SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam is a series in which the original Gundam
characters have been reimagined as medieval characters, such as knights,
wizards, kings, etc. You can find anime and manga on the internet pretty
easily if you're interested. The Famicom game is a Dragon Quest clone, but a
pretty well done one for the NES era.
Although the game is extremely similar to Dragon Quest in most respects,
there are a few battle commands that give you different strategic options,
and there are a lot of items that do unique things that may be fun to play
with.
Of course, the greatest draw of the game is that it is based on the
Knight Gundam characters. In this respect, the game does a very good job.
There are appearances from a wide variety of characters from the Gundam
shows, so I think people will not be disappointed if this is what drew them
to the game.
This guide is meant to help you play through the game even if your
Japanese is not very good. I've also explained the important story elements
as they occur in the game so you can follow along.

The king of Lacroa, King Revil, is basking in peace with his loyal subjects.
Princess Fraw decides to go outside for some fresh air and shortly after a
scream is heard. A monster has kidnapped her! He tells the king it is for
opposing Satan Gundam and that he is taking her into custody of the evil
Zeon. If he wants her back he must submit to the will of Satan Gundam. The
king calls out, "Call Knight Gundam!"

         between physical attacks and magic.
Sayla (セイラ) - Sayla is a knight who is traveling to find her long lost
brother. Her attack is weak compaired to most of the other
characters, but she learns a large number of spells.

doesn't learn magic, but he is very strong.
Guntank (ガンタンク) - Guntank is a priest and hero of Lacroa. His attack is
very weak, but he can learn most of the spells in the game. He is
by far the best magic user.

---Leveling Up                                                     [sec3a]
You level up in this game when you get enough experience points, just like in
most RPG's. In this one, some of your characters will gain new spells when
they level up. You will also appreciate the fact that a character that levels
up will have his/her HP and MP filled. This means you rarely need to visit an
inn to heal yourself.

---Exploration Menu                                                [sec3b]
While walking around the world map, dungeons, or towns, you can access the
following menu by pushing the "A" button:
はなす まほう
つよさ どうぐ
そうび しらべる
カードダス

The above commands have the following meaning:
はなす - "Talk". Talk to an NPC you are facing.
まほう - "Magic". Use magic spells.
つよさ - "Strength". Selecting this gives you three sub-commands:
じょうたい - "Status". Shows HP/MP of your active party.
のうりょく - "Ability". Shows all of the character's statistics and
                     spells he/she can use.
ならびかた - "Row Form". Change the order of characters in your
active party. Those that are in front are attacked more
                     often.
どうぐ - "Tools". Shows the items carried by each party member. If you select
an item, you get the following sub-commands:
        つかう - "Use"
        わたす - "Transfer"
        すてる - "Drop"
そうび - "Equipment". Select this to set the weapons/armor equipped to a
        particular character.
しらべる - "Search". Search the square you are standing on for items or
        messages.
カードダス - "Carddass". Shows the cards in your Carddass collection that can
        be used during Carddass battles.

---Battles and the Battle Menu                                     [sec3c]
Battles are very similar to Dragon Quest, so everything should be pretty
familiar to you. Like Dragon Quest, if you target an enemy and it is killed
before your turn, then you do not automatically target a different enemy, you
just lose your action for that turn. Another interesting factor in battle is
that, if you have party members that are not in your active party, but are
waiting at the castle, they will often show up during battles as a fifth
member to help you. You can't give them commands, and they just perform
physical attacks. As a result of this, there is a benefit to having them
equipped with good weapons and armor even though they are not in your active
party.

This game has a few battle commands that are different than you've seen in
your typical Dragon Quest clone game, which are found under the "Tactics"
(さくせん) command. Here, I explain the battle commands including these
special ones.

The battle menu has the following commands:
たたかう
まほう
どうぐ
さくせん

The meanings of these commands are:
たたかう - "Fight". Attack an enemy with your equipped weapon.
まほう - "Magic". Cast spells during battle.
どうぐ - "Tools". Use items carried by that particular character.
さくせん - "Tactics". This command gives you the following submenu:
しゅうちゅう - "Focus". All of your characters combine their attack into
one, which often does massive damage. Good for attacking a single
enemy when you don't need to use spells.
ぶんさん - "Dispersion". This is like an "Auto" command, where all of
your characters do a physical attack, but you don't have to set who
they attack. Who they target is randomly selected.
まわりこむ - "Go Around". Select a character to go around behind the
enemies. That character remains behind them for the rest of the
battle unless you call them back. Selecting this doesn't take up
your turn unless it "fails", in which case the enemies get a turn
to attack you. This command is replaced by the command "Return to
the Line" (しゅうちゅう), which will bring your character back to
         the front.
たいきゃく - "Retreat". Run from battle. This is most often successful
in this game, but when it's not, some of the enemies (but not
necessarily all of them) will get a free turn to attack you.

---Death in the Party                                              [sec3d]
If some of your party members die, but not all, you can return to any inn and
talk to a lady on the right side of the inn counter who will revive them for
free. Actually, you cannot save your game if any of your party members are
dead. You can also revive party members using the Spirit Ball item.

