Welcome to my very first FAQ, for Atmosfear: The Third Dimension.
I hope you find this FAQ helpful, so you can beat The Gatekeeper
at his own game. In this Walkthrough, I will list the characters,
the provinces available, the mini-games, multi-player and as much
else as I can think of.

I will try to make each and everyone of you reading this FAQ
understand the way Atmosfear works. If anyone has this game and
has information of it that I have not put down here or thinks my
info is incorrect, please let me know by contacting me at this
e-mail address:

[email protected]

Please, if you e-mail me, make sure the subject is "Atmosfear: The
Third Dimension FAQ", and have what site you are reading it from
in it too.

Now, let's start the FAQ then, shall we?

04.06.2006 - New Atmosfear Name! More in Misc.!

Well, you guys just can't get rid of me! ; )

New details have arisen on the newest Atmosfear, though I am obliged
not to share any information other than it's title -- it's gone back
to it's original name. *PHEW* I hated Legend of the Mummy, it sounds
so corny.

And I've added an extra tidbit of information in the Misc. section.

Finally, I'm going to work on a new FAQ now -- Atmosfear: The
Gatekeeper. Again, it will be allowed only on GameFAQs and The Well
of Fears, but that's for another time. Seya later! Have a happy
06/06/06!

28.05.2006 - Fixed main header!

I forgot to update the "Last Update" up at the top. Right now I'm
working on another FAQ, so this at the moment is the final update I'll
be making for this FAQ. Thanks for reading! : )

03.03.2006 - Fixed some headers! Added to a questions answer! Ate pie!
Added to the Controls section!

I thought I fixed some headers yesterday, but it turns out I screwed
them up! >_< Never mind. I also added to an answer in the FAQ section
(question one), and talked about duelling in the Controls section. I
think I ought to stop adding to this FAQ soon and write a new one : )

02.03.2006 - New section added! FAQ section fixed! Added to Misc!
More stuff in E-mail Me section!

As requested by Bob, I have added a section dedicated on how to work
the controls, in case you are missing your manual. And I've also
changed a couple of answers to the FAQ section, as I messed up a
certain answer. And I've added a question or two. And I've added one
more fact in the Misc. section. This is the biggest update I've done
so far!

26.02.2006 - Board game name change!

Atmosfear II - Khufu the Mummy has had its name changed! Check Section
12 to see its new name!

07.02.2006 - More mistakes fixed!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Anne de Chantraine's profile was set out wrong at
one stage, and I deleted the lines between the profiles. Hope you
guys all had a happy new year!

27.11.2005 - Fixed mistakes!

I've fixed some more mistakes. You're really very lucky for me to be
doing this for you, you know. I mean, even if you didn't - *shot*

22.11.2005 - Fixed mistakes!

I've fixed some mistakes.

04.11.2005 - Updated!

I updated the FAQ by adding new stuff to the Disclaimer, start of FAQ,
and added Version History.

01.11.2005 - FAQ accepted!

GameFAQs today accepted this FAQ. Yay for me!

31.10.2005 - Submitted FAQ!

Day I submitted FAQ. Woo!

                    What is this game about?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

This game is a 3-D first-perspective board game. Wait! Before you go
find some other game FAQ to read, listen!

You are basically one of six "Harbingers" - The Gatekeeper's servants.
You must try to escape this horrible place by beating The Gatekeeper.
He is the host of the game, and does not want you to win. That's really
too bad for him then, eh? You must try to win by going to six different
"Unpromised Provinces" and collecting a coloured Keystone from each
Province. Each Province is different, whether it be a forest, jungle,
or fairground! Once you have got all six Keystones, you must go to
the place in the middle of the board, and try not to get your biggest
fear. You have no say in the matter, for the fear picked out is random
(you pick your fear at the beginning of the game). If it is not your
fear, you win! If it is, you lose! You move around the board by either
selecting one or two dice to use. Each turn, you can either choose to
go forward or back at the start of your turn. If you move one step
forward to begin with, then you cannot go back
until you reach a crossroad. Then, you can go forward, back, left or
right. Up to you, really.

