1. Introduction
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demon Stalkers has been called everything from simply a Gauntlet clone to a
revolutionary dungeon game with included editor. However, the 100 levels the
game provides can be a daunting challenge to even the best players. So I
present this document to aid all hunters of Calvrak in their quest. Keep in
mind that this is only for the original Commodore 64 version, not the DOS
version that some may have played(see Notes Of Interest). Also, this
walkthrough is only for the original 99 levels of the Marble Vaults(the 100th
level can never be changed, even with an editor).
Your objective in Demon Stalkers is to find your way through the 99 levels of
the Marble Vaults and defeat the demon, Calvrak. Calvrak is responsible for the
poisoning and destruction of your homelands. A group of adventurers were sent
earlier, but they haven't returned and are assumed dead. All hopes rest on
you! Good luck, Demon Stalkers!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Controls
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Main Menu offers these options :
F1 : Start a one-player game with 7,000 Health.
F3 : Start a two-player game with both players at 5,000 Health.
F5 : Enter the Editor to make your own levels or change the old ones.
F7 : Restore an old saved game.
The controls of your "Stalker" are as follows :
Move joystick : Moves your character in the same direction as the joystick.
Fire Button : Fires your crossbow(hold button for rapid fire).
Commodore Key : Activates a Death Spell for Player 1(if you have one).
Cursor Up/Down key : Activates a Death Spell for Player 2(if you have one)
S key : Pauses the game and takes you to the pause menu.
In the Pause Menu, your options are as follows :
F1 : Surrender. This causes all of the locked doors in the level to become
unlocked and all of your Relic levels to be dropped by one. Use this in case
you run out of keys and cannot reach the exit. Using this a second(and
consecutive times) in the same level time completely resets the level, places
you at the start and drops all of your Relic levels by one again. The only
catch is that if you have a Slow Death Curse in effect, it will still be in
effect afterwards.
F3 : Abort Game. Use this to quit play and return to the Main Menu.
F5 : Save Game. Saves the current level you are on. The game will treat it as
though you just entered the level when you restore your save.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Items/Artifacts
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a list of all the good(and bad) stuff you can find on your journey :
Food :
The pitcher of liquid with the fruit beside it is usually a sign of a health
boost. The values for the pick-ups are as follows :
Bread and Water : +100 Health
Elf Cakes : +400 Health
Banquet : +1,000 Health
Poison : -800 Health
Sadly, there is no way to distinguish which food is which until you pick it
up. Sometimes you'll be given a warning, but more often than not, you'll just
have to luck out on what you get. Also, your Health limit is 65,535 points.
Any good food you pick up at that point will just be wasted.
Key :
Sets up a beacon that attracts the great wanderer of the 12th planet....Okay,
okay. What this yellow object really does is opens a door or locked chest. Did
anyone really think differently?
Scrolls :
There are several different Scroll types in the Marble Vaults.
Text : You'll find these more often than others. They usually give some sort
of message to hint, mislead, or just give background to the player.
Death Spell : The only Scroll without immediate effects. Pick one up and a
skull will appear in your inventory. You may then use the Death Spell whenever
you wish. It works like a smart bomb, damaging(or even killing) all enemies
and Vortexes in sight. Also, the stronger your Magic Stat(see Relics), the
more powerful the blast...err, spell.
Score Bonus : The seemingly most useless Scroll. This Scroll doubles the point
value of everything(pick-ups, monsters, etc.) for 30 seconds. But since high
scores are only good for bragging rights in this game, it's seems like a
waste. However, I recently discovered something the manual left out : Food
values are also doubled during that period! That means 3 Banquets would be
worth 6,000 Health rather than 3,000 while it is in effect.
Open All Doors : This has the same effect as the Surrender command in the
pause menu, without the nasty side effect of draining all of your Relic levels
by one.
Slow Death Curse : The bad Scroll of the bunch. Picking up one of these will
cause your health to tick down at a steady rate(about 26 points per second).
It even continues ticking if you die and are resurrected with a Staff Of Life.
The only way to stop the curse is to leave the current level. It doesn't
matter whether you go up or down.
Once again, there is no way to distinguish the difference between a good
Scroll and a bad one. So just cross your fingers and hope for the best.
Relics :
These wondrous items will boost your abilities to make your quest a little
easier. They are as follows :
Warrior's Belt : Each of these red round objects you pick up increases the
damage you cause per shot.
Helm Of Defense : For every gray Helm you collect, the damage inflicted by
monsters is decreased further.
Magician's Wand : For every one you collect, it increases the damage inflicted
by your Death Spells.
There is a limit to how many you can collect before you aren't allowed to pick
up any more. I don't know the exact count, but it is usually two "units" after
you collect a Relic that makes the picture above that stat disappear.
Amulets :
These magical objects have a variety of effects....as follows :
Wall Walking : These will allow you to walk through walls as if they were
double one-way doors....In other words, you will only be walk through them if
there is nothing blocking your path on the other side. Wall Walking Amulets
are always yellow. While in effect, a picture of a brick wall will appear next
to your Relic levels.
Invisibility : These will make you completely invisible to all monsters. This
will cause all the monsters to wander around confused. They can still hurt
you, however. The color of all Invisibility Amulets is Cyan. While in effect,
an empty circle will appear next to your Relic levels. Also, your character
will turn into a stripped shade of his color(green for player 1 and blue for
player 2).
Extra Speed : These Amulets gives you a severe speed boost(duh)....about two
or three times your normal walking speed! The color of all Extra Speed Amulets
is White. While in effect, a lightning bolt will appear next to your Relic
stats.
Paralysis : These Amulets will freeze you in place temporarily, preventing you
from either moving or shooting. While paralyzed, you can still be harmed by
any enemies in the area. However, any items you have will still be in effect.
So if you still have an Invisibility Amulet on when you were paralyzed, the
monsters will still wander around confused. Also, you can still use Death
Spells. Sadly, the color of a Paralysis Amulet can be the color of the other
three Amulets(Yellow, White and Cyan), so there is no way to tell which is
which. While paralyzed, your character will become a stripped shade of dark
gray.
All Amulets last about thirty seconds(though Paralysis seems to last a shorter
amount of time), so make the most of them. Also, if an Elemental
Dervish(see Monsters) touches you, it will "drain" the Amulet's power at an
extreme rate!
Bells :
These magical items cause a wide variety of effects...:
Time Stop : My favorite:). Freezes all monsters and vortexes. This is the
perfect way to clear a large band of foes, or just buy some time for a quick
escape.
Confuse Monsters : Makes all enemies wander around as if you had an
Invisibility Amulet. The only difference is that this power cannot be taken
away by Dervishes.
Summon Monsters : This Bell causes all monsters to run directly towards it.
This also means that monsters will "push" against walls to reach the Bell.
Scare Monsters : Causes all enemies to run away from the players. If they are
against walls, they may still "jump" off of them and accidentally hit you.
Enrage Monsters : These Bells cause monsters to move at double to triple
their normal speeds! This also means they will hit a lot more should they get
close. My suggestion is to run and hide if you hit one....
All Bells ring for 40 seconds after you hit them, and you can't hit another
Bell until the first one has stopped. Unlike most items, you can use Bells
over and over again until you get tired of running back to reactivate them.
To help out, the Bell acts as your timer. On each second, the Bell gongs once.
So after forty gongs are heard, the Bell stops ringing.
Chests :
Nothing special about these. They can contain any item in the game except for
Bells, of course. Also, several chests are locked and require a key to open.
There is no way to tell if a chest is locked before you touch it, nor can you
tell what is inside before you open one.
Still, can anyone tell me the point of why the designers made several chests
with keys inside locked?:)
The following two item types can be found in chests only :
Gold And Jewels :
A typical chest-filler. Worth only a random amount of points even if Score
Bonus is in effect, so don't kill yourself over them.
Artifacts :
These are your main treasure goal! These give your character a much needed
boost to his Relic levels. They also boost your abilities further during the
final battle. However, since you can only find them in chests, they can be
tricky to find unless you know where to look. They are as follows :
Sword Of Slaying : Shows up as a gray sword in your inventory when you find
one. It increases your minimum and current Relic Level for your attack power
by two each. It also further increases the amount of damage you do during the
final battle.
Magical Shield : Shows up as a blue shield in your inventory. It increases
your minimum and current Relic Level for your defense power by two each. It
also further decreases the damage you take during the final battle.
Ring Of Willpower : Shows up as a yellow ring in your inventory. It boosts
your minimum and current Relic Level for your magic power by two each. Also,
it prevents your joystick controls from being reversed when you are damaged in
the final battle.(You thought I was going to say it boosted your magic for the
final battle, didn't you?:P)
Staff Of Life : Shows up as a red slash in your inventory. At first, this does
nothing for you. But should one player die while either is carrying a
Staff(doesn't matter who it is), that player will come back to life with
10,000 Health. Unfortunately, it is immediately discarded after one use and
you can only carry one Staff at a time. Should you die, you'll have to
scrounge for another....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Monsters
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Marble Vaults have a variety of nasty creatures against you. Keep in mind
that the health and speed of the monsters(even if they look identical) vary
from level to level. Also, the darker the monster, the more damage it deals
with each attack. Beware Dark Blue monsters! Another fact is that nearly all
monsters come out of "Vortexes"(they look like bubble clusters). If you shoot
a Vortex enough, it will blow up and stop making monsters. Lastly, if you
leave a level and come back for any reason, the single monsters you killed
will be regenerated while the Vortexes you destroyed will not. Now, here's
your creature feature :
Giant Rats : Pretty much harmless alone. In fact, when there are only one or
two, they generally run from you. When there are any more monsters around,
their confidence quickly boosts and they will start to come after you. Also,
they are the only monsters that don't come from a Vortex. Instead, they come
from indestructible metal grates. However, enemies can't step on grates(not
even the Rats), so you can use the grates as a sort of safe spot.
Snappers : A plant mutation. They won't attack unless you shoot one of them
first. Usually, it's wiser to leave them be unless they are blocking your
path. If so, try to eliminate their Vortexes first. Also, you can use Death
Spells to kill Snappers without them waking up.
Elemental Dervishes : Nasty things. Dervishes will try to rush up to you and
steal your items. They'll first rob you of your Death Spells, then start
draining you of your keys. If you see a group of Dervish Vortexes, burn off
all your Death Spells!
Mad Mages : These are the only distance shooters. The trick to beating a Mage
is to stand up to him. He shoots fireballs far too rapidly to try dodging in
and out of walls in-between shots. Also, their fireballs "destroy" your
crossbow shots. By that I mean your shots cannot go through theirs...you may
have to engage them in close combat to ensure their deaths. Even worse, most
Mage Vortexes have a chance to randomly spawn "Fanatical Mad Mages" along with
the normal Mages. Fanatical Mad Mages have the same speed as the Mages that
are normally spawned from that Vortex. However, they cause and take a heck of
a lot more damage than normal Mages! The Fanatical ones are colored Black to
distinguish them from the others.
Ghosts : These guys can walk through walls. There's nothing else really
special about them. However....A Ghost Vortex behind a set of walls can prove
to be very annoying indeed....
Calvrak : The final boss! He waits for you at level 100. Read the Level
Walkthrough on how to beat him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. General Tips
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The key in ANY adventure is to save often. While saving every level might not
be wise in case you screw up, saving at least every fifth level is usually a
good rule of thumb for this game.
You may want to take that saving rule a little further. Make several copies of
the original 99 levels(the 100th can't be changed). Around every tenth level,
use one of the copies to save on. Label it with something like "Scenario
Disk - Level 10". That way, you can return to any level at any time should you
need to. Also, you'll have a back-up save just in case...
Yes, you do take damage if you walk into a Vortex for a while. However, while
you are just standing next to a Vortex, no monsters can appear on that side of
the Vortex. This can make it much easier to destroy them without being struck
back.
Save up your Death Spells until emergency areas. They often can help you clear
packed areas of enemies(or at least help clear a path for you to run past).
This is especially important in later levels when Vortexes and enemies often
block passages/one-way doors.
Kill all enemies BEFORE you activate/collect anything suspicious! That way, if
the Bell you rang turns out to be a Bell of Enrage Monsters, you'll be glad
you did. If you can't clear it out first, at least make sure you have a good
amount of health or a good escape route just in case.
While Dervishes can drain the power from any Amulets you are holding, they
can't steal anything while doing so. Think of it as a sort of "thief
protection bonus".
In two-player games, split the collection of items fairly. If you get the
first Staff Of Life, let the other player get the first Sword Of Slaying or
Magical Shield to compensate for not having a second life.
Kill dervishes on sight! They will steal your items the moment they get close
to you, starting with your Death Spells. Also, at the end of the level you
will be more likely to lose a Relic level.
Be careful with speedy enemies around Snappers. All it takes is one missed
shot to get you in a lot of trouble FAST!
Learn to move and shoot diagonally. It may seem trivial at first, but reaching
the items you like and destroying the Vortexes you hate will gradually become
tougher without mastering this skill.