If all of your party members die, then you lose half of your money, but keep
all of your experience and items gained. You wake up at the last inn you
saved your game. To prevent losing your money when you die, you can buy some
insurance, which is pretty cheap. Talk to the lady on the right side of the
counter at any inn and she'll sell you the insurance. Now you can explore
recklessly and there will be no punishment for dying. If you do die, however,
make sure you buy the insurance again because you lose it when you die.

---Carddass                                                        [sec3e]
There is a card game in this game called Carddass. You can challenge certain
NPC's to Carddass battles in most towns, and when you win there are various
rewards. Usually the reward is just information. Here's how the game works:

There are two kinds of Carddass cards: (1) Fighter cards, and (2) Support
cards. Both players must choose a Fighter card, and those two cards will
engage in a turn-based battle using the statistics specified on their card.
The battles are just like normal battles, except you don't get to control
your actions. Each player can also choose a Support card, which will boost
the statistics of their Fighter card in some way, specified in the Support
card description, such giving the Fighter card a 20 HP bonus.

That's all there is to it. You get cards buy paying 20 Gold at vending
machines in almost any store in the game. You can look at the statistics of
the cards to find out which ones are the strongest, but you can tell which
cards are strong just based on which character they are from the main game. I
found winning Carddass battles requires almost no thought. Just pick a strong
character's card and your opponent almost always has a weak card, so there's
usually no challenge.

When you begin a Carddass battle, you are first prompted to select a card.
After choosing one, you have the following options:
ちがうカードをえらぶ
おたすけカードをたす
バトルかいし!

These options have the following meaning:
ちがうカードをえらぶ - "I selected the wrong card". You will be able to
         choose a different card instead.
おたすけカードをたす - "Use a support card". You will be able to select a
support card to boost the statistics of your fighter card.
バトルかいし! - "Begin Battle!".

---Lacroa---
When you begin, you must choose a message speed: Fast (はやい), Normal
(ふつう), Slow (おそい). Then enter your name. Next choose whether you are
Male (おとこ) or female (おんな).

GM Sniper (ジムスナイパー) comes to find you, Knight Gundam. He takes you to
the king and the situation of the kidnapped princess is explained. You
promise to defeat the Zeon and bring back the princess. The king asks you to
bring along help, who introduce themselves as Guncannon (ガンキャノン) and
Guntank (ガンタンク).

You gain control of your party. You can get 500 Gold from a guy walking in
the area just below the king. If you talk to people, you'll learn that there
is a Lithograph with mysterious strength somewhere and three sacred Gundam
treasures. Someone also mentions that the dog on the 3rd floor is attracted
to objects that belonged to the princess since he misses her. You also hear
that Sento (セントー) village is to the North.

Exit the castle and head North to Sento.

---Sento---
In Sento, you can buy equipment for your party. You don't have much money, so
you might as well focus on getting equipment for Knight Gundam. With him in
front, he'll attract the majority of enemy attacks. There's a bargain store
here worth noting, at the top end of town in the center, that doesn't sell
anything yet, but if you sell or drop any rare weapons or items you come
across later, they will appear here for sale.

You will also notice the "Carddass" machines in the shops here, which
dispense playing cards for 20 Gold each that you can use to play Carddass
against people in towns. See the "Carddass" section of this guide for more
info.

There are numerous items to get in Sento by talking to people. You can get
the Princess' Pendant (ひめのペンダント) from a woman at the upper-right
corner of the inn (宿), which is a very important key item. Show it to the
dog in Lacroa and he'll start following you. It seems like nothing happens
after that, but later you will see it was important. In Sento, you also can
get a Spending Notebook (こずかいちょう) from a person on the right side of
town. Use this and you can set a goal for an amount of gold you'd like. When
you reach this goal, a message will let you know. This way you don't have to
keep checking your inventory when you're saving up money to see if you have
enough. Another person on the right side of town gives you a card carrying
album, which allows you to store Carddass cards. A new menu comand appears
(カードダス) that allows you to view your card inventory.

Before setting out from Sento, you should buy some insurance for 10 Gold from
the lady just to the right of the counter at the inn. This makes it so you
don't lose any Gold when you die. Every time your party is wiped out, you
should buy the insurance again.

---Travel West of Sento---
When you leave Sento, Guncannon is suddenly missing. Guntank goes to look for
him, so you're alone. Before traveling very far, make sure you level up one
or two times. A little West is a bridge. When you try to cross, Amuro
(アムロ) mistakes you for a Zeon knight. You can't convince him otherwise,
and he attacks.

Boss: Amuro (アムロ), 60 EXP/50 Gold
No strategy necessary. He does about 1 HP damage per turn and has 20-25 HP.

When you win, Amuro apologizes. He says he's a Union Knight and joins you to
help defeat Satan Gundam. Guntank returns, but says he can't find Guncannon.
Head North of the bridge to the village of Zan (ザーン).