This game features some really good character art, and is not a game
to miss out on if you are a fan of the Nightmare/Atmosfear series.
Unfortunately, the only place you would possibly find them nowadays is
on eBay! I got my copy from eBay myself.

Now that you should understand the game, let's move on!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

                           The Maps

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

In THIS section of the FAQ, I will explain how you move around the
board.

How the maps work:
Okay, after you have finished the introduction scene, you will start
on your character's gravestone. You can only move forward for now,
so you should. You have a limited time to react, so hurry! Once done,
press the Space bar. You will immediately go to your next turn.

Now, you can either go forward, or turn around. To turn around, you
must roll either one or two dice, and STOP!!! Now, make the maggot you
are dragging around on the screen go left or right. Once you click it,
you should have been turned around. The same goes for when you reach
the crossroads, but this time you must click the mouse a certain amount
of times to go in the right direction. Or is it left? Or backwards?
Or forwards? Whatever.

There are certain spaces on the map. I will describe them below:

Keystone Space: Has a key pictured on it. Land on it to receive a key.
Circular Grave: Land on this, and something good will happen. You might
even get a Keystone! Also called a Fortune
Sepulchre. Don't worry, I don't know what that means
               either.
Triangular Grave: Land on this, and something bad will happen. You could
lose duel points (see section 6), or even a key! Maybe
you can only roll with one die for a limited time!
Avoid this space at all costs! These spaces are also
                 called Fate Crypts.
The Black Hole: Another bad omen, the Black Hole sends you spiralling
down it for three or more turns. They look different each
map, so they're all explained below, on the appropriate
               character.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hellin's Map:
The ghosts map is directly north of the other Unpromised Provinces. It is
set up like a fairground, with evil clown faces floating around, toy blocks
galore and a run-down train track. You start in this place if you are
Hellin, and you need a Pink Keystone to move to a different Province. The
entire place is mainly pink, with some purple and blue thrown in at
different places. This place (for me) is the creepiest place on the board.
The Black Hole on this board is quicksand, shaped in spirals.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Khufu's Map:
The mummies map is located north-east of the other Unpromised Provinces.
It is a desert, with what looks to be a narrow passage below it. When you
start off as Khufu, you will start in the passageways. You find the key
here, then go up the set of stairs. You will need a Yellow Keystone to
move on, and the colours in this place are yellow and orange. You may see
some red. The Black Hole here is a gaping hole where a space should be.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anne de Chantraine's Map:
The witches map is south-east of the other Unpromised Provinces. I can't
really say what it is themed on, buts let call is a courtyard for now.
There is a pentagram where you start, and it has a real witch feel to it.
The water around the map is orange, like everything else. There's black
everywhere too. Anyway, you need the Orange Keystone before you can leave.
The Black Hole is like Khufus, however you can see water in it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Baron Samedi's Map:
Located to the south of the Provinces, Baron Samedi's map in just like a
jungle. You can see bushes, tropical trees, volcanoes, and bushes made
of skeletons. Yes, bushes made of skeletons. There is a rickety rope
bridge crossing the lava underneath (but don't worry, it never collapses),
plus a lake! This is very pretty, but some places on the map look a bit
fake from first perspective. The Black Holes here are like Khufus, only
bigger. You need a Green Keystone to escape here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Countess Elizabeth Bathory's Map:
My personal favourite of the Harbingers, her map is another unknown thing
to me. Let's call it a tower. She starts off at the top of a rocky, tall,
spiralling tower. You could easily nab the Red Keystone, turn back the next
turn and head through the tunnels to any area you wished, as it would be
easier than going the whole way. The Black Hole here is like Hellins, but
looks like  blood. Surrounding the map, there is a blood lake. Red and blue
are the colours you'll see here!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gevaudans Map:
The werewolf's map is north-west of the Provinces. It is blue and black,
and is an eerie forest. The Black Holes are exactly like Khufus, and you'll
need a Blue Keystone to escape. The bushes, thorns, and dead trees look
stupendous here - a real feast for the eyes. There isn't much else to be
said here, so let's move on...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Middle Map:
A rather basic map: it is in the heart of the Provinces, and each Province
has access to it. There are three sets of stairs to reach (right by the exits
of the male Harbingers), leading up to a coffin. This coffin holds the fear
that could win you the game, or make you lose all that hard work you did
getting the Keystones (you need all six to enter here).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tunnels:
The last of the maps, this map is underneath every Province. You can get to
any map you wish to here, excluding the middle map. I recommed you only
use this to go to a Province either to the right or left of you; nowhere
else.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

