INTRODUCTION
******************************
Very few people have heard of the Nintendo 64 import Wonder Project J2
and even fewer have played it. Part of the reason for that is that it
seems like such a difficult game for someone without extensive
knowledge of Japanese. True, the game is filled with Hiragana and
Kanji, but even though it may be frustrating to try to play sometimes,
it’s worth it for such a wonderful game filled with beautiful 2D anime
graphics, charming characters, and innovative point-and-click gameplay.
I loved raising the robot girl Josette, so I want to help share that
experience with others. It should be noted that this FAQ doesn’t cover
everything in the game. While there is help for several of the games 25
achievements, this isn’t a walkthrough. There is already a great one
written by Eve Chauviré, which can be found at www.gamefaqs.com. This
FAQ is kind of like a supplementary to it. While Eve Chauviré’s
walkthrough helped me very much (without it I wouldn’t have been able
to beat the game), I found myself stuck on a few things. I felt that
there should be some coverage on the controls of the game, an item list
that matches the Computer Shop in the game rather than the game’s
manual (because some people might buy this game used without a manual),
and some additional information on the most difficult achievements.
So... if you use Eve Chauviré’s walkthrough and my FAQ, you should get
through the game easily! Finally, I’d just like to note that I won’t
give out any story or character information. See Eve Chauviré’s
walkthrough for a character list and all that good stuff. This FAQ may
contain some spoilers, though.

HOW TO GET STARTED
******************************
First of all, you’re going to need a Nintendo 64 Controller Pak to save
your game data. Wonder Project J2 was sold with one included, but if
your copy didn’t come with one, you better find one.
Once you turn on Wonder Project J2, a very long intro will begin after
seeing the Enix and Givro logos. Press start at any time to enter the
menu.
The menu has four options, which I’ll translate as:
Load or select a new file
Delete a file
Copy a file
Start game without saving (you can save later on in the game, though)
Most of the menu screens have the options (in this layout) – Yes No
Back
For copying, it’ll appear as # >> #. Make sure you chose the file
number you wanted and that it’s being moved to the proper slot.
Now since we’re “getting started”, choose the first option in the menu.
Choose an empty file. Put in your name with the A button. Throughout
the game, Josette will refer to you as “Player-san”. “Player” is the
name you chose.
You can use the default Hiragana character set (and do the infamous
“aaaaa” name that us Hiragana-challenged people do :P ) or switch to
Kana (below the “no” option). Click the “finish” button when you’re
done or hai (yes) if you used up all 5 spaces.
Put in the robot girl’s name the same way or hit finish for her default
name, Josette.
Select the message speed and the bird speed (order goes from fast –
normal – slow).
Now just sit back and watch the cinematic sequence, talk to Doro and
Bo, and view Josette’s letter to Pr. Gepetto.
Once you’re in the Dolphin submarine ship, Josette will teach you the
basics of the controls. Approve her first six questions. Then on the
seventh question, when she says something about “Bird message” in
Katakana, disapprove.
Congratulations! You can now begin playing one of the best Nintendo 64
games!

ITEM LIST WITH COSTS AND USES
******************************
Items are listed in the order in which they appear in the Computer
Shop. Direct Josette to the blue screen near the cockpit and engine of
the Dolphin submarine to enter the shop. The first option on the left
is buy, next to it sell, then finally exit. The Z Trigger and A button
are used to confirm, while the B button is used to cancel.

Takara No Chizu (Treasure Map) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3000 Corlo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: The map gives you clues on where the Magiteka treasures are
located on the bottom of the sea. Not too useful since they’re easy to
find if you just wander around. Eve Chauviré’s walkthrough also gives
their locations.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Magiteka Densetsu (Magiteka Legend) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1000 Corlo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Have Josette read this book on the legends of Magiteka to learn

fills in the story a little.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corlo Densetsu (Corlo Legend) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1000 Corlo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Have Josette read this book to learn of the legends and history of
Corlo Island. Yet again it only teaches you, the player, a little more
about the story and world of Wonder Project J2. Perhaps it helps
Josette become friends with Pokko? Doesn’t seem to from my experience,
though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Proton Kouseki (Proton Mineral) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 500 Corlo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Have Josette eat the Proton stone to discover the cause of Clara’s
illness. If you eat Proton stones you find in the mine, you’ll get some
HP back.
OTHER ITEMS:
These items are not found in the shop. You either start the game with
them or characters give them to you. Though you can’t buy any of these
items, you can sell off some of them in the shop.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Akibin (Empty Bottle) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: After you use oil to recover HP or MP, you’ll be left with an