---Zan---
In Zan, you learn that a knight named Sayla (セイラ) went to the cave in the
East and hasn't returned, and you hear a scary slime is in the cave. You
learn Augusta village (オーガスタ) is to the North, and that a wise man lives
in the house to the West. You also hear there is a Carddass Island somewhere
in the world.

There is a kid you can engage in a Carddass battle on the North end of town.
Beat him and he says, "There's somebody to my right." He disappears, so go
right from where he was and you find a knight in red. It's Guncannon. He
apologizes for disappearing, but there's no explanation of where he went. He
rejoins your party.

Now, head East to the cave.

---Cave East of Zan---                                             [sec4a]
Treasures: Wood Shield, Magic Rope, Magic Square Mat, Tactics Scroll, Copper
Sword, Lithograph Fragment.

After exploring the cave a bit, you find a slime. Talk to it and it starts
moving away. "Huh? It's trying to say something?". You chase it and it leads
you to a treasure. Open it to get a Lithograph Fragment, whose purpose is
unknown at this point. Exit the cave.

Go to the wise man in the house West of Zan. He's interested in the slime in
the cave, and gives you the Hero's Tears (ゆうしゃのなみだ), telling you to
take it back to the cave and that surely something will happen.

Return to the cave and talk to the slime. You will use the Hero's Tears on
it, and it turns into a person, Sayla (セイラ). She says she was on a journey
to find her older brother when the Zeon caught her. Now, she wants to join
you to fight them. You have too many characters to have in your party at
once, so to change between them, go back to Lacroa Castle and go down stairs
that were previously blocked, just to the left of the entrance. Talk to the
guy at the counter to remove a character, then go around to the big room in
the back and talk to whomever you want to have add to your party. You may
want to put Sayla in your party now.

Next, head North to the town of Augusta.

---Augusta---
If Sayla is in your party when you are in Augusta and you go to the center of
town a scene will commence in which you meet Sayla's long lost brother, Shaw
(シャア), but you don't realize he is her brother until it's too late and
he's walked away.

You hear some interesting rumors, such as about Pegasus whom only a hero with
a true heart can ride, and you hear about three thieves seen around town. You
are told Gallop Tower (ギャロップのとう) is North of town, that a legendary
shield is in the tower, and a fortune teller tells you you should bring Sayla
to Gallop Tower.

With Sayla in your party, head North to the tower.

---Gallop Tower---                                                 [sec4b]
Treasure: Tactics Scroll, Leather Hat, Ointment, Thief Knife

At the entrance, Ramba Ral (ランバ ラル) comes up to you and says, "Wait,
wait! You can't pass through here." Sayla tells him to move aside. Ramba Ral
says that he will never fight a woman, and allows you to enter.

While climbing to the top of the tower, you might want to run from the
enemies Dom (ドム) and Zeongu (ジイオング) because they have a spell that can
do hefty damage to your party. At the top of the tower, you'll find the Thief
Knife (とうぞくのナイフ), which is a nice weapon since you can attack
multiple times per turn. Drop down a hole, where a boss battle commeces.

Boss: Giant Zeongu (ジャイアントジオング) 324 EXP/87 Gold
This boss has a weak attack, so this fight will likely be really easy,
although can cast a spell that will damage all a lot (25-30 HP), so hopefully
you are lucky and he doesn't use that very much.

After the fight, you get the Strength Shield (ちからのたて). You
automatically leave the tower, and then some guys come up to you and take the
shield. GM Sniper says to leave it to him, he'll deal with those guys and to
meet him in the city to the East called Hatte (ハッテ). He says the people
there are in trouble and that you should help them. So go East to Hatte.

---Hatte---
The people of this village are plagued by thieves. You hear that the village
of Munzo is to the East, but the passage is blocked by a mysterious magic
power.

Go into the house in the upper-right corner of town and talk to the village
elder to learn that the boss of the thieves is in Odessa (オデッサ). His
daughter went there to persuade him to leave their village alone, and he asks
you to go to Odessa to check on his daughter. So head Northwest to Odessa.

---Odessa---
Odessa is occupied by thieves. One says Princess Fraw was probably taken
through the passage to the East.

You find the elder's daughter in the upper-left corner of town. Speak to her
and the three black clothed thieves that stole your shield come up to you and
start a fight.

Boss: Black Tri-Stars (くろい3れんせい) 400 EXP/482 Gold
Their attack is weak, but they get 3 per turn, so the chance of them landing
critical hits is a little more likely. Their defense is strong, so you may
find that attack spells are the best way to damage them effectively.

When defeated, the thieves say they'll stop doing bad things and please
forgive them and you can get the Strength Shield at their house. The elder's
daughter thanks you and says to come visit her back at her house in Hatte. In
the house at the center of town you find GM Sniper, who was captured. He says
the Strength Shield is in the right corner of the room. Search the
upper-right corner to find the Strength Shield.

Back at Hatte, talk to the elder and receive some Passed Down Salt
(かほうのしお) as gratitude for your help.

