Side Pocket is a billiards game for the Game Boy. It is a relatively simple
game, with two game modes to choose from. I personally found the controls to
be a bit clunky, especially when aiming your shots. Luckily it is not that
deep of a game with the limited gameplay options, so you just have to deal
with the controls I suppose. Or you can skip this game altogether since it
really is not worth it, in my honest opinion.

==========
Game Modes
==========
9-Ball: Play a game of 9-ball pool by yourself. The point of this game is to
hit each ball, numbered 1-9, into the pockets in order (hit #1, then
#2, and so on).
Pocket: This is the "main" gameplay mode, you can say. You play rounds of
pool by yourself, using a limited number of shots while trying to
clear the table and improve your ranking, determined by your
performance. More on this below.
===========
Pocket Mode
===========
In Pocket mode, you will see there are four rankings you can attain:
Rank Score
---- -----
World 7000
State 5000
City 4000
Club 3000
You start off in Club class, and as you earn points by clearing tables, you
move up. At the start of each round, there may be a certain number of balls
racked on the table for you to play with. In the top-left area, there is a
meter that shows how many shots you can make. If you run out, the game is
over. For each ball you make in, you will get an extra shot.
Periodically, you will see a star above one of the pockets. Make a ball into
that pocket to gain two extra shots! You don't need to sink the balls in any
particular order, but it gives you more points if you do it in numerical
order ala 9-Ball. You also get extra points at the end if you sink balls in
two or more consecutive shots.
When you clear a table, you will be given points depending upon your
performance. If you don't have enough points to proceed to the next rank, you
can play another round, but you have the same amount of shots remaining as
you had when you made the final shot. If you scored enough points, you will
go to a bonus round where you can make a single shot into the unblocked hole
for a chance at earning an extra bonus shot.

General Gameplay
================
If you are playing this game, chances are you are familiar with billiards and
the rules of the game. Basically, you play on a table with six holes
(pockets): four in the corners and two in the middle of the long sides. The
balls you hit are numbered and in different shades, where the ball you hit
with the stick is the white cue ball. You hit the cue ball into the other
balls in an attempt to sink the balls into the pockets. The game is complete
when all balls except for the cue are sunk.
You can use the Control Pad to move the cue stick around. A flashing line
will show the direction you are aiming, as well as its reflection off the
side of the table. When you are satisfied with your aim, press A and the
power meter will start to fill. The farther to the right the meter is filled,
the more powerful your shot will be. For obstructed shots, you can bounce the
cue ball off the sides at an angle to hit the ball you want. It takes a bit
of practice to get it right however, but just remember that billiards is all
about the angles.
If you don't touch any ball during your shot, you will have committed a Foul
and the other player can move the cue ball anywhere on the table they want.
If you hit a ball and it does not go in, it's considered Safe and play
continues from where the cue stops. If the cue ball is sunk, the next player
can place it where they want during the next turn.
