INTRODUCTION
*******************************************

Getter Love is a bizarre, BIZARRE game. Well, unless you’re a tiny
perverted sake-drinking middle-aged Japanese man; then it’s perfectly
normal. Everywhere you look you see demented looking pandas with
sinister grins doing pelvic thrusts. If you can get past the intro
without developing epilepsy, you’re ready to play and enjoy a game that
can only be described by:

BOARD GAME??
LOVE SIMULATION?
NO!!
GETTER LOVE!!

Yes, Getter Love. I have spent hours attempting to discover its meaning
not unlike how one ponders the meaning of life or the universe. It’s
not “Get ‘er love!” as in “Get her love!” nor as in “Get ‘er, Love!” It
wouldn’t work any better as “Love Getter” considering “getter” isn’t an
actual word in the English language. So what is a “getter”? Is it a
verb? A noun? Will we ever know? Probably not, but the drunk horny
Japanese men who made this game and represent their company with a
stoned honeybee know perfectly well what it means.

But I digress, let’s put aside the insanity, and enjoy Getter Love like
we would any game. It’s part board game; it’s part dating simulation.
It’s got 2D graphics; it’s got 3D graphics. The music sounds great, and
the gameplay gets quite complex. It’s a complete package and quite
enjoyable if you get past the language barrier (assuming you don’t know
much Japanese like myself). That’s where this guide comes in. This is
the first article of text in ANY form to provide comprehensive
information and insight in English on the game Getter Love. Chances are
it’ll remain the only. If you’re brave enough... fruity enough... join
me and play Getter Love.

Like most dating simulation games, each play through of Getter Love
will be different, so a true “walkthrough” is not possible.
Nevertheless, this guide should provide all the information you’ll need
to get your money’s worth out of the game. Of course, a bit of
knowledge of katakana and hiragana always helps. I recommend you use a
chart at least if you’re not familiar with the characters. Whenever
possible, I took information straight out of the manual or the game. In
particular, the character bios are completely taken from the manual,
with the exception of the character descriptions. If you happen to like
a girl that I don’t give a very praising description to, don’t bother
to flame me because it’s just my opinion. :P By the way, names are
listed the English way with first names first, rather than the Japanese
way of putting the surname first.

Enough rambling, onto the guide:

THE GIRLS
*******************************************

====================================
AYUMI SHIRAI
====================================

Age: 15 Years Old
Sign: Virgo
Blood Type: A
Height: 158 cm
Measurements: B83 W58 H84
Hobby: Karaoke
Sukina Type: Normal
Frequently Visited Places: Ground, Panda Burger, Café Liquid, Karaoke
Corner of Panda Amuse
Happy Presents: Disposable Camera, Pops CD, Sandal
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Makoto Minagawa 2. Kiiro Amami 3. Natsuki
Itoh

My Description: The skank of the group, AKA the popular girl. Sort of
the unofficial main girl character of the game. She’s covered in make-
up, always has a tan, wears a skimpy little tank top and mini-skirt,
and has wannabe “I’m so innocent and naïve” pigtails. Just about every
guy wants her in normal mode due to the fact that she’s so easy. Meet
her once, and she’ll be all over you. Calling you every night, asking
you out on dates, etc. She’s into your typical popular girl stuff.
Hanging out with all her girl friends, singing karaoke, participating
in school sports, eating at the local fast food restaurant, and
partying in cafés/bars. Her special event pictures are the kinkiest in
the game. The karaoke one is a total rooster-sucking scene, and in
another, she gets soaked in the rain for a wet tee-shirt moment.

====================================
NATSUKI ITOH
====================================

Age: 15 Years Old
Sign: Pisces
Blood Type: O
Height: 150 cm
Measurements: B78 W61 H83
Hobby: Tedzukurisurukoto
Sukina Type: Normal
Frequently Visited Places: Information Center and Fashion of Panda
Department Store, Karaoke Corner of Panda Amuse
Happy Presents: Manicure, Pops CD, Wristwatch
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Hana Tsudzuki 2. Ayumi Shirai 3. Meifa
Lee

My Description: Natsuki’s family owns Itoh Mart, as you would assume.
She’s a sickeningly cute and sweet tomboy. I find it amusing how if you
look at all the prototype drawings of her, they progressively make her
less and less attractive. In particular, they made her clothes much
bigger and baggier, and they made her pose less provocative. It’s
obvious that they wanted to emphasize cuteness over sexiness, because
well... some guys actually find that in turn sexy. To add to the
cutesyness of it all, she speaks in katakana a lot. Makes her seem much
more childish than the other characters. Natsuki is a hard worker, but
she’s also rather playful. I find her special event pictures to be some
of the most disturbing in the game. O_o

====================================
HANA TSUDZUKI
====================================

Age: 15 Years Old
Sign: Capricorn
Blood Type: O
Height: 165 cm
Measurements: B77 W54 H78
Hobby: Reggae, Flea Market
Sukina Type: Cool
Frequently Visited Places: Ground, Panda Park, China Hao Hao, Game
Corner of Panda Amuse
Happy Presents: Reggae CD, Special Manga, Wristwatch
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Natsuki Itoh 2. Makoto Minagawa 3. Meifa
Lee

My Description: Total utter pothead. I mean, c’mon, it can’t be a
coincidence. She looks like the poster girl for hemp merchandise. Her
name means “flower”, and she loves Reggae, the park, the Flea Market,
and Chinese food. Her special event at Panda Burger (which isn’t even
one of her favorite places) is an absolute munchies moment. She also
does poorly in school, and she’s always crying with snot running out of
her nose... Frankly, I don’t see what anyone could find appealing about
her. She’s disgusting, disturbing looking, completely unattractive, and
her endings seriously freak the poop out of me.

====================================
MAKOTO MINAGAWA
====================================

Age: 15 Years Old
Sign: Leo
Blood Type: B
Height: 168 cm
Measurements: B86 W58 H86
Hobby: Photographs
Sukina Type: Normal
Frequently Visited Places: High School Front Plaza, Fashion and CD&BOOK
of Panda Department Store, Café Liquid
Happy Presents: Teddy Bear, Special Manga, Sandal
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Ayumi Shirai 2. Hana Tsudzuki 3. Shizuku
Morimura

My Description: At first Makoto seems like your typical “rich girl”.
Classy and elegant looking, but kind of snobby. She really grows on
you, though. She wears a simple but beautiful blue dress, and in my
opinion, she’s the second prettiest girl in the game. She has some of
the most flattering special event pictures in the game, and she’s got a
cool goofy looking cat. :) Makoto seems to be a common Japanese name
(at least in anime and games), but for those wondering, it means
“sincerity”/”devotion”/”truth”/etc.

====================================
KIIRO AMAMI
====================================

Age: 15 Years Old
Sign: Aquarius
Blood Type: AB
Height: 163 cm
Measurements: B84 W56 H85
Hobby: Ceramics, Games
Sukina Type: Wild
Frequently Visited Places: CD&BOOK of Panda Department Store, Panda
Burger, Café Liquid, Game Corner of Panda Amuse
Happy Presents: ?
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Shizuku Morimura 2. Ayumi Shirai

My Description: My favorite girl! My boyfriend thinks I like Kiiro just
because she’s SO much like me. :P At first I was a little turned off to
her because of her hippie-ish clothes, but after you play a little,
you’ll discover that she’s definitely no flower child (Hana better fits
that description). You can’t help but love her. She’s got gorgeous blue
eyes that you could drown in, beautiful blonde hair (her name actually
means “yellow”), and such a serious thoughtful expression on her face
at all times. She’s extremely quiet and antisocial which makes her very
hard to get. If you ask me, that’s just yet another thing that makes
her cool. She loves music (speaking of music, her theme in the game is
easily the best with its cool Indian-ish sound), art (in particular,
ceramics), and she kicks ass at video games. If you know me, you’re
probably tripping out at this point, but there’s more. :P Her school
clothing is JUST like how I would dress for school. Always in blue,
shirt open one button, hair down, and barrettes in the EXACT same
place. I was literally creeped out by the similarity. One of the
coolest things is getting her best ending and finally seeing her smile.
:)

====================================
SHIZUKU MORIMURA
====================================

Age: 16 Years Old
Sign: Cancer
Blood Type: A
Height: 155 cm
Measurements: B79 W56 H82
Hobby: Walking Dog, Piano
Sukina Type: Wild
Frequently Visited Places: Panda Park, Panda Municipal Library,
Information Center of Panda Department Store, Itoh Mart
Happy Presents: Mystery Novel, Special Manga, Pops CD
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Kiiro Amami 2. Meifa Lee 3. Makoto
Minagawa

My Description: Shizuku seems to be ill with something... She often
clutches at her chest, and when you visit her house, you have to put
her to bed... Perhaps it’s no coincidence that her sign is Cancer and
her hair is so short? Well, I can’t really tell if it’s something that
serious or not. Shizuku is a very peaceful and calm girl, so it makes
sense that her name means a “drop of water”. She’s very considerate and
sweet too. She absolutely loves her dog, and she reads for little
children at the library. Sometimes she’s freaky looking, but overall
I’d say she’s rather pretty. My boyfriend’s sister insists that Shizuku
looks like a boy, though. :/