---Cave East of Odessa---                                          [sec4c]
Treasure: Tactics Scroll

Head East from Odessa to a cave that you previously couldn't pass through.
You sprinkle the salt you just received which removes an evil curse that
prevented you from passing.

In the cave, you meet Lalah (ララァ). 5 monsters appear and she says one of
them is the princess whose figure has been transformed. She says you have to
kill them one at a time and guess which one is her to free her. If you have
not shown the Princess' Pendant to the dog on the third floor of Lacroa
Castle, then when you kill the fourth monster, it will have been the princess
and you strike her dead. GM Sniper shows up and says he will bury her. You
can continue playing even though she's dead, but I have no idea what happens
if you do. An alternate ending perhaps? What you are supposed to do is show
the dog the Princess' Pendant and then after you kill three of the enemies,
he will appear and run up to the true princess. She will be freed and say
that she wants to return to the castle and she has something for you there.
Return to the castle and talk to her in the throne room to receive the Charm
(おまもり). She wishes you luck on defeating Satan Gundam.

Return to the cave from which you rescued the princess and a new path will be
available, so follow that outside. Enter the nearby village of Munzo
(ムンゾ).

---Munzo---
You are told that Satan Gundam's castle can be seen to the East, but there's
no bridge available to get there.

Talk to Sleggar (in blue) in the upper-left corner of town. He wants you to
challenge him to a fight. He says its 50 Gold to try to fight him, but he'll
give you 600 Gold if you win.

Boss: Sleggar (スレッガー) 800 EXP/500 Gold
It's an easy fight. If you defeat him three times, he joins you to help
defeat Satan Gundam.

When you are ready, you can reach Satan Gundam's castle by talking to the old
man in the house East of Munzo. He'll teleport you to the island with the
castle.

---Satan Gundam Castle---                                          [sec4d]
Treasure: Iron Sword, Wood Shield, Iron Shield, Ointment, Iron Helmet

Work your way through the castle. Eventually, you will come across Lalah and
a boss fight will commence.

Boss: Lalah (ララァ)
This fight is pretty tough because Lalah can cast a damage all spell that
does pretty high damage. You should cast healing spells with your magic
characters right away to anticipate this damage each turn. Luckily, Lalah has
low defense, so your stronger characters can deal good damage each turn. The
Thief Knife is great for this fight to do a lot of damage each turn.

Not long after the fight with Lalah, you will arrive at Satan Gundam and
another fight will commence.

Boss: Satan Gundam (サタンガンダム) 1040 EXP/0 Gold
He can cause you to lose consciousness (きぜつ), so that your characters have
to wait a few turns to attack. If you have Beat (ビット), you can cast this
to make him unconscious, which makes this fairly easy fight even easier.

After defeating Satan Gundam, he turns into his more powerful form: Black
Dragon.

Boss: Black Dragon (ブラックドラゴン) 2080 EXP/1004 Gold
This fight is really hard because his damage-all spell can do so much damage.
You basically have to get lucky and have him not cast that spell more than
once before you can defeat him. Have your magic users cast healing spells at
the beginning of each turn to try to stay ahead of the massive damage, so at
least one or two of your stronger fighters can live a little longer and try
to finish him off. My characters were around level 11-12 when I was able to
beat him.

---Interlude---
You see a scene of Satan Gundam falling and your party celebrates. GM Sniper
appears, excited, and says to return to Lacroa. You return to Lacroa to find
the castle in ruins. Nemo tells you that a giant appeared out of nowhere and
smashed it up. They suspect the Zeon are responsible. He says the king is
safe, but... He takes you to see him. The king is in shock, and is acting
confused. He says the princess is in Sento and luckily was there when the
disaster occured. You tell the king you defeated Satan Gundam, and that you
will go to Sento to tell the princess the news.

On the world map, you might notice that there is now an opening in the
mountain range to the South of Lacroa. Before going that way, let's go to
Sento, the town just North of Lacroa Castle. The princess is walking around
the Northern end of town. Talk to her and you tell her the castle was
attacked. She asks if the king is safe. Say yes, then she says that the giant
also came to this town, but luckily there was not much damage. However, GM
Henson's house was crushed (Southwest corner of town).

We need to find out about this giant. It seems like the path in the mountain
range is a clue that he went tramping that way, so let's go South. BTW, Nemo
(ネモ) is now a usable character for your party.

---South of Lacroa---
Go South, then West into the desert area to find a little house. You hear
Alexander (アレクサンダー) the sage's voice, but he won't see you cause he
says you're lying about being heroes of Lacroa, but if you bring Princess
Fraw, he'll believe you. If you return to Lacroa and talk to the princess,
she says she's worried about her dad and doesn't want to leave.

So for now, go further South in the desert to the town of Granada (グラナダ).

---Granada---                                                      [sec4e]
When you enter the town, a monster called Dragon Baby attacks you to get
revenge for you killing its father Black Dragon.

Boss: Dragon Baby (ドラゴンベビー) 1200 EXP/520 Gold
This is an easy fight requiring no explanation.

