Thursday GNR: Yanking Their Chains [1]
['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']
Date: 2025-02-13
The Stunt Man’s minions are flailing madly, imposing performative kayfabe on the nation in all directions. We are pushing back in court, where we have a continuous string of wins, but also out in public, where we have all of the good lines of hilarious attack.
I am not going to list the meshugas, but I cannot pass over 😡🤦 the demand to go in with Putin on dismantling Ukraine 🤦😡, and 😂👉 the claim that the evidence that an asylum seeker is a member of a criminal gang to be sent to Guantanamo is a tattoo of Michael Jordan. 👈😂. They demand that every one of their Heels is a Face, and that every Face in defense of Democracy is a Heel of the worst order. Kash Patel has admitted and also vigorously denied involvement in child slave labor in China. Food and medicine aid to the world is rotting on the docks. But enough of that. There are plenty of places where you can follow all of that.
As W. S. Gilbert put it in The Mikado,
Apologetic statesmen of a compromising kind
Such as — What d'ye call him — Thing'em-bob,
And likewise — Never-mind,
And 'St— 'st— 'st— and What's-his-name,
And also You-know-who —
The task of filling up the blanks I'd rather leave to you.
But it really doesn't matter whom you put upon the list,
For they'd none of 'em be missed — they'd none of 'em be missed!
Just remember that they are also Losers, who consider being a crook or a total loony to be among the highest qualifications for office.
Actual Good News
It occurred to me that I should check which of our usual sources is on Bluesky, and make a list of them so you can follow them all at once. Also a feed that will serve up all of their posts in a clear, unpolluted stream. This is what I found. I’ll see about that list soon.
Science! Lifeforms! Weirdness!
x This is a “Reindeer Cyclone”. A swirling mass of threatened reindeer stampeding in a circle making it impossible to target an individual. The weakest and fawns are in the middle..

The DK elves are continuing to work on embedding Bluesky videos so they play here and you don’t have to click through.
x Amateur astronomer here. I had to look up radio galaxies -> synchrotron process to better understand what I was seeing, which made it cooler. So then I donated to Wikimedia, because we should. 🔭 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_g...

x There's a total lunar eclipse on March 13-14. Lunar eclipse photography is much easier than solar eclipse BUT you can make it even easier with some automation. Check out my video on the eclipse & the LETnC Software: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqJY... #LunarEclipse #Astronomy #astrophotography #Space

x The Astronomy feeds now include 11 (!!!) brand new specific subfeeds! 🔭 The subfeeds try to cover every part of astronomy research with at least one feed. All subfeeds automatically crosspost to the main Astronomy feed, too! Here's a thread with links to all of them ⬇️ — Astronomy Feeds News (@astronomy.blue) September 12, 2024 at 11:15 AM
Too many for me, but feel free to follow all of them that you like, and post goodies in the comments here.

When you swim in the sea & an eel bites your knee
That’s a moray If it swims on the reef
& has 2 sets of teeth
That’s a moray If it feeds in the dark
& eats crabs for a lark
That’s a moray If it seems yellow but’s green
& it hates to be seen
That’s a moray ❤️ 🎵

x In response to the emergence of H5N1 influenza A viruses as a novel pathogen of cattle, a study in Nature Communications shows that pasteurisation of cows’ milk should effectively inactivate the virus, but that it remains infectious in unpasteurised milk.

Here are more silly Blueskyers who won’t allow their posts to be embedded. So I have to copy and past the text, open the link, and download and upload the images, or possibly ignore them.
The researchers found that their approach, which uses signals stored within circulating cell-free DNA sequence data, had 80% sensitivity at predicting whether a pregnant individual would experience preterm preeclampsia or not. #ReproSky #ObGynSky #Preeclampsia 🧪newsroom.uw.edu/news-release...

x People who know better think they're going to get Trump 1 with more anti trans kayfabe and instead what they're going to get is the American Ragnarok

Dill Piccolo
With help from Bernard "Weird Beard", I managed to get myself a actual dill piccolo! This is actually a whistle that is in the shape of a piccolo that was given away as a Burger King Prize. P.D.Q. Bach uses the instrument in his Little Pickle Book (Ger: Pockelbuchlein)
I can’t choose only one version of the Little List song from The Mikado.
WARNING: The original racist and misogynistic lyrics are utterly non-PC. But that is entirely in character for medieval Japan and Victorian England.