Many players will suggest making each player a "specialist" in a two-player
game, that is to say making one player pick up all of the Belts and Helms
while the other player picks up all of the Wands and Death Spells. While it
does have a couple of advantages, the loss of fire-power with one player and
the odds of that same player picking up all of the Slow Death Curses can
quickly outweighs the advantages. I suggest simply balancing the Relics as
best you can.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Walkthrough
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Demon Stalkers was lets you wander back to previous levels in most cases. It's
also necessary to do so in several instances. So if it seems like I'm
back-tracking, it's merely the only way to progress further. Also, given this
game is 100 levels long, I've broken down the Walkthrough section into
multiple sections. To make it even easier, you can simply type the level name
or number(I.E. : "Cruel But Fair", "Level 89") into the Find command box and
jump instantly to that level in the walkthrough. Lastly, I'll be identifying
levels which are good places for those "Scenario Disk" saves I mentioned
earlier in the General Tips Section.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6a. Levels 1-10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 1 : Welcome To Doomfane---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Rats)
For the heck of it, you can create a Scenario Disk save here...It's your disk.
As you start the level, head up and grab the key and Scroll. Let out a nervous
laugh at the level count and head back down. Kill any Rats in the way and open
the door at the bottom. Now head up and collect all the keys in this room.
Once clear of keys, head to the lower-left corner of the level and grab the
Bread And Water.
Now head straight up and to the right at the top. Grab the last couple of keys
and head down the stairs.....Now that wasn't hard, was it?
---Level 2 : Garden Of The Mutant Plants---
(Monsters : White Rats, Green Snappers)
This level starts off with a few Snapper Vortexes off to the side. Ignore them
and head start down. Open the door and make a turn to the right and back up.
Inside the door there you'll find Bread And Water and a couple of keys. Now
head for the lower-left to grab some Gold And Jewels as well as some Elf
Cakes. Then just head up the nearby stairs....there's nothing else here of
interest.
---Level 1 : Welcome To Doomfane---
This is what I was talking about. Well, back on level 1, grab the key and Elf
Cakes and head for the other Down stairs....Gee, that was exciting....
---Level 2 : Garden Of The Mutant Plants---
Head straight down and to the right. You can get the chest, but you'll just be
chewed out for doing so(okay....grab it once for laughs). Head up and move all
the way to the right once you pass the horizontal walls. Head up some more and
grab the Bread And Water. Now track back and take the left of three paths this
time. This leads back to....
---Level 1 : Welcome To Doomfane---
Duck out and grab the key and Gold And Jewels, then hit the other Down stairs
in this "intermission".
---Level 2 : Garden Of The Mutant Plants---
Head left then down to get past the Rats. Grab the Bread And Water and trek
back up. Now head for the upper-right corner. Grab the Bread And Water there
and head for the Down stairs.
---Level 3 : The Banquet Hall---
(Monsters : Cyan Rats, Green Snappers)
YES! You are finally finished the first two levels! Save if you want, but then
head down and to the left. Watch your fire, as there are Snapper Vortexes at
the end of the passage. Head up at the crossroads and then left. Carefully
grab the four keys in this room and STOP! If you move too far down, you may
accidentally attract the attention of a few Rats....standing in a room PACKED
with Snappers! Head back to the crossroads and head straight down. Take care
of the few rats in your way, then head left and open ALL the chests in this
center room. They're stocked with food(mostly Banquets)! More importantly, you
aren't allowed to leave unless you open all of the chests....Guess that
objective is clear. Head back to the passage again, but this time head
directly right and then up at the end. Read the Scroll, then head right and
follow the passage to the end. Enter the stairs and welcome to....
WAIT! Not yet! It turns out you have a message from Arthur and his companions.
These guys have left chances at Health bonuses along the way. Just answer the
question to win the prize. In this case, the answer to this scroll is
"Calvrak". As for the password, I can't give it out. The passwords required
are on a code wheel included with the game and it changes each game what
password is required. Either use Arthur's Magical Cypher(blue disc that comes
with the game) or download a "password" cracker from nearly any C-64 site).
Once you have entered the correct password, you will then enter....
---Level 4 : Use What Magic You Find Wisely.---
(Monsters : White Rats, Purple Snappers)
Grab ALL of the Scrolls....You now have a few Death Spells in your inventory.
While you can go exploring in this level, the Rats dancing around the Snappers
make it difficult to grab a lot of stuff without getting nailed. Just follow
the diagonal corridors to a spot near the upper-right corner of the level.
There, use a Death Spell to clear out the Snappers directly to your left.
Stand near the Vortex while you do this, in case the spell only destroys the
Snappers(which it often does). Head directly to the left, then down at the
next set of Vortexes. If there are any Snappers in your way, just let off
another spell and move on.
---Level 5 : Strength And Magic---
(Monsters : White Rats, Cyan Dervishes)
Ah, the first level with Dervishes. Luckily, these early versions are slow and
have low health. Open the door and back up to kill all the Dervishes before
they touch you. Once it's clear, head further down and shoot any Dervishes you
can through the gaps in the diagonal walls(yes, you can do that). Now take
whichever path(left or right) you feel comfortable heading up....It really
makes no difference. Just beware of the Dervishes on the paths. Grab the two
Warrior's Belts. Now you can stand up to these Dervishes easily, but let's
take a small detour. Follow the same path the Scroll is on to find a bunch of
rats, some Bread And Water and a Death Spell....Not too shabby. Head back up
and take the upper-right path this time. Stay against the edge of the
level...When you see a group of single blocks, it means there's a Dervish
between them. Take it out fast with your crossbow, as a Death Spell would be a
waste with your new Belts. The exit in the lower-right corner leads to...
---Level 6 : Watch The Walls---
(Monsters : Yellow Snappers, Cyan Dervishes)
Grab the keys at the start and meet the nastier version of the Dervish. The
version in this level will come at lightning speed at you. Start shooting the
moment you see one....The Warrior's Belts from the last level will certainly
help with this! Head up, right, then down. Shoot through the weak wall(it
looks different from the rest) and keep moving down. Watch for more speedy
Dervishes, then collect the booty below. Head back up on the left side, then
head straight left. Ignore the Snappers and keep moving. Grab the Warrior's
Belt and Elf Cakes, then decide if you want a little more treasure. There's
a key and Gold And Jewels above, but they are guarded by Dervishes and
Snappers. Below the Belt you'll find two Elf Cakes and a Bread And Water, but
those also have some Snappers and a Dervish guarding them. Heading down on the
right side will allow you to kill the Dervish without hitting the
Snappers...and you can also avoid being tagged by the Dervish, thanks to the
shootable walls. Lastly, you'll save a key. From there, just head down and to
the right, straight down the narrow passage. Now, shoot the one Snapper in the
way and head right. You can go up and get the chest above the Down stairs, but
it's a locked chest with only Gold and Jewels. Ah well. On to....
---Level 7 : Shining Bright---
(Monsters : White Rats, Purple Dervishes)
This level was designed as a bonus level of sorts. You'll find Score Bonuses,
Death Spells, food and treasure galore. Just head clockwise around the level
grabbing everything along the way until you wind up back at the start. There
are Dervishes here, but they are thankfully slowly than the Level 6 version.
When you find the exit in the middle of the level, go just to the left past
it. You'll find a Bread And Water and an Elf Cakes there. Jump down the chute
to...
---Level 8 : Ambush---
(Monsters : White Mages, Yellow Mages)
Time to meet the Mad Mages. Collect the Scrolls in your area, then go on a
circular hunting spree. Kill all the Mages in your immediate area and get what
keys you can. When finished, head to the right of your starting point to find
a breakable wall. Destroy the Vortexes while standing next to them(to prevent
any Mages from coming out). Along this path, take a detour down for three
keys(and more Mages). Come back up and continue right. Clear the room and head
down. Take a breather and collect your "prizes". Now head down and straight
left. There are a lot of Mages in the way here, but they are mostly weak. Just
destroy the Vortexes as you come to them and you'll be fine. Take the stairs
at the end to go to....
---Level 9 : Hauberk O Bloodaxe---
(Monsters : Yellow Mages, Purple Mages)
I'm afraid I don't know what "Hauberk" means, but I do know that Bloodaxe is
one of Arthur's traveling companions. In either case, complete this level
counter-clockwise, starting in the lower-left and grabbing the Helms of
Defense in each of the four corners. There are several Mages around, but they
aren't too much tougher than Level 8's versions. Once you've gotten all four
Helms(and taken most of the stuff here), head for the large room near the
lower-right. Defeat the Mages in your way, then jump down the chute to find...
Another scroll. The answer to this one is "Grindlewald"(one of Arthur's
"traveling companions"). Okay, now onto...
---Level 10 : The Slave Pit---
(Monsters : Cyan Mages, Dark Blue Mages)
First things first...make a Scenario here! This is a perfect pausing point for
doing so...
Now, run to the left and then up! If you wait, it gives the Mages time to
break out and harass you. If you want them, there are two Helms, a Bread And
Water, two Elf Cakes and a Banquet food inside the "slave pit". There are
several loose mages also inside, however, including several Dark Blue Mages.
Luckily, they all have low health and will die with one or two shots if you
grabbed all of the Belts so far. When finished, head for the exit in the
upper-left to enter...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6b. Levels 11-20
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 11 : One Way Or Another---
(Monsters : Red Snappers, Purple Dervishes)
This level introduces one-way doors. I suggest you don't touch any food here\
except for the Banquet next to the stairs. Most of the food here is poisoned.
Just make your way through the doors to the lower-right as best as you
can(blockades and the like will try to impede you). Also, look before you
enter a door as the designers made a couple of dead-ends to trap you into
Surrendering. At the end, you'll find the stairs to...
---Level 12 : The Crypt---
(Monsters : White Ghosts, Green Ghosts)
Welcome to the first level with Ghosts(obviously). Step out and eliminate all
of the White ghosts(they only take a couple of shots), grab the Bread And
Water, then head out and snag the two Elf Cakes. Go up at the crossroads. Take
out any Vortexes you can reach on your way up, then head left to the Elf
Cakes(your call if you want it). Your main interest is below the food : Two
Helms of Defense and three Keys! Head down and get the Elf Cakes(again, if you
want it), then head right and up. You'll find yourself back at the crossroads.
Head right this time. As you work your way right, do NOT touch the chests! If
you do, you will release some very nasty Ghosts. Just head up when you reach
the east border and grab the stuff. Now head back down and grab some more
stuff. You're now finished and may take the stairs to...
---Level 13 : Unlucky Thirteen---
(Monsters : White Rats, White Ghosts)
No matter which of the three paths you take, you will still pick up a Slow
Death Curse and have to make a dash for the chute. All you choose is how long
of a path you will take. I recommend the rightmost path. It's the fastest and
you get a better reward in the next level. The leftmost path can lead to more
treasure on THIS level, but at the expense of Relics in the next. The middle
path isn't worth exploring.
---Level 14 : Paths Of Peril---
(Monsters : White Ghosts, Cyan Ghosts)
It's a straight path no matter which path you took on Level 13. However, there
seems to be more Magician's Wands if you took the rightmost path. Either way,
collect the Wands and Scrolls along the route. When it tells you to use your
Spells, don't bother. Just run for the exit and the Ghosts will never catch
you.
---Level 15 : The Crossroads---
(Monsters : Yellow Snappers, White Ghosts)
This is your first nasty level. If you have any Death Spells left from
Level 14, you might as well use them up here....They'll be gone after the next
level. To start, head up and look for a "diamond room" with a shootable wall
on the upper-left and upper-right side of the room up. Take the upper-right
path and keep heading up and right until you reach a room with four Chests.
Grab them all, as there is a Helm and Belt in two of them. Trek back and take
the upper-left path to find a room with a Chest, a Scroll and some food. The
Scroll says "Welcome To The Crossroads!". Now, take the upper-left path and
wind around with it. This will lead to the stairs, where a Scroll
congratulates you. Now take the stairs to...
Another one of Arthur's scrolls. The correct answer for this one is
"vortexes".
(Note to those who thought about exploring Level 15 : DON'T! They are a lot of
nasty pick-ups, such as Poison and Slow Death Curses. Also, the level's layout
makes it easy to get lost, which is a bad combination with the low health you
are likely to wind up with...)
---Level 16 : Care Is The Key To Survival---
(Monsters : Red Dervishes, White Ghosts)
Can I have an award for "Most Punful Level Name In A Commodore Game", please?
Now, you know you have a limit to how many keys and Spells you can carry,
right? Those Dervishes are here to help you make it through. If you are one
key away from having that "Pockets Full" message, back-track to a Dervish and
let it suck up all of your keys. For the shortest path, just stay as close to
the left and bottom walls as possible. If you HAVE to go right or up, do so
but remain next to the wall. The exit is in the lower-left corner.
---Level 17---
(Monsters : Red Snappers, Cyan Dervishes)
Don't complain to me about the level name. The designers forgot to give this
and the next level any name what-so-ever. To start, head down and immediately
to the way right(right under the Snappers). Head down from there and grab the
Belt. Kill the two Dervish Vortexes below and then just follow the path to the
right. Head a little down and MUCH farther right, grabbing the key along the
way. Head through the shootable wall and destroy another Vortex. Keep going
and ignore the one-way door you come across. Just go straight down, destroy
two more Vortexes and head for the exit.