In Granada, you hear that the staff Black Dragon carried has fallen into a
cave somewhere. You also hear about a celebrity named Kara (キャラ), a dancer
here, but you need a ticket to get into the theater to see her. There's
nothing else to do here for now, so head East to Mua (ムーア) village.

---Mua---
When you enter, someone named Kacricon (カクリコン) comes up to you and says,
"You probably know about me." You say you don't and he walks away offended.

There is a beauty contest going on here in the upper-right section of town.
You can find a Voting Ballot (とうひょうけん) by searching the ground in the
upper-left area of the park looking area at the top end of town. Talk to the
spaceman looking guy at the beauty contest stage and he'll ask who you vote
for. Say "no" twice to vote for the lady on the right. She'll give you 5000
Gold as thanks (the other ladies would give you nothing).

In town, you hear that a strange current in sea is taking away ships. Also
you hear the giant passed through here.

Leave town and try to cross bridge East. GM Sniper appears and says the
king's condition has improved. Return to Lacroa and the princess will now
come with you to meet Alexander, the guy in the house at the North end of the
desert. Go to him and he allows you in, and the princess returns to the
castle. You ask him about the giant. He says he doesn't know, but you should
ask the sage Sarasa (サラサ) who is in the village of Loom (ルウム) to the
East. He mentions there something important in a box here for you. Search the
box on the right to find the Show Ticket (ショーのチケット), which will let
you get into the Granada theater, although there's no reason to go there just
yet. You need to go back to Lacroa to get a fourth party member now since the
princess took up room during your trip here.

---Loom---
Go East from Mua to the town of Loom.

In town, you hear rumors about a sword in Fire Mountain and that the three
sacred treasures are: Strength, Flame, and Mist. You also hear that Sarasa,
the person you've come to see, has been kidnapped.

Search the center tree in front of the inn and find a note that says, "in the
center, on top of the pond, search". Search the top-left tile of the pond at
the center of the town to get the message: "The oldest fortune-teller's bed."
Search the top bed in the house to the upper-left of the Item Shop to get
warped to the tower North of the village.

---Loom Tower---                                                   [sec4f]
Treasures: Leopard Belt, Mega Pack, Magic Tile Mat, Medecine Box, Special
Iron, Tactics Scroll

At the entrance, there is a 3-way fork that you face. Go left for a Tactics
Scroll, go right for some Special Iron (If you take this to the blacksmith in
Sento, he will turn it into a Short Sword, what a waste of time!), and if you
go straight, you will be making your way to the boss fight. When you find the
Leopard Belt (ひょうのベルト), equip it on someone by "using" it in the item
menu to equip it and double that character's speed.

Climb to the top of the tower to find Galbaldy (ガルバルディ), who is talking
to someone: "Hand over the Blue Crystal. I know you have it." Sarasa, "I'll
never hand it over to the likes of you!" You come up to them, and Galbaldy
gets angry at the intrusion, so a fight commences.

Boss: Galbaldy Beta (ガルバルディBeta) 1820 EXP/1068 Gold
This is a tough fight. He has the same high damaging attack-all spell as
Black Dragon, and has pretty strong physical attacks. Also he can seal the
spells of your characters. It is really helpful to successfully cast Minofus
(ミノフス) on him to prevent him from casting his spell, although it usually
wears off after the first turn, so you have to keep casting it and hoping it
works. To make sure your spell caster can cast it before Galbaldy gets his
turn, have him/her equipped with the Leopard Belt. You may also want to cast
Hover (ホバー) to increase all of your party's speed, which seems to also
make Galbaldy miss more often. Finally, you might try casting Fimul
(フィムル) to increase your party's magic resistance, or Hanikam (ハニカム)
to increase your defense, but both of these didn't seem to make much of a
difference for me. Ultimately, you have to get lucky to win this fight. My
characters were in the range of levels 15-17.

When you win, Sarasa says he's returning to the village, and you will learn
everything you need to know there. So go back to Loom.

Sarasa is in the top-left house in Loom. He tells you about the giant. It was
awakened in this country long ago during a great conflict between two
territories. But the giant destroyed both territories and went back to sleep.
To control the giant, one needs the red and blue crystals. The Zeon already
have the red crystal and have awakened the giant. If they get the blue one,
surely they'll use the giant to destroy all of Lacroa. He asks you to get the
Blue Crystal and bring it to him. It is in the Theater in Granada, in the
lower-right corner of the room.

Go to Granada and enter the theater since you have a ticket from Alexander.
Search the lower right corner of the room and you find a scrap of paper that
says, "Too bad. We're one step ahead of you, the Blue Crystal now belongs to
the Zeon." You suspect the Zeon were eavesdropping on your previous
conversation and suggest returning to Sarasa.

Back in Loom, talk to Sarasa and he says to please destroy the giant before
he can do any serious damage. He says he prepared a raft for you to take to
Lunatsu (ルナツー).

