/   \ |  \ |__|   '96   TEAM FAQ

                  by SolidSam

This FAQ is found only at www.GAMEFAQS.com

Version 0.1 10/9/01- This is JUST a starter version. When I get used to
doing the format
(and I get the cd back from my friend), I will them put in the PLAYER NAMES
for some BIG TEAMS.
In the game and more details in the team.
Version 0.2 15/10/01- I've reviewed more of the teams, it's still not
completed.
I'm getting back the game very soon.
Version 0.8 24/10/01- This FAQ is almost completed now and starting to get
bigger. I've got the game back
now so I can work on it, and I keep saying 'OHH YEH HOW COULD I FORGET THEM'
when I search through
team. Also, there's finally more than two teams in the EUROPE section.
All the teams are completed and no longer have to be put up from memory.

About this FAQ
===================
This FAQ is an Add-on to my other one. It will be better to make a sperate
one instead to
put this into the first one (thus making the size bigger, and harder
information navigation).
For easier reading, just head over to the team you reguarly choose to know
how to get better
with them. Eventually I'll have all the teams eventually. I DO have school,
with school sport
teams and gradual assignments, I'll have to work piece by piece.

Team work
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
TEAM WORK is the best thing you can use to win ANY game. In Arl '96, without
cheating or
changing a team's or player's stats. It's impossible to win the game just by
using one man.
By passing and kicking you'll win ALMOST any game.
However...sometimes no matter how much effort you put in, you're just going
to lose
(eg. Parramatta vs. Australia)
Check my Other Faq for passing tips and tricks to regaining the ball very
quick after you've
lost it. I'll put a brief description up here:

PASSING - By passing to one other while you've JUST been tackled is called
OFFLOADING. This is
THE most helpful thing. When you offload right, the player coming to tackle
you will TACKLE and
stay down on you, allowing the reciever of the ball to run past.
This is really helpful when used on the last 2 men right near the side line.

KICKING - Usually on the last tackle you'll be tempted to Kick the ball out
of range to the
other team to begin a new set of 6. The best way to score is to KICK through
the gaps you
see in the formation of the opposite team for success. BOMBING the ball (the
ball makes BIG AIR)
Is not really good at all, the other team always has enough time to get
around you, and if you get
the ball you are tackled IMMEDIATELEY. GRUBBERS (small bouncy kicks) are
very good for speedy
runners.

TACKLING *new* - Some Teams have very big forwards that do some heavy
running. So I suggest
when going on with teams such as Tonga or Brisbane that you take an extra
man. Depending on
one man puts a lot of pressure on and it's a try or close to one if your
player doesn't succeed
in completeing the tackle.

* Well that's it for now, now onto the teams *

******************
TEAM STATS
******************
This section contains the teams in the game, and their ratings I've given
them. The teams i support
do not earn any extra points (in other words I do it fairly).
=========
Australia
=========

Parramatta Eels - 3.6/10
* The eels were very bad that year. Not a good choice to pick from for
starters, I use them for
challenges though, like against harder teams. Try them if you wanna suffer
to get better.
A good pick for players that want to get better.

Cronulla Sharks - 5.5/10
* The sharks are a really good team. They're an ALL ROUNDER team. Ok speed,
Ok tackling, pretty
good for starters.

Canterbery Bulldogs - 5.3/10
* The Bulldogs are another good team to play with. Some players are
acceptionally fast and good
tacklers.

Brisbane Broncos - 5.6/10
* The Broncos are a good team handle. They have good defense and a really
good player is Blackstone.
I didn't notice until I kept getting tries from him.

Manly Sea-Eagles - 6/10
* Manly were a VERY good team in 1996. They hold good speed and excellent
defense. A really
good pick (they won the Grand Final that year).

North Sydney Bears - 4.1/10
* The Bears are an average team. They lack some running skills, but a good
choice for starters.
They have an overall of just about average.

Sydney City Roosters - 5.1/10
* The roosters are a team above average. They're good all around. Brad
Fittler is an excellent
*star* player to play around with. They have good tackling aswell, and most
players are light.

Canberra Raiders - 5.2/10
* The Canberra Raiders are a strong team. They posess good charging and
tackling abilities.
It's best to use them against weaker teams. They don't have very light
playes, most are a bit
heavy, so most wins might not be high scoring (but a win is a win).

Western Suburbs - 3.4/10
* Like Parramatta, the western suburbs (magpies) aren't a strong team. They
do have a bit better
than Parramatta, however it's easier to win against The magpies than most
teams. Not a BAD pick
but an 80% chance of losing one.