---Level 18---
(Monsters : White Dervishes, Yellow Mages)
There are four FAST Dervish Vortexes outside of your entrance, so use a Death
Spell the moment you start the level if you have one. If you're lucky, you
should destroy one or two Vortexes right off. Now, quickly get out of the
staircase and run in the direction of the destroyed Vortexes. If you didn't
have a Death Spell, just run to the right and through the middle path's chest.
Once the other Vortexes are off-screen, turn and fire at any Dervishes that
followed. Now inch up(or down) so you only face one Vortex at a time. Destroy
that Vortex(the Dervishes aren't dangerous, just fast) and take out the other
one in the same manner. Now grab the couple of keys in your area and start
unlocking chests. If you need more keys, take the top of the three paths on
the right. There are about six keys at the end of that path alone. Now
back-track to the three paths and just explore from there. Really, there is no
secret or anything to this level. The chests are all easily reachable and
there are no maze-like paths. Just watch out for the Mages and you'll be fine.
Once you have all ten chests, track back to the entrance and take the exit
right next to it(convenient, eh?).
---Level 19 : Victorious---
(Monsters : Yellow Rats, White Ghosts)
While I have no clue what counts as being "victorious" here, it's a relatively
safe level. You can take the quick path(Route 2) or the treasure
path(Route 1). For Route 1, just take the lower-left path to the corner of the
room. Now just stay there for the moment. Route 2 meets up with Route 1 there,
so give me a moment to describe the other route.
***Route 2 Begins Here***
Start by taking the upper path and taking out the Ghost Vortex and grabbing
the stuff there. Head back and take the upper-right path. Follow it to the
upper-right corner, snagging the stuff along the way. From there, head down
and immediately to the left. Now turn upwards into the spiral and grab all the
goodies inside. Head back out and head just a little to the left. Curve down
and to the right into a small room to grab a Warrior's Belt. Now get out of
there and head to the lower-left corner.
***Route 2 meets up with Route 1 here***
Head to the right, grabbing the Chests at the bottom. Now head right and count
off to the third corridor above you. In this corridor hides a Death Spell,
instead of a Rat's Grate. Continue right, grabbing the Helm inside the small
hole. Head up, then U-Turn back down the other side. Take out the Ghost
Vortexes anyway you please, then take the stairs to...
---Level 20 : The Key---
(Monsters : Red Dervishes, Dark Blue Mages)
This level was designed as a nightmare. You need to open all of the chests,
but without the trick, that takes a lot of keys. What's the trick? Head down
to the wall, then to the right CAREFULLY! Red FAST Dervishes are everywhere.
If you need the items, open the doors at the top and bottom of these areas and
kill the single Mages guarding them. Ignore the Chests near the stairs for now
and head right. Destroy the breakable walls above or below the vertical line
of Vortexes. Now on the other side, it's the exact opposite. It will be Mages
that will annoy you, rather than fast Dervishes, so you can be a little less
cautious. Once you are all the way to the right, you'll note a single Scroll
next to a one-way door. This is the point of no return! Grabbing it opens all
of the doors, so make sure you are finished grabbing goodies. Ready? Grab the
Scroll and then the Chest directly below it, then go through the one-way door
and run through all of the chests without stopping. Dive into the Down stairs
to wind up on...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6c. Levels 21-30
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 21 : The Money Or Your Life---
(Monsters : Yellow Dervishes, White Ghosts)
Head straight down and grab the Slow Death Curse Scroll. Now head back up the
stairs to remove the Curse and allow you the time to explore the level safely.
Again, you have a choice of two paths, but they don't meet up this time. The
quick path is straight down past a few Ghost Vortexes....That's it! As for the
long/treasure path, step through the one way door. Now grab as few keys as
possible on your way up. Take out all of the Dervishes along the top(that
means going all the way to the right and back), then come back and grab all of
the keys. Head back right, opening any chests that suit your fancy. Once done,
head down and to the left. Destroy the breakable walls and head further down.
Head right, killing all Ghosts and Dervishes in your way. Look for a wall you
can break through where one of the Dervishes pops out and bust through it.
Once through, head right and break through THAT wall. AVOID the Scroll you
find in the lower-right corner! That's another Slow Death Curse. Head all the
way to the left, then take out the Ghosts and their Vortexes. Now get all that
you can in this room and take the exit(finally!). Both exits lead you to...
Another scroll. The answer to this one is "Slow Death Curse". After another
password, you then enter-
---Level 22 : Furrowfoots Maze---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Snappers)
Here's another great place for a Scenario Save, so please take the time to do
so...
Ah, how wonderful. An actual maze.....Sick yet? Just head straight down to the
Scroll and make repeated left-right turns. To make it more definitive, head
down or right whenever you get the chance. Never go up or to the left unless
absolutely forced. So if you are heading down and there's a choice of two
paths, head right and vice versa. Got it? Good. Follow that pattern until you
reach a single Snapper in your path. Shoot it and you will be at the exit. If
you are ever unsure of the right way, Scrolls with the words "This is the way
out... -Furrowfoot" mean you are on the right track.
---Level 23 : No Clues Is Good Clues---
(Monsters : Green Dervishes...Yes, only one monster type. Live with it.)
Enough puns yet? Again there's a quick and treasure path, but we'll get to
that. Just head right and shoot every Dervish in your way. Once you reach the
other corner, head up and use a Death Spell to eliminate the Dervish Vortexes
in the room nearby(you'll thank me later). Ignore the food and head up. Now
STOP! If you want the goodies, you'll have to do this on your own. The path is
far too complicated to lay out here. When you read a Scroll, follow its
instructions to the letter to take the treasure path. If you are facing left
and the Scroll says "Go to the second Scroll, read it and turn left.", it
means go forward to the second Scroll in front of you, read the instructions,
then turn to YOUR left(so you are facing down) and do what that Scroll you
just read told you to do. Got it? Follow the path and you'll get all of the
Death Spells and not hit the one Slow Death Curse. I don't know its exact
position, but I do remember it's near the top of the second from the right
column of Scrolls....Sorry I can't be more precise:-/. When you are done, head
through the one-way door that is the closest to the right(the one that leads
to the room you Death Spelled earlier). Take out the few Dervishes remaining,
then just pass through without touching the Chests inside, as they both
contain bad items. Go through the one-way door to the left to find the stairs.
---Level 24 : Beware The Mad Mages---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes, Purple Mages)
Don't touch the key just yet! Instead, shoot between the doors and kill all of
the enemies around your "cage". Once clear, grab the key and open the doors.
Now repeat that for the other "cage" doors in your way. After you've opened
all of the doors around the staircase, head down towards the lower-left and
grab the items...You'll want them later. Now, head to the upper right and then
down towards the lower-right, taking out the sets of Mages and Dervishes like
you did just before. Inside the new "cages" are two Warrior's Belts, so it's
worth your time to snag them. When the lower-right is clear, head towards the
lower-left. Deal with the Mages and drop down the chute...
---Level 25 : Bottled Up---
(Monsters : Purple Snappers, Red Dervishes)
Did the last level seem simple? Not to worry...Here's a nice aggravating level
for you(get the hint that I hate this stage?). Start by luring out the
Dervishes and killing them quickly. There are Snappers a little above your
starting position, but they aren't of concern for now. Clear any Dervishes
around the "one-way maze"(you'll see it) and find all the Scrolls outside of
the maze, but to the left of the left-most Snappers. When you have those, head
back to the Snappers near your Starting point. Head left and up. When you see
the red Vortex, activate a Death Spell quickly! You just prevented more
Dervishes from coming out of there. Now grab the items here and head back
down. Enter the one-way maze on the left side and use the art of diagonal
shooting to destroy the Dervishes blocking most of your path, before you step
through the doors. When you reach a point where you can't hit them
diagonally(along the top of the maze), use a Death Spell to clear the three
out. Having more than one Spell helps, as sometimes they don't all die. Once
past, get the Scroll in the lower-right corner of the maze. Now you may leave
the level.
(By the way, there is no way to reach all of the goodies near your start
point. It's just there to frustrate you....Worked, didn't it?)
---Level 26 : Those Bells Are Getting Louder---
(Monsters : Purple Ghosts, Cyan Mages)
Whew! Time for a little R & R. Head down immediately and hit the Bell. It's a
Time Stop Bell, so kill the Vortexes below you that you can see by moving
straight down. Now run into the Bell until it reactivates. Run back up and
enter the one-way door. If a Mage is blocking the way, just use a Death
Spell(you should have one left over from the last level). Now destroy all of
the Vortexes quickly before the Bell's magic runs out. Just follow the path
right and then up. Once at the top, run left and hit the next Bell....another
Time Stop. Now, grab the treasure at your leisure, returning to the Bell to
ring it again before it runs out. Once you have cleared the area of loot, head
left and down to where you found the first Bell. Ring that one again and head
right, taking out more Mage Vortexes. Once clear on the bottom, collect the
treasure while on your way back to hit the Bell one last time. Now head back
to the right and then up through the Mage Vortexes. Head down the Stairs to...
---Level 27 : The Catacombs. Find All Scrolls.---
(Monsters : White Ghosts, Green Ghosts)
Cute title, eh? Well, head straight down and take out any Ghosts in your way.
Basically, you have to explore every inch of this place to find all of the
Scrolls. Truthfully, it's not even a maze. Once you have all of the
Scrolls(three text and one Death Spell), you may leave by taking the chute.
This leads to...
Another one of Arthur's scrolls. The answer to this one is "Ginglebrix"(kudos
to whoever came up with that name). Another password later and you wind up
at...
---Level 28 : The Manor---
(Monsters : White Dervishes, Purple Mages)
Two paths...this time grab the Chest(Helm Of Defense) and take the upper path.
If you remembered the text from the last level, it mentioned that the food in
the bottom path was poisoned. At the top, grab the Invisibility Amulet and
kill the Mages quickly. Head right afterwards and enjoy the Health boost. Kill
the Dervishes and continue right. Enter the one-way door and kill a few more
Dervishes. Head up and grab the Chest(be wary of more Dervishes). Then head
down(still wary) for the chute. This leads to...
---Level 29 : The Long March---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Snappers)
They aren't kidding! Start by heading down and taking out the Rats in your
way. Now head right, watching your fire as there are Snappers here(don't bump
into the doors, either). Now head up, once again playing exterminator. At the
choice of two paths, take the bottom one. If you have two players, send the
one with more health along the upper path. There may be poisoned food, but
there are also some useful items up there. Regardless of either, use a Death
Spell halfway through to clear the Snappers some. Once through, head down and
kill yet more rats. Head right at the end and watch for yet more Snappers.
Head up at that end. If there are any more Snappers in your immediate way
here even after your Death Spell, just shoot through. Just a few more groups
of Rats and Snappers until you'll finally reach the stairs!
---Level 30 : Rooms With A View---
(Monsters : Yellow Dervishes, Purple Mages)
Here's another good spot for a Scenario Save, if you haven't done so already.
This level is....unique, to say the least. Ignore the Confusion Bell for now.
Head directly left and loot that room. Now head for the next two rooms
clockwise from there. Again, empty them. Skip the next clockwise room and
enter the one after it. Ignore the next room clockwise from there and enter
the next(notice a pattern?). Skip the next room clockwise once more and empty
the one after it. Now, go and ring the Bell. Enter the lower-left room and
quickly kill the Dervishes and their vortex, then work on the Mages. Once you
clear that room(of monsters and items), head for the exit...You're finished
here(gotten all the chests).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6d. Levels 31-40
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 31 : A Picnic In The Forest---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, Yellow Mages)
This level can be horrendous or merely annoying. The problem is that this
level is filled with Snappers. Also, some of those Snappers are blocking Mage
Vortexes that have a high chance of spawning Fanatics. So just grab the
immediate treasure near your starting area. Then head straight up to the top,
then head to the upper-left corner. Grab the Relic, then head straight down to
find the chute. If you want to explore, go ahead. There are several items
lying around this level. But remember that it is extremely dangerous to do
so...
---Level 32 : Spiral To The Unknown---
(Monsters : Yellow Rats, White Ghosts)
At the start, head straight up and just follow the path past several Rats and
Ghosts. When you reach a choice of three paths, shoot through the breakable
wall on the rightmost path. Head up and grab the two Death Spells. Now go back
down, grab the food and then take the left-most path. If you can't collect a
Relic, use the Surrender command to drop your Relic levels until you can. Once
you have all of the Relics, simply follow the path until you reach a chute.
That was simple...
---Level 33 : Tiptoe By---
(Monsters : Cyan Mages, Purple Mages)
This level is a tad long. This assumes you didn't take the path that lead to
"The Pit". Head directly right and hit the Summoning Bell at the end. Now stay
at the top and head left, ignoring the Mages and destroying the Vortexes as
you go past. You are now at the point where the Pit "drops you"...Big
difference, isn't it? Well, head down, go through the one-way door and hit the
next Summoning Bell. Stay high to avoid the Mages and again destroy all
Vortexes in your way. Grab the goodies on the other side and step through the
next one-way door. Enter the next room and ring the third Summoning Bell.