---Lunatsu---
On the world map, there's a raft next to Loom. Get on the raft, and a strong
current will suddenly sweep you away. You awake in some guys house who helped
you recover. He says he'd like to take a boat to Lunatsu, but there are too
many scary monsters outside and asks if he can go with you so you can deal
with them. Say yes and he says to thank you he'll tell you something good:
Behind Gallop Tower is a cave with the Dragon Staff inside.

You leave and get on the raft. On the raft, something seems wrong with
Guncannon. He says, "I'm not Guncannon, I'm the soul of the Black Dragon that
you destroyed. To be revived, I need the Dragon Staff. I knew if I traveled
with you I'd surely find the staff. Because of your previous conversation, I
now know the staff's location! I no longer have any need for you people.
Die!"

Boss: Cannon (キャノン) 1740/1000
This is a very easy fight.

After the fight, Guncannon comes back to his senses and you continue your
journey. When you arrive at Lunatsu, the guy you just escorted leaves you.

In Lunatsu, if you search the suspicious looking patch of grass just above
the inn, you will find a Wounded Hat (きずついたハト). Also, the house in the
top-left corner of town is a Carddass club. It costs 20 Gold to enter and you
can battle people. Talk to the guy on the right-side of the door to play a
survival mode, where you win 1000 Gold for defeating 6 opponents (it's not
really worth it).

---Ship Captain's House---
If you go North from Lunatsu, you will find the Ship Captain's House. Inside,
you learn that most of the people that live there left for the mountains
since they were unable to sail their ships due to the harsh conditions
lately.

Go East and you'll find some paths that go through the mountains. Within this
maze, you'll find the ship captain. He says his crew quit because of monster
attacks at sea. He says that we should all just give up. He encourages you to
give up as well. If you answer "no" several times, he'll eventually be
inspired by your bravery and offer the use of his ship. Return to Lunatsu to
board.

---Awaken the Strength Shield---
Sail West from Lunatsu to an island, South of the Granada desert, with a
house. Talk to the man in the house and he will awaken the Strength Shield,
making its defense go from 15 to 30.

---Fire Mountain---                                                [sec4g]
Treasure: Iron Axe, Defense Water, Strength Water, Speed Water,
Silver Powder, Magic Rope, Flame Sword, Certain Kill Sword

In the mountain ranges East of Lunatsu where you found the ship captain,
there is also a discolored section of mountain in the Southeast corner. Enter
this mountain. You'll see Dragon Babies here and there that tell you to turn
back because the Flame Sword is not here. You'll also come across damage
tiles that do 10 HP damage to each character. Far into the dungeon, you'll
find a townsperson who says that one of the Dragon Babies is a liar and has
the sword. The Dragon Baby that has the sword is up the stairs just South of
the stairs you took to find this townsperson. You go up to the Dragon Baby
and harass it, and a fight begins.

Boss: Dragon Baby (ドラゴンベビー) 1200/520
This battle is super easy, but you have to beat him 3 times. When defeated,
he disappears, and you can open the treasure chest to get the Flame Sword.

Now you have 2 of the 3 sacred treasures.

---Lia---
Walk East from Lunatsu to the village of Lia.

At the top-right corner of town, you find Layla (ライラ) who asks for your
help. Someone next to her, named Messalar (メッサーラ), recognizes you as
Knight Gundam and decides to retreat for now. Layla says she saw a giant in a
cave to the North, so head North to the cave.

---Cave North of Lia---                                            [sec4h]
Treasure: Silence Helmet, Mirror Shield, Ointment, Mist Armor
Deep into the cave, step onto a treasure chest and Mad Golem approaches:
"Idiots! The legendary giant isn't here!" Gundam: "Crap! It's a trap!"

Boss: Mad Golem (マッドゴーレム) 5959 EXP/102 Gold
This battle isn't too bad. If you have characters with the Net spell, you can
lower his defense. Physical attacks work well in this fight.

When you win, open the chest to get the Mist Armor, the last of the sacred
treasures.

When you return to Lia, two foes approach.

Boss: Layla (ライラ) and Messalar (メッサーラ) 3806 EXP/2750 Gold
Kill Messalar first since his defensive power and HP seem lower. If you're
lucky enough to land a critical hit, this fight could be over fairly quickly,
but if not it may take a few tries. You might try the "focus" ability as well
to try to quickly take Messalar out.

After the fight, go to the house in the upper-right corner of town and search
the box in the upper-right area to get the Precious Pot (きちょうなつぼ).

Here's an optional side event: You'll notice that an athletic event has
started in the upper-left portion of Lia. Someone here mentions that they
would like Kara's autograph. If you go to Granada, talk to Kara to get
Kyara's Autograph (キャラのサイン). Then return to Lia and talk to the guy at
the top-middle of the race track and he'll trade you for a full set of cards
1-83 of the Carddass game.

---Akshiz---
Walk West of Lia to the town of Akshiz. When you enter town, Kacricon, a guy
you insulted earlier by saying you've never heard of him, comes up to you. He
asks if you know who he is now, and you answer "no", so he attacks.

