Zoids is primarily a model kit franchise where the models have a robotic
dinosaur theme. Over time, a story was developed to go along with the models,
and merchandise such as comics and video games made appearances. In fact,
there are modern video games still being made such as Zoids Assault for the
XBox 360. The NES/Famicom game Zoids: Chuuou Tairiku no Tatakai (translated
as Zoids: Battle of the Central Continent) is an action/RPG hybrid. Battles
take the form of a first-person shooter, while exploration of the world map
and towns and the ability to level up gives the game an overall RPG feel.
There are two other Zoids games for the NES/Famicom. Zoids 2 is a sequel to
the one presented here, while Zoids: Mokushiroku is a strategy game.
Your first impression of Zoids will probably be pretty bad just based on
the ugly graphics. The colors used for the game look horrible, but you will
get used to it pretty quickly. The battle system is pretty different for a
game of this type, but it does get repetitive and it's not very challenging.
Overall, I found it to be a refreshing change from your typical RPG, but it
is certainly flawed. It is fairly fast to play through, however, so you may
have some fun with it.

The storyline of this game is very simple. The empire, lead by Emperor
Zenebas, is trying to take over the Zoids civilization (this is all taking
place on another planet). You are a member of the Republic, who is fighting
against the empire for its freedom. At the beginning of the game, the empire
has nearly conquered the entire Zoids civilization. It is up to you to fight
back against the empire and overthrow Emperor Zenebas. It is not clear from
this game, but if you play the sequel, you will find that there are people
driving the Zoids. The Zoids are robotic creations that have been infused
with Life Energy, so they are supposedly living creatures as well.

Below are the characters available for you to obtain for your party. You can
only have 3 allies maximum (not including Gojulas), so if you want to recruit
a fourth ally, you will be forced to discard one of your other allies. Any
character that you have removed from your party can rejoin your party be
returning to the location where you originally found that character.

Gojulas - The main character of the game. A t-rex type Zoid. He will be
upgraded to the MK2 version of himself if you collect all four MK2
pieces. The change is reflected in the character graphic in the
        status menu.
Salamander - A pterodactyl type Zoid. Able to scout ahead on the world map
without getting attacked. Has low strength and defense, but high
speed. Found at the Republic's Last Fortress.
Gordos - A stegosaurus type Zoid. Has high defense but a weak attack and slow
speed. Found at the Republic's Last Fortress.
Mammoth - A woolly mammoth type Zoid. Has high defense and a weak attack.
        Found at Grey Fortress.
Shieldliger - A sabertooth tiger type Zoid. High high very high attack,
defense, and speed. Found in Cooper Town.
Barigator - An alligator type Zoid. Has fairly high attack and weak defense.
        Found in Lake Fortress.
Snakes - A snake type Zoid. Has pretty weak stats. Found in Illusion Town.
Ultrasaurus - A brontosaurus type Zoid. Has extremely high attack and
defense, but slow speed. To obtain him, it is required to collect
five body parts to build him (head, legs, torso, tail, and cannon),
you need an item called Life Energy which brings life to the Zoid,
and you need to rescue the doctor who has the ability to assemble
him. When using him in battle, attack by pressing "A" since he only
        attacks with a cannon.

---Exploring the World Map---------------------------------------------------
While exploring the world map, you will engage in battles with enemy
Zoids. Enemy Zoids can be seen scattered about the map, and they will chase
you until they contact you, at which point a battle will commence. However,
there are also hidden enemies on the map that will engage you when you step
on the tile on which they are hidden. This makes it feel like there are
random encounters, but no, you could avoid the battle if you knew where the
enemy was hidden. If you have a pterodactyl ally, he can scout the world map
ahead of you and "scare up" these enemies, so you can try to avoid them if
you really want to put in the effort.
You can run from enemies during battle, but you have to push the
directional arrow to move away from them or else they will just engage you
again. Unfortunately, the "hidden" enemies on the world map appear on top of
you, so you can never get away from them, and running is useless.

