A few caveats. I’m not Catholic, nor am I an expert on religion or Catholicism. I’m just an observer.
Pope Francis was the first pope to be a Jesuit, the first from Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere, and the first born or raised outside Europe since the 8th-century Syrian pope Gregory III.
Pope Leo XIV or Robert Francis Prevost
What does all of this mean? Despite many claims by others, we don’t really know. Speculations have been as noted in the wiki description above he will continue in the path of Pope Francis. Time will tell. It does appear that the U.S. religious right’s perspective was to brand him as “woke’, and Marxist.
Here Stonekettle’s take on that take.
View on Threads Marxist Pope. Marxism. A fundamentally atheist ideology. Stay in school, Kids. Seriously. So what will Pope Leo XIV bring to the papacy? That’s TBD. But I doubt it will be what many or most of the conservative American Catholic Bishops will be jumping for joy about. Pope Leo XIV may have been born in the U.S., but from what this non Catholic observer can tell his world view is far from U.S.A. centric. And that will drive many on the American Christian Right crazy, and I’m all in for that. Also remember, many evangelical Christians don’t even consider Catholics real Christians.
History of the Order of Saint Augustine via wiki.
