Tuesday 4/22 edition of Dems, Dems and more Dems... [1]
['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']
Date: 2025-04-22
A big welcome to all of you who are new to this series, which I publish Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This series is born out of frustration with seeing people on social media and this site say, “Where are the Dems?” or “What are the Dems doing?” This is not meant as an exhaustive list, but merely as a highlight of the types of the activities and statements they’re doing and making.
Please, before you complain about the party, take a few minutes of time to see if your concerns are being addressed.
I also encourage EVERYONE to check out the following diary series. lpeacock does Thursday diaries on the Congressional Black Caucus. Dfh1 is doing a Monday and Friday series that spotlight individual Democrats. T2 has also just begun a series called the Rainbow Roundup, where focus is placed on LGBTQ lawmakers and journalists. And Billboteach has one focusing on Hispanic elected Democrats.
You can gain easy access to all these diaries by following the Democratic Party Spotlight Group.

Let’s get started with the return of a big issue that puts our national security at risk — the idiocy of Pete Hegseth. Normally I use titles when acknowledging government officials, but he doesn’t deserve that level of respect.
x Secretary of Defense is too critical of a role to be done by someone this incompetent. — Mark Warner (@MarkWarner) April 21, 2025
x Pete Hegseth was always unqualified and should have never been confirmed.
The dysfunction at the Pentagon and his missteps, including reckless handling of classified info, are making America less safe.
The Secretary of Defense must resign or be fired.
https://t.co/VcbiesbVlG — Rep. Jason Crow (@RepJasonCrow) April 21, 2025
x Pete Hegseth NEVER should have been confirmed as Secretary of Defense.
Anyone with an ounce of respect for our military would have resigned weeks ago.
What the f*ck else do we need to see for Trump to do what’s best for our troops and our country and FIRE HIM?!?
https://t.co/kuh0umfk9Q — Pat Ryan 🇺🇸 (@PatRyanUC) April 20, 2025
x Just one month in, @PeteHegseth has turned the Pentagon into “hell”—from targeting whistleblowers to leaking war plans in a SECOND Signal chat.
Who could’ve guessed a scandal-plagued DUI hire from Fox News might be a disaster as Secretary of Defense?
Oh right—everyone.
https://t.co/XpXqNFzAdN — Rep. Jimmy Gomez (@RepJimmyGomez) April 21, 2025
x It was clear from the start that Hegseth was incompetent, and his incompetence would make all of us less safe. Especially those that serve in the military.
The question is when will Republicans finally call for him to be gone. — Tina Smith (@SenTinaSmith) April 21, 2025
x Your skid marks are showing. @SecDef Hegseth was unqualified for confirmation, and proving unfit to serve. Your gaslighting puts our troops and national security at risk. #ResignNowSecDef
https://t.co/yYNB6bIzRo — Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (@RepStricklandWA) April 21, 2025
x In March, I warned there could be more Signal chats from Secretary Hegseth detailing classified information to unauthorized people.
The new revelations are worse than I imagined.
America’s safety is at risk with him at the helm of the Pentagon, and he must resign. pic.twitter.com/9sanU9P3dz — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (@CongressmanRaja) April 21, 2025
x Pete Hegseth was unqualified from the start. Each day he continues to prove just how dangerous and unfit he is to serve as Secretary of Defense and keep our country safe. It’s past time he resign, and each day Republicans remain silent puts American families at risk. — Senator Ron Wyden (@wyden.senate.gov) April 21, 2025 at 5:06 PM
x Chaos. Incompetence. National security leaks.
Hegseth has got to go. Period. — Rep. Melanie Stansbury (@Rep_Stansbury) April 21, 2025
x If Pete Hegseth was serious about turning our military into a meritocracy, he would be packing up his office and turning in his resignation letter immediately.
He has put American service members’ lives in danger by sharing highly classified information in at least two… — Rep. Mikie Sherrill (@RepSherrill) April 21, 2025
x Pete Hegseth's arrogance and recklessness continue to endanger our servicemembers, our country, and our national security.
He never should have been confirmed and he should be removed before he causes even more damage. — Senator Mazie Hirono (@maziehirono) April 21, 2025
x Secretary Hegseth continues to demonstrate that he is not up to the task of leading our armed forces. Every day it becomes more clear that his leadership puts Georgia servicemembers at risk and threatens all of our safety.
He must resign.
https://t.co/SkT2UaIEpp — Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (@SenatorWarnock) April 21, 2025
x Hegseth has GOT to go.
He’s an embarrassment and a threat to our national security.
If he doesn’t resign, he needs to be fired. pic.twitter.com/rNP4rOIKkO — Nanette D. Barragán (@RepBarragan) April 21, 2025
Democrats doing Democratic things…
x Frmr Ambassador, Senator, Congressman, Attorney General and all around outstanding New Mexican Tom Udall in attendance ystdy at the historic investiture in Aztec of 11th Judicial District Judge Brianna Clani-Washinawatok, the first Native American to hold that position. Congratulations, your Honor.