                         The Mini-Games

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Here are challenges The Gatekeeper will present to you throughout the
game. Some are fair, some aren't.

Blackjack:
The Gatekeeper plays Blackjack with you. If you don't know how
Blackjack works, then I'll explain. You have five cards. Two of those
cards are shown; the other three are hidden, face-down. You must
try to get closer to 21 than The Gatekeeper (so see if you can get a
ten and ace). The Gatekeeper puts either Keystones or duel points
(section 6) on the line.

A Door Prize:
Basically, you have to choose one of many doors (that are not barred
off). Usually, you'll get duel points for picking a door, but other
fortunes and fates may happen sometimes occur.

When Your Number Comes Up:
You must choose a number between one to ten. There are no consequences
for choosing wrong; you just miss a chance of getting up to 50 duel
points or a Keystone.

The Gate:
You have to choose whether to open the gate or not. You have to be
quick with this one, or The Gatekeeper will give the bad fate to you
instantly. I'd recommend always declining these offers, especially if
you have all six Keystones.

Bribes:
Not so much a mini-game, but a pain. The Gatekeeper wants your
Keystone, but gives you the choice of that going to him, or ten
duel points. I'd recommend duel points straight away! Hurry, cos
he'll choose for you otherwise!

The Money or the Box:
Well, not money, but Duel Points. There are two coffins. The one
on the left is always 10 Duel Points, and the one on the right is
always closed. The closed coffin contains from 1 Duel Point, to
50 Duel Points. It also contains winning a Keystone, losing a
Keystone, going to the Black Hole or losing a die for a limited
time. Personally, I choose the left one mainly, unless I feel
cocky.

The One-Armed Bandit:
It's the slots, but Atmosfear style. You must try to line up three
of the same symbol. Don't worry if you don't though, because you'll
only lose five Duel Points. The Jackpot is 50.

Roll A Number:
Again, not really a mini-game. The Gatekeeper tells you a number
to roll. If you roll it, you receive that many Keystones. There is
no penalty for losing.

The Chosen One:
Another not-so mini-game. In game, the first one to roll double six
will be The Gatekeeper's chosen one. This can be a good or bad
thing. Mainly bad for me.

They are all the mini-games there are in the game. Like I said,
some are fair, some aren't.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

                         The Keystones

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

In this section, I shall explain what powers the Harbingers earn each
Keystone they receive. I'll mark it below:

ET - Entrance to The Tunnels
F - Flight
D - Gives you 25% points boost for defence in duelling
BHD - Never can be sent to the Black Hole
A - Gives you 25% points boost for attacking in duelling
SAS - You can stop on any stone; just press Space

Baron Samedi:
Green Keystone - ET
Pink Keystone - SAS
Yellow Keystone - A
Orange Keystone - BHD
Blue Keystone - D
Red Keystone - F

Anne de Chantraine:
Orange Keystone - ET
Blue Keystone - SAS
Red Keystone - D
Green Keystone - F
Pink Keystone - A
Yellow Keystone - BHD

Elizabeth Bathory:
Red Keystone - ET
Green Keystone - BHD
Pink Keystone - D
Yellow Keystone - SAS
Orange Keystone - A
Blue Keystone - F

Khufu:
Yellow Keystone - ET
Orange Keystone - F
Blue Keystone - A
Red Keystone - SAS
Green Keystone - D
Pink Keystone - BHD