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Gohoubino Fuku (Pink Dress) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: You get this dress once you reach 100%. It literally falls from
the sky out of nowhere. O_o This is the dress from the cover of the
game, and it makes Josette very happy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hakase No Tegami (Doctor’s Letter) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: It’s the letter Josette wrote to Professor Gepetto. It can make
her really happy or really sad depending on what point in the game you
have Josette look at it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Corlo No Kinomi (Corlo Nut) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: It’s a nut from the island of Corlo. Yet again, it can make
Josette happy or sad.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaiinshou (License) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Needed for Achievements 9 and 14. Find the tiny shell under the
sea with the Dolphin submarine and catch it with the net. Then Fisher
will give you the license to fish. It also gives you a clue on how to
enter the submarine race if you have Josette read it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss Con Hai ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Needed for Achievements 12 and 24. This is the trophy Josette gets
for winning second place in the Miss Goddess contest. If you have
Josette use it, she’ll hug it and be happy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Menkyokaiden (Initiation into the Arts [of fighting]) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: Needed for Achievement 10. If you train A LOT with the dumbbell
and Josette protects herself when she’s attacked on the spooky street,
Fater Harben will give her the Initiation to recognize Josette as a
talented fighter. Then she can go beat the poop out of his son. O_o
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Race Hai ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USE: This is the trophy Josette gets for winning the submarine race. If
she picks it up, she’ll be happy and hug it.
******************************
THE TOUGHEST ACHIEVEMENTS
******************************
ACHIEVEMENT 2 – LEARNING HOW TO COOK
Learning how to use a tray and becoming a waitress is easy enough, but
getting Josette to actually cook is another story. What’s so confusing
is that it takes SO many uses of the seasoning for Josette to
understand taste, and often times, something should work, but it ends
up taking several tries before the event occurs. First just have
Josette try to read the cookbook. She won’t understand it. Then feed
her tons of seasoning. Each time she should say something different.
Keep doing that, and maybe have her look at the cookbook now and then.
Eventually everything should fall into place, and after you answer yes
to a few of her questions, she should be able to input the book. Then
teach her how to use the fry pan and make her use the stove. She should
be able to cook well now.
ACHIEVEMENT 3 - LEARNING HOW TO CLEAN
After you have Josette watch some movies and have an audition at the
studio, you’ll have to teach Josette to use the mop. Regardless of how
many times you try, she won’t understand, so you won’t get the
percentage. Instead, you got to start working on Achievement 4. Have
Josette take a shower. She’ll really hate it, so show her the washing
machine. After answering no to Josette’s silly question about if
twirling makes things clean, direct her to the sink. Chances are she
won’t understand. Keep messing with the shower and washing machine
until she asks if water makes things clean; answer yes so she’ll wash
her face. She’ll then shout “Mop! Mop!” Have her use the mop and she
should now understand that the mop cleans.
ACHIEVEMENT 4 – LEARNING HOW TO WASH ONESELF
See Achievement 3. After Josette washes her face in the sink, she
should finally accept taking a shower, and you’ll get the 4 percent.
ACHIEVEMENT 6 – PILOTING THE SEABA
The only confusing thing about Achievement 6 is FINDING the Seaba.
After you see all the sequences with Gante, go to the spot on the
Blueland map labeled with “????”. That’s where Gante is hiding the
Seaba from the Siliconian soldiers.
ACHIEVEMENT 8 – GETTING “INITITATION”
This one is by far the most difficult, confusing Achievement in the
entire game. After meeting Katze the Cat and Sapphire, teach Josette to
kick the stuffed cat doll. That triggers Fisher to show up at the dock,
and you’ll see Katze stealing his fish. Go to the garbage dump, and
Josette will kick Katze! Poor kitty. :( Fisher will be happy that
Josette stopped the cat from stealing his fish, though, and he’ll give
Josette some money. Sapphire will run up the dock, and she’ll be very
disappointed in Josette. See Sapphire at the plaza, and Josette will
ask if she did something wrong. Answer yes, and teach her to hug the
cat. Go see Katze again, and you’ll learn that it’s actually a female
cat... with kittens! She’s stealing fish to feed her babies. Sapphire
will become Josette’s friend now. Visit Sapphire again to learn of her
wish to be free, and then the next time you see her, Josette will take
her for a ride in the Seaba.
Now comes the second tricky part of this Achievement. Go to the spooky
street, and Josette will be attacked by the Gedo men. Sapphire will
come to her rescue. The next time Josette goes to the street, she’ll
find an old man passed out on the ground. Turns out he’s just being