x The so-called Department of Government Efficiency is cutting the Department of Veterans Affairs to the bone, taking away critical resources from our nation’s heroes. I’m proud to stand with @blumenthal.senate.gov to talk about these cruel cuts and how Democrats are fighting for our vets.
[image or embed] — Chuck Schumer (@schumer.senate.gov) April 19, 2025 at 1:41 PM
x You can ignore climate change. But it doesn’t ignore you. These insurance spikes were not only foreseeable, but foreseen. States didn’t act, and now the cost is being borne by the most vulnerable. It will get much worse. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

x Kristy and her daughter Sadie rely on Medicaid to treat Sadie's cancer. If Republicans in Washington make cuts to Medicaid, these are the Nevadans who are going to be hurt the most. And for what? To give billionaires more tax cuts? It's despicable.
I'm in awe of Kristy's (cont in image...)

x Pete Hegseth’s use of Signal for military planning risks national security – and it could also easily violate federal laws requiring those communications to be documented.
I am urging the NARA to investigate whether the Trump administration is complying with its reporting requirements.

Townhalls and community events.
x Transparency, accessibility, and accountability are values that have guided my work in Congress since day one. This Thursday in DeKalb County, I’m hosting another town hall to update you on what’s going on in Washington. RSVP here to attend! www.eventbrite.com/e/rep-underw...

x ATTN #RI02 Residents: Our constituent services team will be holding office hours April 24th at 2PM at the Cranston Public Library. If you need help with a federal agency or have questions, stop by—our team is here to help!
[image or embed] — Representative Seth Magaziner (@magaziner.house.gov) April 21, 2025 at 4:35 PM
x My next town hall is tomorrow at 7 PM in Cherry Hill. Looking forward to hearing from neighbors in Camden County and talking through a lot of what's on our minds right now for NJ and our country. pic.twitter.com/8FwecqMJck — Senator Andy Kim (@SenatorAndyKim) April 21, 2025
x I stood in Rockland County—Rep. Mike Lawler’s home turf—with seniors, families, and nurses who will be devastated by Trump's cuts to Medicaid.
Rep. Lawler knows he and his fellow Republicans could stop these cuts if they wanted.
But he’s refusing to stand up for New Yorkers. pic.twitter.com/lC6vE60mCA — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) April 21, 2025
x Always enjoy fielding questions from Chandler Chamber entrepreneurs! Most of our conversation last week focused on Trump's on-again, off-again tariffs. Here's the bottom line: chaos and uncertainty are bad for businesses and workers. This senseless trade war has to stop.
[image or embed] — Rep. Greg Stanton (@repgregstanton.bsky.social) April 21, 2025 at 5:11 PM
This is such a great call. Take a couple of minutes to listen to it. Also a good reminder that constituent duties are still an important part of the role of our members of Congress.
x “Isn’t that outrageous?”
Ms. Moore has worked in public education for decades.
She called my office concerned about Trump and Musk wanting to cut Social Security.
Here’s what she told me when I called her back: pic.twitter.com/GO2JxU56kS — Congressman Greg Casar (@RepCasar) April 21, 2025
Protests and protest signs.
