. You might not be invincible by doing this, but you will at least make
it much harder for your opponents to shoot you down on foot, and maybe even
give you a chance to put them away.

The above technique is a strategy if you have your pistol, or a grenade handy.
You may use this technique with the assault rifle as well, but as I mentioned
earlier, setting your rifle to single semi-auto shot mode will pay off. When
your opponents are mid distance away from you (as opposed to in your face), use
this mode. You will be able to place your shots and snipe enemies more
effectively. Full auto when you are in large and intense firefights, when
enemies are getting up close to you.

And your last, ditch effort, if you are up close to an enemy, and find yourself
with a knife or defibrillator in hand, you can try your luck hitting them with
that. I think you'd be more likely to kill with the knife though. The
defibrillator requires that you are practically kissing an opponent, so good
luck with that! :-)


k) Medics and Voice Over IP (VOIP)

Keeping in contact with your team can often be tough in large, intense battles.
Personally, I haven't used the Voice Over IP (VOIP) function that much in BF2.
Probably because the servers I play on never have it enabled. =(  But anyway,
it can be quite a useful tool for a medic. You can let your teammates know of
your location instantly by speaking to them with this, unlike the radar, which
often in the heat of battle you do not have time to study just to find a medic.
VOIP allows you to instantly communicate and "speak" in real time with your
teammates. . . not that the in game commands lack that, but I think the
effectiveness of hearing someone's actual voice is more useful (just as long
as they don't mumble too much! ^_^) over the basic, commonly-heard ingame
commands. My point here is, if the server you are on allows VOIP
communications, and you are in a squad as a medic, make use of it. Your
teammates will benefit.


l) Earning Badges and other Awards as a Medic

Getting badges, awards, and promotions in rank is what helps you keep going in
this game. It give you a sense of duty, and purpose to play the game. You will
earn them as you play and progress in the game, so be patient, it took me many
tries to get these the first time around.

Thanks to my friends, I was able to earn both of the basic medic badges. I will
supply you with the information on how to earn all medic-related badges below:

     1) Basic Medic Combat badge: If you kill 10 enemy soldiers (or getting 10
frags as I like to say!) in one round, you will earn this badge. Nothing too
bad about this one, but it will be difficult to get until you gain some
experience in combat. Sometimes in smaller servers like 8v8 it will be more
difficult to accomplish than in a 32v32, but that is all a matter of
preference. I think participating in the 64 player servers is a great way to
get over 10 kills easily, as there are more chances for you to kill opponents.
. but just keep in mind there will be that many more opponents attacking you!

     2) Basic First Aid badge: You need to get 5 healing points or more in one
round. You earn healing points by using your med pack. It’s not a really hard
badge to get, just keep an eye on your teammates health, or if you want to get
it really quickly, play a 32v32 server and run around with the health pack.
There are plenty of people to heal in those big games ^_^

     3) Veteran Medic Combat badge: To earn this badge, you need to have both
20 kills all in one round playing as a medic. You also need to have played as a
medic for 250 global hours. I haven't earned this badge yet, probably because
it requires a good amount of hours playing the medic kit. To get 20 kills in
one round, play a big server and find a server that starts above 200 tickets. I
usually earn all my badges in longer-lasting games.

     4) Veteran First Aid badge: This badge is the easier of the two medals to
attain in my opinion. I just played in a server a couple days ago and got over
10 heals in one round. Simply have a LOT of medic bags around your teammates at
all times. When they grab the bag and heal themselves, you will usually get a
healing point. The only difficult thing about this badge is the gameplay hours.
This is because you need 500 global hours of solid gameplay with the medic kit
besides the heals, which is by far the easier task to perform.

     5) Expert Medic Combat badge: Ugh. This badge's requirements makes my
head hurt. To attain this well-respected badge, you need to kill 40 opponents
in one round as medic. Also you need 1000 global hours clocked in playing as a
medic. My recommendation for the kills is to hop into a vehicle, like an attack
helicopter to earn the 40 kills in a round. This can be SOMEWHAT easy to do if
you have the gunning experience of a helicopter down pat. The gameplay hours. .
well, you are on your own with that! Play as much as possible!

     6) Expert First Aid badge: Ok, it might take some time for you to earn
this badge. This is because you need 500 global healing points. Also you need
to have played 1000 hours of gameplay as a medic. Lastly, you will need to earn
25 healing points in one round. If you play a rather small urban assault map,
like Strike at Karkand, I think it would be entirely possible for you to get
that many heals, if the ticket count is high, maybe somewhere over 200 or so.
The technique is just throw medic bags at any possible teammate you can find,
then RUN because you will need to find as many teammates in need of heals as
possible.

Now, for some questions! (Q & A)

Q - Why write a Medic Guide?
A - I decided on Medic Guide because I find myself playing that kit the most of
all the kits (not all the kits combined though, I play assault a good amount
too ^_^). I find medic to be the most useful of all the kits, with the unique
ability to heal and revive teammates in battle! No other kit gets that perk,
and gets points from it!

Q - Ok, I keep on reviving my teammates, but they keep dying right away! Help
me.
A - This is only natural in the heat of a battle. You can prevent this though
by staying relatively near them, if they are dying in a specific area, maybe
you can spot and snipe out the enemy with your M16 rifle, then revive them.
Another solution is litter the ground with medpacks near them, that way if you
leave the general area, and teammates are wounded (but not unconscious), they
can use the medpacks whenever they need it. You really can't stop your
teammates from dying though, you as the medic just have to roll with the
punches!

Q - The Medic's M16 / AK101 / AK-47 sucks. Why do you praise it so much?
A - Those three guns are actually quite useful at mid-range when you set it to
semi-auto shot mode and use it for aiming and sniping out opponents. The burst
shot and full auto shot modes actually degrade your accuracy, so I don't use
it. I like the single shot much better, for accuracy. Although burst will fire
off three shots, and full auto you can shower your bullets at opponents, I can
use semi-auto to place three bullets in an opponent much more accurately (like
three head, chest, or leg shots). Not to mention that semi-auto mode has much
LESS recoil than the other two modes. =)

Q - Medics are awfully weak. How can they ever stand up to enemy armor (tanks)
and other vehicles?
A - Yes, a medic doesn't have any rockets or heavy artillery. It seems to be a
general weakness of many of the kits though. The only real solution I can
provide is to use grenades. Otherwise, you should hang around an anti-tank
player or two, maybe even join their squad or invite them to one, and use their
protection to your advantage. It's kind of a win-win situation, you get vehicle
defense from them, and they get medical attention from you when they need it.