Gevaudan:
Blue Keystone - ET
Red Keystone - BHD
Green Keystone - A
Pink Keystone - F
Yellow Keystone - D
Orange Keystone - SAS

Hellin:
Pink Keystone - ET
Yellow Keystone - F
Orange Keystone - D
Blue Keystone - BHD
Red Keystone - A
Green Keystone - SAS

Well, that's basically it. Now that you have all Keystones, go as fast
as you can to the middle of the map. Open the coffin, and hope you win
the game!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

                   Duelling/Multiplayer/Curses

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Section A: Duelling
In this sub-section, I will explain the Duelling system, and the Duel
Points you would have read countless times in this FAQ.

To duel, you must have at least one opponent. You must also have as
much Duel Points as possible, to increase your chances of success.
You earn points by landing on circular graves, winning in Blackjack,
and nearly every other mini-game in the game.

Once you have enough points, and your opponent has enough so you can
beat him/her, click on your symbol on the bottom right corner when the
game tells you it's your turn. You will choose an opponent (if you
decide to not duel, click on a blank window), and will have a thermometer
on either side of the screen. Click on your thermometer. Let's say you
have 50 Duel Points, while your opponent has only 30. While it would be
easier to make your thermometer go all the way up (the further up you
go, the more points you use and lose), it is not wise. If your opponent
goes only halfway, he'll have used only 15, and keep 15. Now you go
halfway. Then, you have 25 points to use another time. Whoever has
the most points (in this case, it's you), can do one of two things:
take a Keystone from an opponent, or curse them. The curses are
explained in Section B. If you choose a curse, click on the Soul Ranger
on the scroll of paper. If you want a Keystone, just click on the one
you want.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section B: Curses
Each character has its own curse. The Gatekeeper will cure this after
three turns of agonising wait, but it will cost you 25% of your Duel
Points.

Baron Samedi's curse:
His curse is the worst curse (if you use it). It just makes you move
slower, which will waste the time you have to move.

Anne de Chantraine's curse:
Her curse turns you into a toad. You can only move one space each turn.

Elizabeth Bathory's curse:
Elizabeth's is the best to use. Any Keystone you receive goes straight
to her!

Khufu's curse:
A wall blocks your sight, preventing you from seeing your way around
The Provinces.

Gevaudan's curse:
Maggots slowly eat away at the screen, very slowly. When they get your
character symbol. you are unable to duel.

Hellin's curse:
Her curse breaks your character portrait, preventing you from being able
to duel, see your Duel Points, Keystones or the time left.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section C: Multiplayer
This is what the game was made for: Multiplayer. Anyone from 1-6
people can play. It's pretty much the same as Single Player, but it's
much more fun. You can annoy people by duelling them. However, I was
disappointed to see that you cannot see the other Harbingers playing.
That would have made the experience so more worthwhile!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

                          Controls

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I luckily received the manual when I got my copy of the game from
eBay. Unfortunately, others weren't so lucky. So this section is
dedicated to the controls of Atmosfear: The Third Dimension!

Whilst you mainly use the mouse in the game, you can use the space
bar as soon as you finish moving (remember, you can stop mid-turn if
you have the right Keystone!). When you are moving, DO NOT click on
the mouse while the maggot is on the black border. It has to be inside
it for the game to react to your clicks (the maggot is the cursor, for
those who don't know what I'm on about). Click on the single dice to
roll just one, or the two to roll two. To move forwards, make sure the
maggot is pointing up. To move left, drag it slightly to the left to
make the maggot turn left. To move right, do the same.

Keep in mind you cannot turn, unless you turn before you move (and after
you roll the dice), or when you reach the crossroads. If you want to move
back and you reach the crossroads, click the maggot left or right twice.

I think everyone knows how to select your character and fear though, so
let's skip that. = )

The only way to duel an opponent in this game is to click on your
characters symbol when the character screen comes up.

i.e. You're Anne de Chantraine, and your character screen comes up. Click
on the cauldron, and select an opponent to duel! Simple (but annoying if
you don't have the manual >_<).