Stay low and head to the left. Grab the Chests next to the one-way door. Now
leave the room and head along the bottom, collecting the food at the end. Head
up and ring the last Summoning Bell to help clear your path to the exit...but
do remember to grab the goodies before you leave.
Arthur once again gives us a question for a Health bonus. The answer to this
one is "bell tower".
---Level 34 : The Belltower---
(Monsters : White Dervishes, Purple Mages)
Now we get to fool around with all of the Bell types...heh heh heh. Head down
and take out the Dervishes, but DON'T touch these Bells! They are all Enrage
Monsters. Head down and to the right, grabbing the food and items. Now track
back and take the turn through the shootable wall that you missed on the way
here. Hit the first Bell you come to...It's a Time Stop Bell room! Clear the
Mages, then lean into the Bell closest to the one-way door. When it
re-activates, run through the door and quickly head up, then left. Kill as
many Mages Vortexes as you can, then hit a Confusion Bell when the Time Stop
runs out. Now just head along the top of this room to the next, turning up
when you can. Just take the stairs you find to...
---Level 35 : Hacker Jacks Revenge---
(Monsters : Purple Rats, Yellow Dervishes)
Can anyone tell me who "Hacker Jack" is? Regardless, the Dervishes are extra
fast in this stage. So if you see one, shoot it on sight! If you want, you can
fool around with the chests and doors, but I recommend saving your keys for
later. There are too many "booby" prizes here(Chests with Text Scrolls,
poisoned food, etc.). Just head down and to the left. When you see the
staircase, head straight up and straight down into it. Again, if you desire
treasure, Relics and more, you may do so at the expense of your keys. It can
certainly be worthwhile, but do consider the fast Dervishes. Just remember to
not bother with the Scrolls and food...just get the Chests and Relics.
---Level 36 : Tunnel Dive---
(Monsters : Cyan Mages, Red Mages)
Just head to the right killing all the Mages, then get the treasure. Now
breathe deep and head up. Have each player grab one of the Extra Speed Amulets
and run to the left and DO NOT STOP until you reach the end! Once there, use
your speed to run down and grab the Death Spell on the right. Then, head down
to the lower-left corner. From there, head right and grab the Elf Cakes. The
exit is nearby.
---Level 37 : Dead Mans Chest---
(Monsters : Purple Dervishes, Red Mages)
This level is easier to solve than it looks. Leave the Chests alone for now.
Just go across the top and defeat all Dervishes and their Vortexes. Head down
to the next row and repeat....and repeat...until the level is cleared of them.
Go back to the top and grab the non-diagonal Chests in the groups. In other
words, if you stand in the center of the eight Chests, grab only the chests
directly above, below, to the left and right of you. Once you have all of the
treasure, enter the large room in the lower-right. As the lone chest says, the
rule in here is reversed. So grab only the "diagonal" Chests in here, using
that tricky diagonal movement. Once those Chests are emptied, use a Death
Spell to clear a path to the exit in the lower-right. This leads to...
---Level 38 : The Eternal Corridor---
(Monsters : Cyan Rats, Yellow Mages)
This is even worse than Level 29. However, if you still have Wall Walking
power from the last level, you can just use a Death Spell and walk through the
left, then top wall to the exit...you won't be missing much. If not, grab the
key and head down the corridor. As you traverse the level, watch the area
directly to the top-right of your character. That's where you'll be heading
next. First stop is a Summoning Bell. Hit it and shoot apart the walls to
avoid the Rats. Past that is an area with plenty of doors and stuff. Ignore
the Scrolls(which are Slow Death) and nab the Chests(which have Relics and
Death Spells). Now shoot as many Vortexes as you can that you'll see in the
upper-right...The Mages will be in the way later. Move further down and
destroy yet more Vortexes and snag the Extra Speed Amulets. Now run down the
corridor and shoot through the breakable walls. When you see three Mage
Vortexes, you're near the end. Just pass that and you'll find the chute to...
---Level 39 : Calvraks Mage Torture Chambers---
(Monsters : Green Mages...and ONE Red Mage at the end)
Oh yes...Tons of Mages are loose in this level. Start by heading left and
grabbing all the Elf Cakes and keys. Now head up and enter the next three
rooms, killing any Mages hanging around while you loot the items laying about.
Upon leaving the top room, head straight down. Do NOT open any doors until you
hit bottom! Once at the bottom, head left then up. Grab the Scrolls, then
shoot the single Mage to your right(who would waste the Death Spell on him?).
Head right and "circle" the center chamber. The center room has Mage Vortexes
with high Fanatic spawning probability, so just steer clear of there. When you
reach the lower-left "section", grab the chest and kill the red Mage. You just
earned a Staff Of Life! Ignore the Scroll's comment and take the stairs.
Arthur interrupts here again. The answer this time is "Life". After the
password, you'll enter...
---Level 40 : Easy As Walking On Water---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes, Purple Ghosts)
Here's another good Scenario Save point. Don't worry about the Dervishes, as
they can't reach you in the staircase.
Start by using a Death Spell to clear out the Dervishes. Or, if your Strength
stat is high enough, you can use your crossbow instead. Now head left and
collect the Wall Walking Amulets. If you have two players, don't bother with
the door. What point is there in wasting a key?:)
Hurry left and then up. Grab everything in the boxes. There's no penalty in
this "bonus round". Remember that you can walk BETWEEN the Chests and food to
get inside. After the Amulets run out(or you empty the treasure "bins", head
up and make a U-Turn to the right and down. You'll find another pair of
Wall Walking Amulets for you. This time, however, just head straight right for
the stairs and ignore the treasure. It's not worth fighting the Ghosts and
Dervishes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6e. Levels 41-50
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 41 : Cubic Nasties---
(Monsters : White Ghosts, Purple Mages)
As it's possible to enter this level with Wall-Walking power, it's also easy
to take a route that's completely different. Because of this, I will give you
both a Wall Walker and non-Wall Walker walkthrough(say THAT three times
fast!;)). However, because the Wall Walking power can wear out at any time, I
will also identify points along the way so you can "cross" over to the other
walkthrough should the Amulet run out prematurely.
***Wall Walker Walkthrough***
(Point A)Head for the box directly below you and to the right(the one with a
Ghost Vortex inside). Kill all of the Ghosts inside and grab the stuff fast!
Head to the right and through the wall. (Point B)Ignore the Amulet next to the
Mage above you and enter the box. Kill the few Ghosts inside and loot it. Now
head up and through that wall. (Point C)Move directly to the right to find
another Amulet of Wall Walking and the stairs leading down.
***Non-Wall Walker Walkthrough***
(Point A)Start by heading right and up. Ignore the "Mage boxes", as there's
nothing useful in them. Make a U-Turn back down, (Point B)ignoring the Amulet
next to the Mage. Keep heading down and right then U-Turn back up once more,
running past the Ghost Vortex in the sealed room. You CAN use a Death Spell,
but that seems like a waste for just this. (Point C)Head straight right and go
for the room with the stairs. There IS an Amulet Of Wall Walking here if you
want to go back and grab all the stuff you missed. Just follow the steps for
the Wall Walker Walkthrough backwards.
---Level 42 : Life, The Universe And Everything ?---
(Monsters : White Rats, Dark Blue Rats)
Dull, yet deadly. You have to find the Magician's Wand in one of the Chests or
you can't leave. Head for the upper-left corner to find your two clues : "One.
Find the hidden Relic." and "Three. Find the hidden Relic."...How precise(note
the sarcasm, please). Here's how to decrypt it : Starting from the upper-left
corner's grate, count down to the third grate(yes, counting the corner grate
as one). At the third grate, grab the chest directly below it. Got it now?
First(one) Chest after the third(three) grate. Now head for the stairs(you
passed them on your way to the Scrolls).
---Level 43 : There Must Be An Easier Way!---
(Monsters : Cyan Rats...Yes, only one monster type here as well)
And there is! Grab the Scroll and read about your quest. Head to the
upper-left corner of your starting room and shoot through the breakable walls.
Stay on the "path" and don't take any unnecessary turns. At the end you'll
find two Amulets of Wall Walking(one above and one below the entrance to this
tiny room). Have each player grab one and quickly run north. Now dash through
all four sides of the "cube"(you'll know it when you see it), snatch the other
four Scrolls and head back to the Amulets' room. If it runs out prematurely,
just find a shootable wall and find your way back to the stairs(all the rooms
here excluding the "cube" have "escape hatches" that lead back).
---Level 44 : The Original Level---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, White Ghosts)
I've yet to understand why they named it as such, but I digress. Move straight
down and take out any Ghosts in your way. Ignore the Snappers for now and
concentrate on reaching the lower-left corner. There lies a Time Stop Bell.
Hit it and just kill everything in the level! When it's running low, trek back
to hit it again and continue your spree. To exit the level, just grab the Wall
Walking Amulet in the Chest located in the upper-right of the center room. But
do take the time to clear the level. There are a decent amount of power-ups
located here, and with the Bell, it makes it easy to grab them all without
being injured at all.
---Level 45 : Amulet Fusion---
(Monsters : Purple Mages, Dark Blue Snappers)
Time to get back to work. You need to collect all of the Amulets before you
can exit this level. Start by heading down and slightly to the left. Note the
Scroll that informs you that you should kill the enemies first. Do so and kill
all of the Mages inside the chamber(you'll be glad you did). Grab the
Amulet...then wait for the Paralysis to wear off. When it does, go back out
the way you came in and head for the lower-left corner. Grab the Invisibility
Amulets, then head up into the corner and collect the Extra Speed Amulets.
Run back down and head for the upper-right corner. Grab the Wall Walking
Amulets and walk straight through the wall below you to reach the stairs to...
Another one of Arthur's Scrolls. The answer to this one is "Yellow". Yet
another password and you may move on.
---Level 46 : As Night Falls---
(Monsters : Yellow Rats, White Ghosts)
Break through the shootable wall below you and get out...Yes it's a pain to do
that while in a staircase, but it's necessary. Track up and destroy the
Vortex. Head back down and to the right. Note the warning and follow the path
around. Ignore the items on your way to the lower-left corner as all of them
are either useless or harmful. You'll find a couple of items which are
actually helpful in the lower-left corner itself, however. Move upwards and
turn right into the path that leads over a rat's grate. Kill the Ghosts inside
and grab the Relics. Now kill any other Ghosts and Vortexes in the area. When
done, RUN for the upper-right and speed for the one-way door if you want the
Gold And Jewels. If you hesitate(Ghosts get in the way), no Chest for you.
Either way, Head right and down the long path. At the pair of one-way doors,
take the left door for some Elf Cakes. Once through, head right and up against
the wall. Now empty the nearby room of power-ups and head up. Just kill any
Ghosts in your way and jump down the chute.
---Level 47 : The Mages Are Coming---
(Monsters : Yellow Mages, White Ghosts)
Oh this level was a blast...Yeah, right! Grab the Scrolls and head straight
down. Turn left when you can WITHOUT breaking through a wall, then head up and
grab the Helm. If you can't pick it up, head further left and up to find two
Chests. Grab only the bottom one...the other one contains a Paralysis Amulet
that you don't have to get. At the top, you'll note three chests with a
warning that greed may be your downfall. Grab the middle Chest(the only good
one of the three) and head left, fighting the Mages in your way. At the next
set of three, grab the rightmost one to get a Key(again, the only good one).
Head straight down and go for the stairs. If you want the food you can get it,
but there's no reason to stay here.
---Level 48 : The Ghosts Run---
(Monsters : Green Mages, White Ghosts)
This level is rather annoying, but it's balanced by the fact you can get the
Sword Of Slaying here. Head right and keep going right until you reach a pair
of one-way doors. You'll also find some Ghost Vortexes below in multiple
small rooms. Destroy ALL of those Vortexes, but ignore the Scroll at the end!
Now, head back to the one-way doors and clear the Amulet away from the door
leading out. Now use a Death Spell and clear the Mages from the door and go
in. Snatch the Amulet next to the door, but leave the Yellow Wall Walking
Amulet alone for the moment. Grab everything else in the room EXCEPT the two
Scrolls in the upper-right corner behind the breakable walls! The Scroll that
hints about them being the only "release" is warning you that they are Slow
Death Curses. The Sword Of Slaying, however, is in the Chest in the
lower-right corner of this room. Head back out of the room to the
left(through a wall or the one-way door) and collect all of the goodies in
the upper-left section of the level. Once clear(of enemies and items), head to
the upper-left corner and then down. Follow the long path to the end and kill
all of the Ghosts on your way to the one-way door. If you have Wall Walking,
you should still take this path as the Ghosts will get in your way later on if
you don't take them out now. In the lower-left corner, ignore the food for now
and head right along the bottom. Open the door and hit the Bell, as it is a
wonderful Time Stop Bell. Defeat the Mages and head back. Now clear out the
Mages and snatch most of the food. The one on the level with the Mages' Vortex
against the left wall is poisoned. Now head back and grab the treasure along
the bottom, as the treasure above is either worthless or harmful(sound
familiar?). Take the stairs to...