====================================
MEIFA LEE
====================================

Age: 16 Years Old
Sign: Aries
Blood Type: B
Height: 153 cm
Measurements: B88 W60 H85
Hobby: Tai Chi Chuan
Sukina Type: Cool
Frequently Visited Places: High School Front Plaza, Panda Municipal
Library, China Hao Hao, Game Corner of Panda Amuse
Happy Presents: Necklace, Wristwatch, Sandal
Good Friend Relationships: 1. Natsuki Itoh 2. Shizuku Morimura 3. Hana
Tsudzuki

My Description: For fans of the opposite side of Shizuku, there’s
Meifa, the stereotypical exuberant spunky Chinese girl. She’s very
focused on doing well in school, she’s a whiz at video games, she helps
run the family business (which is, of course, a Chinese restaurant),
and to make it even more cliché, her favorite hobby is martial arts. :P
Not to mention, she’s always dressed in traditional Chinese clothing,
and her music is totally Chinese, gongs and all. Meifa is the most
expressive of all the Getter Love girls. Most of the girls have several
pictures that all look more or less similar, only the facial
expressions change. Meifa, on the other hand, REALLY shows you how she
feels. When she’s happy she claps her hands together in glee, and when
she’s angry she points her finger at you in disgust. In her special
events, she’s always kicking and chopping and whatnot. She definitely
had a little too much sugar in her dumplings. Oh, and this has nothing
to do with anything (unless you’re a horny 14 year old boy), but it’s
odd how Meifa appears the youngest and most childish in her pictures,
but she’s actually one of the oldest and has the biggest rack. O_o

====================================
REIKA KONGOUJI
====================================

My Description: AKA the Hose Beast. I don’t know if she’s actually
called that in the game or if the reviewer who used that term just made
it up, but it fits her perfectly. Reika is the girl you DON’T want to
get. Well, unless you’re incredibly twisted and demented. I think it’s
actually possible to get a (disturbing) ending with her, but you’d have
to be lucky (or rather “unlucky”) enough to run into her several times
in the game. Reika is one of those “I need a man!” chicks, and she
seems to be a semi-racist (in a non-malicious way, so don’t worry) take
on the whole “black southern bell” concept. Leave it to the Japanese to
be racist and get away with it. :P (Maybe no coincidence that her last
name contains “Kongo”?) If you run into Reika, she’ll ruin whatever
relationships you got going, and she’ll follow you wherever you go for
several turns. I think it goes without saying that she’s really, REALLY
ugly...

*******************************************
OTHER CHARACTERS
*******************************************

====================================
PLAYER 1 (RED)
====================================

My Description: You. In story mode, you’re always player 1, the red
guy. You can select one of eight difference faces, but your little
polygonal dude always looks the same. Your house is in the upper left
corner.

====================================
CHIKASHI YOSHIKAWA - PLAYER 2 (BLUE)
====================================

Overconfident High School Student
From Hokkaidou
Sign: Sagittarius
Blood Type: B

My Description: Chikashi must be overconfident in his sexuality too
because he dresses like he strays the other way... He’s got a short
tight blue tee shirt that shows off his stomach (which ISN’T a six-
pack, mind you), and his shiny black leather pants are tight enough to
kill any chance of him ever fathering any children. His shoes look like
women’s shoes... Despite all that, Chikashi’s suspicious wardrobe isn’t
his most noticeable feature. That would be... his eyebrows. They rival
the Juiceman’s eyebrows in weirdness. His sly and arrogant nature
really makes him easy to despise sometimes...

====================================
DAISUKE SATOH - PLAYER 3 (YELLOW)
====================================

Kinoii High School Student
Judo Member
Sign: Taurus
Blood Type: O

My Description: Daisuke is your typical slightly heavy-built popular
high school guy. He just screams “I like sports and girls!” His clothes
are nothing unusual. Just a baggy shirt and jeans with sneakers.
Daisuke seems like such a jolly doofus that you almost feel happy for
him when he’s kicking everybody’s butt in story mode... ALMOST...

====================================
SESSYUU NAKAYAMA - PLAYER 4 (GREEN)
====================================

Shy High School Student
Sakanazuki
Practical Point of View
Sign: Gemimi
Blood Type: AB

My Description: Sessyuu looks more like a girl than some of the actual
girls do... He’s quiet and reserved, but he dresses very eccentrically.
He’s got a lime green shirt, tight canary yellow pants, and a bright
orange school bag. He may seem timid around the ladies, but watch out.
Sometimes Sessyuu is practically ready to have a girl in the sack in
just a few days (no, that doesn’t actually happen in this game :P ). Of
all the opponents, Sessyuu seems to piss me off the most when he’s
beating me...

====================================
ALFONSO ROBERTO MARTINI
====================================

Italian Overseas Student
Class Committee Chairman
Sign: Libra
Blood Type: A

My Description: Yep, you read right... that’s really his name. :)
Alfonso is the coolest. He’s such a stereotypical hip outgoing Italian
teen. He’s always hamming it up with dramatic gestures, wants to get
involved in everything, and his outfit looks like it’s made by a top
Italian designer. He’s always wearing a white suit with a green shirt,
yellow tie, and stylish shoes. :P He’s sort of the “host” or “referee”
of Getter Love. He tells you the rules of the game, informs everybody
of the status of the game in “Alfonso News”, gives out clues and
presents, and if you’re doing REALLY bad, he’ll call you up on your
cell phone to let you know where the girls are.

====================================
KAORU TUZI THE CAFÉ LIQUID MASTER
====================================

Age: 27 Years Old
Sign: Scorpio
Blood Type: O
Hobby: Bike, Snorkel
Gives Advice on the Troubles of Adolescents

My Description: Kaoru is a total Bowman wannabe. :P He even has Bowman-
ish music. He’s all suave and retro hip with the coffee mug and the
shades. He only serves one real purpose, though. When you just can’t
seem to go to the right place at the right time to meet a particular
girl, go see Kaoru at Café Liquid. Ask about that chick, and he’ll tell
you where the girl will be on the next turn.

====================================
DOROBOU NEKO (THIEF CAT)
====================================

My Description: Occasionally you’ll have the unfortunate luck of
running into the insane looking Thief Cat. You’ll have to choose
between one of three options, and depending on your luck, he may steal
one of your items, leave you alone, or drop an item he stole from
someone else.

====================================
THUNDER NO SHOU
====================================

My Description: This generic Terry Bogard rip-off will challenge you
now and then. If you lose, your energy goes down. :( If you win,
however, the approval feelings all the girls have for you go up
slightly.

====================================
FAMILY
====================================

My Description: Sometimes this crazy looking family will ask of your
assistance. If you do some construction work for them, you’ll be paid
5000 yen, but your energy will go down from doing the hard labor.

====================================
MUFUFUN BAIT
====================================

My Description: Uh... yeah... I can’t for the life of me figure out
this woman’s name, but I call her the “Herpes Whore”. :P This nasty
chick who looks like a prostitute will sometimes show up, and you have
the option of accepting or declining her offer. If you accept, you see
a little sequence with hearts and total “getting it on” music. Then she
gives you 10000 yen and leaves. The downside is that it lowers the
approval feelings the girls have for you. Maybe she’s just some super
horny older chick who’s so desperate for some high school boy loving
that she’s willing to pay for it. :P

====================================
FRESH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
====================================

My Description: These guys are what I like to call “The Wu-Tang Clan
Fan and His Buddies”. Yep, one of the boys has a Wu-Tang Clan shirt on,
and no, I don’t think Hudson paid for the rights to use it. :P The Wu-
Tang Clan will probably never know that their symbol was used in a
Japanese-only dating sim on N64 either. Anyway, these kids show up to
chitchat, offer some info on the girls, and sometimes give you one of
the Topic items that unlock the dialogue-only Memories.

====================================
YOUNG BOYS
====================================

My Description: These mischievous looking kids basically do the same
thing as the previous group of students.

====================================
PANKICHI
====================================

My Description: I saved the best for last. The panda isn’t so much of
an actual character as it is the sort of “mascot” of Getter Love.
Everything is panda themed, and it’s one demented looking panda. (See
the ASCII art above.) Maybe it’s kinda silly, but I think the panda
makes the game more enjoyable. :)

*******************************************
NAVIGATING THE MENUS
*******************************************

First things first, if you intend on saving your game, make sure you
have a controller pak (AKA memory card) snapped inside your controller.
You’ll need at least 18 pages free to save your progress in one play
through of Getter Love. Rankings and Memories are saved directly to the
cart, however.

After powering on the system, Alfonso and your three rivals will pop up
with some information about the game (probably plot info). Press A or
Start to skip past it if you wish. Now the intro sequence will begin.
Yet again, you can press A or Start to skip it. At the title screen,
press... you know. If you let it sit at the title screen for awhile,
you’ll get to see pictures of all the chicks in the game and some
statistics about them (see the character bios for the statistics).

Okay, now you should be at the main menu. The character at the side is
selected randomly every time you enter this menu. He or she will
describe all the menu options in his or her own manner of speaking. The
order and translations of the menu options is as follows:

Game Start
Game Load
Battle
Ranking
Memories
Option

Pretty self-explanatory. See below for the descriptions and sub-menus
of each option. At any time you may press the B button to go back in
the menus or select the white hexagonal button with the arrow to exit
the current menu and return to the last.