weird, and he’s actually perfectly fine. That’s all you can do for now.
You have to start working on Achievement 10 to trigger the final event.
Okay, for Achievement 10 go to the Siliconian army’s training grounds
and headquarters. Eventually Josette will fight a soldier at the
training grounds. Chances are she’ll lose. Build up her strength A LOT
with the dumbell and have her see the movie Battle of Siliconian. Then
challenge him once more. If she successfully defeats him, she’ll run
into Harben. Train more with the dumbbell. When her strength is great
enough, she’ll challenge Harben to a duel. No matter what you do,
Josette can’t beat him just yet. You need the Initiation item. Go to
the spooky street, and you’ll see the old man again. Josette learns
that he’s the ghost of Harben’s father! O_O Fater Harben will test
Josette, and well... she’ll likely lose. Time to whoop out the dumbbell
yet again. Have Josette train a lot more until Josette can defend
herself from Fater Harben’s attack. Then he’ll give her the Initiation
item and disappear... Congratulations, you completed the longest,
hardest Achievement in the game!
ACHIEVEMENT 10 – GETTING RECOGNIZED AS AN ACCOMPLISHED BAREHAND FIGHTER
See Achievement 8. All you really need to do for this Achievement is
have Josette use the dumbbell a ton of times and get the Initiation
item. After that it’s a walk through the park... not literally. :P
ACHIEVEMENT 11 – GETTING SECOND PRIZE IN THE MISS GODDESS CONTEST
The hardest part of Achievement 11 is simply finding Arnold. What’s
really bizarre is that the first place I run into Arnold isn’t always
the same. Once it was the ship, another time it was the plaza... From
my experience, though, the way to trigger Arnold showing up at any
place is to just meet everybody else. Visit all the places in the game,
complete a few events and Achievements, and Josette will run into
Arnold somewhere. After that, just go all over, and Josette will find
him at many different locations. Eventually he’ll ask Josette to enter
the contest.
ACHIEVEMENT 14 – WON THE SUBMARINE RACE
Generally this one isn’t too difficult, but if you’re losing, it can be
hard to figure out what you need to do to win. Well, it seems to be
based on how long you've previously spent underwater OR how many
separate times you’ve dived under water with the Dolphin submarine.
Whichever the case may be, spend some time catching fish and searching
for treasures before you try to win the race.
ACHIEVEMENT 17 – A ROLE-PLAYING ADVENTURE
This Achievement is pretty simple as long as you have the right answers
to the questions (see Eve Chauviré’s walkthrough), but one part stumped
me... When Josette fights the monsters in the story, it’s as if she’s
REALLY fighting. If you haven’t trained her enough with the dumbbell,
she’ll be too weak to defeat them, and then it’s “Game Over” in the
role-playing game. Build up her strength a bit before attempting this
Achievement.
ACHIEVEMENT 24 – UNDERSTANDING LOVE
Another Achievement where sometimes things don’t happen right away even
though they should. After Josette wins second place in the Miss Goddess
contest, go to the studio for your audition. Keep having Josette try to
perform the love scene and have her see the movie Meoro and Lijuet.
Eventually, after the audition, she’ll ask you if her feelings for
Arnold is love. Answer yes, and you got this Achievement! In turn,
Josette can also go and become actress.
Any other Achievements you need help with that aren’t covered here?
Email me for requests.
******************************
POKKO AND CHAPTER 2
******************************
To set into action the events of Chapter 2, Josette will first have to
eat the Proton Stone and figure out what is causing Clara’s illness. To
first learn of Clara’s illness, though, Josette will have to complete
several required achievements such as understanding love, learning how
to cook, winning 2nd place in the Miss Goddess contest, etc. You’ll
know when you’ve completed all the required ones when you find Arnold
in Blueland’s forest, and he’ll tell Josette that Clara is sick.
Now, all that is easy enough. Just consult Eve Chauviré’s walkthrough,
but after that, there’s a much harder task to complete. Josette has to
become friends with Pokko. Remember the little guy who’s always at
Josette’s ship when you return to it but runs off? Well, he likes to
hang out at the Pipeway. The problem is, when Josette goes there, she
always gets mad at him and storms off.
First, go see Pokko at the Pipeway. After Josette gets angry and
leaves, return to the ship and disapprove her for getting mad. Return
to the Pipeway, and they should get along now. Go to the Pipeway again,
and they’ll have a little race.
At Karen’s restaurant, you’ll run into Pokko and Karen having a
discussion. Pokko will notice Josette’s ocarina necklace and reach for
it. Josette thinks he’s trying to do something perverted. O_o She gets
REALLY angry and leaves.
Back at the ship, Josette will run into Pokko again, but she’s still
very mad. Even though he tries to explain about the ocarina situation,
she’ll storm off, and Pokko starts crying. Now go to the park to see
Pearl.
Return to the ship, and you should see the same sequence from before.
Disapprove her anger at Pokko. Josette should run up close to you and
ask a question. Disapprove. It may not work the first time, but when
Josette appears sad, it did. Do the sequence yet again, and Josette
should forgive Pokko.