---Password System-----------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, you have to enter long passwords in this game to
continue. To get your current password, you need to visit certain allies that
are located in many, but not all, of the "towns" in the game. The allies that
give you your password are indicated in the walkthrough below. They will only
give you your password if there are no enemies left on the screen. Some of
the Japanese characters require accent symbols to enter correctly, which look
like double quotes or a degrees symbol. To put these accents over a
character, first enter the character you want to accent, and then select the
accent symbol. Select おわり ("Finished") when you have completed entering
the password. The command すすむ ("Advance") advances to the next character,
and the command もどる ("Return") returns to the previous character.

---Leveling Up---------------------------------------------------------------
You level up by winning battles just like in any RPG, except the game
never tells you how much experience you've earned or how much more you need
to level up. When you have enough experience you won't level up
automatically. You have to visit a friendly character that gives you your
password. Before giving you your password, he will tell you that you've
leveled up, and then the level up will go into effect. If you have the
Communications Device, you will automatically level up without having to
visit one of these allies. I suppose because the level up is a result of your
commanding officer promoting you, and you need to communicate with them to
learn about the promotion.

---Healing and Death in the Party--------------------------------------------
You can heal for free by visiting certain allies that are scattered
about the various "towns" in the game. These allies are indicated in the
walkthrough. They will only heal you if there are no enemies left on the
screen. You can also heal your party using the Energy Tank, which is a little
glitchy, so see the "Items" section for a full description. You can use it
infinitely if you only use it outside of battle, which I think is a bug in
the programming, and makes it so you will basically never die unless you're
really careless.
If Gojulas dies, you get a game over and have to start over using one of
your passwords. If one of your allies dies, he will be removed from your
party. You can get him back in your party by visiting the location from where
you originally recruited him.
If you have Gustav, he will be able to carry your fallen comrades. This
means, they will remain in your party, but you have to heal the fallen ally
using an Energy Tank or by returning to a town before you can use the ally
during battle again.

---Liberating Territories----------------------------------------------------
Except for the first two locations in the game, all of the locations in
the game are infested with enemies. You can "liberate" a screen by killing
all of the enemies on the screen. So, for example, you visit a new town and
there are enemies. If you kill one of them and leave, he will reappear when
you enter again. But if you kill all of the enemies before leaving, they will
remain dead for the rest of the game.
This liberation works screen by screen. So if you liberate floor 1 of a
town, that floor will always be free of enemies, even though maybe you
haven't liberated floor 2.
There is of course no liberation for the world map. Enemies will just
always appear there.

---Battles-------------------------------------------------------------------
The battle system is very simple. You push the "B" button to fire your
regular gun, and if the character you are using has a cannon, press "A" to
fire a cannon shot. In the lower-left window of the screen you have your life
bar and a radar that shows where the enemies are relative to where you are
facing.
All enemies move back and forth on the screen in the same pattern, so
all enemies are basically the same except for their attack and defensive
strengths and their speeds. The enemies only fire when they are about to
change direction. So they will either fire when they are all the way to the
left, or when they are all the way to the right, during their movement
pattern. If an enemy fires when he is moving left, then he will continue to
fire only when he is moving left for the duration of the battle. In fact,
all the enemies during that battle with only fire when they are moving left.
Similarly, if an enemy fires while moving right, then you know that he and
all the other enemies will only fire while they are moving right.
Enemies cannot attack you from behind. Their shots only hurt you if they
hit the center of your visual screen. So if a bullet is coming at you, move
over to the side a bit and it will miss. With a little practice, you will get
the hang of how much you have to move to dodge.
The general strategy for a fight is to first note whether the enemies
are firing when they are on the right or left side of their movement pattern.
Once you've noted that, approach the enemies from the opposite side. Let's
say for example an enemy fires when he is to the far left of his movement
pattern. Then, you should approach him from the right side, shoot him while
he is moving to the right, and when he gets to the far left of his movement
pattern and fires, move away from him so the bullet misses you.
You can change characters during battle if you want, like maybe if the
one you are using is about to die. You can bring up a menu during battles by
pressing "Select". From here, select the bottom option "Data". Then press
left or right to change the character displayed (if you have more than one).
Once you are displaying the character you want to use, press "B" to go back
to the battle menu, then select the top option "Fight" to continue the
battle. You will now be fighting using a different character.