---Level 49 : Diamonds---
(Monsters : White Snappers, Purple Dervishes)
This is the warm-up for the next stage. Destroy the Dervishes and their
Vortexes in the room to the right. Head in that direction to another square
room(looks like the starting room minus the stairs). From that room, head down
and take out the Dervishes in your way. At the bottom, head left and shoot the
Snapper Vortex on the other side and the Snappers with it. Pass through the
one-way door and take the stairs down.
By the way, I didn't list any treasures because they are not with fighting all
of the Dervishes and Snappers for. You can look for some if you want.
---Level 50 : For Whom The Bell Tolls---
(Monsters : Red Rats, Purple Dervishes)
UGH! This level starts off as a nightmare! Start by climbing out and killing
the Dervishes and Vortexes in your way. Burn off any Death Spells before they
can touch you! Stay near the left wall as you head up or down(doesn't matter
in this case) and watch for the one-way door. Go through it the moment you see
it, as there's no treasure on this side. Head straight down and hit the Time
Stop Bell. Run down and immediately left, then up. Ignore the treasure for now
and just keep moving and destroy the Dervish Vortexes near the one-way door.
Head back in and wait by the Time Stop Bell until it stops ringing. Hit it
again and go back for the treasure you passed just before. Kill any Dervishes
remaining and enjoy the relatively painless snagging, made painless even for
your key ring, thanks to the nearby Open All Doors scroll. Go back and hit
the Bell once more and head straight down from it this time. Destroy the
Vortex in front of the one-way door by shooting diagonally. Now head back
around and take the one-way door to the chute...mission complete.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6f. Levels 51-60
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 51 : The Memory Map---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes, Green Mages)
Here's yet another good Scenario Save point...
I have yet to see the point of this level. Note the Scroll that says "You Are
Here". The center room is supposed to be the equivalent of a map. Just follow
the path from the "marker" to the "marked" staircase...relatively easy. They
say there's a Staff Of Life on this level, but with the number of annoying and
dangerous Chests, I recommend just heading for the exit. If you are still
interested, it can be found near the upper-left corner.
Arthur interrupts here for a cheater's question. The only way to know the
answer is to have played to that point previously. The monsters on the level
below are "Rats"(the correct answer).
---Level 52 : The Rats Runaround---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Rats...What did you expect? Calvrak?)
Just head straight left then up or down(again, doesn't matter) until you spot
the stairs leading down. If you need a key after the previous level, just head
diagonally up and left from the top of the stairs' "room". You'll find a Rat's
Grate. From there, head straight up...the Key is directly on that path.
---Level 53 : Run For Your Life---
(Monsters : Purple Dervishes...yes, yes. Just one monster type...)
Just head to the right at the start. Collect all of the Keys and the two
Amulets of Wall Walking. Head to the left through the walls and grab ALL of
the Chests. Use a Death Spell or two to clear out the Dervishes and Wall Walk
to the stairs leading down.
---Level 54 : Lanod Cam---
(Monsters : Cyan Rats, Green Snappers)
I think that Lanod Cam is "Mac Donal" backwards, of which he was a programmer
on this project...I think. Sorry I can't be surer at this point. Anyway, head
down to the shootable wall and go through to the left. Head straight across
all the way to the left. Look for a very narrow corridor leading up and down.
Take that corridor all the way for a Chest and some food. In the Chest is the
Ring Of Willpower! Three down, one to go! Head back the way you came and go
down the chute. Ignore the path above it. All it has are a few Chests with
Gold And Jewels and a good chance you'll shoot the Snappers on the way back
down...no thanks!
---Level 55 : Sewers Of Salvation---
(Monsters : Dark Blue Rats...and a LOT of 'em!)
Ignore any treasure in this level and just head straight up following the
path. Locate the chute and jump down it...that's it. The rats are NOT worth
fighting to get the Relics!
---Level 56 : The Conservatory---
(Monsters : Yellow Rats, Green Snappers)
Bleah! This level is filled to the brim with Snapper Vortexes! All you have to
do is find the exit among the large amount of plant growth. Just head wherever
a fluke happens and a Snapper doesn't grow. The path is random every time and
the level wraps around, so I can't help that much. I know the exit is down and
to the right of your start, but since the path is different every time you
play I can't guarantee that's the direction you'll find it in. There are a few
Death Scrolls lying around, as well as a rather punful one..."Please don't
feed the plants". You'll know you're near the exit if you find a Rat's grate.
If it helps, the exit is directly south-west from your starting point.
---Level 57 : Furrowfoots Other Maze---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Snappers)
It's the same as level 22, but different(I've always wanted to say something
like that;)). The path isn't as simple as the first version, but the rule
remains the same : Make left-right turns throughout the level. Just tack on
this one addition : Only make a turn if you did not just make another turn in
the same direction as the last. In other words, if you just made a left turn,
do not make another left turn until you make a right turn. Also, only the
turns at the intersections count as "turns". Got it? Good. Once again,
following this pattern will lead you to the exit and Scrolls along the way
will tell you if you are on the right track. Jump down the chute to reach...
Another one of Arthur's Health chances. The answer to this one is
"Bloodaxe"(another of Arthur's companions).
---Level 58 : Pitfall Perils---
(Monsters : Cyan Ghosts, Purple Snappers)
How's your diagonal walking skills? To get to the Sword Of Slaying here(if you
missed it earlier), you must have mastered them to a degree. If you're not
interested in getting the Sword at all, just jump in the chute closest to the
upper-left and end the level right now.
For those who still wish to get the blade, head straight down and eliminate
the bunches of Ghosts, but ignore the Snappers. Now, look for a path across to
the right. You'll have to walk diagonally between the chutes to make it.
Destroy any Vortexes on and at the end of the path. Head further right and
note the chest behind a door in the upper-right room...that's the Sword. Work
your way over by going through the bottom door and going around the long
way(there are enough locked and unlocked chests no matter what). If you picked
up a Slow Death Curse, then hurry! Ignore the other Chests in the room, as
they are mostly bad. Grab the sword and head for the afore mentioned exit(best
place to enter the next level).
---Level 59 : The Misery Vaults---
(Monsters : White Rats, Red Mages)
With so many pits in level 58, I'm just starting from the where the chute in
my above walkthrough drops you...Grab the Chests that are nearby and head for
the exit to the upper-left of your starting position...No really! That's all
you have to do to reach level 60 if you drop in where I told you! If you want,
you can go treasure hunting, but there are several bad Chests lying around...
---Level 60 : The Ancient Armoury---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, Yellow Dervishes)
This is your unofficial "Good Scenario Save Spot" warning. If I had actually
been playing right now, I would have stopped this walkthrough long enough to
relax after going through 59 levels.
Start by killing the Dervishes in your way. Ease up on the shots when you see
a breakable on the right. There are some Snappers directly below the Dervishes
and you do NOT want to shoot them...yet:). Head through the wall and take out
the Dervish Vortex(use a Death Spell if you want). Head towards the center
room and take out the Dervishes, then note the clues in the Chests directly
above. Now head back to the left and take the long horizontal passage above
the Chests(one up from the one-way door). Now check your pockets. If you have
a lot of items, do not go to the left into the one-way doors with keys inside!
Otherwise, you will be trapped. Instead, go through the door to the right and
shoot the Dervishes and the like from behind the breakable wall. When it's
safe, run and hit the Time Stop Bell in the upper-right corner. Now clear out
the entire right side of enemies, all the way to the one-way door at the
bottom. Once clear, head back up and ring the Bell once more. Now head down
and go through the one-way door. Head up through another one-way door(use a
Death Spell if you have to clear it). Now clear out this room and pop the
doors on both the left and right sides. Enter the Chest room on your right and
collect them by going counter-clockwise around the Chest's room WITHOUT
touching any more chests than necessary to reach the room above the Chests.
Grab the two Wall Walking Amulets and enter the "sealed" room nearby. A chest
in there contains another Staff Of Life! You may now either collect keys and
Helms of Defense in the upper-left or just leave.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6g. Levels 61-70
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 61 : The Runaround---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, Purple Dervishes)
And they aren't kidding, either. Start by coming out and shooting the Dervish.
Now destroy the Dervish Vortex and its spawn down and to the right of you by
shooting through the wall. Do the same for the Vortex to your left. Head down
and collect the Chest. Now head right and up to find another set of Vortexes
on the right side. Destroy them all to find a path of Chests leading down.
Inside are one of each of the Relics and one Death Spell. Now head up and to
the upper-left corner, kill the Snappers and head to the lower-left corner to
earn a little more booty. Head for the exit in the "middle" of this level.
---Level 62 : The Runaround 2---
(Monsters : Purple Rats, White Ghosts)
Start by heading for the door up and to the right of your starting point. Kill
and collect everything, including the Death Spells. Head back and take the
middle path to find several Ghosts and a few more Chests. Grab
the stuff inside but ignore the Bell and Chest near the Vortex...it's a Bell
of Enrage Monsters with an Amulet of Paralysis(they want you DEAD;)...)! Grab
them all...inside one is an Artifact(I think it's the Staff...it's hard to
tell which one it is when you're stats are maxed). There's also an Amulet of
Wall Walking sitting out. Head along the top to the right, killing all of the
Ghosts and Rats that get in your way. Keep heading right to find the Up stairs
to the second half of level 61. But wait! If the Wall Walking is still in
effect, you can walk straight through the wall to your right, by-passing that
section entirely. However, you will also skip out on several Elf Cakes and a
few Relics...your call. For those who walked through the wall regardless,
scroll down to the second "Level 62" to see where you should go next...
---Level 61 : The Runaround---
Two Dervish Vortexes are right below you as you start. Quickly use a Death
Spell to hopefully destroy both of them! Grab the Chests above, then head down
and kill the Dervish Vortex at the right end of the horizontal corridor. Snag
the Elf Cakes and destroy all of the monsters in the other "rooms" above the
corridor. The reason you want to kill them first is that a few of the Chests
contain Paralysis Amulets. Head left and up, taking out the few enemies in
your path, grab the treasure. Now head all the way to the bottom and go right,
shooting through all of the enemies in your way to the first breakable wall
above you. Bust through it and make your way to the right through small room
after small room of enemies(four total)! Head up and clear out the Vortexes
above you, then go on a Chest grab(there are a couple of Paralysis Amulets, if
you wanted to know why you destroyed the Vortexes first). Head for the stairs
to return to...
---Level 62 : The Runaround 2---
Go left from the stairs and grab the Helm of Defense. Now head down and to the
left to find a couple of keys. Now loot the area starting for the bottom-right
corner. If you haven't got enough keys, just leave and come back after you've
cleaned out a little of level 63. You should have enough keys to unlock
everything here by then.
---Level 63 : Only Twenty Levels To The Maze...!---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, Yellow Ghosts)
Is that supposed to be a warning? Definitely...
As you start, be aware that the Yellow Ghosts here are super quick and the
Green Snappers are super strong. That means if you miss a shot, you could
easily be surrounded by a lot of angry and tough Snappers. Head all the way to
the right and collect your key. Turn around and head all the way to the left.
There you'll find the only door not blocked by a Snapper. Go through it and
begin looting the level. Ignore the two Chests in the middle of the level and
just collect/destroy everything else EXCEPT for two Scrolls diagonally next to
one another that are placed near the stairs. One of them is a Slow Death Curse
while the other is just a text Scroll...not worth your life. Now is the time
to go back and collect any treasures you missed in Level 62. Once done, come
back and re-clear any enemies in your way that regenerated(again, ignoring the
Snappers if possible). Now collect the Wall Walking Amulet in the chest and
collect as much of the "sealed away" treasure as you can. After that, leave
the level.
Arthur offers another shot at a Health bonus here. The answer to the question
is "sixty six".
---Level 64 : A Pointer---
(Monsters : White Snappers, Cyan Ghosts)
You could easily wind up with damage you don't need unless you pay strict
attention to the level layout. Head to the upper-right, hitting the Bell to
Summon the monsters. Head right and then down, ignoring all chests for now.
Burst through the Cyan Ghost Vortexes below and head up on the right side of
those Chests. Now, as you head up, do you see that diagonal wall you walked
along to get here? Did you notice how it looks like a large arrow? Grab the
Chest the arrow is pointing to...and rejoice. That Chest contains the last
Artifact in the set : The Magical Shield! Well, make no waste. Head to the
right and jump down a chute(doesn't matter which).
---Level 65 : The Matrix I. The Pits Of Despair.---
(Monsters : Green Mages, White Ghosts)
Ugh, I hate these two levels(this and the next)! Head for the nearest chute to
find yourself at...
---Level 66 : The Matrix II. The Stronghold.---
(Monsters : Dark Blue Mages, Red Ghosts)
This is the nasty surprise Arthur mentioned. This place is filled with Dark
Blue Mages, a high chance of Fanatics and absolutely NO power-ups! Even
better, unless you choose the right selection of staircases, you could be
stuck here for a long time. Start by clearing the area(don't worry. I'll
wait). Now head into the third staircase from the left that you can enter from
where you are now(you'll see plenty).