Boss: Kacricon (カクリコン) 1200 EXP/682 Gold
This fight is annoying because he can fully heal himself over and over again.
If you levels aren't very high, this may take a lot of patience to finish,
although he's not very strong so it's an otherwise easy fight. You might be
able to prevent him from healing himself by casting Minofus, but you may have
to buy some better equipment and level up if you find it impossible to kill
him before he heals himself.

In this town, you learn that the sea god lives on the little island South of
this city. Also, there's a small village called Noa in the forest to the
North, but it is easy to get lost in the forest. The kids on the left side of
town want to play hide and seek, and if you say "yes", the whole town
disappears. I don't know if you can find them somewhere or if it's just a
joke, but if you exit town and re-enter, everybody re-appears.

If have the Precious Pot, the man in a house in the lower-left portion of
town will ask you for it. Say yes, and he'll give you a Compass (コンパス) in
exchange, so now you can enter the forest to the North without getting lost.

---North Forest---
If you try to enter the forest to the North of Akshiz, the Gold Knight
prevents you from entering. But if you have the Compass, he will allow you to
enter, but only if you defeat him in battle first.

Boss: Gold Knight (おうごんのナイト) 2962 EXP/1300 Gold
This guy also likes to completely heal his HP, so you will want to cast
Minofus to seal his magic to stop this. Otherwise, it's not a difficult
fight.

When you win, the Gold Knight allows you to enter the forest and urges you to
defeat the giant.

---Noa---
When you enter the village in the forest, Noa, GM Sniper says that GM
Henson's kid is lost in the forest.

Talking around town, you learn that someone named マクベ is controlling the
giant, and that the gian lives in a Stone Castle to the North. You also hear
about the existence of the legendary Pegasus. You are told that the Forest of
Bewilderment is East of here, and you hear that the Bow of Light is in the
forest.

A woman on the small island in the middle of town is waiting for someone to
send the Wounded Hat (きずついたハト), which you might have found in Lunatsu.
She gives you Card #43 in exchange for it.

Head East to the Forest of Bewilderment to try to help Henson's missing kid.
The forest is through an opening in the mountain range to the East.

---Forest of Bewilderment---                                       [sec4i]
This place is on of those infinitely looping dungeons that is confusing to
figure out how to get through. To get through the forest, take the following
directions at the first three forks in the road:

Up, Left, Up

You will find a fairy, Kikka, who says some kid has been wandering around the
forest. From here, go up, then go left at each of the next three forks in the
road to find the fairy again.  She says the same thing as before. From here,
go down, down, then right to find Henson's kid. You take him back to village
of Noa.

At the village, GM Henson thanks you. He says they're returning to Sento
since Lacroa castle is being rebuilt. He also says his son found a bow in the
forest, and they're giving it to you as thanks. It's in the bed in the inn.
He also asks if you're going to Grips (グリプス), and if you are to take a
letter there for him, which he left with the bow. Go in the inn and search
the upper-right most bed to find the Bow of Light (ひかりのゆみ) and Henson's
Letter (ヘンソンのてがみ).

---Becoming the Complete Hero---
Just like how you "awakened" the Strength Shield, you can awaken the other
sacred treasures. To awaken the Mist Armor, sail West of Augusta and visit
the house there. To awaken the Flame Sword, sail South from Lunatsu to a
small house (the 2nd house you see) on an island shaped like a sword. Talk to
the old man there to awaken the Flame Sword, then a cutscene will show you
getting super powerful since you have the 3 sacred treasures awakened. Talk
to the kid in the same house to get the Guidance Flute (みちびきのふえ),
which he says will allow you to traverse the outside cave easily. Go a little
West to the cave on the same island.

When you enter the cave, the Guidance Flute will automatically play. A path
will be visible through the flashing panels, so follow it. Hopefully you
don't have a seizure from looking at the screen (seriously, this seems
dangerous for some people). At the end of the path, open the treasure chest
to get the Hero's Proof (ゆうしゃのあかし).

---Sea God---
The Sea God's house is South of Akshiz. It's hard to get there because the
strong ocean current will sweep your boat away, unless you stay along the
coast the whole time. So, teleport to Akshiz, get in your boat, and go along
the coast carefully until you make it to the house. In the house, the old man
will see the Hero's Proof you now have, and stop the ocean current so you can
now sail freely.

Go Northwest to get back to the open sea, then head North to find an island
with a house in the center, where the old man will award you the Pegasus Wing
(ペガサスのはね). You can use this item to call Pegasus and fly around the
world map.

You can access the town of Grips now, located Northwest from Augusta.

---Grips---
In the house by the entrance, deliver Henson's Letter to the old man and
he'll give you the Mirror of Truth (しんじつのかがみ). When you take it,
words appear that say, "When light intersects with light, the giant's
strength will be cut in half." GM Sniper appears and says, "I heard what was
just said. That probably refers to the Arrow of Light. I will go search for
it right away. Then, meet me at the Stone Castle."

A lady at the inn says that she'll tell you about the dream village Moonmoon
(ムーンムーン) after you defeat the giant. You are also told that you cannot
make it through the cave to the West and that the Lithograph will make you
super strong.