GAME START – This is where all the fun happens. To begin playing Getter
Love, select one of the four types of play:

Yellow Button (“N”) – Hitoride Asobu (To Play by Oneself) Game Normal
 Mode
Bright Green Button (“VS”) – Minnade Asobu (To Play Multi-player) Game
 Normal Mode
Blue-Green Button (“VS”) – Minnade Asobu (To Play Multi-player) Game
Hitori no Onnanoko Nerau yo (Everybody Going For Only One Girl)
Bright Blue Button (“VS”) – Minnade Asobu (To Play Multi-player) Game
Onnanoko no Kisou yo (Compete With Everyone For All Girls In 14 Days)

The first option, the single-player normal mode, is the main story mode
of the game. It is also the focus of this FAQ. When you select it, you
will be presented with two more options. Choose the yellow heart button
to begin playing or choose Alfonso’s head to hear a description of the
game. At this point, I will now direct you to the Playing Normal Mode
section of this FAQ for further information on the single-player normal
mode.

For the three multi-player games, you will be taken to a more complex
menu of options to set-up the game. Your choices are:

Yellow Button (Heart) – Begin Game
1 Member Erabuyo – select which players will be human controlled or
what kind of computer controlled opponents (Wild/Normal/Cool) you
 will face.
2 Youshi, Tairyoku, Okane Erabuyo – select one of five settings for
each player that determines the Appearance energy, Physical Strength
energy, and money they begin the game with. The settings are:
Mecha yo Waku Naruyo – Extremely Weak
   Yo Waku Naruyo – Weak
Futsuu Dayo – Normal (in the middle)
   Tsuyoku Naruyo – Strong
Mecha Tsuyoku Naruyo – Extremely Strong
3 Select which ending the winner must receive (Girigiri, Maamaa,
Sukisuki, or Love Love) for the first two VS modes or select how many
days the game will last for the third VS mode
Alfonso’s Head – Description of Game

In the second VS game, you will have to pick a “Heroine”. That mode can
not beaten with any other girl, so every player will compete for that
girl’s love. Select the green heart button to have the heroine selected
at random.

Despite the differences, the multi-player games play essentially the
same as the normal single-player mode, so for tips and strategies, see
the Playing Normal Mode section of this FAQ.

GAME LOAD – This is where you can load a game in progress, delete a
game, or clear the data on the cart. Be careful what you select or you
may lose your data. The first two options are:

Red Button (“Play”) – Load Game Files
Orange Button (“DEL”) – Delete Game Files, Rankings, and Memories Data

In the loading menu, select the number corresponding to the controller
port in which you have the desired controller pak connected to. Then
select either of the two files you wants to load. A window will pop up
stating some information on the file (the current day, your character
type, and the names of all the players). If it’s the correct file,
press A, and if not, press B.

In the deleting menu, select the number corresponding to the controller
port in which you have the desired controller pak connected to in order
to delete game files. Select the yellow button with the “R” on it to
delete rankings, and select the green heart button to delete Memories.

BATTLE – In the Battle menu, you can practice all four games, compete
against up to three other players, or just have some fun if you’re not
in the mood for the love simulation aspects of the game. See the 3D
mini-game section of this FAQ for playing information on these four
games:

1 Quiz De Pon!
2 Mike De Pon!
3 2 Doutte Pon!
4 Date DE Punch!

After selecting a game, you will be brought to a menu in which you
select which players are controlled by the computer (COM) or a human by
pressing left or right. If there is no controller in the corresponding
controller port, you cannot change the COM setting. If you so wish, it
is possibly to have ALL four players set to the computer. Press B if
you want to go back.

After that choice, the first three games will begin, but Date DE Punch
has a couple more menus. First select which player controls the hammer.
If you select a player other than yourself, you will be in control of
one of the circles. In the next menu, select which girl you want to
accompany you (each has her own way of helping you) or select the green
heart button for the girl to be chosen randomly.

RANKING – When you beat the normal story mode, your winning statistics
will be added to these four Ranking pages. After you have selected one,
you can simply press left or right to scroll through the other three.

1 Ranking 1
Ichiban Nakayoshi (Best Intimacy) – stores the highest amount of love
feelings (AKA the largest heart) that each girl has had for you at
your time of beating the game.
2 Ranking 2
Stores the number of times you’ve beaten the game with each girl.
3 Ranking 3
Ichiban Hayaku (Best Fast Time) – stores the earliest day and time
you’ve beaten the game with each girl.
4 Ranking 4
Stores the earliest day and time you’ve gotten the Love Love Ending
 with each girl.

MEMORIES – Here is where all the Topics, Special Events, and Endings
you have unlocked are stored. The options are:

Red Button (Lips) – Topics
Orange Button (Film Roll) – Special Event Pictures and Endings

Within the Topics menu, the fifty Topics are broken up into five
groups:

1 Topic 1~10
2 Topic 11~20
3 Topic 21~30
4 Topic 31~40
5 Topic 41~50

For the Special Event and Endings menu, see the Memories section of
this FAQ for the order of the listings.

OPTION – Well, I should hope you know what an Option menu is and what
kind of options they usually have. Getter Love’s Option menu is nothing
out of the ordinary:

1 Normal Mode no Asobi Katadayo (Playing Normal Mode) – see below
2 Message Speed – select how fast you want the messages to scroll.
1 Futsuu no Hayasa Dayo – slowest; stops for short time after text
2 Chotto Hayai yo – just a little fast (default speed)
3 Kanari Hayai yo – considerably fast
4 Player advances text (except for when the AI has to make a choice).
3 Sound – select the proper sound output for your television.
 Red Button – Stereo
 Orange Button – Monaural (Mono)
4 Credits Roll – the REAL credits of the game.

The first option in the Options menu is an EXTENSIVE tutorial on just
about everything in the game. If you know Japanese, you’re in luck, but
if not, all I can offer is my own FAQ and these descriptions of what
the tutorial explains:

| Numbered Houses/Areas Listed Below |
--------------------------------------

NOTE: All unnumbered locations are unimportant and just there for
looks. Most are the homes of the girls.

THE KEY LOCATIONS:

1. KOUKOU MAE HIROBA (HIGH SCHOOL FRONT PLAZA) – It’s free to visit,
and it’s open at all times.

2. GROUND – You can’t have dates here, so it won’t cost you any yen.
Only open in the morning and afternoon.

3. PANDA SHIRITSU TOSHOKAN (MUNICIPAL LIBRARY) – It costs 600 yen to
take a girl on a date to the library. Not open at night.

4. PANDA KOUEN (PARK) – The park is the cheapest place to go on a date
at just 500 yen. It’s also open all the time. The Flea Market is
only open once a week (day 1, day 7, day 14) in the morning.

5. PANDA BURGER – It’ll set you back 1000 yen to get some Panda fast
food with your chick. It’s open 24/7.

6. PANDA HYAKKATEN (DEPARTMENT STORE) – Opening mornings and
  afternoons.

Jouhou (Information) Center – No charge to visit.
Fashion – Takes a whopping 2000 yen to take a girl clothes shopping.
  CD&BOOK – Also costs 2000 yen on a date.

7. PANDA AMUSEMENT – Open all day and night.

Game Corner – Costs 1000 yen to play the games.
Karaoke Corner – Pay 1600 yen to sing karaoke with your girl.

8. CHUUKA (CHINA) HAO HAO – Closed in the afternoon. It costs 1200 yen
  to order a meal.

9. ITOH MART – Another place that is off-limits for dating (who would
want to take their girl to a grocery store, anyway?), so it costs
you nothing to visit. Open all the time.

10. CAFÉ LIQUID – It’s called a café, but it’s more like a bar. It’s
open 24/7, and it takes a mere 800 yen to invite a girl there.

11. JITAKU (ONE’S HOME) – The red home in the upper left corner will
always be your home in the normal story mode. The other three will
be the homes of the AI-controlled opposing characters. If you
happen to be playing Getter Love multiplayer, the second player
will be in the upper right blue house, the third player will be in
the lower left yellow house, and the fourth player will be in the
   lower right green house.

PLAYING NORMAL MODE
*******************************************

The story of normal mode is as follows:

Sessyuu is leaning against the windowsill of his classroom looking a
bit melancholy. Chikashi sneaks up on him and grabs him around the neck
in an attempt at snapping him out of his gloom. Being his typical cocky
arrogant self, Chikashi feels a little time with a girl would cheer
Sessyuu right up, so he cooks up the idea of a competition to see who
can get a girlfriend first. Sessyuu doesn’t seem too thrilled. Daisuke
pops in through the door and wants to know what all the fuss is about.
Chikashi explains the idea to him, and Daisuke wants in. Sessyuu is
very exasperated at this point... but Chikashi is pumped and ready to
go. Alfonso shows up out of nowhere and appoints himself host of the
competition.

There’s one other player of course, though – you. Now let’s get
playing!

If you’ve been reading the other sections of the FAQ, by now you should
know that to save your progress in the game, you’ll need a controller
pak (memory card). To be more exact, you’ll need 18 free pages for each
file. While the normal story mode can be as short as four days,
sometimes it’ll drag on all the way to around ten days. Unless you
don’t mind playing for a few hours straight, I recommend you save at
least once and continue later. There’s something more important about
saving to a controller pak, though... A strategy you’re going to learn
the hard way...

RESET, RESET, RESET.

Yep, unless you know Japanese very well AND you’re a whiz at Getter
Love, you’re going to want to reset at least occasionally, if not
often. Things not going your way? Reset and try again. Now that you
have the most basic strategy in Getter Love down, let’s get started by
setting up the game.