---Level 65 : The Matrix I. The Pits Of Despair.---
Nothing fancy. Just keep heading left, grabbing the Death Spells along the way
to the pit. There's a Slow Death Curse, but it's nothing to worry about here.
---Level 66 : The Matrix II. The Stronghold.---
Again, nothing spectacular. Just head up for the next staircase.
---Level 65 : The Matrix I. The Pits Of Despair.---
Same strategy as before. Just wander left until you wind up falling down a
chute, picking up Death Spells and killing any Mages and Ghosts in the way.
---Level 66 : The Matrix II. The Stronghold.---
Head up while killing a TON of Mage Vortexes, and bust through the shootable
wall on the right. Go through and enter the staircase at the top.
---Level 65 : The Matrix I. The Pits Of Despair.---
Head left. Kill all in way. Are we there yet?
---Level 66 : The Matrix II. The Stronghold.---
Kill everything around here and take the stairs at the bottom of this room...
---Level 67 : I Am Here To Help You---
(Monsters : Yellow Mages, Cyan Ghosts)
FINALLY! No more Matrix I and II!(until the second movie, anyway)
This level is relatively short compared to the last two. You need the Staff Of
Life to exit and you only get one shot, so PLEASE save! Start by head down and
destroy the Ghost Vortex. See those Scrolls marked "Danger Bloodaxe!"? Those
are warnings not to enter certain areas unless you enjoy loss of Health for no
reason what-so-ever. Head right from the Vortex and open the door. Grab the
goodies and head back out and further right. Turn up at the Vortex and head
right on the lower of the two paths up there. Keep heading right and loot the
areas beyond the one-way doors. Ignore the area with the line of Scrolls for
now and head down on the left side. If you want, take a peek to the right side
of the Scroll line for a quick laugh. On the left side of the Scroll line are
two Amulets of Wall Walking. Use these quickly to reach the upper-left corner
and claim your Staff(among other things). Then just head back to the Scroll
line and follow it to the exit. Yes, there is a Slow Death Curse among them,
but you're near the exit anyway.
By the way, allow me to say "HI" back to the people at Micro Forte...;).
---Level 68 : Yin And Yang---
(Monsters : White Mages-Yang path, Green Mages-Yin Path)
Take the path leading down as this leads to Yang, the "good side". Yin's path
is filled with Fanatics, poisoned food and cursed items. And Yang is naturally
the exact opposite : No fanatics + easy to kill enemies, good food and plenty
of bonuses. Just work your way from here to the exit, snagging all you can.
---Level 69 : Yin And Yang 2---
(Monsters : Yellow Mages, Green Mages)
Start by clearing the top path, then lure the Mages up into the top parts of
their "cells". Simply shoot the Mages, then hit the Bell and run through the
"tunnel". Quickly head up and to the left. Destroy the Vortexes as you reach
them, snagging the goodies along the way. Ignore the two Bells and any Scrolls
not in your direct path. Head down, then U-Turn up to destroy the last of the
Vortexes before the one-way door to the stairs. Collect the nearby goodies and
head for the stairs to reach...
Another of Arthur's scrolls. The answer to this one is Mellack.
---Level 70 : Key For A Sword Guv?---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes...One enemy type again?)
Yes, I said "What the..." at the level name. Happy? None-the-less, this level
is a good place for a Scenario Save.
At the start, you'll notice several keys directly below you. Ignore these for
now. You can get them after you've dealt with most of the Dervishes. Head down
and kill the Dervishes in your way at the bottom. These guys are fast, so
don't be afraid to burn off a couple of Death Spells. Fortunately, they are
also pretty weak. Once clear, head up and find a Scroll that reads "A B C It's
a clue.". What it means is head left through the middle/third passage(C is the
third letter in the alphabet...) to avoid the Dervishes. Ignore the one-way
door above you and note the Chest next to the up staircase(in case you didn't
earlier). That Chest contains another Sword Of Slaying(They just looove to
give those away in this game, don't they;)?). It's also locked, hence the
reason I said to leave the keys alone for now. Open the locked door above and
destroy the Dervishes in the upper-right corner. Snag the Banquet(you'll want
the Health very soon...) and head back out. Turn left and note the ABC riddle
again. Head down the third passage and destroy the Vortex in the way. At the
bottom, immediately turn your fire to the right. Dervishes will be coming out
of the gap in-between the doors. It's tough to get a good shot for the angle
required without being hit. Use a Death Spell or just aim as best as you can.
There are two more Dervish Vortexes in the doors, but they are a little easier
to take out. Once they are all dead, track back and collect the keys you
skipped earlier. Make sure you save room for about two Death Spells you'll
get very soon. Now come back and collect your Sword before you hit the next
level.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6h. Levels 71-80
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 71 : Osmosis In Action---
(Monsters : White Ghosts...Yes, twice in a row you have one enemy type)
A very simple stage. Just head down and to the left to grab a Banquet and
Death Spell. Now head all the way to the right, dealing with all of the Ghosts
on your way to the breakable wall at the end. Once through the wall, head
straight up to find a Scare Monsters Bell. Hit it and clear the Vortexes as
you see them. Ignore the Chests for now and keep blowing up Vortexes. Hit the
Bell a second time and clear the upper section of the Ghosts' territory. Now
that the area is cleared of Vortexes, head back for the Chests. Get all of the
Chests except for the upper-right one in the group. That one contains a Slow
Death Curse. Once finished, head for the chute to exit the level.
---Level 72 : A Tenderfoots Nightmare---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes, Red Mages)
I have a feeling a good number of you turned to here first. This level has got
to be one of the top five nastiest stages in the game! Start by heading down
and to the left. When you see two Cyan Vortexes, use one of the Death Spells
you found earlier. You just killed two Dervish Vortexes! Read the Scroll down
and to the right(near the chute). See, this is where you scream. This level is
littered with Open All Doors Scrolls, meaning if you go to the wrong place at
the wrong time, you will be slaughtered! Start by heading up and collecting
the three Relics(one of each). Kill the Dervish Vortex to the right and head
back to the chute(ignoring the Scrolls for now). Head to the right and collect
the Scroll and Amulet Of Paralysis...really. After it wears off, AVOID the
one-way door! Going through a one-way door is guaranteed death right now!
Instead, use Diagonal shots to destroy the Mage Vortexes above and below you.
Once destroyed, head back to the Chute and go left. This time, collect the
first Scroll on the way to the one-way door and destroy all the Vortexes
first. Once taken care of, head back to the chute once more(yes, ignore that
Scroll for now) and take the lower-right path(below the Paralysis Amulet's
path). Destroy the two Vortexes you'll see nearby. Now take the non-door path
to the lower-left of the chute. Take out the two Vortexes along the way before
the Dervishes can ambush you. Now shoot through the wall to kill a third
Dervish Vortex. Now that the major threats are all dead, collect that Scroll
to the left of the chute that you skipped. The doors are now all open. Step
through the nearby one-way door and grab another Open All Doors Scroll.
Destroy the two Vortexes to your right and snatch the Death Spell. Head down
through the series of tiny rooms, but aim your shots carefully. You want to
open a hole just small enough so the Dervishes can't fit through. Make sure
you also take out the Dervishes to the right on your way down. Now head back
out and around to get those Wall Walking Amulets that were nearby. Use them to
enter the room directly south-east of the chute. By now, the level is pretty
much cleared of all danger and problems. Just find the remaining items and get
out of here!
---Level 73 : Reception---
(Monsters : White Dervishes...That's it)
How...mindless. This stage has a lot of staircases and a lot of Dervishes.
Just head down to the bottom-left corner and head two staircases to the right.
Take those stairs down.
---Level 74 : The Hostel---
(Monsters : White Mages, Red Mages)
Upon entering, you can jump down the chute. If you wish, you can look around
the level, but there is really no point in doing so. You should already have a
good amount of Health.
---Level 75 : The Trap!---
(Monsters : Purple Dervishes and ONE Dark Blue Ghost)
There's another Shield on this level, but there's also one on the next. You
may not NEED to explore the level, but do so anyway. There is a large amount
of treasure simply lying about. Be sure to note the Dervishes and remember
that they can suck the power right out of the Amulet, cutting your trip short.
If you want the Shield, look for a room with three Chests and a Blue Ghost in
the upper-middle section of the level. ONLY grab the left Chest of the three!
The other two contain a Paralysis Amulet and a Slow Death Curse.
When you are finished, you will get another of Arthur's scrolls. The answer to
this one is "Artifacts".
---Level 76 : Find The Ancient Artifact---
(Monsters : White Rats, Yellow Mages)
All that really is in the way here are a bunch of Mages and Rats. There's
nothing really serious about this level. The Chest you want is in a room to
the right and slightly down from your starting point(directly southeast from
the down staircase). Use a Death Spell to clear the Mages and snag it. But
please explore. The level is fairly easy and there are no trick items(besides
the Chests telling you that the Shield isn't in them).
---Level 77 : Read The Limerick First---
(Monsters : Yellow Rats, Dark Blue Ghosts)
Now here's a nice puzzle. Get the right combination of one-way doors or you
have to deal with a bunch of Blue Ghosts and Paralysis Amulets blocking your
path. You must pass through the doors that correspond to the limerick you read
at the start. I'll repeat it here with the correct "item door" in parenthesis :
"Once there was a man who felt ill(Poison),
Raced off(Extra Speed Amulet) then stood very still(Paralysis Amulet),
He tightened his belt(Warrior's Belt),
Cause he knew how it felt,
To get through without being killed!"
From the end, bust through the shootable wall on the right and head back down.
The exit isn't very far.
---Level 79 : The Friendly Snappers---
(Monsters : Cyan Snappers, Green Ghosts)
You put that brick down RIGHT NOW! I did NOT skip a level in this Walkthrough.
You skip right past level 78 to here for the moment. Also, this won't be the
last time the game does this either. Your job is to remove all of the Amulets
here. The problem is dealing with the Ghosts. Start by shooting the Snapper
directly below you...you heard me. Shoot the Snapper. Now head up and wait
until the Snappers completely block the Ghosts' Vortexes. Get the idea? Once
the Snappers have blocked all of the Ghosts, grab the Amulet. Wait until it
fades and head down. Use the two Snappers to block the Vortex below and snag
the next Amulet on the right. If you are careful, you may be able to prevent
the Vortex from activating just by standing with enough of the Vortex
off-screen. Head right and down to find your third Amulet. Repeat the tactic
and snag it. Go left and snag yet another. Keep going and find your fifth. Now
head right and up to find a shootable wall. Break it down and head further up.
Lure the Snappers into blocking the entire right wall. Grab the Banquet and go
acquire the last two Amulets in this section of the level.
---Level 78 : The Lost Level---
(Monsters : Cyan Snappers, Yellow Mages)
This place is filled with bad pick-ups. Head directly left and through one of
the doors. Kill the Snapper(s) and head up, destroying the Vortex(es) in your
path. When at the "top", use a Death Spell...it's easier than fighting the
bunch of Fanatics that will show up. Head all the way to the left and down.
Ignore the Amulet and go through the Breakable wall on your left. Take the
path leading down and to the right. Simply destroy any enemies in the way as
you head for the exit.
---Level 79 : The Friendly Snappers---
This time through, do NOT shoot the Snappers! They are fine just where they
are. Head directly up and grab the eighth Amulet. Go straight down from there
and collect your ninth Amulet below. Stand in JUST the right spot so none of
the Vortexes spawn any Ghosts, as the Snappers are useless here. Move further
right and snag your tenth. When that wears off, head back to the left and up,
taking the path with the food you skipped. DON'T use the path with the
one-way door! It simply takes you back to the first up staircase in this
level. As you head up, ignore the treasure for now. When you loop back around,
aim carefully between the Snappers. Miss and you'll be in trouble. Grab an
eleventh Amulet and keep going down to the one-way door. Now grab all of the
treasure you just skipped and head for the exit...you've gotten all of the
Paralysis Amulets!
---Level 80 : Cooperation---
(Monsters : White Rats, Green Mages)
Here's a VERY good place for a Scenario Save. You just passed a tough level
and several of the next levels aren't exactly user-friendly...
The level name was made with the idea that you would have two players. Simply
blast the Vortex with a Death Spell, then grab the Amulet and walk through to
the Bell. Ignore it until you have cleared out the passage of breakable walls.
Once clear, use the Bell and head up. Destroy all of the Vortexes and Mages
you can find WITHOUT using Death Spells(yet). Also, don't enter the room in
the lower-left for now. Once the area is clear, use a Death Spell to kill the
Rat between the one-way doors. Now, enter the lower left room and proceed to
kill all that are inside. When you reach the Amulet, grab it and start
running! You have very little time to spare if you want all of the treasure.
Head for the one-way doors where the Rat was and snag all the treasure.
Quickly head up and to the left. Go through the door near the up staircase(to
the northeast of the stairs). Go down through the keys and quickly step
through the wall at the bottom. Your trip ends at the Paralysis Amulet in the
Chest(it's okay as you don't need the Amulet anymore anyway). Just head for
the exit when you finish getting the last tidbits lying about.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6i. Levels 81-90
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 81 : Layers Within Layers---
(Monsters : Purple Dervishes, White Ghosts)
Start by using one of the Death Spells you got on the last level. Your main
job is to find your way to the lower-middle. Just avoid using keys as much as
you can and you'll be fine. Also, avoid the bell on the right side. It's an
Enrage Monsters Bell.