Illawarra Steelers - 4.1/10
* The steelers are a tick off the average mark. They can be fustrating to
play as sometimes.
Mostly it's because some runners are the only ones that can run. They don't
exist anymore.

St. George Dragons - 4.2/10
* The Dragons, like the Steelers don't exist anymore. They are now ST.
GEORGE ILLAWARRA, but fans
still call them The Dragons. Their flag has a knight and Dragon on it
though. The team is a bit
off steady in tackling. Their running is great. They have good kicking
aswell.

Auckland Warriors - 4.1/10
* The Warriors have not emerged with any team but are now called NEW ZEALAND
WARRIORS. They have
heavy men in their team. They don't run very well, but their tackling is
good. They get hard to
put down mostly with heaps of teams as some are big and have good stamina.

Western Reds - 3.4/10
* The Western Reds no longer exist. They don't have much of a strong team.
Some players are
ok runners, they do lack some tackling some times. I like their kicks
though, cause some players
with speed have good kicks and make themself useful.

South Queensland Crushers - 3.4/10
* The Crushers No longer exist. They aren't a good team by my point of view.
Not a popular team
aswell. They don't have much running capibilities, and I don't like their
main kicker. This
team lacks tackling, most people run straight past the players on the team.
It could be
fustrating.

===============
STATE OF ORIGIN
===============

New South Wales - 7.5/10
* Both State if Origin are VERY strong teams. They have the best players
from the the Rugby league
teams. N.S.W and Queensland and both equally good. N.S.W has a really good
running scheme and pattern.
They're faster than Queensland, but lack the tackling ability that
Queensland are superior for.
They still can tackle, but again Queensland have the better defense.

Queensland - 7.5/10
* Queensland are a bigger bunch. They have the almighty defense of the two
teams. Their speed however
is a bit slower than N.S.W. Beware though, New south wales can easiely run
around you then you can do
so around them. I think on Kick off, with both teams you should quikly tap
the kick button twice very
fast so it goes close. Then speed after the ball straight away and you'll
hopefully get it. This is
easier done than said! N.S.W do this easier, as they posess more speed.
=============
INTERNATIONAL
=============

Australia - 9.9/10
* Australia I think is the BEST team in Rugby League TODAY and in the game.
However, they could've
got a 10/10, except that they aren't impossible to beat. They have VERY
strong defense and PERFECT
running. ^_^

New Zealand - 9.5/10
* New Zealand are another good bunch of blokes that have good skills. They
aren't as strong as
Australia, They're still pretty good. They have god speed and EXCELLENT
defense. However Australia
still beats them. They aren't a bad team, they're GOOD. It's in the top 3
teams of the game.

Great Britain - 9.4/10
* Great Britain and England are mostly the same teams. They both have good
defense, but like many
big teams they like running abilities. They have good kickers aswell, but
the Aussie's still beat them.
A good international Team.

England - 9.4/10
* Like Great Britain, They both have good defense. They have a big bunch of
forwards which pose
threats to most teams! It's easiest to run around and charge down rather
than run head on against them.
They're big, which means less speed.

South Africa - 8.9/10
* The south African team are a big group. Amazingly this is one team that
kind of lacks speed but
has one of the BEST kicking and tackling. When playing against them pass
around till you see a
gap in the center, this is one of the best chances to make good breaks.

Wales - 9.0/10
* Wales is very similar to England and Great Britain but a weaker side.
They're an OK team with
average players everywhere. They don't posess extra kicking ability,
tackling nor speed.
I don't play as them much.

Tonga - 9.2/10
* Almost impossible to withstand in running. They have heavy people. The
best thing I can say is
when they're running on the sidelines NEVER depend on one guy to tackle. The
running is a bit
slow but they can take down heaps of men.

======
EUROPE
======

Wigan - 5.9/10
* Wigan is a very good team. They're pretty big, and good running
capabilities. They are the best
in Europe. They're good runners. Again just run around them in a challenge,
it's the best for
most teams. Some players are slow though, because they're too heavy.

Castleford -

Halifax -

London -

Oldham -

Paris -

St. Helens -

Warrington -

Sheffield -

Workington -

* Europe will be completed aswell as some new things when I update to
version 1.0 *

Conclusion
***********
All I can really say now is HAVE FUN. Well I'm waiting for an NRL game on
the Ps2. Maybe sometime EA
will make another GOOD GAME. I think ARL was good because it was original.
If some other company like
Konami or Capcom made it then we'd have much more.
