  Release Date : 10 October 2002
  # of Cards   : 66
  Retail Price : $3.29 (a pack)
Description  : This first set of Animal Crossing e-Reader cards
were insanely popular among fans of the series. Players across
the country could take a break from collecting items in the game
and satisfy their collecting needs in real life! For the first
month or so after launch, Animal Crossing e-Reader cards were
still hard to find, most stores having sold out quickly. Packs

 V. PROMOS AND MISCELLANY
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Nintendo has been known to satisfy their hungry fans' appetites
with fun and new additions to their gaming experiences. Animal
Crossing e-Reader cards are no exception. As a result, Nintendo
has released promotional e-Reader cards to become well prized
treasures in the collections of Animal Crossing fans. Hopefully,
they will keep this up, and fans will have tons of interesting
new cards to add to their sets!

 CHECKLIST

[   ]  E-001  -  Animal Crossing Promo e-Reader Card ("K.K. Ska")

This card is included in the promo pack of e-Reader cards that
is packaged with the e-Reader peripheral. This pack also comes
with the Manhole-e Game & Watch game, and three cards from the
Pokémon-e: Expedition series. When this card is scanned in-game,
you receive a letter from K.K. Slider welcoming you to the world
of Animal Crossing e-Reader cards, as well as the aircheck for
"K.K. Ska." If you scan it through the e-Reader when it is not
connected to the GameCube, you will be given a passcode for a
Gold Stereo that you can redeem in-game.

[   ]  E-002  -  NES Link Promo Design Card

This card was included in the polybagged December 2002 issue
of Nintendo Power (#). This card, when scanned at the Tailor's,
loads a design of Link (from Legend of Zelda) holding a triforce.
This design can be applied to clothing, umbrellas, walls, and
floors. The card came attached to a cardstock square that has
information about how to scan it into the game.

[   ]  A-061 - Tom Nook, A-101 - Boots, and P-01 - Boy (1) / Relay A

While not exactly "promo" cards (ie. they are indentical to the
cards found in Series 2 packs, and have no different numbering),
these cards were promotional items given to certain retailers
a week or so before the release of Series 2. Like 'Air Hockey',
these cards were given to select retailers to be given away in
promotion (in this case, for the soon-to-be released Series 2
Animal Crossing cards). Boxes containing a few hundred cards
were delivered to most GameStop (Babbage's) stores, where you
will be given a set of these three cards. Like I said, they're
not anything special.. but free cards is definitely worth note!

 VI. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

 1. What's an e-Reader, and what does it have to do with Animal Crossing?

The e-Reader is a peripheral that was released by Nintendo
on September 16, 2002. The device allows for cards containing
patented dot-code technology to be scanned in, producing a
result (mini-games, information, etc). In Animal Crossing,
the cards store item data which, when scanned, sends your
character an in-game letter with an item enclosed (furniture,
or even an NES game!) For a detailed guide on e-Reader use, see:
       http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/file/animal_crossing_ereader.txt

 2. What items can I get by scanning Animal Crossing e-Reader cards?

There are three different ways to get three different items
by scanning Animal Crossing e-Reader cards. They are:
          - Sending passcode printed on card to any villager
          - Sending passcode printed on card to pictured villager (character)
          - Scanning card through e-Reader at Post Office

When you send the passcode to any villager in your town
(enclosed in a letter, of course), you almost always
receive a reply in a few days, with a piece of furniture
       attached!

If you sent the code to the villager who was
pictured on the front of the card, if you receive a
reply, it will have an NES game attached! No word yet
on whether or not you can get the more rare NES games
this way (but as of now, I highly doubt it).

If you scan a card through the e-Reader (after loading
the program from the Post Office or Tailor Shop), your
character will immediately receive a letter from the
pictured villager, with a piece of furniture attached.

 3. What about all these other cards (Town Tune, Design, etc.)?

In addition to the Character cards featured in every
Series, Nintendo includes cards that yield different
       results when scanned.

       Card Type: Town Tune
       Found In : Series 1, Series 2, Series 3
Image    : K.K. Slider song title and picture.
Scanned  : @ Town Tune Board (near Post Office)
Result   : Loads Tune found on card into game.
                  Replaces your current Town Tune.

