1. Introduction
**********
What does one get when they cross a bad public service announcement, a poorly
thought out mascot, and an unlicensed game developer?.. Wally Bear and the NO!
Gang. American Game Cartridges can be given credit for this "master piece" of
a game. It is obvious the intentions of the game were good, taking a machine
popular with kids {NES} and using it as a medium for anti-drug messages.
Sadly, the intention may of been good, but the game is terrible. At least we
can laugh at the funny dialogue between the characters!

2. Game Story - Ride Wally, Ride!
**********
Wally Bear is a member of the NO! Gang. This gang is no normal gang. It works
like a youth support group. They help each other get through life's
rough spots that deal with drugs/stealing/alcohol/peer pressure etc. You must
navigate Wally from his home to his Uncle's house for a party. You will meet
up with many friends along the way. This guide will chronicle the interactions
between Wally and his friends throughout the journey.

3. Cast of Characters
***********
Wally Bear
Wally is the Hero of our heartwarming story of making the right choices. He
lives in a posh suburban house with white siding, and even a picket fence.
Wally has two loving parents who have taught him right from wrong. Wally is
even a local anti-drug/tobacco/alcohol activist. He is the founder of the
anti-everything bad youth group known as the NO! Gang. Wally has other hobbies
other than anti-drug activism. He likes to skateboard and play Frisbee.
Wally's Dad
He's your typical Bear father. He has a lovely suburban home, a lovely wife
and a responsible young son. He has a wonderful six figure job at the local
State Park. Being no fashion slouch, Wally's Dad wears a yellow shirt without
pants, which is all the rage. All in all, Wally's Dad is a caring, amicable,
loving, father.
Wally's Mom
Despite living the lap of bear luxury, she isn't completely happy. Despite the
fact that she loves her son and husband very much - her life still feels empty.
Every morning she wakes up and puts on a mask of yellow makeup and a
yellow dress. Though she is having seconds thoughts about her life, she is
still a devoted mother.
Billy Rabbit
One of the usual suspects around town. He may be a member of the NO! Gang,
but there is a rumor floating around that he may be thinking of joining Ricky
Rat's gang. Wally finds him acting strangely in the Subway Station. He seems
very concerned about something. It is obvious his mind was somewhere else
while dressing this morning. He is wearing a red and gray checkered shirt with
blue jeans. Strange indeed....
Toby Turtle
Toby is a member of the NO! Gang, but suffers from low self-esteem. He is a
slow witted & overweight turtle. Always feeling the need to fit in, he falls
prey to the newest fads often. Case and point.... his new found interest in
controlled substances.
Toby is being picked on by Ricky Rat. Ricky keeps calling Toby names and
saying he's not cool. Ricky tells Toby the only way he'll be cool is if he
does drugs. Will Wally be able to save his friend from the evils of drug abuse
and low self esteem?... only time will tell...
Priscilla
Priscilla is a bit of a metal head albeit a sober one. She had been rocking
out in the neighborhood subway station when that vile ol' druglord Ricky Rat
came a long and stole her new radio. Will she ever find her ghetto blaster
again?
Tattle Tiger
Tattle is a tiger as his name implies. He is also a bit of a tattle tale,
which his name also implies. He is a car enthuse and enjoys hanging out at
garages. He has been seen downtown recently at a parking garage where he saw
his friend, Larry Lizard acting strange.
Stevie Squirrel
Stevie is one of the finest members of the NO! Gang. He does have a bit of
sweet tooth though. Sometimes his craving for sweets clouds his judgement.
Will Stevie's desire for sugary snacks be his downfall?
Gary Grizzly
Gary is Wally's swinging, single, uncle. In typical bachelor bear style, he
wears only a yellow shirt. Gary acts as an older brother figure to the
NO! Gang. Some say he only hangs out with the kids because of his court
ordered community service, but I think otherwise.
**********
4. Level 1 Dialogue - Inside Wally's House
**********
Wally's Dad Uncle Gary Grizzly has been planning a party for you and the
NO! Gang. Invite all your friends, and try to reach his house
before dark.
Wally's Mom Take care Wally, and remember to say NO!
Stay smart! Don't start!
Wally Bear Don't worry Mom, I will remember.
**********
5. Level 2 Dialogue - The Subway Station Drug Deal
**********
Billy Rabbit Ricky Rat was trying to get Toby Turtle to join his gang. He said
that Toby would have to take some pills. I tried to stop them,
but they wouldn't let me on the subway.
Wally Bear Wait here Billy, maybe I can help!
**********
6. Level 3 Dialogue - Wally to the Rescue!
**********
Wally Bear Taking drugs is stupid, Toby. If someone doesn't like you
because you say no, he's not your friend. {Preach it Wally!!}
Toby Turtle Thanks Wally. I didn't what to do.
Wally Bear You don't have to go along with the crowd to be cool. It's OK
to be yourself.
**********
7. Level 4 Dialogue - Rock n' Roll Wally!
**********
Priscilla Oh Wally, You're just in time. That awful Ricky Rat just stole
my new radio. He ran into the subway before I could get through
the crowd.
Wally Bear Hurry, Priscilla, we can still catch him!
**********
8. Level 5 Dialogue - Wally Saves the Radio!
**********
Priscilla Thanks, Wally, I saved for a long time to buy this radio. I'm
glad to get it back.
Wally Bear I'm glad too, Priscilla. Ricky needs to learn to respect other
peoples' property. Stealing can get you into a lot more trouble
than it's worth.
**********
9. Level 6 Dialogue - Don't Drink and Skate, Wally!
**********
Tattle Tiger I just saw Larry Lizard going into this garage. He was drinking
out of a strange looking bottle and acting really strange.
Wally Bear It sounds like Larry's been drinking. I'll try to stop him
before he hurts himself or someone else. Remember, even grownups
shouldn't drink and drive.
**********
10. Level 7 Dialogue - Wally Gone Mute in the Sewer?
**********
No dialogue is present here.
**********
11. Level 8 - Strangers With Candy... Look Out Wally!
**********
Stevie Watch out for a man giving away candy. He was trying to
trick me into his car. He even said he knew my family, but
I didn't know him, so I said NO!
Wally Bear Good job, Stevie. It's very dangerous to get in cars with
strangers. I will be careful.
**********
12. The Ending Screen - Gary Grizzly's Non-Alcoholic House Party
**********
Gary Grizzly Hello, Wally, we've all been waiting for you. I see
you've brought a new friend. Good, there's always room
for another No! Gang member. Hey, everybody, Wally's
here!
Wally Bear Always remember, if someone tries to make you do something, and
you know it's wrong,....... SAY NO!
**********
13. Closing Thoughts
**********
Well, our fun filled romp with Wally Bear and the NO! Gang has come to a happy
ending. We've learned several life lessons in our tenure with Wally. What did
we learn? I for one learned that taking drugs is bad and so is negative peer
pressure. I also learned that stealing is much easier than raising money for
a brand new radio. I was also stunned to find that taking candy from
strangers is not a good idea. Wally opened my eyes and changed my life...
thanks Wally Bear!
In all fairness, I'm not sure if this games' message actually got across to
anyone. It was a somewhat valiant attempt to use the medium of video games to
spread a helpful message to children. Wally Bear and the NO! Gang may of
failed in that aspect, but at least it tried. That's more than modern games
can say.
