This morning a building in Hartford, Connecticut was raided by MAGA enforcers. The building had been the local Headquarters of the resistance movement and the hiding place of former Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Jasmine Crocket. A year ago, they were forced to go underground after congress passed the EXTRAORDINARY PRESIDENTIAL POWERS ACT, and the FBI declared them to be terrorists. Since then, the two former representatives had been publishing resistance literature and conducting clandestine podcasts to support resistance movements across the country. The Trump administration had been tirelessly pursuing them as “radical leftists.”
When MAGA enforcers entered the building this morning at 5:30 am, gunfire erupted as the resistance fighters attempted to make a break out. The ensuing battle lasted for nearly five hours and only ended when a number of the resisters were killed or badly wounded, including the two representatives. Eyewitnesses suggest that several MAGA enforcers were also wounded and killed in the battle, but the FBI has not confirmed it yet.
Our sources indicate that in the weeks before the raid, the former congresswomen reached out to moderate Democrats who were permitted by the Trump administration to remain in congress because they promised to cooperate on on a number of upcoming legislative initiatives.
This evening, Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand went on Fox News to explain why they disclosed the location of the headquarters to the FBI.
Senator Schumer: “It gives me no pleasure to have had to do this, but the Trump administration was threatening mass punishment if we did not help them in pursuit of resistance members. The pain caused by the planned mass door-to-door raids of our cities by MAGA enforcers would have been unbearable. It was an extremely difficult choice, but I had to protect our citizens.”
Senator Gillibrand added: “We advised members of the resistance to turn themselves in for the benefit of everyone. I wish they had just surrendered to the MAGA enforcers.”
Neither senator was available to comment for this story, but Senator Hickenlooper of Colorado was quoted in the New York Times as saying that several of the remaining Democratic members of congress were relieved by the outcome. They had great concerns about the damage the resistance could cause.
President For Life Trump in an evening address to the nation expressed gratitude for the collaboration of the Democrats, but suggested that this is just the beginning and that Democrats will need to help a lot more in rounding up “the terrorists” as former congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have not yet been apprehended.
****I wrote this satirical diary, initially because I was so angry at Chuck Schumer’s capitulation. I wanted to compare it real events that happened during the Nazi occupation of Europe. In real life, people who were not Nazi collaborators turned in resistance fighters because they honestly thought their actions were causing more damage than helping. Fear of mass punishments and Nazi reprisals even led some resistance members to turn their peers in. These occurrences were not always so cut and dry evil or good. Senator Schumer’s defense of his choice made me think about it some more.
Operation Anthropoid is a good example of the complexity of such actions. The mission was to assassinate Heydrich, who had been one of the main architects of the Final Solution. Many within the Chech resistance were concerned such an operation would do more harm than good. Just after the assassination attempt occurred, members of the resistance turned in their peers with the idea that it may help dampen the Nazi reprisals. It did not work. While Hendrich died, the population suffered greatly. This leads to the question of whether it was worth it or not.
I think our situation right now is a bit more straight forward. Our leaders are facing something more like what Winston Churchill faced in 1940. I just wish that Schumer had taken to the senate floor last week with the words:
“We will fight them in the halls of congress, we will fight them in the streets, we will fight them with growing strength and growing confidence in the courts!
We will defend our democracy, whatever the cost may be
We shall never surrender!”
But it is my nature to put up a fight, even if it may well be a lost cause