はなす - "Talk". Talk to friendly characters.
しらべる - "Search". Search for hidden stairs.
つかう - "Use". Use the Key or the Energy Tank if you have them.
でーた - "Data". Shows character stats and inventory. It's in English, so I
        think it's self explanatory.

While wandering the world map, the above "Talk" command is replaced by the
ていさつ ("Scout") command. If you have a pterodactyl type ally, he will be
able to fly around the world map without getting attacked so you can scout
out what is in your vicinity. The range is limited.

Tiger Underwear (とらのぱんつ) - No effect, just supposed to be funny. Found
        in Capital City.
Communications Device (つうしんき) - Allows you to level up immediately after
winning a battle instead of having to visit a password-giving ally.
        Found in Capital City.
Gustav (ぐすたふ) - Can carry your fallen comrades (see "Death in the Party"
section for more info). Also, if you have the Float, Gustav can
carry you over water. Found in Croquette Fortress.
Computer (こんぴゅーたー) - One of the 4 MK2 parts. Found in Croquette
        Fortress.
Key (かぎ) - Allows you to find hidden stairs that are not revealed by
searching. These stairs allows warp you to a different location,
usually the Lake Fortress. Found in Grey Fortress.
Armor Parts (そうこう ぱーつ) - One of the 4 MK2 parts. Found in Cooper Town.
Pteras (ぷてらす) - Can scout the world map ahead of you without getting
attacked. Found in Grand Fortress, but only if Salamander is not in
        your party.
4-Shot Rapid Fire Gun (4れんそくしゃほう) - One of the 4 MK2 parts. Gojulas'
regular attack is changed to a rapid firing attack, but only targets
the left side of the screen effectively. Found in the Republic
        Factory.
Energy Tank (えねるぎーたんく) - Fully restores energy of all party members.
The effect of this item is glitchy: If you use it during battle, it
is consumed and removed from your inventory. But if you use it
outside of battle, it is not consumed, although it still heals your
party. However, if you have Pteras in your inventory, he will be
removed from your inventory instead. If you do not have Pteras, then
using this item has no negative consequence, you simply can heal all
of your party to maximum as many times as you want. If you lose
Pteras from this glitch, you can always get him again by returning
        to Grand Fortress.
Cannon (きゃのんほう) - One of the 4 MK2 parts. If you have this, you can
fire a cannon during battle by pressing the "A" button when you are
        using Gojulas.
Booster (ぶーすたー) - Increases Gojulas' speed during battle.
PC Card (PCかーど) - Ally's can restore your energy even if you have not
annihilated all enemies on the screen.
Ultrasaurus Tail (うるとらざうるすのしっぽ) - One of 5 Ultrasaurus parts.
Ultrasaurus Torso (うるとらざうるすのどうたい) - One of 5 Ultrasaurus parts.
Radiator (れいきゃく) - Increases Gojulas' speed.
Float (ふろーと) - If you have this and Gustav, you can float upon the water.
Ultrasaurus Head (うるとらざうるすのあたま) - One of 5 Ultrasaurus parts.
Life Energy (せいめいえねるぎいー) - Needed to bring Ultrasaurus to life.
Ultrasaurus Cannon (うるとらざうるすのきゃのんほう) - One of 5 Ultrasaurus
        parts.
Ultrasaurus Legs (うるとらざうるすのあし) - One of 5 Ultrasaurus parts.

                      ---= Capital City Region =---               [sec6a]
                         =======================

---Capital City (しゅと)---
You begin the game in Capital City, the Republic headquarters. You are in the
president's room. He simply says that you need to save the Republic from
crisis. The guy next to him says that you need to search for brave people to
help you fight. Go down the stairs.

Directly below the stairs you came down is a red t-rex type Zoid. Be careful
when you talk to him. If you say "yes" (はい) to him two times, you will get
a game over. Instead, don't talk to him, or say "no" or "yes" then "no". You
get the game over because you agree to quit fighting if you say yes twice.