I assume you’ve already checked the Navigating the Menus section if you
need help in that regards, so after you have selected Game Start and
the single-player normal mode, you will have to enter a name for your
character. Conveniently, the Roman alphabet is available, so you can
enter your name in English. If you so desire, there are also all the
hiragana and katakana characters to choose from, a set of numbers, and
a select few punctuation symbols. Press A to select a character, B to
erase, and Start to finish. You can also use the arrows to highlight
the different characters you have entered in order to make alterations,
and “End” works the same as the Start button. After selecting “End” or
pressing Start, choose the first option to continue or the second to go
back to working on your name.

Now pick a dude! A name isn’t enough; you need a face too. Each guy has
a description that’ll appear in your corresponding number and color
box. Use this little chart for the translations:

-----------------
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|---+---+---+---|
| 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
-----------------

1. Normal Sarasara – Just your run-of-the-mill looking dude.
2. Tsuntsun (Pointed) Short – Pointy short black hair.
3. Middle Wave – Kinda long wavy brown hair. Looks like my brother. O_o
4. Layer Short – This dude with short red hair looks just like Sessyuu.
5. Straight Long – Spiffy little shades holding back this guy’s hair.
6. Dread – He may have dreadlocks, but he definitely ain’t Jamaican.
7. Tsuntsun (Pointed) Middle – Pointy, but kind of flowing blond hair.
8. Skinhead – Tsk, tsk, game developers. :P Just a blue-dyed buzz cut.

Select the funny looking little dude you want to be by pressing A, and
yet again choose the top option to continue, or the bottom to go back.

Now select your Kimete (Winning Move). I’ve yet to figure out how they
affect the game. In fact, I haven’t noticed any effect. It’s probably
just something for fun like entering your name and choosing a face.
Here is a chart of the choices you have.

----------------------------------------
| Kore Nisuru Zo!     Kore Nisuru Ze!  |
| Kore Nisuru Zura    Kore Nisuru Zoyo |
| Kore Nisuru Dechi   Kore Nisuru Nari |
| Kore Nisuru Nyoro   Kore Nisuru Poni |
----------------------------------------

Choose one by pressing A, and press it again to continue. Now Alfonso
will show up and chat for awhile. Soon he will give you a roulette of
four of the girls from the game (Ayumi, Natsuki, Hana, and Makoto).
Simply press A to stop it and select a girl. Whichever girl you end up
with will be the “Nakayoshi Onnako” (Intimate Friend Girl) of the
story. While the other girls everyone will have to meet for the first
time, this girl will start out with a little bit of love for every
player. That means when you run into her for the first time, you can
immediately invite her on a date. She also may start calling you on the
phone right away. While this is sometimes a nice advantage, more often
than not the computer AI will gang up on her, so you’re better off
going after a girl the other players aren’t competing for.

When the Nakayoshi girl is chosen, she will pop up and ask what type of
guy you are. Select the top option to be Wild, the middle to be Normal,
or the bottom to be Cool. Each girl likes a different type of guy (see
The Girls section of the FAQ), so at this point it’s good to have
already made the decision of which girl you’d like to beat the game
with.

Now Alfonso will give you a randomly chosen item to start out with, and
the game will begin!

Your very first turn is when you really have to decide what your goals
are for this play through. First things first, pick out a girl if you
haven’t already. Be a one-lady man. If you go for all the girls, you’re
gonna lose. Then find the girl in The Girls section of the FAQ. Try to
memorize the girl’s Frequently Visited Locations and her Happy
Presents. In the very least, keep the information handy because you
absolutely need it.

If there is a particular Special Event or Ending you want to try to
get, now is the time to consider your strategy. If you want the Beach
or Shinto shrine events, I recommend you go to the Flea Market at Panda
Park or the Information Center in the Panda Department Store on your
first turn to see if you can pick up the required item card. See the
Item Card List for more details on those two cards. For all the other
Special Events and Endings, see the Memories section for info on how to
set into action those events.

Each time before the actions of a turn begins, all the players will be
brought to the screen in which they can manage their items, get info on
the girls, and select the location they desire to visit on the map.
There is a circular menu that is around each player’s head. Press left
or right to scroll through these options:

Pink Button (Door) – Brings up a cursor that you can use to select
where you want to go on the Panda Town Map.
Red Button (Gift Box) – Check out what items you currently have and
throw out unneeded ones (better off using them as gifts, though).
Green Button (Lips) – Check out what Memory-unlocking Topics you
currently have and throw out unneeded ones.
Blue Button (Date Book) – View the dates you have set for the next
 three turns.
Yellow Button (Keyhole) – Find out each girl’s Sukina Type, Frequently
Visited Locations, Happy Presents, and Good Friend Relationships.

After you select the Pink Button to choose the location you want,
around your character’s head you’ll see the characters type represented
by blue dots for cool and red dots for red. You can also tell how much
Youshi (Appearance) and Tairyoku (Physical Strength) energy you have by
how your character looks. If he’s happy, his Tairyoku energy is high,
and if he’s sparkling, his Youshi energy is high. However, if he’s got
flies circling him, he’s getting stinky, so his Youshi energy is low.
If he looks kind of sad and tired, his Tairyoku energy is low. If he’s
got three flies circling him or he’s got the Japanese “x_x” face, his
respective energy bars are VERY low, and I highly recommend you go to
your home in order to bathe or sleep.

At any time on this menu, you can press the Start button for a pause
menu. Which of the three options are available depend on what mode
you’re currently playing. The options are (in the following order):
change between human and COM players and change AI’s Sukina types,
change the message speed, and change the number of days the game lasts.
Choose the last option to exit the pause menu. See the Navigating the
Menus section of this FAQ for more info on what each option does.

Now to make your move, bring the arrow of your color to the location
you wish to visit and press A. If you get a buzzing sound and you can’t
enter it, it means one of two things. Either the place is closed at
that time of day or you’re completely out of one or both of your energy
bars. You can’t go to any place but your own home when you’re
completely out of Youshi and/or Tairyoku energy. You must clean
yourself or rest. See the Panda Town Map section of this FAQ for more
information on the locations of the town.

On your very first move in the game, I highly recommend you do one of
the three following things. One, go to Panda Park or the Information
Center to look for Umi or Jinja Date Cards if you so desire to get the
Beach and/or Shinto shrine events. Two, if the girl you want has Café
Liquid as one of her Frequently Visited Places, GO THERE. Even if she
ends up going somewhere else, you can still ask Kaoru where she will be
on the next turn. Or three, if neither of the prior two situations
apply to you, simply go to one of the girl’s Frequently Visited Places
and hope for the best. If you don’t run into her, don’t worry; it’s no
big deal.

When you reach your chosen destination, you will likely run into one of
the games “Baits” (see Other Characters section) if no one else is
there, or if someone is, you’ll go straight to the menu. Use the A
button to select a girl, the numbered buttons to select a rival, the
green gift box item to use cards, the yellow yen button to shop (where
applicable), or the white hexagonal back button to end your turn. If
you happen to run into Alfonso, select the red button to receive a
present (an item card) or the yellow heart button just to talk.

If you run into a rival, you can speak to him (which occasionally
unlocks a Topic), and then you’re presented with a menu. Select the red
lip button to give away your Topics, the orange gift box button to give
away items, the yellow heart button to talk, the green “VS” button to
battle, or the white hexagonal back button to end your turn. If you
choose to battle, a menu of the three normal battle games pops up, but
you can’t pick whichever you want. Instead a roulette starts, and
whatever button is selected when you press the A button is the one you
have to play. At this point you should be praying you don’t get the
quiz game. :P

Hopefully, if you got lucky, you ran into at least one girl. Even if
she wasn’t the one you wanted, it’s always helpful to meet new girls
because it gives you a small boost to your energy bars. On rare
occasions, if there are two girls who are friends at the same location,
you may get to speak to both at once. You’ll gain two rows of Love Love
Points for each girl! If you ran into the Nakayoshi girl, you can
immediately start dating. Skip down about seven paragraphs for
information on setting up a date.

Once the turn is over, the PHS (AKA cell phones) start ringing. On rare
occasions no one will get a call, but after most turns at least one
player will. The calls are from either Alfonso or the girls. Only girls
whom you are acquainted with can call you. They may ask you out on a
date, tell you where they will be on the next turn (results in a gain
of one row of Love Love Points), or if you missed a date, they will
call you to tell you that they’re upset (lose Love Love Points). If
they ask you out, select the first option to accept (“Un...”) or the
second to decline (“Gomen...”). Be careful not to accept a date at a
time that you’ve already arranged a date for.

When Alfonso calls, it’s usually when you’re doing poorly. He’ll help
you out by telling you where one girl will be on the next turn.
Sometimes Alfonso will call up a player to set up a meeting at Café
Liquid. The chosen character select one rival and one girl to join him.
The Nakayoshi girl of the game also shows up. If one of the girls has a
date already set up, she will be absent from the meeting. If one of the
players fails to show up, Alfonso will call him and chastise him.

After the phone calls are all over, the turn officially ends, and the
players are brought back to the menu in which they make their decisions
for the next turn. Sometimes between two turns, Alfonso will do a short
news clip. Pay attention to what he says. If he says something about a
“happening” at a certain location, that means a special event will be
available. However, unless the girl already likes you a fair amount,
you won’t be able to get the special event.