                          Disclaimer

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I'd just like to make a couple of things clear:

1) I make no money making this, and that I wrote it for the fact I
enjoyed the game. The most I accept for this is praise. I DID NOT
make this game, nor do I own the characters. I am simply a fan of
the series. Nothing more, nothing less.
2) I will allow you to print this out if you wish, but PLEASE, no
selling it or claiming it as your own.
3) No other places except GameFAQs or The Well of Fears is allowed
to use this FAQ. Anyone who sends me an email asking to use this
FAQ on another site will have that e-mail deleted, without a reply.
  My decision is final.

Please do not betray my trust.

                            FAQs

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

*) How do I choose what character I want to be?
You can't. It is always random.

*) I've heard <insert character here> the <insert species here> is
  unlockable. Is this true?
No, unfortunately there are no unlockable characters in this game.

*) Why can't I see The Gatekeeper's full face?
You only see his eyes as it was easier for the creators of the
  game to change the language.

*) I've heard there's an expansion for this game.
That's not a question. The German expansion is just a rumour. But,
it may be real. I'm not too sure. Please e-mail me if you find
  one.

*) Why the hell did you choose to write a FAQ on this?
Why not? It's an easy enough FAQ to write, and a simple game
  makes a good first FAQ.

*) Did you make these questions up yourself?
The ones with *'s next to them, yes. With numbers, no.

1) Would you happen to know whether it's possible to make the [game
character screen] last a little bit less? It's a bit annoying to
have to hear flapping bats for 7 seconds every time I want to play
a turn. I turn the computer up because I enjoy the Gatekeeper
  "trying to scare you."
                                                    ~ Bob E. Thomas

Unfortunately not. It may be a pain, but it doesn't last that long.
They were actually very good to make it last that long, actually.
The only way to duel an opponent is to click on your Harbingers
symbol on the character screen, and some people may not decide to
duel until after a few seconds.

2) Would you happen to have played any of the board games?
                                                    ~ Bob E. Thomas

I own all the games released, bar the second booster tape (I bought
the European version from eBay, which came with the first booster
tape), the card game and, of course, Khufu. But I will be attempting
to buy them from eBay in the coming months (except for Khufu. I'll
buy it from a store -- unless I luckily get a copy sent to me from
the makers of Atmosfear *hint hint*).

Nightmare/Atmosfear III: Anne de Chantraine - Witch (1993)

The final section of the FAQ is just little trivia about the series
I'd like to share:

1) Hellin's name changed to Helin when she appeared on the DVD
  version.

2) Nightmare V: Khufu - Mummy was advertised in Nightmare IV, but
was never released due to poor sales of Bathory.

3) There are t-shirt brands, jigsaw puzzles and even a song
featuring Baron Samedi (and Anne de Chantraine for about one
second) on the end of Nightmare IV. "Thrill Me!" is it's title.

4) Nightmare was called Atmosfear in Europe due to confusion with a
similar boardgame called Knightmare. They changed it all to
Atmosfear eventually because it was an easier choice.

5) In Nightmare II, Baron Samedi has an eyeball hanging out of his
socket at the end of the game. In Atmosfear II, he has glassy eyes.

6) Atmosfear IV came with a set of 48 Chance cards, whilst Nightmare
IV came with 96 Time cards. So Aussies and Americans missed out on
a new set of Chance cards, but everywhere else missed out on an
  extra 48 Time cards!

7) Booster Tape 2 was only ever released in Australia. Europe and
America only have the first Booster Tape.

8) Hellin is the only Harbinger (As of right now) to be entirely
fictional. Try reading the two syllables in her name backwards,
and you'll see why she was a great choice. I'm happy that she is
fictional -- losing a child like that would be unbearable, even if
  she was a brat!

Well, this is it. The end of my FAQ. Not a bad first one, if I may say
so myself : )