There is a character you need to talk to here, located on the far left-side
of the screen. He is just above the grassy area and looks like a turtle type
Zoid (These Zoids are called Gustavs). Talk to him 2 times and you here that
he can't move and that he needs you to find his younger brother.

There are two items you can get in town. The first is the Tiger Underwear. Go
down from the above mentioned turtle Zoid into the grassy area. The first
small room on the left has a snake type Zoid in it. Talk to him to get the
Tiger Underwear (とらのぱんつ). It's actually a useless item, but doesn't it
feel good to find stuff?

A more useful item is hidden in an underground basement. To find it, go to
the upper-right section of town, where there is watery land and grass
connected by bridges. If you enter that area, you will find that you cannot
pass through the bottom middle tile. This means that there is a hidden
stairwell here. There are hidden stairwells like this in every fortress, and
you can find them by walking around and looking for tiles that you cannot go
through. To make the stairwell appear, face the tile and press the "A" button
to bring up the menu. Then select Search (しらべる). Down the stairwell, you
find a t-rex Zoid that will give you the Communications Device (つうしんき).
This makes it so that when you have enough experience to level up, you will
instantly level up. Normally, you would have to visit a fortress with a
friendly character that gives you your password. Before giving you your
password, he would tell you that you've leveled up, and then the level up
would go into effect.

In town, you hear that the only fortress that hasn't fallen to the empire is
to the West.

OK, so that's everything in this location, so let's exit to the world map. On
the world map, you can experience your first battles. See the "Exploring the
World Map" section and "Battles" section above for details. For now, head
South until you exit the mountain pass, then West to find a fortress. It's
best to avoid the enemies for now since you don't yet have your password to
continue from this point.

---Republic's Last Fortress (きょうわこくさいごのとりで)---
The fortress you find after traveling West is the last fortress that hasn't
been overrun by the empire. Therefore, there are no enemies. There are two
important characters to note here. One replenishes your energy to maximum,
and the other gives you your password. The turtle-looking Zoid just above and
a little to the left of the water in the middle of the fortress will give you
your password.

To replenish your energy, go into the building located at the top of the
screen and talk to the t-rex type Zoid there. Say "yes" to have your energy
refilled.

You can also gain two allies in this fortress. The first is Salamander. He is
the pterodactyl type Zoid located in the room in the Southwest corner of the
screen. Say "yes" to have him join. The second ally is Gordos, a stegosaurus
type Zoid. To find him, go up the stairs located on the East side of the
screen. In this building, go to the Southeast corner of the screen to find
him. Say "yes" to have him join.

From here, there are several locations you can visit, and the order doesn't
matter. We could go for the closest location, which is the factory to the
North. You may need to gain some levels before you can safely wander very far
from this fortress, however, depending on how good you are at the battles.
Make use of your new allies as well to make your treks more productive.

---Republic Factory (きょうわこくのこうじょう)---
To find the Republic Factory, go North from the Republic's Last Fortress
until you reach the river. Follow the river North and you will find a path
that goes through the mountains. The factory is just on the other side of the
mountain pass, a little to the North.

This is your first experience with an enemy-invaded territory. There are
allies and enemies in the factory. The enemies are colored reddish. You can
"liberate" enemy-invaded territories by killing all of the enemies on the
screen. See the "Liberating Territories" section for more info.

You can find a hidden staircase in the Northeast corner of the factory. Once
again, look for the tile that you cannot walk through, and use the "Search"
command while facing it.

In the basement, go all the way to the right side of the screen to find a
t-rex type ally. Talk to him to receive the 4-Shot Rapid Fire Gun
(4れんそくしゃほう). Now Gojulas' regular attack will be upgraded.

---Croquette Fortress (くろけっと とりで)---
From the Republic's Last Fortress, go slightly North until you can go West,
then go West to find Croquette Fortress. To get to the fortress, go around
the North side of the surrounding mountains to find the entrance.

Inside the fortress, you will fight your first Iron Kong, one of the toughest
enemies in the game. Your battle strategy is the same, but it hurts a lot
more if you make a mistake and he hits you.