Go South from Grips to enter the Stone Castle, the dwelling of the giant.

---Stone Castle---                                                 [sec4j]
Treasure: Almighty Staff, Spirit Sword
The enemies here are pretty tough. I had to level up a little bit, but it
didn't take long since they give so much experience. The boss fights aren't
too tough, so pough through, perhaps running a lot, to Makube (マクベ). He
runs away, so chase him and you fall into a pit containing the giant. GM
Sniper appears and gives you the Arrow of Light (ひかりのや). You use it and
the giant's body shrinks to half size. Then it's finally time to fight the
giant.

Boss: Great Golem (サイコゴーレム) 11362 EXP/2010 Gold
It's a pretty easy fight. Just attack and heal. I had only two characters
alive when I arrived and I still beat him rather easily.

Makube says he'll have to deal with you himself.

Boss: Makube Kattse (マクベ カッツェ) 10000 EXP/1000 Gold
This fight isn't all that hard. My levels were between 24 and 27 when I beat
him, and I primarily used the "focus" ability.

When you defeat Makube, he says the Zeon are net yet finished. There's still
Zeek Zeon (ジーク ジオン)

---Moonmoon---
Return to Grips and talk to the lady who promised info about Moonmoon and she
says to go to a small island to the South and search the lake there.

The island and lake alluded to above are pretty obvious. Search the lake and
you warp to a house. Exit and walk a little Southeast to Moonmoon. It's not
really a town, just a house, but you get the 2nd lithograph shard piece,
which combines with the one you already have to become the Lithograph
(せきばん). Gundam can equip it by using it in the items menu, and his
strength and defense get a major boost.

---Grips Cave---
Talk to the guy in front of the upper-left house in Grips and he lets you
inside the house now. An old man there will open a secret underground tunnel
for you. In the tunnel, Kacricon comes up to you and asks if you know who he
is yet. Say yes, and he walks away, but say no for easy boss fight and some
good experience.

Boss: Kacricon (カクリコン) 3600 EXP/1966 Gold
He's really easy.

Continuing into the cave, you'll be at a crossroads with seemingly deadends,
but take the path going downward and you'll emerge outside next to a castle.
Enter the castle, of course.

---Final Castle---                                                 [sec4k]
Treasure: Monster Killer, Spirit Ball
There are no random battles in this castle, so wade through it leisurely and
eventually you will be approached by some of the boss characters you defeated
earlier. The members of your party that were left behind in the castle appear
and hold them off so you can approach Zeek Zeon. However, the Black Dragon
intercepts you, and you fight him instead.

Boss: Black Dragon (ブラックドラゴン) 0 EXP/0 Gold
The Black Dragon has strong magic, but you'll be ok if he doesn't use it too
often. Feel free to unload your magic and items when needed, because this is
actually the last boss. Gundam is so stron at this point that you just need
to attack each turn, and heal with your magicians when needed, and eventually
he will fall.

---Ending---
Zeek Zeon runs away and peace is restored to Lacroa. You return to the
castle, where people cheer for you. However, you say that your journey is not
over until Zeek Zeon is dead, so you exit the castle and begin your next
adventure. I suppose this keeps the story rolling for the next game in the
series.

                         ===================
                      ---= Optional Quests =---
                         ===================                      [sec4l]

There are a couple things you can do that are not mentioned above in the main
walkthrough because they seem to have no effect on the game. But if you know
more about why the below side quests exist, please let me know.

---Cave North of Gallop Tower---
Treasure: Ointment, Barrier, Dragon Staff

During your trip to Lunatsu, you were told that the Dragon Staff is in the
cave North of Gallop, and that the Black Dragon could use it to be revived.
If you go to that cave, there is a house near the entrance. An old man in the
house warns you that calamity will befall if you remove the staff. If you go
into the cave, you will eventually come across another old man who repeats
the same warning.

However, if you actually take the Dragon Staff (ドラゴンのつえ), it seems
like nothing happens. You can't use it in battle, and you can finish the game
like normal.

---Cardass Island---
You hear rumors about a Carddass Island every once in awhile in the game. A
man in a house on a small island found by following the house North of Sento
tells you that the secret to finding the island is in the characters written
on the lower-right section of each card. If you look at all 83 cards, you see
the following characters:

かあどだすとうへいくためにはぺがさすをてにいれらくろあじようのなんとうにある
やまにかこまれたどうくつにはいりせれくととつうこんのびいぼたんをどうじにおせ
ばいけるだすよ

It translates to:
"To get to Carddass Island, use Pegasus and enter the cave surrounded by
mountains Southeast from Lacroa. Simultaneously push 'Select' and the 'B'
button and exit."

Despite this pretty clear explanation for how to reach the Carddass island,
if you go to the cave indicated, it seems like pushing Select and B doesn't
do anything. I tried pushing them, holding them, entering the cave, exiting
the cave, walking around the cave. Perhaps I am misunderstanding something in
the instructions, or perhaps the island was never added to the game?
