Senator Mike Lee

361 A Russell Senate Office Building - Washington, DC 20510

Phone: 202-224-5444 - FAX: 202-228-1168 – 801-524-5730

Senator Lee;

Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 ominously parallels Adolph Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939.

Moreover, the excuses and justifications made by many congressional Republicans in 2023 for refusing to assist Ukraine in its fight to stop Russian aggression parallel the excuses and justifications made by similar voices in 1939 who refused to help Britain in its fight to halt Nazi aggression.

Republican excuses and justifications heard in 2023 are as deceptive, groundless, and ominous as those heard in 1939.

How much destruction would have been avoided, and how many millions of lives would have been saved had the 1939 excuse-makers had the courage to support Britain in its fight to stop Nazi aggression and hold instigators responsible for their crimes against humanity?

If you and your Republican colleagues in the House and Senate believe that the fundamental freedoms of the Ukrainian people must be upheld and Vladimir Putin’s ambition to rebuild the Russian empire must be stopped, you will vote for the President’s supplemental funding request, a wise long-term investment to protect not only Ukrainian and European national security, but our national security as well.

By the way, if you and your colleagues in the House and Senate are seriously concerned about the impact the supplemental funding request (including $106 billion for Ukraine, $14.3 billion for Israel, $13.6 billion for border security, and $10 billion for humanitarian assistance) will have on the deficit and national debt, you can alleviate those concerns by simply allowing the Trump tax cuts to expire at the end of 2025, which would, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, reduce the deficit by $3.5 trillion through 2033.

Good idea, huh?

Note to the staff member who pulls this message from the FAX machine: Please take a moment to go into Mike’s office and put this letter on his desk where he can’t miss it.

After all, constituents who trusted Senator Lee with their votes and pay his way every day know very well that he can’t do his job effectively unless he knows and understands our concerns ----- can he?

Thank you.