The woolly mammoth Zoid at the top of the screen will give you your current
password and the alligator Zoid toward the Southeast end of the screen will
refill your energy. However, as always, you have to clear the area of enemies
before they will offer you these services.

If you search the tile below the energy-filling alligator, you will find a
Gustav. If you talked to the Gustav in the Capital City who was looking for
his brother, this Zoid will join you. You have to talk to him twice for him
to offer to join you. He is actually more like an item, called Gustav
(ぐすたふ), and doesn't take up one of your 3 ally slots. He can carry fallen
comrades (see "Death in the Party" section for details) and if you have a
Float, he can carry your party over water.

Search the tile below the password-giving woolly mammoth Zoid to find hidden
stairs. A t-rex type Zoid there will give you the Computer (おんぴゅーたー),
one of the four MK2 items.

---Grey Fortress (ぐれい とりで)---
From Croquette Fortress, go around the surrounding mountains via the Northern
side, heading East as if you were headed back to the Republic's Last
Fortress. But instead, when you see an opening in the mountains to the South,
head South. After a fairly long walk, you will find Grey Fortress.

Here, a t-rex Zoid in the lower-right side of the screen will refill your
energy, and a woolly mammoth Zoid in the upper-right side of the screen will
give you your password.

A woolly mammoth Zoid named Mammoth will join your party if you talk to him.
He is toward the right side of the screen.

Enter the building here and you will find a woolly mammoth Zoid in the upper-
left section of the screen that will give you the Key (かぎ). Use the Key to
find hidden stairs that are not revealed by using the "Search" command when
you find a tile that you cannot go through. Use the "Use" (つかう) command
instead and select the Key.

---Cooper Town (くっぱーのまち)---
Go just a little South from Grey Fortress to find Cooper Town.

An alligator Zoid in the lower-left corner of town will restore your energy
and a stegosaurus Zoid in the upper-right corner gives you your password.

Talk to the sabretooth tiger Zoid in the upper-left corner of town to get him
to join your party. His name is Shieldliger and he's a super powerful ally.
If you already had 3 allies, you will have to discard one of them to make
room for him in your party. It doesn't matter who.

Enter the building in the upper-left corner of town. Go downstairs to the
basement and talk to the t-rex Zoid in the lower-right area of the screen to
get the Armor Parts (そうこう ぱーつ), one of the four MK2 items.

---Grand Fortress (ぐらんど とりで)
Southwest from the Croquette Fortress you can find another location called
the Grand Fortress.

If Salamander is not in your party, a pterodactyl Zoid will be at the bottom
of the screen. Talk to him and he will join you. He is actually an item
called Pteras (ぷてらす) and does not take up a slot in your party. He can
scout ahead on the world map without getting attacked if you select the
"Scout" (ていさつ) command. Salamander also has this ability, which is why
you don't need both.

---Cook Fortress (くっく とりで)---
If you go North from the Grand Fortress, you can find paths that goes through
some mountains. Take the North path, then go a little East to find Cook
Fortress.

A Gustav Zoid in the upper-right corner restores your energy and a t-rex Zoid
in the upper-right corner gives you your password.

Go down the stairs in the upper-left corner, then go down another set of
stairs to reach the second basement. Here, talk to a Gustav Zoid in the
lower-left portion of the screen to get the Energy Tank (えねるぎーたんく).
It's a very useful item, but glitchy. See the "Items" section for a detailed
description.

Go down to the 3rd Basement and talk to the t-rex Zoid to get the Cannon
(きゃのんほう). It's one of the four MK2 items, and can be used in battle by
pressing "A". Search the tile in the upper-left corner to find the stairs out.

---Lake Fortress (みずうみ とりで)---
Go South from Grand Fortress until you see an opening in the mountains to the
West, then follow the path to find Lake Fortress.

Here, you learn that it requires 5 parts to build Ultrasaurus. Also, you hear
that an important doctor was taken by the empire.

A pterodactyl Zoid in the lower-right corner refills your energy and a
stegosaurus Zoid in the lower-right corner gives you your password.