Finish up the first three turns however you like. Just try to meet the
girl you want and buy any items you may need. When the final turn of
the day is over, Alfonso News will begin! :) Alfonso gives various
information and advice on how to play the game. Then the VERY important
Love Love Point heart chart shows up. The first time a player meets a
girl they gain a little heart for the girl. Every time her Love Love
Points for him goes up, the heart gets bigger. Once it gets fairly big,
it’ll be possible to win the game by professing your love for the girl.
When the hearts get big for your rivals... watch out. They may beat you
at any time. Use this chart to your advantage when trying to get the
different endings.

Later on, Alfonso may give presents to those who are doing poorly in
the game during Alfonso News. At first the card may be nothing to worry
about like a useless sukina type card, but after awhile... those Geri
Cards and Akuma Panda Cards can kill you when you’re doing well. Watch
out for opponents with dangerous cards.

It’s time to save after Alfonso News has wrapped up and the crazy
pelvic-thrusting panda appears. Choose the first option to select a
controller pak and save. Choose the second option if for some reason
you don’t wish to. DO IT, though. It’s time for the game to get
serious, and trust me, you’ll need that backed up data...

By now you may be a little low on Youshi or Tairyoku energy. (Press the
Start button at any time during a turn to check how much energy and
money you and the other players have.) If so, stay at your own home for
the turn. Your options are:

Red Button (Happy Face) – Bathe to recover Youshi energy.
Orange Button (Sleepy Face) – Sleep to recover Tairyoku energy.
Yellow Button (¥/Yen) – Withdraw 1000 yen.
Green Button (Gift Box) – Use an item.
White Hexagonal Button (Arrow) – End your turn.

Only return to your home if you really need to, though, because this
first turn of the second day is your perfect chance to get the ball
rolling in the game if you haven’t already. If you don’t know where
your girl is going to be, use this opportunity to meet up with her. All
the girls, with the exception of the Hose Beast, have their
destinations predetermined. That means if you go to the wrong place,
simply reset the Nintendo 64, load your file, and go to where she went
previously. No matter how many times you reset, she’ll keep going to
that same place on that turn in that file.

Chances are you’re ready to get dating. When you meet a girl for the
second time (or the first time with the Nakayoshi girl), you’ll gain
access to the main menu you use for all your actions with the girls.
The options are:

Red Button (Date Book) – Set up a date with the girl.
Orange Button (Gift Box) – Give a present or item card to the girl.
Yellow Button (Heart) – Profess your love to the girl.
White Hexagonal Button (Arrow) – End your turn.

You should know how to use items by now, and professing your love is
for later when your Love Love Point heart is much bigger. For now,
invite the girl on your first date.

On the right side of the screen, a calendar chart appears showing what
you have planned for the next 6 turns (two days). Whatever time period
is blank is perfect for a date. I prefer to set up dates on afternoons
and evenings, though, because you can always find a girl in the morning
(by simply resetting). In the menu, numerous town locations are listed
along with the price you have to pay in order to have a date at each
place. You can also use the back button if you change your mind about
setting up a date. The places you can go out on dates at from the start
are (in the following order from left to right):

Orange Button (Book) – Panda Municipal Library
Yellow Button (Shirt) – Fashion
Bright Green Button (Headphones) – CD&BOOK
Dull Green Button (Panda Head) – Panda Burger
Green-Blue Button (Mug) – Café Liquid
Light Blue Button (Bowl) – China Hao Hao
Dark Blue Button (Rocket) – Game Corner
Purple Button (Note) – Karaoke Corner

See the Panda Town Map section of the FAQ for information on when the
locations are open and how much they cost. Later on, when the girl
likes you more, other places will become available. Panda Park will
appear at the beginning of the list (as a red button), and your own
home will be available (for one date only). If you acquire the Umi or
Jinja Date Card, those will also appear on the list. Some places are
never available for dates however (like the Ground, Information Center,
Itoh Mart, et cetera).

Once you’ve chosen a location for your date, select a day and time for
it to occur. Do this by simply matching it up on the calendar. Each day
has it’s own color, and the time periods of each day are color-coded
as:

Green – Morning
Tan – Afternoon
Blue - Night

If all goes well, the date will be set, and you’ll receive one row of
Love Love Points from the girl. You should always be aware of what the
other players are doing, though. If the girl already has a date planned
with another character at that time, it’s basically a wasted turn for
you.

Upon arriving at your date (or when the girl arrives if you happen to
get there first), her Love Love Points for you should go up a row or
two. Then one of several things can happen, good or bad. If you arrive
with low Youshi and/or Tairyku energy or you just lost a battle, the
girl will be disappointed with you. Her Love Love Points will go down a
bit for you and she’ll leave. Thus ruining your date. If you just spoke
to another girl and invited her on a date as well, both girls will be
upset at your two-timing. You then get an option to choose which girl
you care about more. The top will be your date, and the bottom option
will be the other girl. As expected, the chosen girl will be happy,
while the other will lose even more Love Love Points for you.

Now assuming you did none of those things to mess up your date, it
should progress like normal. Usually the girl will start talking a bit
with Love Love Points going up occasionally. Sometimes the conversation
will result in you acquiring a Memory-unlocking Topic or a present. If
she speaks for a long time straight, that almost always results in a
Love Love Point gain of three rows.

Often times, the girl will have a question for you. This is a very
risky moment if you don’t know Japanese, or even if you just don’t know
the answer. An answer that the girl approves of will result in some
gained Love Love Points, but if you choose a reply that upsets them...
say good bye to at least a row or two of Love Love Points. When this
happens, it’s best to reset. No, you can’t simply memorize the answers.
You will see the same responses over and over, but each girl reacts to
them differently. Not to mention the time in the game and how much the
girl loves you affects what answers they approve and disapprove. What
may be a good answer early on could be one that upsets them greatly
later.

If you REALLY mess up by answering a question horribly wrong, the girl
will lose at least two rows of Love Love Points, and when you reach
Alfonso News, you’ll notice your Love Love heart on the chart will be
replaced with a Japanese anime “frustration” symbol. At this point,
you’re basically screwed. It’s possible to recover, but it’ll take
numerous turns before the girl is longer angry with you. It is almost
absolutely necessary to reset if this happens, and this is also another
reason why I recommend resetting after every wrong answer.

Sometimes one of the answers will be in yellow text rather than white.
This means you can answer the question with one of the Memory-unlocking
Topics you’ve acquired. They very rarely result in a negative response
from the girls, so they’re pretty safe. If you want the Topic saved to
the game’s Memory data, you’ll have to beat the game.

Rarely, a battle or a special event will take place on a date. The Date
DE Punch game occurs randomly (see the 3D Mini-Games section for
gameplay information), but special events are more about being in the
right place with a high enough level of Love Love Points.

When the date wraps up, the girl will say good bye and leave, or you’ll
be taken to the main menu for the girls. Set up another date, give her
a present, or just leave. The decision is yours.

Continue through the game using your best judgement. Set up lots of
dates with the girl you want, use items to help yourself or hinder your
opponents, use the Brake and Dash techniques to your advantage on the
town map, challenge your rivals to battles when convenient, and most
importantly, PAY ATTENTION TO ALFONSO NEWS. Try to get all the special
events with your girl (gives you a great boost of five rows of Love
Love Points for each event), and keep an eye on the Love Love Point
heart chart.

If you’ve followed everything in this FAQ, hopefully you’re doing
pretty well. As great as it is to be in the lead, the other opponents
tend to gang up on you with negatively affecting items, battles, and
yes... even the Hose Beast becomes more of a problem. Between trying to
do well on your dates, your rivals, and Reika, you’re going to need to
reset the game a lot more often than you did early on in the game. It
may be annoying, but it’s worth it. You want to beat the game and
unlock all those Topics and pictures, don’tcha?

As the Love Love Points rise, your girl may get more “aggressive” with
you. She’ll probably call you after every turn if you don’t already
have a date set up in order to let you know where she’ll be or to ask
you out. Eventually she should give you her present. At that point, you
know you’re doing well with her, and you’re the only guy she cares
about. If she gives it to another guy, it’s still possible for you to
beat the game with her, though. If you’re very lucky, she may invite
you to her home at one point. Do everything you possibly can to reach
the day, time, and location of the date successfully. If you manage to
pull it off, you’ll get the very elusive special event at the girl’s
home. If you get even luckier yet, the girl may profess HER love to you
at some point. Thus ending the game and resulting in the extremely
difficult to acquire Love Love ending.

When your Love Love Point heart inflates to a decent size (several
times its original size), you should be able to profess your love and
win. However, depending on what ending you want, you may want to wait.
The Sukisuki ending takes a lot more love than the Girigiri ending. The
Love Love ending pretty much takes the maximum amount. Since the Love
Love ending is so hard to acquire, I usually play as long as I possibly
can in the file. When one of the rivals professes his love, that’s it,
though. The computer AI NEVER professes its love unless it will win. It
is possible to reload the file when the computer beats you to attempt
to ruin that rival’s meeting with the girl, but that usually only buys
you one additional turn. Once the computer reaches that point, he will
keep attempting to beat the game on each additional turn if at all
possible.

Once you’re ready to profess your love, simply meet up with the girl
somewhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s a date or not. If it’s not a date,
just make sure you arrive at the location after the girl because
usually when a girl gets there after you she’ll ask you on a date and
leave. If you can’t get to the main menu with the girls, you can’t
profess your love.