Okay, here's another tip. Ignore all of the Scrolls except the one next to the
Enrage Bell. Most are Slow Death Curse or else just useless.
The answer to Arthur's scroll here is "Maze".
---Level 83-85 : The Maze---
(Monsters : White Ghosts, Red Dervishes)
Save now or save never! If you wander too far into the Maze, I can no longer
help you. This thing would take me months to completely map every inch. If you
follow my EXACT instructions, then you won't risk being lost forever. Due to
the fact that you have to head through a ton of staircases to reach the end,
I'll simply place an asterisk and start a new paragraph when there's a level
change. Got it? Then let's begin! :
* Start by going west and taking the first down staircase you reach.
* Head down and take the first up staircase to the west that you can reach.
* Head down and take out the Dervish Vortex. Then enter the staircase directly
next to it.
* Move further down and enter the first down staircase you can.
* Curve around and take the other up staircase.
* Head for the next up staircase.
* Follow the path to find the up staircase to...
---Level 82 : The Treasure Vaults---
(Monsters : Purple Ghosts, Dark Blue Mages)
Woo-hoo! Welcome to the bonus round for Demon Stalkers! This level is
absolutely stocked with power-ups PLUS there are only a few enemies. Use a
Death Spell or two to kill the Ghost Vortexes and then loot the place. If you
were the slightest bit low on Spells or Health, it's taken care of here. In
this level are several Death Spells, Keys, Food, Amulets...Even a Staff Of
Life! And all throughout this level there is not ONE bad item. Once you have
made full use of this area, back-track to the beginning of the Level 83-85
walkthrough to continue.
---Level 83-85 : The Maze---
From the first staircase I mentioned for level 83...
* Head up, left and up again to the down staircase. Take the staircase on the
right side of the "room".
* Head to the right and down to the next staircase.
* Grab the Bread and Water and head for the staircase directly to the right.
* Enter the down staircase to your right.
* Just follow the path to a door until you find the stairs down to...
---Level 86 : Let Out All Your Frustrations!---
(Monsters : White Mages, Purple Ghosts)
Yee-es! Out of that horrible Maze at last! The level name is a clue of the
reward that is about to follow. Grab as many Death Spells as you can and start
blasting away! Just zap as many Vortexes as you can with each Spell and keep
moving left until every last white Mage Vortex in that box is decimated. Clear
the area of goodies and head left. Near the lower-left corner, head up before
reaching the wall. You'll find more Mage Vortexes for your apocalyptic
attitude. Snatch the treasure beyond them, then head back down and follow the
border up to the upper-left corner.
Now, you CAN use a Death Spell to eliminate the White Mage wandering around.
This will save you from dealing with the Purple Ghosts later on. However, the
Ghosts are not THAT dangerous. I suggest saving your Death Spells for later.
Trust me, you'll need them soon...
The stairs will take you to...
---Level 87 : Just Rude----
(Monsters : Red Dervishes, Cyan Mages)
Does the computer give you a raspberry? No, but this is the equivalent of
that. Start out by moving down and immediately taking out the Red Dervish
Vortex. Now, use any keys you have to open the doors that lead to the Relics.
If you are desperate for Keys, head right and destroy the onslaught of enemies
with your Death Spells from the last level. Don't touch the Enrage Bell in the
center of this trench! I think that this is a waste, however. Whether or not
you went that way, head through the door with the Invisibility Amulet. Go
down and to the left, then through the door with the mage(to your left). Kill
it and head down. Ignore the Mage Vortex and go down the path directly below
it. Go right at the bottom, kill the Dervish Vortex, its Dervishes, then grab
all the nearby treasure EXCEPT the Scroll! That's Slow Death there, pardner.
Head to the right, weaving through the doors and shooting through them at the
enemies on the other side. Blow up another three or so Vortexes, then grab the
keys if you need them. Open the two doors nearby if you need a Wand or
Belt(the Chest contains Poison). Go up from there and use a Death Spell to
clear out the three Vortexes(one Dervish Vortex on the other side of the wall
above). Move left and ignore the door. Have a large shootout with the two Mage
Vortexes along the path and keep moving. Now head up and CHARGE into the next
room! If you move fast enough, you can destroy the Dervish Vortex in the
upper-left corner before it can spawn anything. Now open the Locked Chest
nearby for a Death Spell. Finally, head right to reach the stairs...PHEW!
Another of Arthur's little parchments is waiting here. The answer he is
looking for is "Grindlewald"(You can even see the answer to the
question...Wait. Didn't we give that answer before?)
---Level 88 : Half Chance---
(Monsters : White Rats, Green Mages)
Well this level is...dull. Just don't use any Death Spells...
If you need a key to open the door, take the path leading down. There's a lot
of Mage Vortexes and Rats in the way, but there's nothing else about the
route. Either way, go through the locked door next to the stairs and follow
the path. It's just a lot of Mage Vortexes seemingly placed at random. When
you finally reach a shootable wall, break through it and get the food inside.
Then check the path that doesn't lead to the stairs to find a Banquet. Really,
there's nothing else to this level. However, it does lead to...
---Level 89 : Cruel But Fair---
(Monsters : Red Mages, Red Ghosts)
Err...ouch? This is one of the fiercest levels in the game. I was ripped apart
many times before I figured out how to even begin to survive here! Red Ghosts
and Mage Vortexes(pretty dark color in this game, actually), the Vortexes
blend in with the background making them nearly impossible to see AND the only
other Ring Of Willpower in the game as well as the exit are located here
behind multiple walls of highly Fanatical Mad Mage Vortexes...Okay? How many
of you ran screaming from the room just now? Look at the bright side. Since
they considered this level so tough, there are no "bad" items for you to
collect, meaning you should not be concerned over Slow Death and the like.
Now, let's get this show on the road.
Start by having the player with the highest Magic stat collect all of the
Scrolls in this level(probably the same player who got the Ring in level 54).
Get the rest of the goods at the start and open the door below you. Kill the
Mages and head for the upper-right corner. Have the higher Magic stat player
grab the Wand...he'll need the boost. Head left and follow the path until it
winds to a shootable wall with food behind it. Get the food and take the
right-most one-way door. Head down and aim carefully through the doors. There
are several Mage Vortexes guarding the treasure you desire. In a way, the
aiming techniques you use here are no different than in level 72. Once the
room is MOSTLY clear, pop the doors and finish off whatever remains. Have the
highest Magic stat player grab the Wand in here, then split the goodies as you
see fit. The two chests next to the rightmost one-way door contain Gold and
Jewels, nothing else. After this room is empty, head left and pop the doors in
the next room. Kill all of the Ghosts and loot the room. Now, have the highest
Magic stat user place his finger on the Death Spell key...things are about to
get ugly. Through the nearby shootable wall are over 30 Mad Mage Vortexes, all
with a high Fanaticism rate. Also, there are several Ghost Vortexes thrown in
just for the kicks. Start by shooting the wall and moving forward. Every few
newly-explored inches on the screen, fire off another Death Spell. There are
plenty of Scrolls lying around in this area and you should use a lot of them.
Just keep firing Death Spell after Death spell until you find the exit hiding
in the upper-left corner...BUT WAIT! Go directly to the right of the exit. See
that chest against the wall? That's the other Ring Of Willpower! We wouldn't
want to leave without that, now would we?
---Level 90 : Advice---
(Monsters : Purple Snappers, Dark Blue Dervishes)
This is the last suggested point for a Scenario Save...and it comes highly
recommended! Level 89 is such a pain.
Breathing easier now? Well, you should have all of the Artifacts now. To start
this level off, shoot the Dervish to your right, then collect both scrolls.
Either path leads to the exit. Just...if you don't really need the Relics,
don't bother. The Snappers here have really high health and aren't worth
fighting. You'll find plenty of Stat enhancing equipment in the next few
levels, anyway. Also, ignore ALL chests in this level! One Scroll hints at the
dangers within them : "The Chests are part of Calvraks luggage". Just pick
your way along and find the Stairs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6j. Levels 91-94 : Arthur's Tower
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 91 : Arthurs Tower ... The Workroom---
(Monsters : Green Snappers, Red Mages)
---Level 92 : Arthurs Tower ... The Treasure Room---
(Monsters : Cyan Dervishes, Purple Mages)
---Level 93 : Arthurs Tower ... The Library---
(Monsters : Green Mages, White Ghosts)
There isn't much to do on these three levels right now except going down the
stairs set in front of you.
You'll be given another one of Arthur's scrolls to answer here. The correct
response to it is "Workroom".
---Level 94 : Arthurs Tower ... The Kitchens---
(Monsters : Dark Blue Rats, White Mages)
This is your last chance to truly power up. The four levels that represent
Arthur's Tower contain a ton of items, ranging from rooms of Banquets to
Relics and Artifacts to corridors filled with Death Scrolls. The trick is
finding out what leads where as well as where to begin. Also, every level has
Mad Mages and one of the other types of monster. If you think you are already
powered-up enough to face Calvrak, just head down and follow the Rats' Grates
to find the stairs to Level 95, then skip ahead to that level's walkthrough.
If you would like to gather all that you can find here, however, then read on.
All right, for those who decided to stay, I present the paths in "quest
format". In other words, I will tell you which paths lead where. I will also
list them in the order I believe is the best to follow. You can take them
however you prefer, though. The Quests are as follows(you may Copy and Find to
reach them faster) :
Quest 1 - Raiding the Pantry
Quest 2 - Artificial Gains
Quest 3 - Furrowfoots Bells
Quest 4 - Death Spell Bound
Optional Quest 5 - Relic Overstock
Quest 6 - Last Dash For The Storage Room
***Quest 1 - Raiding the Pantry***
First, you might be a little low on Health from Level 89. Start by taking the
other Up stairs to Level 93. Now, nab the scrolls lying around(though most of
them are just messages...), then go right. Rid the area of the Mage Vortexes
and take the Chute nearby. Ignore the scrolls around it for now. Once down the
Chute, follow the path to find even more Mage Vortexes. Move past them to find
a gigantic corner of the level...filled with more than 20 delicious food items!
Fill up and head for the one-way door. Keep to the left to find your way back
to the stairs. Quest 1 complete!
***Quest 2 - Artificial Gains***
Not the most important of the set(especially with all of the monsters
involved), but it's something to do, regardless. Take the Up stairs all the
way to level 91. Move down from there and find Arthur's plant laboratory. Go
right from there to find some amulets and food. Head back out and up. Kill the
Snappers blocking the treasure and collect it for yourself(lot of stuff). Keep
following the route, but beware the multitude of Vortexes in your path. Enter
the treasure room in the lower-right corner and slaughter the Mages. Collect
the booty and go through the one-way door. Destroy the Mages here and collect
the Chest on the left to find the last Sword Of Slaying, then enter the Chute.
Once back at level 92, collect the few goodies in the small room, including
the Magical Shield in the Chest, and ready any Death Spells you may have. Go
left and destroy six highly-Fanatical Mage Vortexes. If you have two players,
have each one concentrate on one "row". Once you are clear, the second Quest
is complete. Head directly up to find the stairs.
***Quest 3 - Furrowfoots Bells***
Head back for level 92. Go straight down from the stairs to the bottom of the
level. From there, go right. Collect the chests along the way, but be aware of
the Dervish Vortex along the way. Go through the one-way door and tap the
topmost Bell(Time Stop). Once at level 93, move up and hit the rightmost
Bell(Summoning) and dive for the Chute once more. Now in Level 94, head up and
ring the Bell on the left(Fear). Go left from there and find another room with
food, albeit not as much as in Quest 1. Nab it all and head left to complete
Quest 3.
***Quest 4 - Death Spell Bound***
This Quest is beyond easy. Head for Level 93 and have the highest Magic Stat
player take the top-most one-way door. Every Scroll along this path is a Death
Spell. Ignore the other paths, as they are either filled with useless(Open All
Doors + Score Bonus) or deadly(Slow Death Curse). That's all there is to it.
***Optional Quest 5 - Relic Overstock***
You don't have to take this quest...in fact, I don't see the point in doing
so. By the time you take this quest, you will probably have pretty high Stats.
But, if your greed is that forceful, you can take this quest and satisfy your
treasure-grabbing instincts. Grab the Keys to the right of the stairs on level
94 and then head back up to Level 91. Go down and to the right. See the four
Chutes? Pick any of them to reach level 92. From there, open any Chests you
please. You shouldn't have trouble finding your way back to 94 from here.