       Card Type: Design
       Found In : Series 1, Series 2, Series 3
Image    : Mabel and Sable showcasing a design.
Scanned  : @ Tailor Shop (speak to Mabel)
Result   : Loads design found on card into game.
Replaces one of your current designs.

       Card Type: Special/Mini-Game
       Found In : Series 2, Series 3
Image    : Character (Boy or Girl)
Scanned  : e-Reader (not connected to GCN)
Result   : Loads a mini-game onto your GameBoy Advance.
An e-Reader application in which you scan
multiple Character cards and have them
                  participate in a mini-game.

       Card Type: Sibling
       Found In : Series 2, Series 3
Image    : Two special characters that are siblings.
       Scanned  : @ Post Office (regular e-card)
Result   : There's no real difference other than the
fact that there's two codes on this card.
You get a different in-game item depending
on if the card is scanned, or the password
is mailed to a villager, and depending on
                  which passcode is used.

 4. Where can I purchase Animal Crossing e-Reader cards?

Animal Crossing e-Reader cards can be found at:
       EBWorld   (http://www.ebworld.com)      $2.99 (a pack)
       KBToys    (http://www.kbtoys.com)       $2.99 (a pack)
       GameStop  (http://www.gamestop.com)     $2.99 (a pack)
       Wal-Mart  (http://www.walmart.com)      $3.29 (a pack)
       CompUSA   (http://www.compusa.com)      $3.99 (a pack)
       Toys'R'Us (http://www.toysrus.com)      $4.99 (a pack)
       Best Buy  (http://www.bestbuy.com)      $4.99 (a pack)

These prices may not be accurate, these are to the best of
my memory. Basically, your best bet is purchasing cards
(if possible) at EBWorld (you can easily order them online
with a credit card), or just check in at your local video
       game store.

If anyone has any contributions to this list (major chain
stores only, please) feel free to e-mail me with the store
name, website (if applicable), and retail price. Thanks!

 5. I need ____ to complete my set! How can I get it!?

Trade, trade, trade! I know it's hard not to be unsure
and skeptical about trading items across the web, but
you'll find that most people around here are trustworthy!
Trading via snail mail has been one of the most fun
and enjoyable things about collecting Animal Crossing
e-Reader cards. You can look (or post) offers on the
GameFAQs Animal Crossing e-Reader message board:

       http://s2.cgi.gamefaqs.com/boards/gentopic.asp?board=34366

If you're all about spending extra money, however, you
can always check eBay (http://www,ebay.com) and see which
cards you can find for a good price.

 6. When will ____ be released? She/he's my favorite character!

Release dates and character lists for upcoming Animal Crossing
card sets are slowly becoming available. Besides this FAQ,
another good source is Nintendo's site (http://www.nintendo.com)
since it is updated more frequently to their site dedicated
       primarily to the e-Reader (http://www.nintendo-e-reader.com).
Also, check latest issues of Nintendo Power magazine. I will
be updating this FAQ as much as possible with new information
       as it comes.

 7. How can I safely store my cards?

Animal Crossing e-Reader cards are made of the same standard
cardstock as most other trading cards (such as Pokémon, Magic,
etc.) and are the same size. You can easily store your Animal
Crossing cards in any assortment of card pages, boxes, and
sleeves. I, personally, keep my cards secure inside card pages
in a nice, hard plastic binder. It also wouldn't hurt to first
put the card in a thin plastic card sleeve, then slip that
inside the card pages. You can purchase such items at gaming
and sports card stores, such as:

       GamesandCards.com (http://www.gamesandcards.com)
-> Click on "Supplies and Accessories"

I recommend the 'Ultra Pro Nine Pocket Platinum Series Pages',
out of their selection. You can purchase 100 pages for $14.99,
or look around in your area and see if you can find less pages,
cheaper. Most gaming/sports card stores sell pages individually
for anywhere from .10 to .25 (average) each.

I'd also like to thank everyone I've traded e-Reader cards with
over the past couple of months. Getting mail has never been so

I'd also like to thank Wal-Mart, for always having neat stuff

Oh well. I still love thee, Wal-Mart.

I can't forget to thank my annoying.. er.. loving boyfriend,
Richard, for putting up with my Animal Crossing addiction, and
