Webmastering Class

Course Description

In this course, students will learn technology-related terminology as well
as specific skills with web and image editing software. Students will also
utilize both server and client-side applications, and will learn the
basics of how networks and the World Wide Web function. The course offers
a hands-on approach to learning with a strong focus on collaboration
through utilization of a variety of Web 2.0 tools.

Course Objectives

Students, upon completion of this course, will be able to...

1. Use both simple and advanced image editing software to create and
modify digital images of various types.
2. Use both simple and advanced web page editing software to create and modify HTML documents.
3. Utilize web based templates to create and modify HTML content.
4. Utilize web based tools to communicate and collaborate with others in order to share information, solve problems, and to create products.
5.Understand the history of the development on the Internet, the World Wide Web, and related technologies.
6. Comprehend and use in written and verbal communication a wide variety of technology-related terminology.
7. Utilize a wide variety of hardware to capture still and video images as well as audio..
8. Utilize a wide variety of software to create, modify, and publish video and audio content.

Course Schedule:

Course introduction (Discussion of syllabus, class rules, procedures) 1 day
Introduction to computer hardware and networking protocols (1 week)

Advanced Image and Web Page Editing (6 weeks)

Participation Guidelines:

Students are required to create and respond to posts in the class
discussion forum on a semi-weekly basis. Scores for posts are based on
form as well as the substance of the information. Students are also
required to communicate via email and other tools with classmates, the
course instructor, as well as school faculty members with which they will
be working.