Leave the ship, and go back. Josette should show Pokko the inside of
the Dolphin. After he leaves, approve Josette’s question. Go see Pokko
at the Pipeway, and approve Josette when she returns to the ship and
asks a question.
Go to a bunch of other places, and keep going to see Pokko. It usually
takes several tries, but after you approve Josette’s question, she’ll
ask a couple more questions. Approve them, and Josette should do the “I
got it!” pose (one arm stretched out high and really happy that she
finally understands).
Go to the Pipeway once more. Now go to the entrance of the goddess
statue. The guard is gone! Complete the maze inside the statue
according to Eve Chauviré’s walkthrough.
Reaching Chapter 2 should be easy now, and the chapter itself is little
more than an extended ending. It’s mostly just dialogue sequences.
There are two key parts that can be very tricky, frustrating, and kind
of tedious – the two 3D sequences.
In the first, you have to navigate a maze consisting of two floors. You
must find 10 images of Josette on each. While Eve Chauviré’s
walkthrough helps with the questions (if you mess up you have to start
ALL OVER, so make sure you’re prepared with the answers), the locations
of the Josette images is another story. From my experience, they’re
random, and only one (or a limited set number) appears at a time.
Therefore, once you find a Josette image, another one might appear
right behind you where you were before. The trick to finding the
Josette images is to listen to the game closely. If you hear Josette’s
giggle, you’re close to one. Search that immediate area, and you should
find it.
The second 3D area is a real pain in the butt. Understandable since
it’s the last gameplay portion of the game. Kind of a “final boss”, if
you wish. Unfortunately, it’s not very fun at all. You got eight floors
to travel up, and on each Siliconian guards with rifles are chasing
you. Each floor gets more challenging than the last, and if a guard
shoots you, you have to start from the very beginning! Nothing’s worse
than making it up to the last floor and then losing. To make matters
worse, this sequence is in the first-person perspective, so the
controls are even worse than in the other 3D mazes like the mine.
To reach the top of the building, you need to find the elevator going
up on each floor. The most important thing to do, other than run the
hell away from the guards, is to find the little directional things up
above in the corridors. The green arrow always points towards the path
you need to follow in order to find the elevator. The red arrows point
to area that usually loop around and get you nowhere. You’re going to
have to take those red arrow paths a lot, though. Often times, you have
to lead the guards away from the elevators. The guards usually appear
along the hallway the green arrow points to. Go down them, but when you
see a guard, do an about-face, loop around through a red arrow path,
and while the guard is behind you, head down the hallway the green
arrow points. Things get much harder in the later floors when you have
multiple guards, huge mazes, and doors to dart through to reach other
areas while the guards are trapped behind you. Once you successfully
complete this 3D sequence, you really deserve the 45-minute epic ending
that follows.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
******************************
Q: What’s this game like? How does it play? Should I buy it?
A: Check out my review of the game at www.gamefaqs.com. It’s a long
review that goes in-depth on Wonder Project J2’s gameplay, story,
graphics, and music. *end of self-plug* :P
Q: Where can I get this game?
A: Considering that it was among the very first batch of Nintendo 64
games, it’s getting quite old. It’s very hard to find on most online
import sites, and stores that carry imports probably won’t have it
either. Your best bet it www.ebay.com or check www.wolfgames.com. I got
my copy from Wolfgames, so you never know, he might get in another
copy. When you manage to find a copy, it should be quite cheap.
Q: What’s the benefit of getting 100%?
A: None, really. You get a new pink dress that makes Josette very happy
(it’s the dress she’s wearing on the cover of the game), and she
smothers you with kisses. Getting 100% doesn’t change the ending or
anything like that. It’s just something to do for fun and to say that
you did everything in the game.
Q: What’s the lowest percentage you can beat the game with?
A: Well, I’ve beaten it with 60%, but I’m almost positive that you can
do it with even less. Yet again, it doesn’t make a difference whether
you beat the game with 100% or a low percentage. A “low percentage
game” is just a little challenge I made up.
Q: What are the achievements you’re required to complete?
A: I’m not positive on what ones you must get the actual percentage
for, but I do know that to beat the game there are many achievements
you’ll have to complete at least “half-way”. For example, you’ll need
to meet most of the characters in the game, but you don’t necessarily
have to get the percentage associated with them. These are the
achievements I believe you MUST get:
1. Learn how to greet
2. Learn how to cook
3. Learn how to clean
11. Win second place in Miss Goddess Contest
12. Become an actress
15. Learn how to sing well
22. Understand life and death
24. Understand love
There are probably a few more. Let me know if you absolutely cannot
beat the game without doing a certain achievement not on this list.