In the upper-left corner of the screen, you find a tile that you cannot go
through, just up and to the right of the tree. This suggests hidden stairs,
but searching reveals nothing. Instead, use the Key to reveal the stairs.
Careful! If you go down the stairs, you will instantly warp to the Republic's
Last Fortress. Handy only if you need to backtrack.

Go in the building on the right side of the screen. You can talk to the
alligator Zoid, Barigator, to get him to join your party if you like. In this
room, search the lower-right tile to find stairs. They take you to the world
map, South of the Lake Fortress so you can progress in the game.

                      ============================
                   ---= Beyond the Lake Fortress =---             [sec6b]
                      ============================

---Illusion Castle (いりゅーしょんのしろ)---
Follow the path from the Lake Fortress until you exit the mountain pass.
Then, go South until an opening appears in the East. Go East and later a
little North to find the Illusion Castle.

An alligator Zoid in the upper-left corner restores your energy.

Use the Key on the tile in the lower-left corner to reveal stairs that will
take you back to Lake Fortress.

The room with a triceratops that is above and to the right of the castle
entrance has a tile that can be searched to reveal a staircase going to the
castle basement. Find the stairs going down to the 2nd basement, then talk to
the woolly mammoth Zoid in the upper-right corner to get the Booster
(ぶーすたー) which increases Gojulas' speed. Search the lower-right tile to
find the stairs out.

---Illusion Town (いりゅーしょんのまち)---
You can find Illusion Town just slightly South from the Illusion Castle.

Here, an alligator Zoid in the lower-right corner will restore your energy
and you can get Snakes, the snake type Zoid in the upper-right corner, to
join your party.

---Ganimede Castle (がにめでのしろ)---
Ganimede Castle is directly West across the "desert" from where you exited
the mountain pass when traveling from the Lake Fortress.

A stegosaurus Zoid located up and to the left of the entrance will restore
your energy.

In the upper-right end of the screen is a grassy area. Use the Key in the
upper-left tile of that room to reveal stairs that will warp you back to Lake
Fortress.

Search the tile in the lower-right corner of the castle to find stairs down
to the basement. Search the tile that's 1 down and 6 to the left from the
stairs you came down to find another staircase leading down. In the 2nd
basement, talk to the Gustav to get the PC Card (PCかーど).

---Ganimede Town (がにめでの)---
Ganimede Town is just South of Ganimede Castle.

A stegosaurus Zoid in the lower-right end refills your energy and a Gustav in
the upper-right end gives you your password.

During one of the battles here, one of the enemies that attacks you says it
is a Gustav. Actually, this means that when you win the fight a Gustav will
be released. Talk to this Gustav after the fight and he will give you the
Ultrasaurus Tail (うるとらざうるすのしっぽ). You will often come across
Gustavs like this, but they don't always give you an item.

---Dalios Castle (だりおすのしろ)---
Go North from Ganimede Castle to the opening in the mountains and follow the
path, making your way East then North. When you exit the mountain paths,
Dalios Castle will be in sight.

A snake Zoid to the left of the entrance refills your energy and a
stegosaurus Zoid to the right of the entrance gives you your password.

Go down two staircases to the 2nd basement. There, you can release a Gustav
in a battle with an enemy toward the left end of the screen. That Gustav will
give you the Ultrasaurus Torso (うるとらざうるすのどうたい).

---Valecia Castle (ばれしあのしろ)---
From Dalios Castle, go East and then North to find Valecia Castle.

There is a stegosaurus Zoid at the top of the screen that will recover your
energy and a woolly mammoth Zoid in the lower-left corner gives you your
password.

Left of the entrance and just a little up is a grassy area. In the upper-
right corner of that area is a tile that you can use the Key on to reveal
stairs that warp you back to the Lake Fortress.

Someone in the castle says that there is a fortress surrounded by mountains,
but how do you get there?

Enter the building. The stairs can be a little confusing here. First, go down
any stairs except the ones all the way in the upper-right corner of the
screen. On the next floor, go down the stairs in the upper-left corner. Next,
go down the stairs in the lower-right corner. Talk to the woolly mammoth Zoid
to get the Radiator (れいきゃく), which makes Gojulas' speed increase.