However, if you’re trying for the Love Love Ending, the only time it
can occur is when you arrive at a location before the girl and you are
NOT on a date with her. If all goes well, the girl will ask you a
question with only two answers. Choose the first, and she will ask
another two-answer question. Select the first again, and boom, the Love
Love Ending is yours. :)

I HIGHLY recommend you profess your love on a morning. Not only does it
give you a chance to check your Love Love Point heart in Alfonso News
right beforehand, but it also makes it convenient to reset. You should
probably know by now that to profess your love you must select the
yellow heart button. At this point, you must answer several questions
in a row. I find they make very little difference in whether you win or
not. It all comes down to the size of your Love Love Point heart. Just
choose the first option over and over if you don’t understand the
answers. If the girl loves you enough...

CONGRATULATIONS! You beat the normal story mode!

If not...

Reset and play some more in order to build up your Love Love Point to a
larger size. Even if you do win, you may want to load the file again
after the ending in order to try for a different ending or more Topics
and pictures.

After the fanfare and confetti, Alfonso will show up and do the final
news report. He’ll show the statistics of the game, and then each girl
and rival will have something to say. With that done, your girl will
reappear and speak with you intimately. She’ll ask you a question, but
your reply doesn’t really matter. A notice about the Rankings and
Memories being updates will pop up in the text box, and then... time
for your ending! Some have a still picture with a little bit of text,
while the better ones are animated, have remixed music, and last a lot
longer. When the ending wraps up, the “credits” will roll. They’re not
the real credits of the game (which are accessible in the Options
menu). They’re just silly joke credits listing the girls, all the Bait
characters, the school plaza’s panda statues (one of which is Marilyn
Monroe o_O ), Shizuku’s dog, you get the idea. :P

Some insignificant information will pop up on a black screen, and then
your Memories statistics will be shown. It lists how many Topics and
Memories you unlocked in this play through (including ones you may
already have saved to the cart), and it shows how many Topics and
Memories you have unlocked total out of the maximum amount. Now the
game resets, and you can play again! :P

3D MINI-GAMES
*******************************************

While Getter Love claims to be a board game/love simulation, the board
game mini-games are few and far apart between. Also there are only four
of them. They can be quite useful, though. When somebody challenges
you, you basically gotta win just so you don’t get screwed over, but if
you challenge someone else... you can get a lot out of it. First of
all, if you win, it’ll ruin your rival’s date. You also get your choice
of a prize:

Red Button (Lips) – Steal a Memory-unlocking Topic
Orange Button (Down Arrow) – Steal a lot of Youshi and Tairyoku energy
Yellow Button (Yen/¥) – Steal 5000 yen
Green Button (Gift Box) – Steal an item
Blue-Green Button (Lips) – Change rival’s name (useless)
Pink Button (Broken Heart) – Break up one of the rival’s planned dates

If you are just somebody’s team member in a battle, you will gain 2000
yen if your team won or lose 2000 yen if your team lost. Here are
descriptions and tips for the four mini-games:

QUIZ DE PON

I dread getting the quiz game in Getter Love because, frankly, it’s
impossible to do much more than guess the answers if you lack a good
understanding of the Japanese language. Thankfully some questions can
be figured out if you look for key shapes, numbers, and katakana words.
The person asking the question will often have some relevance to it as
well, so if you see Kaoru the Café Liquid Master ask a short question
that has only numbers for the answer, he’s most likely asking what his
age is. If a girl says something about a “present” in katakana, she’s
most likely asking which out of the three answers is one of her
favorite presents (Platinum Ring always beats out the other presents).
There are also some simple math questions. Count the number of circles
or X’s, give the number of how many circles are either before or after
the X, 2+3x7, things like that. If you passed third grade, it shouldn’t
be anything you can’t do. :P

The basic rules of the quiz game are simple. The game ends when one of
the players has answered three questions correctly. Ring in with the A
button to see the answers and select whichever one you believe is
correct. If you fail to answer or answer incorrectly, your character
will drop down, and you won’t be able to ring in for the next question.
If a player answers two questions incorrectly, he is dropped out of the
game. If you are the only player available to answer a question, you
can wait for the question to end and skip to the next one with no
penalty. The computer AI will ALWAYS ring in if it can, however. If
both players of a team are removed from the game, the other team wins
automatically. The best strategy for this game is to sit out the
questions you don’t know and go for the ones you can figure out. The
computer AI answers incorrectly often, so you still have a good chance
of winning.

MIKE DE PON

In this mini-game, the players are put into the four corners of a
karaoke room (no one has to actually be located in the Karaoke Corner
to play this game), and you have to fight it out for control of the
microphone. Run up to the player currently holding it. If you’re able
to make contact with him, you’ll bounce back with the microphone in
your possession. Then your rivals will start chasing you to get the
microphone back. Your team member will simply run in place until the
opposing team gets the microphone. If your rivals touch you, they’ll
steal it from you. When you have the microphone, quickly tap the A
button to sing into it. An oval of your color will appear by your
character name for each part of the song you sing. The first team to
have a player sing the entire song (i.e. reach the required number of
ovals) will win the game.

Essentially, it’s just a game of keep-away. I find if you run around in
a circle you can usually keep a hold of the microphone for the entire
length of the song. The game has one fatal programming flaw, though.
Since the team members have two very simple artificial intelligence
programs, run after the rival or stay in place, it’s possible for your
opponent’s team member, or even your own team member, to actually pin
you down. If the opposing team has the microphone while this happens...
you’re screwed. You got no hope of winning. Despite that, this is
usually the easiest mini-game to win, so I welcome a challenge to it.

2 DOUTTE PON

This paintball game is the most complex of the four mini-games and, in
my opinion, the most fun. The goal is simple. Shoot down your rivals
with the A button. Each player can withstand one shot but loses if shot
twice. The first team to eliminate the other team wins. You play from
the first person perspective in a tiny fully 3D square battle arena
(like a super tiny version of the Mario Kart 64 arenas). There’s a
brick wall square in the center of the arena and four L-shaped walls
surrounding it. You can use the walls to hide behind, and strafe around
the corners with the Z and R buttons for a sneaky attack.

Generally, the best strategy is to pay no never mind to whom you’re
shooting. If you keep a close eye on the map of the arena in the center
of the screen and just Rambo it by shooting anything that moves, you
should be able to eliminate everyone without getting hit yourself a
single time.

DATE DE PUNCH

This game differs from the others in that it’s just one guy versus
three. It also only randomly occurs during dates. In the game, the
character and his date are in a half-circle located in the top center
of the playing field. Below them is a large U shape with three circle
representing the other three characters. Once the game begins, the
three characters move their circles around on the U shape, and
periodically a little dude in camouflage will pop out of the circle.
All the little dudes will try to bum rush the other character’s date.
Some come from off the edges of the screen too. His only way of fending
them off is a giant floating hammer. O_o Press A to swing the hammer
and take out some of the little dudes.

If the character in the half circle can keep the little dudes away for
thirty seconds, he’ll win, but if one of the guys gets in the half
circle, the game ends. If the character on the date wins, the girl will
be proud of him, and her Love Love Points for him will go up three
rows. If he loses, however, the results will vary depending on how much
she likes the guy. If she doesn’t care for him much, she’ll be
disappointed in him, and her love for him will go down. If she likes
him a lot, though, he’ll get some pity love points (one row).

After fifteen seconds have passed in the game, each girl will help out
in her own way. Their methods are as follows:

Ayumi Shirai – makes the little dudes super tiny and slow for 5 seconds
Natsuki Itoh – freezes all the little dudes on screen for 5 seconds
Hana Tsudzuki – the circles disappear for 5 seconds
Makoto Minagawa – makes the hammer twice its size for 5 seconds
Kiiro Amami – kills all the little dudes currently on screen
Shizuku Morimura – takes 10 seconds off the clock (best one, IMO)
Meifa Lee – creates her own AI controlled hammer

PRESENTS SUPER CATALOGUE
*******************************************

Each girl in the game (with the exception of Kiiro) has three presents
that make her really happy if she receives. Any present works okay and
will make the girl’s level of love for you go up three rows of hearts,
but if you wait till AFTER she mentions one of the three, she’ll be
very pleased that you got her what she wanted. Then her level of love
for you will go up five rows of hearts. Non-presents can be given as
gifts, such as item cards, but they are only good for one row of
hearts. DON’T give back a present that a girl gave you. That basically
tells her that you don’t want it or her. You’ll lose several rows of
hearts, and you more or less permanently screw yourself over as far as
that chick goes. There is only one of each present in the game, so if
you snooze, you lose. All of the presents are located in Fashion and
CD&BOOK. It is possible to steal a present from another character
before they give it away, though. Here’s the list of all the presents
in the game and their yen prices:

feelings for chosen character.

Love Love Card (¥3500) – Increases the Love Love Points of a girl of
your choice whom you’re acquainted with by five rows.

Tenshi (Angel) Panda Card (¥4000) – After a character completes his
actions, one girl out of all the girls the chosen character has been
acquainted with will be randomly selected, and her Love Love Points for
him will go up by four rows. This lasts for three turns.