CONTACTING ME

Since I don't know Japanese, some of my translations could possibly be
incorrect, but with the aid of Katakana and Hiragana charts, lots of
experience with import games, Eve Chauviré’s site and walkthrough, and
other resources, I think I got almost everything right. If you feel
that a translation is incorrect or any other information for that
matter, let me know. Some translations come down to a matter of
opinion, though, so I won’t necessarily change something just because
you don’t like my translation. Note that I relied on Eve Chauviré’s
walkthrough for a lot of the names of places, people, and such, so if
Eve Chauviré made a mistake, then it’s likely in my FAQ too. While I’d
like to avoid confusion between the two, I have opted to change some
names because the translation didn’t appear to be correct (like “Flan”,
the Katakana actually spells “Purin” which means “pudding” in
Japanese.)
When and if there is ever a fan translation of Wonder Project J2, I
will NOT change my FAQ to match it. If you email me about doing such a
thing, I will delete your email, and if I’m not in a particularly good
mood, you may get a not-so-pleasant reply. ;) I will also not answer
emails regarding if there is, when there will be, or where you could
find a translation patch.
If you need help with Wonder Project J2, or have any questions about it, feel
free to email me. Please don’t ask questions answered already in the FAQ,
though. If you have requests or submissions for this FAQ, I’d be happy to
hear them. Don’t ask for the ROM, help with emulator problems, or request
that I add ROM-related info to this FAQ, as I cannot provide it and don’t
support them. I encourage all Wonder Project J2 players to go out and buy the
game. It may be hard to find, but once you do, it should be affordable, and
Nintendo 64 modification is relatively easy. If you just want to chat about
Wonder Project J2, feel free to send me mail. I love talking about my
favorite games. :)

THANKS TO...

Enix, Givro, and Mint for the creation and publication of this
fantastic game.
Matt of www.wolfgames.com for selling me a used copy in beautiful
condition that contained EVERYTHING for an unbelievably low 20 bucks.
Eve Chauviré for having a fantastic Wonder Project J2 site and
walkthrough loaded with lots of great pictures and information. I would
have never beaten the game, or even been able to enjoy it, without Eve
Chauviré’s work. Not to mention this FAQ wouldn’t even exist.
Nintendo for licensing this game and for making N64 modification not
too hard (not as easy as SNES modification unfortunately, though).
Nintendo Power for first introducing this game to me. I wouldn’t have
any interest in Wonder Project J2 if not for the short article about
the game in the Epic Center section.
GameFAQs for hosting this FAQ and all my other FAQs and reviews.
Andreas for putting up with the fruity sound that Josette makes when
she walks. And ‘cause I love him. :)
tri-Ace because... maybe, just maybe, if I suck up enough to them I can
accomplish my dream of being the president of tri-Ace. O_o I will tell
them to create a Star Ocean game with 12 characters like The Second
Story and Blue Sphere, except the only difference will be that every
character will be Bowman...
Myself because... uh... I forget... *daydreams of Poison Pills*