Back on the first floor, go down the stairs that were all the way in the
upper-right corner. Next, go down the only stairs available and you will
appear in a new area, which is actually the bottom floor of the Empire
Fortress.

---Empire Fortress (ようさい)---
Search the upper-right tile to find stairs that go back to the previous area
when you want to leave. Go up the upper-left stairs to continue farther into
the Empire Fortress.

Go up the stairs to the right of the stairs you just came up from and you
will appear next to a t-rex Zoid who gives you the Float (ふろーと). Now, if
you also have Gustav, you can float upon water. This is the only item in the
Empire Fortress, so backtrack to Valecia Castle unless you want to completely
"liberate" the Empire Fortress.

If you do, when you exit the building to the fortress courtyard, you will
find a Gustav Zoid to the right of the building you exited that will give you
your password. Also, a room at the lower-right portion of the screen has a
tile that you can use the Key on to make a stairway appear that will take you
back to the Lake Fortress.

                          ====================
                       ---= Northern Islands =---                 [sec6c]
                          ====================

---Ancient Ruins (こだいいせき)---
Now that you can float on water, you can go to the "holy lands" that are on
an island to the North of the main continent, but it is not so easy to find.
From Valecia Castle, you can find a pier a little to the Northwest, which is
the only place you can enter the water from. Follow the shoreline East for a
good distance. Use the "Scout" command to find out when you are North of Cook
Fortress. When you are North of Cook Fortress, go North a really, really long
way to find an island. It's so far, you'll think you must have missed it. A
pier is on the East end of the island, so go there to get on land. The go to
the Northwest end of the island to find the Ancient Ruins.

A Gustav appears after you win a battle with an Iron Kong a little North from
the entrance. He gives you the Ultrasaurus Head (うるとらざうるすのあたま).

Another Zoid here tells you that the doctor was taken to the far West.

---Western Verges Factory---
From Ancient Ruins island dock, sail West until you are past the island, then
go North about one screen. Then go West a super, super long way to find
another island. It is so far you will be absolutely sure you missed it. Even
farther than the last time I said the same thing. It is a small island with a
factory.

In the factory, go down stairs to the first basement. You find the doctor in
the lower-right corner of the screen. He says, "Thanks for saving me. I'll go
on ahead and wait." Then he disappears. Go down another set of stairs to the
2nd basement and you will release a Gustav by fighting an Iron Kong. The
Gustav gives you Life Energy (せいめいえねるぎいー).

To get back to civilization, you have to go Southeast quite a distance to
find the main continent.

---Island Town (しまのまち)---
From pier near Valecia Castle, go directly West until you reach a streak of
water that goes between two sections of land. Go through the water, then go
North along the West coast of the island until you pass the island, then
continue North for a little way until you see a pier on a new island. It is a
large island, and you can find Island Town all the way at the Northwest edge
of the island.

You can fight an Iron Kong here to release a Gustav who gives you the
Ultrasaurus Cannon (うるとらざうるすのきゃのんほう).

Another Zoid here tells you to search the river in the fortress South of
Zenebas Castle.

                    ==============================
                 ---= Approaching Zenebas Castle =---             [sec6d]
                    ==============================

---Empire Factory---
From the pier Northwest of Valecia Castle, follow along the coast to the West
and South. You will come to a part where the water flows between an island to
the North and the continent to the South. Go South along the land and you
will come across a pier. Go East from the pier to reach the Empire Factory.
Exit off the South side of the screen to exit the factory to the world map
when you're ready to leave.

In the upper-left corner of the first floor, you can beat an Iron Kong to
release a Gustav who gives you the Ultrasaurus Legs (うるとらざうるすのあし).
Now you have all the Ultrasaurus parts and the Life Energy, so you can return
to the Republic Factory to find the doctor and get the Ultrasaurus if you
want, but you can also do it later if you don't want to backtrack all that
way.

Go down the stairs on the left side of the screen to find a stegosaurus in
the lower-right corner of the basement if you want to get your password.