Akuma (Devil) Panda Card (¥4000) – After a character completes his
actions, one girl out of all the girls the chosen character has been
acquainted with will be randomly selected, and her Love Love Points for
him will go down by four rows. This lasts for three turns.

up a date like normal with a girl, but instead of selecting a location,

five rows of hearts for the guy. You can only go to the beach in the
morning. Only one of this card is available in each play through of the

before they can use it. >)

Jinja (Shinto Shrine) Date Card (¥5000) – After acquiring this card,
try to set up a date like normal with a girl, but instead of selecting
a location, choose the Jinja Date Card. This invites the girl to the
Shinto shrine where a special event will result, and afterwards, the
girl’s love will go up five rows of hearts for the guy. You can only go
to the Shinto shrine in the evening. Only one of this card is available
in each play through of the game, so buy it before the opponents can!
Or just steal it from them before they can use it. >)

BENRI (USEFUL) GROUP:

Al Card (¥1500) – Calls forth Alfonso... from the depths of hell? O_o?
Okay, maybe not. But he does pop outta nowhere. This card has many
uses. You can uses it when the Hose Beast is on your tail, and Alfonso
will act smitten with you. Reika will assume you’re gay and leave. O_o
If you use it at any other time, Alfonso will show up and offer advice
or a present (another card).

Pankichi Card (¥500) – Selects one of the two Panda Cards (Tenshi or
Akuma) at random to affect a random character. Use at your own risk...

Sasou (Invite) Card (¥1500) – Allows you to call up a girl whom you’re
acquainted with on the cell phone regardless of your location, so you
can ask her out on a date.

Kaoru Card (¥500) – Call up Kaoru the Café Liquid Master from any
location to find out where one girl will be during the next turn.

Bait Card (¥1000) – Random brings up one the game’s “bait” characters
(ie the family, students, Thief Cat, etc.). Can work for or against
your benefit depending on how it results...

Present Card (¥500) – If you possess this card AND another item (best
if it’s an actual present), you can use the Present Card to give a girl
whom you’re acquainted with a present without actually having to meet
up with her.

Name Kae (Change) Card (¥100) – Change the name of an opponent in order
to, well... annoy them, I guess. Only really fun if you’re playing
against a real human opponent. Makes sense that it’s only 100 yen
considering it’s just for laughs and giggles.

Battle Hisshou (Certain Victory) Card (¥2000) – Name says it all. If
someone challenges you to a battle while you possess this card, you’ll
automatically win.

Hanekaeshi (Rebound) Card (¥2000) – This card protects you from the
actions of rivals. If someone tries to use a negative card on you while
you possess this card, it won’t take effect. However, it’s got a BIG
downside in that the same thing happens if you attempt to use a
positive card on yourself.

MAP GROUP:

Mahha (Mach) Card (¥500) – Makes you or someone else go super fast for
three turns. The character has no stars during the three turns, so
braking and dashing on the town map isn’t possible. Can be negative or
positive depending on the situation.

Slow Card (¥500) – Makes you or someone else go really slow for three
turns. The character has no stars during the three turns, so braking
and dashing on the town map isn’t possible. Can be negative or positive
depending on the situation.

BOUGAI (HINDRANCE) GROUP:

Geri (Diarrhea?) Card (¥500) – Riiight... When I looked up this word, I
expected the meaning to have some negative connotation, but...
diarrhea? My disbelief is keeping me from guaranteeing that the
translation is correct. Anyway, when a character has this card used on
him, his next turn will be ruined. Once the character reaches whatever
location he chooses, he’ll be sad, and his turn will immediately end.
Because he has diarrhea? Maybe. :P

Tokkae Card (¥800) – I believe this card makes a random rival’s item
disappear. Not too sure, though. If anybody finds out otherwise, let me
know.

Date Bougai (Disturbance) Card (¥1000) – The character that uses this
card can select any of the other three opponents who have dates
arranged, and then select a date to cancel.

Wadai Toru (Topic Stealing) Card (¥1500) – This card can be used to
steal a Memory-unlocking Topic from any rival who possesses one.

Mochimono Toru (One’s Property Stealing) Card (¥1500) – The character
who uses this card can steal an item of his choosing from any rival.

Battle Card (¥500) – The card can be used to start a battle with any
rival. Simple as that.

MEMORIES
*******************************************

For me, collecting the Memories in Getter Love is main part of the
game, the meat and potatoes if you will. While beating the normal story
mode may be a bit challenging at first, once you get it down, then what
do you do? You could do it again, but it won’t take very long. It would
just be more of the same, anyway. That’s where the Memories come in.
Manipulating the girls and game into getting exactly what Memory you
need is what makes the game so fun. It requires a different strategy
each time, so it adds a lot of depth to the game. Also, there are A LOT
to get. It’ll definitely keep you busy for a long time. After the
countless hours I’ve put in the game, I still don’t have them all, and
some I haven’t even figured out how to get.

There are two main groups of Memories in Getter Love, all of which are
unlocked ONLY in the single-player normal mode. The first group
contains fifty, and they’re just dialogue sequences. Nothing new to see
unless you are competent enough in Japanese to understand the short
little conversations. The other group is for pictures, and it’s divided
up into special events images and ending sequences. Each girl has five
pictures and four endings, with the exception of Reika who only has one
of each. It’s always in the order:

1. Event you have to run into the girl at a specific time and place
2. Event you can get on a date at any time
3. Event at the girl’s house
4. Event at the Beach
5. Event at the Shinto shrine
6. Endings
  1. Girigiri (Just Barely) Ending
  2. Maamaa (So-so) Ending
  3. Sukisuki (Like Like) Ending
  4. Love Love Ending

The first and third special events are usually the hardest to get,
while the other three can be gotten pretty easily if you know how. The
endings are obviously determined by just how much the girls like you at
the time you beat the game. The first two are almost exactly the same,
as are the second two. The Love Love Ending is very difficult to get
since the girl has to profess her love to YOU rather than the normal
reverse situation.

Here are the lists of all the Memories, and some information about the
key ones (may contain spoilers):

SPECIAL EVENT MEMORIES -

Ayumi Shirai:

1. “Dokidoki Yadori” (Heart Beating While Taking Shelter) – It starts
to rain while Ayumi is on the Ground, so she takes shelter. She still
gets soaked, though, so she’s shaking her wet tank top... Kind of an
awkward moment for the male character. A little tiny bit of Ayumi’s
cleavage is viewable. O_o

2. “Ayumi on Stage!” – Ayumi is singing her heart out at the Karaoke
Corner. The way she’s holding the microphone is a little questionable.

3. Ayumi’s special event at her home.

4. “Suu Suu Munyamunya” (Breathing and Talking in Sleep) – Ayumi falls
asleep while sunbathing at the beach in her bikini. Another somewhat
innuendo-ish picture... That blue eye shadow is WAY too much also.

5. “Taamayaa!” – Decked out in her kimono and her haired tied up, Ayumi
admires the fireworks at the Shinto shrine celebration. She’s also
fanning herself with a panda fan. :)

6. Ayumi’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending - A disturbing picture of Ayumi smiling at the
     Ground in her school clothes.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Ayumi kinda... squeezes her chest together, and
     looks really happy. O_o
  4. Love Love Ending

Natsuki Itoh:

1. Natsuki looking kind of freaky while vacuuming one of the player’s
homes. Check out the Nintendo 64 on the floor. :)

2. “Docchi Gaii Kana?” (Which Outer Garment, I Wonder?) – The title
says it all. Natsuki waits for your opinion on which shirt she should
buy at the Fashion store.

3. “Koraa! Masao!” (Hey! Masao!) - Natsuki’s irritating little brother
Masao comes in her room waving an embarrassing photograph around.
Furious yet blushing Natsuki grabs a broom threateningly while she
yells at him.

4. “Kyaa! Shachi Shachi!” (Eek! Orca Orca!) – Natsuki’s playing in the
water with what I believe is a giant killer whale water toy. Maybe it’s
real? This picture is a total butt shot. O_o

5. I swear, Natsuki has some of the strangest special event pictures.
In this one, she appears to have gone into some haunted house at the
Shinto shrine, and she’s absolutely terrified of the people in the
demon costumes.

6. Natsuki’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending - With a worried look on her face, Natsuki fixes
her hair as she walks to school.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Natsuki proudly holds out a huge feast of a
lunch she prepared for you with little squids on sticks, a large
portion of rice with a heart design on it, and other Japanese
     foods.
  4. Love Love Ending – Same as above except in this ending Natsuki is
holding a yellow cloth. It appears to be a scarf or a blanket.

Hana Tsudzuki:

1. “Flea Ma. de Irassha~i!” (Welcome to the Flea Market!) – With used
clothes, hand-made jewelry, and the required Panda figure surrounding
her, Hana welcomes you to the Flea Market with a big stoned grin.

2. “Meccha Shiawase [heart]” (Ridiculous Happiness) – Hana stuffs her
face with her Panda Burger and Shake in a crazed munchies euphoria.

3. Hana’s special event at her home.

4. “Na~ Kukkiri Yaro~?” – While squinting from the bright sun at the
beach, Hana pulls down her tank top a little to show off how tanned she
is.

5. Probably the only attractive picture of Hana. Maybe no coincidence
that you can’t see half her face? Hana, holding back the sleeves of her
kimono, shows that she’s a pro at the shooting game at the Shinto
shrine.