***Quest 6 - Last Dash For The Storage Room***
I saved this one for last because it ends right next to the stairs for Level
95. Start by going back to 91 once more. From there, head left and to the
lower-left corner of the level. Go through the one-way door, destroy the
Vortexes and collect the Extra Speed Amulets. Dive down the Chute to reach
Level 92. Ignore the little treasure here and head straight down to the next
Chute. Take the center path of the three on Level 93 and fall down one more
Chute. Once on Level 94, run straight down and ignore the Mage Vortexes. Go
through the one-way door. Now, head to the left and destroy the lone Mage
Vortex at the end. You may now collect the food here at your leisure...and
grab the chest containing another Staff Of Life! This concludes all of the
"Quests" for Arthur's Tower. Head for the stairs to reach...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6k. Levels 95-99
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 95 : In The Spotlight---
(Monsters : Yellow Dervishes, Dark Blue Mages)
Back on track now? This stage is actually beyond easy. Pop the Vortex in the
upper-left corner, then follow it to a small cache of stuff(and a few
enemies...). Track back to the stairs and destroy the lower-left Vortex.
Follow that path to another Vortex. Pop that and take the upper-left path.
Clear the route and destroy one last Vortex at the end(careful as Dervishes
can come out of this one easily). Take the upper-right path and then have both
players pick one of the one-way doors. That's it...
---Level 96 : The Hall Of Doors---
(Monsters : Purple Dervishes, White Ghosts)
Ummm...Do you REALLY need help with this level?...Oooookay...
Start by using a couple of Death Spells to clear out the Dervish Vortexes,
then head up and collect the keys. Read the scroll, collect a couple more
keys, then pop as many doors as you can. Really, there are too many doors to
worry about "saving keys" and you don't really need them anymore. If you still
wish to hold on to them, then use the Surrender command(you will probably need
to anyway...unless you saved a bunch of Keys from the previous levels).
---Level 97 : Mellacks Prison---
(Monsters : Green Dervishes and ONE Dark Blue Mage...he had it coming...)
Well, this is a nasty change of pace. Hordes of Dervishes are around every
corner, anxious to steal what few keys you can find here. Thankfully, you
don't need that many. Kill the Dervishes at the entrance and follow the route
reach the "key vault". Snag the keys and go straight down from the vault. Only
head down, do not turn left or right until you hit bottom. Clear the two
Dervish Vortexes on the right, then continue WITHOUT touching any Chests! Wait
until you pass by two more Chests and have cleared all Dervishes. Then
back-track and collect the keys inside. Go back to the set of doors just past
the vertical corridor, and go right, right, up, up(you may head right three
times first if you have the extra key). Take out all Dervishes that are NOT
behind doors. Then, open the lower-right corner to the exit. Before you leave,
you may seek out any treasure you wish for now. You won't need the keys later.
---Level 98 : The Mages Maze---
(Monsters : White Rats, Red Mages)
Another Maze? Don't worry. This one is one of the simplest of the bunch. Start
by heading up along the corridor. Break through the first shootable wall below
you NOT counting the wall near the entrance! Follow the long path from there
and you are at the stairs to...
---Level 99 : The Dark---
(Monsters : Cyan Snappers, Yellow Mages)
I don't care if it's with a Scenario Save or not...SAVE NOW! You are NOT
allowed to save on Level 100...or even pause!
Done now? Okay, start by heading up and across the top. Collect the two keys
along there, then head down. Notice the closest shootable wall and break it
open. Kill the pair of Mages inside, then take the Food and Scrolls...You see,
you cannot leave this level until you have found all of the Scrolls. Go
straight across and through the passage below the shootable wall on your
right. Once in the lower-right corner, collect the Scrolls there. Head back
out and up to the shootable wall you skipped. Break through and watch your
fire. Miss a Mage and you will have a horde of Snappers after you. Get the
Scroll and Food in the back, then head all the way down. Collect the Death
Scroll and head left through another shootable wall. Kill the few Mages near
the lower-left corner and collect the two Scrolls above them. Now, if you
truly need Health, use your Death Spells to kill the Mages in the rooms near
the top-right and bottom-right corners(those Vortexes are HIGHLY Fanatical!).
Otherwise, pass through the one-way door near the Chute and head straight up.
Collect the two remaining Scrolls and then head back...for the final battle.
One last chance at a bonus from Arthur's scrolls. The correct answer is
"Yes"(Can I have a 'DUH!', please?).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6l. Level 100
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---Level 100 : The Ultimate Confrontation---
(Monsters : Calvrak!)
This is why your items are useless. There are no doors to open, so keys are
void of purpose. As for your Death Spells, you are not allowed to use them.
Calvrak's wings can be heard the moment you arrive on the level. He fires off
bolts of lightning towards you that can cause 600-800 damage per shot to a
fully-armored character! Even worse, he is immortal as long as his "sources of
power" are intact. Luckily, he does have weak points. For one, there are
several passages that Calvrak cannot fit through. Use these to regain your
senses after you run(and you will). Also, when he takes enough damage, he will
retreat for a moment to regenerate at his Pentangle(a large black-colored star
in the middle of the Level). This will give you an opportunity to hunt down
his power sources. As you destroy the sources, he will take longer and longer
to regenerate...Oh right, his power sources are the five Vortexes scattered
throughout the level. Now for the strategy :
Start by destroying the Vortex you can see when you start the level. Calvrak
should appear immediately afterwards. Run to the right past him and into
either of the small passages above. The top-most one contains a Staff Of Life.
Grab it should you need it. The other passage leads on a path to the bottom of
the level and contains several Food items, as well as two Extra Speed Amulets.
From the Extra Speed passage, stand on the "rock" that is near the lower-left
exit. Face diagonally south-west and fire at Calvrak. If you cannot hit him,
move out to the left a little and "lure" him up. You'll know you are hitting
him if he flashes red with your shots. Once he runs off, get out of the exit
and head along the top of the level(about aligned with that first Vortex you
blew up). In the corner is another Vortex. Blow it up and return to the rock.
Head through the passage and out the upper-right exit. There's a Vortex just
to the right of it. Destroy it before Calvrak can get close. Head back for
the lower-left exit in the passage and damage Calvrak once more. Now, follow
Calvrak as he runs off this time. There is a Vortex very close to his
Pentangle just begging to be destroyed. Do NOT touch the Amulet nearby! It's
Paralysis and Calvrak will most likely kill you before you recover. From that
position, head left and find the final Vortex, right near a set of Stairs.
Blow that last one up and run straight down and to the left. Return to the
rock and shoot at Calvrak once more. If you got all five, he will explode,
allowing you to take any treasure that remains. Celebrate, then take the
stairs to...
---Level 101 : The Ultimate Confrontation---
(Monsters : None)
Relax! That was the final boss. This level is here merely to provide an
epilogue for the events after Calvrak's destruction. It also contains Arthur's
final message. Enjoy the text and the fact that you toppled this mighty
foe...Congratulations!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Editor
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are the Marble Vaults taking too much of a toll? Or perhaps things are boring
after you have beaten Calvrak for the eighth time? Or maybe you think that the
Marble Vaults construction was a tad shoddy?...
Enter the Demon Stalkers Editor. With this tool, you can make your own set of
99 levels for other players to challenge...or perhaps to try yourself. Create
messages for the player to heed or ignore. Make traps that would challenge
Arthur himself. Let your imagination run free!
Of course, you still need to know how to use it. First, use the Joystick to
move the hand around. While it is not on a menu bar item(up top), the item
selection menu(left half) or the "creation box", you may hold the fire button
down and push the stick to move the box to another point in the level. When
the hand is touching the edges of the box(you will see them glow green), you
may press and hold the fire button, then press left or right to select the
wall-type you wish to put there(One-Way Door, Locked Door, Regular or
Shootable Walls). If it is in the center of the box and you hold the fire
button, you can place any object or monster there by pushing the stick left
or right. You can do the same if you press the button on the objects on the
left side of the screen or by using the shortcut keys(See Shortcut Keys for
the listing).
You also have a wide variety of menu items to change the level to fit your
tastes. They are as follows :
---Options Menu---
Colours : Press and hold the button, then move the stick left or right to
change the overall color of the level.
Tiles : Similar to Colours. This changes the level's floor pattern.
Level Title : Name(or rename) a Level as you see fit.
Monster 1 : Use this to edit the health, speed, strength and type of one of
the two monster types in the level. Just press and hold the fire button on the
trait you wish to change, then push left or right to change it.
Monster 2 : Take a wild guess.
Set Goals : This will allow you to force a player to collect all of a specific
item-type before being allowed to leave the stage. You can set it so the
player must collect all Artifacts, Scrolls, Amulets, Chests, Relics, any
combination of the above or none at all.
Random Items : Completely randomizes which items are available every time the
player plays a New Game. In other words, the Chest with the Sword may not
always be there when you want it.
Wrap-Around : Allows the player to exit the right/top edge of the level and
wind up on the left/bottom and vice versa.
Editor Sound : Allows you to hear beeps when you change things around.
Play Level : Allows you to see how your level works without having to play
through your entire set. Of course, it will be as if you had started a New
Game from that Level.
Play Game : Returns you to the main menu.
---Clear Menu---
Restore : Returns the level's state to the form it had the last time you used
the Preserve command. Helps if you make a massive change and don't like it
later.
Preserve : Saves the current state of the level without actually saving it to
disk, so you can avoid truly screwing up either way. Also, the Editor
automatically uses the Preserve command when you playtest the level.
Clear Level : Wipes the entire level clean and sets everything back to the
defaults.
---View---
Allows you to get a quick view over your level, without actually having to
play it.
---Disk---
Set Level : Allows you to change the level number.
Save Level : Saves all changes for the current level to diskette.
Load Level : Loads the last save for the current level number. Caution as it
will overwrite any changes you have made to the level you are currently
working on.
Format Disk : Formats the current disk into a Scenario Disk.
---Object Menus---
Some items have multiple set-up selections that need to be set before placing
the object. These include :
Food Menu : Select Bread And Water, Elf Cakes, Banquet or Poison to set the
specific food there.
Scroll Menu :
Scroll A, B or C - Sets one of three message Scrolls in that place. You will
also have to enter the text for the Scroll if you have not done so already.
Death Spell, Slow Death Curse, Score Bonus, Open All Doors - Places the
appropriate Scroll there for the player to pick up.
Relic Menu : Select Helm Of Defense, Warriors Belt or Magicians Wand to place
that Relic.
Amulet Menu : Select Wall-Walking, Invisibility, Extra Speed or Paralysis to
place the Amulet.
Bell Menu : Select Time Stop, Confusion, Summoning, Fear or Enrage to place a
Bell in the level.
Chest Menu :
Locked - Check this mark to make the player require a Key before opening the
Chest.
Treasure - Select this to have the Chest contain Gold And Jewels.
Other items : Just select the appropriate item to have it inside the Chest.
Mad Mage Vortex Menu : Hold the fire button then push the stick left or right
to change the Fanaticism rate(how often a Fanatical Mad Mage comes out of the
Vortex). You can have it vary from zero(no Fanatics) to seven(almost only
Fanatics).

8. Notes Of Interest
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* There was actually another version of this game for the PC in an EGA DOS
format. It was tougher thanks to the fact that the PC was a higher speed
machine, thus allowing the monsters to zip after your character(Imagine the
lowly White Rats being lethal). Also because of the color constraints, darker
monsters did not always mean more damage. Other things were changed, from the
graphics(Calvrak's Pentangle now resembles a red Pentagram, you can tell the
difference between a locked and open Chest by looking at it, etc.) to the
levels themselves(the first few levels were completely changed, "Cruel But
Fair" is not in this version, etc.). Try it out if you truly want a challenge!
* The five warriors who came before you(Arthur, Bloodaxe, Furrowfoot, Imelda
and Grindlewald) are credited in Level 101 as being Playtesters...
* Yes, my ASCII art in this walkthrough is of two Keys and a Death Spell.
* The largest picture on the back of the Demon Stalkers package/folder(the one
with the blue background of the level with several White Ghosts) is actually
not included in EITHER version of the game!
* Level 42 is an obvious reference to the comedic novel/show, "The
Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". In the book, the human race created a super
computer that gave the answer to 'life, the universe and everything', and that

10. Credits
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where would we be without them:)? I would like to thank/credit the following :
* Electronic Arts and Micro Forte, for the design of such an outstanding game.
* GameFAQs, of whom first hosted this FAQ.
* My mom, who lead us safely through Furrowfoot's Maze and played a 2-player
game with me to the end.:)
* My uncle, for being the first one in our family to beat Level 89, Cruel But
Fair(we couldn't have made it through without you).
* Kalrac, for mentioning he was stuck in a level(no better inspiration;))
* My Discman(something to keep me sane for a while...)
* My sister and my friend down the block, for putting up with me discussing
this game for half my life.

10. Copyright
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time for this again? All right.
Once again, I implore you NOT to rob, steal, butcher, etc., etc. this FAQ. You
can steal much better...err, I mean I will make you very sorry. Remember the
mentioning of possible other evils in the Earth? Well, by breaking the
copyright, you will unleash a demon that will devastate the world and leave
nothing but a burning husk in space...and that would ruin all of your profits,
wouldn't it? Let me also add these words, if you don't believe what I just
said :
"This may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal,
private use. It may not be placed on any web site or otherwise distributed
publicly without advance written permission. Use of this guide on any other
web site or as a part of any public display is strictly prohibited, and a
violation of copyright."
All clear now? If you want this on your site for any particular reason, just
let me know before-hand and we can talk. Okay?