---Ultrasaurus---
After rescuing the doctor, finding all 5 Ultrasaurus parts, and finding the
Life Energy, you can return to the Republic Factory to get the Ultrasaurus to
join your party. In the factory, go down the hidden stairs in the upper-right
corner of the screen, then find the doctor at the top of the screen toward
the middle of the room. The Ultrasaurus will be standing next to him, so talk
to the doctor to add the Ultrasaurus to your party.

---South Passage Fortress---
Go South from the Empire Factory until you find an opening in the mountain
ranges. Continue South through here and eventually you will find a fortress.
From here, you can see Zenebas Castle to the North.

There is nothing to do in this fortress. However, you need to find the exit
that will take you South from the fortress so you can continue on to Zenebas
Castle. The exit can be found by searching the river tile to the left of the
bridge that's in the upper portion of the screen. Enter the stairs you find
and you will pop out on the world map, South of the fortress.

---Zenebas Castle---
Follow straightforward path from the South Passage Fortress to reach Zenebas
Castle.

A woolly mammoth Zoid here will restore your energy.

If you want to return to the Lake Fortress, go all the way around the castle
in a clockwise direction to the room that is to the right of the entrance.
There is a tile here that you can use the Key on to reveal stairs that will
take you to the Lake Fortress.

To find the hidden stairs to the basement, search the room that is near the
center of the screen, just to the right and below the woolly mammoth Zoid.

In the first basement, go down the stairs just above and to the right from
where you came down. In the second basement, go down the stairs to the left
of where you came down. Go down the stairs in the third basement. In the
fourth basement, go down the stairs near the lower-right side of the screen.

You are now in a small room surrounded by 4 Iron Kongs. Search any corner to
find stairs, but the lower-right corner is the only one that has stairs down.
The others lead back up. The next floor down has another four Iron Kongs, but
this time the stairs down are in the lower-left corner. One more room with
Iron Kongs. This time, the stairs down are in the upper-right corner.

You are now in a larger room, and you will notice there is a new type of
enemy to the right of where you came down: the Deathsaurer. Make sure you
keep your energy levels high by using the Energy Tank since battles with the
Deathsaurers are quite a bit tougher. The Deathsaurer does a lot more damage
than other enemies you've faced and has a ridiculously high amount of energy.
Fighting two Deathsaurers at once is very difficult. When they are behind
you, they move super fast for some reason, so you can't control which side of
the screen they approach you from. If you are surrounded on both sides,
quickly hit "Select" to bring up your menu. Then select "Fight" again. When
you return to the battle, the enemy locations will be changed, so you have a
chance of getting into a better attack position. If not, open the menu again
and repeat until you like your position.

Make your way to the lower-left section of the screen. There are hidden
stairs near here, not in the room room in the lower-left corner, but one room
over to the right from there. The stairs are in the upper-right corner of
that room. Go down the stairs and...

It's Emperor Zenebas! Approach him and you will fight a single Deathsaurer.
Pretty easy by now, right? But wait! After you beat him, don't touch
anything! Not even the directional arrows! Read below.

---Endgame---
After defeating the emperor, you get congratulated. The message says that the
emperor is finally defeated thanks to your bravery. If you touch anything,
you instantly get a "game over" screen, and it seems like that was the end of
the game. Pretty unsatisfactory ending, huh? Actually, after defeating the
emperor, don't touch anything, not even the control arrows. If you wait for
about 1 minute of real time, another message will suddenly appear saying that
the Capital City is under attack and that you should hurry back. Now it's ok
to touch the controls again. The Capital City is a long ways away. Return to
the ground floor and use the hidden staircase that will warp you to the Lake
Fortress.

In the Lake Fortress, use the hidden stairway to warp to the Republic's Last
Fortress. Go a little East to find 5 Deathsaurers blocking the path to the
Capital City. Be prepared for some tough two-Deathsaurer-at-a time battles.
Use your Energy Tank to restore your energy to full between battles if
needed. You can run from these battles if you need to, but you have to push
the directional arrows to get away or else they will just engage you again.
You have to defeat all the Deathsaurers to save the Capital City. After
beating them, head North to Capital City.

The townspeople line the entrance to Capital City to congratulate you on your
victory and thank you for saving them. Now, you get to see the real ending.