6. Hana’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending - Ugh. Hana is bawling at the front of the class
because she did so poorly on her test.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Double ugh. Hana is so in love that she starts
crying and snot comes out of her nose.
  4. Love Love Ending

Makoto Minagawa:

1. Makoto waits on a player’s doorstep in the evening for him to arrive
home.

2. Not a very well drawn picture of Makoto. She’s petting her goofy
looking calico cat while the sun sets on the park.

3. Another not so flattering picture of Makoto. Upon arriving at
Makoto’s home, she whoops out her camera, and with a smile, asks if she
may take a picture. I still don’t get why photography is her favorite
hobby yet the disposable camera isn’t one of her favorite gifts. O_o

4. Makoto giggles as she prances around the beach barefoot, and the
wind whips through her hair.

5. This one’s of Makoto kneeling down in her kimono at the Shinto
shrine in order to play with a sparkler.

6. Makoto’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending – Makoto looking VERY sexy sitting at her desk in
school. She looks so much better with braids and glasses.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Makoto talks about how she feels as she flips
     her hair.
  4. Love Love Ending – Same as above.

Kiiro Amami:

1. “...Kore...” (...This...) – In the CD&BOOK store, Kiiro picked out
what she wanted, so she’s handing over a wallet.

2. “Shooting Girl” – In a total me moment, Kiiro is expressionless as
she’s fixated on the arcade space shooter she’s playing at the Game
Corner.

3. Showing off her hobby at her home, Kiiro gets covered in mud as she
works at her pottery wheel. She kind of looks like a Native American as
she does it. :)

4. Leave it to Kiiro to be the only girl to not have a freaky or
gratuitous beach scene. She’s just sitting on the beach with a cute
hint of a smile working on a sandcastle. It’s such a sweet and innocent
looking picture. One of my favorites. I will admit that the shapes of
the towers on the sandcastle are a bit uh... peculiar, though...

5. “...Anko...” (...Red Bean Jam...) – At the Shinto shrine, Kiiro
picks up a snack. It’s shaped like a fish and filled with red bean jam.
O_o It’s yet another cute child-like moment with Kiiro. She gets little
bits of the jam all around her mouth. Not very attractive, but it does
make Kiiro all the more charming. And you gotta love that panda hat. :)

6. Kiiro’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending – Kiiro looking absolutely gorgeous as she stands
in the courtyard of the school.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above. (But thankfully a bit longer.)
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Kiiro shyly looks away as she blushes and tries
to express how she feels. Then you see the greatest smile ever.
  4. Love Love Ending

Shizuku Morimura:

1. “Pero Tonaka Yoshi” (Pero Behaving Well in Public) – Shizuku brings
her dog Pero to Itoh Mart, and she kneels down to pat him on the head
for being good.

2. “Mukashimukashi Arutokoroni...” (Once Upon a Time...) – Shizuku
volunteers to read for a hyper little girl at the library. And what a
surprise, the page they’re on has the panda on it. :P

3. When you visit Shizuku’s home, she appears to feel ill all of the
sudden, so you help her get in bed and tuck her in tight. She has a
look of sincere appreciation on her face.

4. At the beach, Shizuku sits at a table under the shade of an umbrella
eating flavored shaved ice. She happily offers a big scoop on the spoon
to you.

5. Things aren’t going so well for Shizuku at the Shinto shrine when
the strap of her sandal snaps apart.

6. Shizuku’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending – Shizuku, looking like an effeminate boy, sits
on the grass at school to eat her lunch of finger sandwiches.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – While Pero gives her a big lick on the face,
Shizuku tells you how much she likes you.
  4. Love Love Ending – Same as above except Shizuku’s eyes well up
     with tears.

Meifa Lee:

1. “Meifa’s Magnum Kick!” – Meifa shows off her stuff with an action
shot of her doing a karate kick at the Game Corner. Check out the
terrified guy in the background. :P

2. With a sassy wink, Meifa easily and gracefully carries two huge
platters of Chinese food to a table at Hao Hao.

3. While at her home, Meifa gets a bit nostalgic, so she pulls out an
old black and white photograph of herself as a little girl
participating in a huge martial arts competition with a massive
audience.

4. Yet another martial arts action shot. At the beach Meifa
participates in some competition in which she has to be blindfolded and
do a karate chop through a whole watermelon. O_o

5. Always the competitive type, Meifa participates in a competition at
the Shinto shrine and wins! She holds a huge trophy and A LOT of cash
in one hand and does a “V” for victory with the other.

6. Meifa’s endings:

  1. Girigiri Ending – Another one of my favorite endings. Meifa is
looking quite nice in her pigtails and short little tie. The way
she points with an utter look of annoyance on her face is rather
     charming too.
  2. Maamaa Ending – Same as above.
  3. Sukisuki Ending – Meifa looks TOO happy in this ending...
  4. Love Love Ending

Reika Kongouji:

1. Gah! Super close-up of Reika giving you a big smooch! I sure hope
that’s just the shadow in her nostrils and not nose hair... Those lips
are demonic...

2. Reika’s ending.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*******************************************

Q: Where can I get the... uh... hehehehe... pictures?
A: If you’ve read any of this FAQ, you should know by now that the game
is NOT hentai. Nintendo has rules against that type of content
appearing on their systems. The only hentai games to appear on their
systems are unlicensed, and Getter Love, being a Hudson game, is most
certainly licensed by Nintendo. Anyway, if you’d still like to see
pictures from the game, go to Hudson’s official Getter Love site:
http://www.webbee.net/gamedb/softinfo/getterlove/index.html
Click on the red link with a spinning panda head next to it (o_O) to
get to the Gallery. Be warned that you can see ALL of the special event
and ending pictures there, so it could be considered a spoiler.

Q: Should I buy this game? What’s Getter Love like?
A: I’ve written a lengthy review on the game that can be found on
GameFAQs (and it will appear on my site with pictures in the future),
but I also recommend you just browse this FAQ a little. I think it
provides more than enough information to educate you on whether or not
it would be a good purchase. Since this game has not been dumped, there
is no ROM of it anywhere to try out before you buy.

Q: Where can I get this game?
A: I got mine from a great little online store located at
www.wolfgames.com. The store has gotten in at least two copies of the
game, so I wouldn’t be surprised if more pop up in the future. Of
course, you can always try eBay as well.

Q: Is there anything I need to play Getter Love?
A: Besides a modified Nintendo 64 (or Japanese console), you’ll need a
controller pak. It doesn’t matter if it’s Japanese or American. You’ll
need 18 pages of free data for each of the two save files you can have
in the game. The Memories and Rankings are saved directly to the
cartridge, so you don’t have to worry about those.

Q: What’s the Panda Love Unit?
A: Many things, I think. The Panda Love Unit is what the group of girls
are called in Getter Love, but I believe it’s also a code name for the
developers who made the game. It’s also the name of the group of women
who were cast to cosplay as the girls and sing for the Getter Love
album. O_o

Q: Any merchandise or other games related to Getter Love?
A: The only merchandise I know of is the album. You can see pictures of
the vocalists dressed up as the girls at the Getter Love official web
site (see the first question for the URL). It also provides all the
info you could possibly need if you desire to track the CD down. As far
as games go, there actually is another game with the Getter Love girls.
It’s called Typing of the Date (hehe), and it’s a Japanese-only
Dreamcast game. It appears that all the pictures were just rehashed
from Getter Love, but instead of the board game/love sim gameplay it’s
a typing game/love simulation. :P

CONTACTING ME
*******************************************

Since I don't know Japanese, some of my translations could possibly be
incorrect, but with the aid of Katakana and Hiragana charts, lots of
experience with import games, Hudson’s official Getter Love web site,
and other resources, I think I got almost everything right. If you feel
that a translation is incorrect or any other information for that
matter, let me know. Some translations come down to a matter of
opinion, though, so I won’t necessarily change something just because
you don’t like my translation.

I do not answer questions regarding when or if a ROM of Getter Love
will be dumped, nor will I provide any ROMs, emulator help, emulator
information within this FAQ, or ROM hacking codes. When and if there is
ever a fan translation of Getter Love, I will NOT change my FAQ to
match it. If you email me about doing such a thing, I will delete your
email, and if I’m not in a particularly good mood, you may get a not-
so-pleasant reply. ;) I will also not answer emails regarding if there
is, when there will be, or where you could find a translation patch. I
encourage all Getter Love players to go out and buy the game. :)

If you need help with Getter Love, or have any questions about it, feel free
to email me. Please don’t ask questions answered already in the FAQ, though.
If you have requests or submissions for this FAQ, I’d be happy to hear them.
If you just want to chat about Getter Love, feel free to send me mail.

THANKS TO...

Hudson for the creation and publication of this utterly insane game.
Their official Getter Love web site was very useful in the creation of
this guide as well.

Matt of www.wolfgames.com for selling me yet another fruity Nintendo 64
import. I’m like... the only person that buys his N64 stuff. O_o

Nintendo for licensing this game and for making N64 modification not
too hard (not as easy as SNES modification unfortunately, though).

GameFAQs for hosting this FAQ and all my other FAQs and reviews.

Andreas for not killing me after hearing the Getter Love music for the
100th hour. And because he has a cute poofy belly that’s fun to poke.
:) I love my little assmuffin. *goes to squeeze him*

tri-Ace because... they thought up the name Roger S. Huxley. Quite
possibly the coolest named character ever in a video game. Also, if it
weren’t for their Japanese-only RPGs, I probably never would have even
attempted playing Getter Love.

Myself because... I’m hotter than all the Getter Love chicks combined.
